After being moved to tears by the sworn enemy's pheromones - Chapter 2
C City is a well-known high-temperature city, and the weather forecast for this day shows a temperature of 37°C.
However, the locals in C City know that official data is already conservative, and the actual outdoor temperature may have long exceeded 40°C.
Shen Jin feels the heat, his mind dizzy, and he just wants to reach the stadium before 2 p.m.
On the way, he hurriedly considers deleting his comment, but it’s already too late. With Gu Yu’s reply, more and more people are joining in to watch the excitement, and the misunderstandings are growing.
[“Help.jpg, why do I feel like the junior brother is talking about Shen Jin?”]
[“Duel? Duel what? Gotta ** duel it out.”]
[“I have to admit, I remember Shen Jin does look good, and his legs are long. The junior brother hit the jackpot.”]
[? Shen Jin, log in to your main account and speak up.]
[“I haven’t had CP for a year, and my friend on the brink of death sees this revelation and dashes into the Olympic 100m final. So who’s the attacker?”]
[“Don’t ask, it’s the e-sports wild king, ambushed by the junior brother and meowing all the way.”]
Gu Yu seems to sense that something’s wrong and responds with two symbols to many comments: [?][…]
Clearly, Gu Yu wants to salvage the situation desperately while maintaining a cool demeanor, making Shen Jin curse him, “Damn, pretending to be cool again.”
The sketch master, the more you sketch, the darker it gets, referring to people like Gu Yu.
The university life of top students is dull, yet even this gossip manages to attract quite a few people. Shen Jin unconsciously stares at the two letters “CP,” feeling his temple throbbing more.
Others misunderstand their special relationship, but only Shen Jin knows that Gu Yu just wants to tease him.
So, even though he restrains himself, Shen Jin can’t help but recall the conflicts they had during high school.
*
From junior high to high school, they both attended F District Fifth Middle School, unquestionably arch-enemies.
Their first encounter was during the monthly exams when they just entered school. Gu Yu misunderstood that Shen Jin wanted to copy his exam paper, causing a big fuss, and Shen Jin even had to bring his parents to school.
Later, when Gu Yu took a one-year break from school, Shen Jin didn’t forget to boast that he would educate this naive junior brother. The two erupted in physical conflicts, making quite a commotion.
The subsequent events were simple—due to their sharp opposition and mutual dislike, the presence of the other became more and more prominent. Until Shen Jin graduated, the two never truly reconciled.
One of the most frustrating encounters for Shen Jin occurred on a high school evening. Despite being well-prepared to confront Gu Yu in the alley, things took an unexpected turn. As night fell, Gu Yu, now matching Shen Jin’s height, caught him off guard, pinning his hands against the wall. Gu Yu, seizing the upper hand for the first time, taunted, “If I weren’t a model student, you’d leave tonight with fewer limbs. What brings you here?”
Before Shen Jin could respond, Gu Yu pressed him against the wall, mocking, “I heard the senior boasting about a new girlfriend. Is that just a fabrication?” Shen Jin, caught off guard, had concocted a few lies about having a girlfriend to fit in with his friends.
Gu Yu mercilessly exposed the deception, triggering a sense of shame in Shen Jin. Struggling and maintaining his composure, Shen Jin retorted, “Jealous, are you?”
Gu Yu paused, then said, “I’m not…!” The moonlight intensified as Gu Yu, becoming inexplicably agitated, continued to press Shen Jin, maintaining the advantage. Finally, when Shen Jin seemed close to tears, Gu Yu halted, hesitated, and released his grip, asking, “Are you… about to cry? Did I hurt you?”
In his younger years, Shen Jin, less composed than now, had a tendency to well up with tears when emotions ran high, even if he didn’t want to cry. Feeling utterly embarrassed, Shen Jin glared at Gu Yu, who added fuel to the fire, “The senior can cry too?”
