After Admitting The Wrong God They Regret It - Chapter 82
It felt as if his plans had been discovered.
But that shouldn’t be possible.
Feng Yu reassured himself.
Even if Xinghui was somewhat special, facing the divine powers and the cunning storm consciousness, honed by those same divine powers, would surely distract him.
His goal had never changed from the beginning.
He was waiting for the right moment to drag Xinghui into the space where the storm resided.
The storm’s domain was different from the spaces they slowly constructed with mental power.
Xinghui wouldn’t be able to escape easily.
And when that time came, Xinghui would have to face the full force of the storm, unweakened.
Even if Xinghui could face the storm when it first invaded the starry skies and drive it out, he wouldn’t be able to confront it head-on.
By then, Xinghui would dissipate, the storm’s power would weaken, and combined with the steps of their plan, even though everything was rushed and the risks had increased, it was all worth it to Feng Yu.
This was the last method he could think of to deal with Xinghui.
But at this moment.
He only felt a sudden fluctuation in his mental power, a strong sense of unease washing over him.
And in Yuanyuan’s line of sight, everything Xinghui had just experienced had happened in an instant for them.
It was just a slight pause when the little god said he had found something, a pause that made Yuanyuan lean closer to check.
The next moment, Xinghui’s consciousness returned, and he swiftly pulled out a gun from his waist, looking down.
On the ground was a spot that was a different color from the rest.
That small patch had moved under Xinghui’s feet, concealed by the light of the divine fragments, while others were searching for an exit.
As soon as Xinghui’s mental power cut off what the other side was trying to do, he fired at that spot.
Feng Yu’s attempt to open a space from Xinghui’s location to the storm’s domain had failed.
He had been careful with this delicate operation since Yuanyuan was standing right next to Xinghui.
Although he hadn’t suffered much at Yuanyuan’s hands, even knowing that as one of the demon commanders, Yuanyuan possessed strong mental power and physical prowess, his most direct experience was during the fight with Zhao Xiyuan. He considered Yuanyuan to be similar to Yuanquan. Back then, neither of them could quickly gain the upper hand in a fight.
So even though Yuanyuan was always by Xinghui’s side, Feng Yu’s original plan was to drag them both into the storm’s domain when Xinghui wasn’t paying attention. Having one more person simply made him more cautious.
He had experimented with how divine power affects gods before. The golden-haired god’s power, which he had in his possession, often reacted sluggishly due to the wails of the divine fragments, displaying signs of lethargy.
Xinghui couldn’t possibly react in time to detect his actions.
But as the mental power was severed, the passage failed to open, and the backlash from the mental power, mixed with divine energy, created a path from Xinghui’s position to his own.
The shot came quickly, but it didn’t hit him.
However, it struck the nearby control panel.
An energy gun infused with divine power was destructive to anything, let alone these delicate control panels.
Amidst the chaotic red alarms, Feng Yu’s face turned pale as he experienced dizziness, nausea, and surging blood after his mental power was attacked. He had to brace himself against the nearby table.
And then, a voice that made his blood run cold reached his ears.
The god’s voice was still calm.
“Found you.”
It was accompanied by the sound of shattering glass.
Feng Yu had been struggling to stabilize the equipment, and his calm expression was long gone. He looked up in panic.
After Xinghui destroyed the control machine, the resonance between Xinghui’s divine power and the surrounding divine power, combined with the golden-haired god’s energy that had been used to build the lab, caused nearly all the systems in the laboratory to shut down after that single shot. Countless communications from the merfolk were pouring in.
Various troublesome situations arose.
But what panicked Feng Yu the most was the giant container behind him that held the golden divine fragments.
The fluid that submerged the fragments was slowly leaking out due to the system failure.
At that moment, the fragments were in turmoil, violently crashing against the container.
Amid the pale gold fragments, the golden-haired god seemed to be waking from a long sleep, his golden lashes fluttering as he slowly opened his eyes.
A small glimmer of radiant light escaped.
“Your Majesty?! Your Majesty?! What exactly is happening?”
“Our lab is down!”
“Without the auxiliary equipment, we can’t contain those demons anymore. Several rooms have already been breached. Your Majesty, what is going on?”
Anxious voices from the merfolk kept coming through the communicator.
Feng Yu gradually calmed down from his panic, but his fingers still trembled slightly.
He quickly found the switch to replenish the fluid, pouring it back over the fragments to isolate them from the outside world.
Feng Yu didn’t respond to the merfolk.
