After Marrying Bigshot Vegetable Boss - Chapter 13
On the second night at the Chu residence, Yu Lan slept even better than the previous night.
He even started dreaming of counting money, with Chu Wang’s words on the left, “There’s not enough money in this account, go ask Zhang Yan for more,” and Xiyun’s words on the right, “Keep this card, it’s what you deserve.”
Chu Wang, being a soul, naturally didn’t feel sleepy at all. Moreover, this was the first time in many years that someone had entered his bedroom and slept in his bed.
It’s quite miraculous, Chu Wang thought. Just two days have passed, and if he had come up with such a notion a week ago, he would have probably thought he was going mad.
However, the current situation seemed to indicate that he wasn’t going mad; in fact, things were even better than before.
Â
Chu Wang looked down at the sleeping figure.
He had thought Yu Lan’s first twenty years were very difficult, with everyone and everything in life treating him poorly. So it would be normal for him to want revenge or to vent his frustrations.
But unexpectedly, it seemed like Yu Lan was in a good mood, even smiling in his sleep.
Chu Wang glanced out the window. The autumn night sky was increasingly clear and serene, with the moon hanging high and casting its gentle light without bias, sprinkling onto the windowsill.
The moonlight also shone into another building.
The gates of the Yu family were tightly shut. Yu Ling watched Liang Zhiyu, who was sitting by the window with a furrowed brow, hesitated for a while, then couldn’t help but speak, “Mom…”
Liang Zhiyu sighed again without saying a word.
“Mom,” Yu Ling looked apologetic, “it’s all my fault, I… I didn’t expect it to…”
“Never mind, thinking about it, I know it’s definitely not your fault,” Liang Zhiyu finally spoke, “I should have known he would make things difficult for you.”
“He insisted on saying those things in front of everyone that night, just because he felt we mistreated him?”
“Now you went over there to apologize to him quietly. If he’s not grateful and still has such a bad temper, the Chu family might not be treating him that well either, just thinking of venting.” Liang Zhiyu continued, then turned to ask, “When you went to the Chu family, how did those people treat him?”
After all, he was urged to go nurse someone that night, and Yu Lan had a bad temper. He might have caused some trouble.
But Yu Ling was taken aback when he heard this.
It was hard for him to describe to Liang Zhiyu, but from what he saw, Yu Lan not only wasn’t bullied, but he also seemed to be… thriving?
But it couldn’t be ruled out that he was deliberately putting on a show for him.
He quickly followed Liang Zhiyu’s words, “Yeah, when I went there, he even wanted to push Chu Wang out to sunbathe.”
Liang Zhiyu listened to him and asked, “Xiaolong, did he really slander you and pour water on himself?”
Yu Ling immediately nodded, “Mom, I really didn’t expect him to turn out like this now…”
“You just watched him bully you like that?” Liang Zhiyu looked at him, “Xiaolong, you’re just too easy-going. If Mom were there at the time, she would definitely have gone to the Chu family to get the surveillance footage and prove your innocence.”
“How could I let you suffer like this!”
Yu Ling showed an innocent expression, “Mom…”
However, Liang Zhiyu thought of something. “So, because of his behavior, you didn’t give out that money?”
Yu Ling’s expression stiffened, nodding.
So Liang Zhiyu frowned again.
“Never mind, thinking about it, what are the chances of a vegetative person waking up? If he can’t accept it for a while and gets stuck in negative thoughts, it’s normal.”
Yu Ling cautiously looked over and said, “Mom, it’s all my fault…”
Liang Zhiyu waved her hand. “How could it be your fault?”
“I guess the blow from the wedding was too much for him…” She shook her head, “To think he would resort to such means to get attention.”
But they had no choice. With the status of the Chu family, many people couldn’t find a way to climb the social ladder. When he found them, she naturally didn’t want to refuse.
“But Xiaolong, did you forget to mention the amount?” Liang Zhiyu asked.
Yu Ling naturally didn’t mention the reason, just biting his lip and nodding, “I… I was just so shocked at the time.”
“That’s it,” Liang Zhiyu found the reason, “After all, a million is quite a lot. Xiaolong has never seen so much money from childhood to adulthood. If he knew, he wouldn’t have treated you like this.”
Yu Ling nodded along, “Then…”
“Whether to give it or not, you still have to. After all, your father’s business abroad hasn’t been doing well in recent years. He’s coming back soon, and if the Chu family can help a little, the problem will be much simpler.” Liang Zhiyu rubbed her temples and stood up, “But don’t indulge Yu Lan’s temper either. Who does he think he’s showing his attitude to?”
Yu Ling also stood up. “Mom, I’ll make you a bowl of calming soup.”
Liang Zhiyu’s expression softened slightly. “Xiaolong, you’re so considerate.”
She looked at Yu Ling, and the subtle unease she had disappeared. “How could Mom bear to let you suffer at the Chu family like this?”
Yu Ling smiled gently, “Yeah.”
But as soon as he turned around, most of the smile on his face disappeared.
—He couldn’t help but recall the scene he saw at the Chu family in the afternoon.
The obvious class difference in the villa area, the attentive servants, and the valuable antique tableware…
The Yu family’s business had been declining in the past two years. To show consideration and to reassure Liang Zhiyu, he had taken on a lot of responsibilities voluntarily.