Suppressing his emotions, Shen Jin retorted defiantly, “Consider it a practice session for your future funeral.”
Gu Yu’s usually aloof expression twitched for a moment. As Shen Jin hastily packed up to leave, Gu Yu grabbed the strap of his backpack, pulled out a box from his own bag, and shoved it into Shen Jin’s hands, saying, “Fine, take it.”
Upon closer inspection, Shen Jin found a small box of chocolates, utterly confused. “What the heck is this?”
Gu Yu, with a hint of amusement, replied, “It’s an elixir passed down from my ancestors since the end of the Western Han Dynasty. Consider it an apology. Please spare me in the future.”
Shen Jin, still perplexed, retorted, “Your ancestors sure had a taste for luxury!”
Taking a moment to regain his composure, Shen Jin added, “Alright, I’ll take it. I’ll feed it to the dogs when I get home. Today was a mistake, but I’ll still beat you when I have the chance.”
Gu Yu, after a brief pause, calmly responded, “Feed it to the dogs? Here’s a piece of advice, dogs can’t eat chocolate.”
Before Shen Jin could reply, Gu Yu turned and walked away without looking back, saying, “But you can feed it to pigs.”
As Shen Jin processed the fact that Gu Yu had insulted him while already disappearing, he found himself repeatedly dropping his backpack in frustration.
To make matters worse, that evening Shen Jin discovered the box of chocolates had expired half a month ago. Left with no other option, he silently vowed to remember Gu Yu’s actions.
Various humiliations and resentments had accumulated over the years. Reflecting on their entire five to six years in high school, Shen Jin and Gu Yu had clashed in almost every situation. On Shen Jin’s 18th birthday, marking the end of their high school years, he thought this twisted fate had come to an end. Little did he expect that Gu Yu would reappear in his university life.
This unexpected reunion brought an unconscious sense of apprehension, considering Gu Yu had always brought him misfortune in various ways. However, under the scorching sun, Shen Jin had no time for prolonged contemplation. He hurriedly checked his phone while making his way to the sports field, eventually finding the military instructor who had received an advance notice from Old Zhang.
After examining Shen Jin’s student ID, the instructor nodded and said, “This afternoon, to satisfy everyone’s curiosity, we’ll practice shooting targets with rifles. I’ll call someone over, and you can help move sandbags from the warehouse to the side of the field.”
Shen Jin nodded but heard the instructor loudly call out, “Gu Yu! Come here for a moment.”
Taken aback, before he could react much, the tall figure of Gu Yu appeared in front of him. Somewhat surprised, Gu Yu’s first words were, “Senior… what are you doing here? Didn’t you learn military boxing last year?”
After a year, Gu Yu remained striking, with a noble and imposing demeanor, seemingly having grown taller, well beyond 185 centimeters.
Shen Jin looked at his face without any visible emotion and sneered, “Military boxing? What’s that? Do you believe I can greet you with a set of Wing Chun moves on your face?”
Gu Yu observed him, his tongue still sharp, “I believe it. Senior, expert at tormenting loyal subjects.”
“Did you two already know each other?” The instructor, sensing the unfriendly atmosphere, intervened, “Shen Jin here had health issues last year, so he’s doing military training now. You two can start by moving sandbags together.”
Gu Yu furrowed his brows, involuntarily taking half a step forward and asking, “Since when has Senior had health issues?”
Avoiding him, Shen Jin replied, “What’s the rush? Worried you won’t get a chance to show filial piety?”
Gu Yu opened his mouth but a few seconds later turned his gaze away, saying, “I’m worried Senior might not stand steadily and accidentally touch my porcelain. Maybe even extort a seaside villa from me.”
Withdrawing his hand mid-gesture, as if sulking, he added, “Possibly with a garden.”
Shen Jin, hearing this, lifted his leg to step past him towards the warehouse, saying, “Rest assured, a minor ailment won’t affect our showdown. This porcelain, I don’t think I can touch it anyway.”