A proud race that had passed down knowledge and research for longer than the gods themselves, even if they didn’t want to admit it, had to face the truth now.
It seemed that everything had failed.
Generations of inheritance, all seemingly coming to an end—
*
On the floor where the demons were.
071 was being dragged down the corridor by the demons, disheveled and in a sorry state.
He hadn’t expected the demons to act so quickly.
Nor had he expected that, even at the brink of death, he’d be forced into a vigorous chase by these demons.
It was a bit thrilling.
Ever since the demons told him that Xinghui could remember their names, and had even been secretly working hard to memorize every single one, 071 hadn’t spoken a word.
He felt his breathing gradually becoming more difficult, his already weakened body sliding down along the crack in the wall.
The demons were searching for someone.
The moment they noticed the mental power trapping them weakening, they found a breakthrough, and most of the demons had already escaped from the spaces constructed by the merfolk’s mental energy.
But they still hadn’t found Xinghui.
071 leaned against the door, squinting his eyes slightly before suddenly speaking.
“That window is fake.”
“What?”
One of the demons didn’t quite catch on.
071 struggled to raise his hand and pointed to the obvious window.
In fact, the demons had been somewhat influenced by the visual perception they had upon first entering this space.
From the outside, the structure looked like a building, with a corridor on the outermost side, along with glass windows. The doors to the merfolk’s labs were generally facing the windows, which appeared to be covered with special materials.
Now the building was underground.
In their initial understanding, it was normal for the windows to be dark.
But what if, from the moment they entered, they had been in the central part of the building all along?
The merfolk had the ability to manipulate space with their mental powers.
The interior of this building was only disguised to look like the outside; in reality, they weren’t where they thought they were.
Soon, one of the demons realized this and yanked 071 by the collar, pulling him to the side. Some of the demons had already begun to focus their firepower on the wall.
The transparent window material shattered into pieces under the onslaught of the demons’ mental energy.
With the bombardment of energy cannons and demonic mental power, the spot that 071 had pointed out was blasted open, revealing a passageway.
From there, it was pitch black, but a staircase leading downward was clearly visible.
071 looked at the place the demons had just blasted open and couldn’t help but click his tongue.
So violent.
“What’s the deal with you? Why did you suddenly switch sides? Did you finally realize you were on the wrong side?”
The demon who was holding 071 looked at the passage, then glanced at 071 with curiosity.
“Not really. I just thought you guys wouldn’t be able to beat the merfolk in the beginning.”
071 smiled weakly.
“Did you hear the alarm? In all the years I’ve been here, I’ve never heard an alarm so urgent. The merfolk are in disarray, and this place is easier to break into now.”
“Oh, so you only stand with the victors? Even on the brink of death, you’re still a fence-sitter. What are you trying to do?”
Before 071 could reply, light footsteps echoed from the staircase.
The demon’s words were cut short, and everyone turned their gaze cautiously toward the passage they had just blown open.
071 was also stunned.
Then, the person who emerged from the passage made all the demons frown.
It was a small child with chestnut hair and eyes.
He looked only about six or seven years old.
Unlike 071’s emaciated appearance, this child was chubby and somewhat cute, with innocent, bright chestnut eyes staring at them.
But the demons didn’t let down their guard.
In fact, they all frowned.
Because they couldn’t immediately tell what race the child belonged to.
The child’s ears were semi-transparent, fin-shaped like those of the merfolk, but his other features were clearly different from theirs. He even had two small antennae poking out from his chestnut hair.
Another experiment.
“Brother!”
071’s expression changed dramatically.
“99, what are you doing here?”
The little boy, upon seeing 071, immediately teared up, stumbling out of the passage and running to 071’s side. He reached out to grab 071’s hand, his fin-like ears rapidly fluttering with tension.
“I noticed you were gone, and no one was watching me, so I ran out. Brother, are you okay? Why are you so cold?”
He was still young, his voice soft and innocent, and tears were already falling in large drops.
He raised his small hand and held 071’s, trying to warm it.
“Is this your brother?”
“He’s not much of a threat,” one of the demons assessed, though they hadn’t fully dropped their guard.
They kept watching the little boy while also glancing at 071, whose expression had finally changed.
“Don’t… don’t bully my brother!”
The little boy was short, but despite running out of the passage and now facing so many demons, he remained composed, though visibly nervous.
This showed that he had some courage.
At this moment, he was standing protectively in front of 071, trying to shield him with his small hands.
Though it seemed like an impossible task, he didn’t retreat an inch.