Yu Ling looked at the bubbling bubbles in the pot and thought, well, living here is still better than taking care of a perpetually comatose person.

Xiyun was very efficient in handling matters. In just two or three days, all the formalities were done, and she told Yu Lan that he could go back to school.
The school was still the same one as before, the one the original owner attended for half a year before temporarily dropping out because of being brought back by the Yu family. Yu Lan himself had studied there for three months before being hit by a brick and falling into a book.
It’s hard not to say it’s a kind of continuation.
Yu Lan got up very early that day, preparing to start anew as a mentally sound male college student.
Although Xiyun had arranged for a designer to make clothes for him, the finished product hadn’t arrived yet. He hadn’t been out these past few days, and he had been wearing loose home clothes at home. The only piece he brought with him had been thrown away under Chu Wang’s instructions long ago. He started to feel conflicted when he looked at his closet again.
But Chu Wang had been standing by for half a day already, and he hadn’t waited for Yu Lan to come over and help him “boot up”.
He watched as Yu Lan paced back and forth in the closet, unable to hear his own voice, so his soul followed suit, drifting around.
Yu Lan furrowed his brow as he rummaged through Chu Wang’s wardrobe for a long time, but all the sizes were too large, making everything he wore oversized.
In the end, he simply chose the simplest, relatively casual white shirt, paired with a pair of mohair pants that were seven-eighths for Chu Wang but just right for himself, so he wouldn’t look too strange.
Halfway through dressing, he suddenly remembered something and jogged over to touch Chu Wang’s hand. “Mr. Chu, can I borrow your clothes to wear first!”
He assured, “I’ll buy new ones when I go out today.”
Chu Wang didn’t mind his impromptu decision. “Hmm.”
“Did you sleep well yesterday?” Yu Lan almost forgot his routine concern and hastily added.
“…” Chu Wang thought to himself, I don’t need sleep, but someone seemed to dream of a sumptuous feast last night, and even smacked their lips half-asleep.
But what he said was, “Slept well.”
“That’s good!” Yu Lan finished dressing, checked himself in the mirror, and was about to leave when he said again, “Oh, Mr. Chu, should I not wake you up then!”
“You see, I just called you and now I’m leaving again. I should have let you sleep a little longer.”
Chu Wang: “…………”
“It’s fine.”
You’re quite considerate.
Chu Wang thought with an expressionless face.
He finally tasted a bit of the bitterness of lying.
“Then wait for me to come back!” Yu Lan walked to the door, then turned back and waved to the floating Chu Wang by the window. “If the weather’s good, I’ll take you out for a walk.”
Chu Wang looked at the head poking out from the nearby door and the pile of hesitations about whether to explain the truth to Yu Lan disappeared. In the end, it all boiled down to one word: “Okay.”
–
Xi Yun had originally arranged for a driver, but Yu Lan felt that he had just returned to school and wasn’t clear about the situation, so it was better to keep a low profile.
Moreover, things were already going well enough now.
With all the formalities done, Yu Lan just needed to go to the grade director’s office to sign a document and he could continue his studies peacefully.
This part wasn’t mentioned in the book; it only briefly mentioned that the original owner was very gloomy at school, rarely attended classes, and didn’t go back later because of the wedding.
Yu Lan finally felt a bit of a return to normalcy when he arrived at the grade director’s office.
As he had expected, the news of Yujia’s return to the family had not been publicly announced. Therefore, when he returned to school, the grade director simply assumed that he had finished dealing with family matters and had returned to continue his studies, without asking much.
It was rare to have this feeling of not being controlled by the book and not knowing the plot. When Yu Lan went to find his classroom with his books, he felt even happier than when he left home.
He walked while thinking, so he didn’t realize that as soon as he stepped into the classroom, the scattered noise in the class suddenly quieted down.
Fortunately, this kind of quiet didn’t last too long. He found a seat in the back row, and everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened.
Except for a few more whispers.
Yu Lan still felt quite a few eyes on him.
He wasn’t stupid, but looks had always been just a tool for deceiving adults for him since he was young, or at most, it would earn him a few extra lollipops at the welfare home’s convenience store. Therefore, he didn’t pay much attention to these looks.
When class ended, some of the people who had been sneakily watching him approached tentatively.
“Are you a new student transferred to our major?”
“Why haven’t we seen you before?”
“Which dorm do you live in? Do you need help moving your stuff?”
“Hey, classmate…”
Yu Lan reverted to his true self as soon as he returned to school, put on his headphones, and responded briefly.
“No.”
“I haven’t come before.”
“I’m a day student.”
Although his attitude was rather indifferent, perhaps because of his good looks, people continued to come up to him one after another.
After a while, Yu Lan was still waiting for the next class bell to ring, but the lively atmosphere didn’t die down. After all, the sudden appearance of a good-looking new student was like an excitement booster for everyone.
“Hey classmate, don’t be too shy. We’re all in the same major.”
“Yeah, classmate, you’re so handsome. Do you have a girlfriend?”
“Or a boyfriend!”
Yu Lan’s hand, holding the phone, paused for a moment.
He took off his headphones and said to the person who had just asked, “I don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Nor do I have a boyfriend.”
“But,” he smiled and raised his eyes, “I’m married.”
