After Marrying Bigshot Vegetable Boss - Chapter 6
Fortunately, Yu Lan still had nursing experience, so it wasn’t unfamiliar to him, though turning over was a bit challenging.
Chu Wang listened to the sounds of Yu Lan moving him, panting slightly.
He considered telling Yu Lan that he didn’t need to do these tasks; he could just inform Xijun, and there would be dedicated caregivers and therapists.
However, it had been too long since someone spoke to him, and with Yu Lan briefly losing him earlier, Chu Wang feared unknown conditions. Hesitating, he decided to entrust his body to this partner he just met tonight.
Finding someone to talk to wasn’t easy.
“Mr. Chu,” Yu Lan’s voice sounded, “are you in a good mood?”
Chu Wang: How can you tell someone’s mood when their back is turned to you?
Of course, Yu Lan didn’t know, but he needed to take the initiative now. As long as Chu Wang didn’t outright deny it, he would have gained an advantage.
Just one step forward, and in three months, Chu Wang would be impressed by Yu Lan’s attentive care. Then, with a grand gesture, he would generously offer a substantial sum, saying, “Brother has nothing else to give you, only money. Accept this gesture.”
Yu Lan happily thought, nearly bursting into song. After caring for the comatose patient, he settled on the nearby sofa, saying, “Mr. Chu, all done.”
Only then did Chu Wang turn around, suspending his gaze at the person not far away.
Yu Lan’s face was captivating, but when he closed his eyes to rest, a gentle and delicate charm emanated from his features. His naturally curly hair swayed slightly with his breath, appearing soft.
Chu Wang had heard rumors about the strange and melancholic temperament of the true young master returned to the Yu family. Still, today, it seemed he was just a bit scheming, nothing serious.
Unable to fathom why the Yu family would send such a child, Chu Wang pondered. Just as he thought, the youth lying on the sofa suddenly opened his eyes, catching Chu Wang off guard.
Yu Lan blinked innocently and smiled, asking, “Mr. Chu?”
“Is there anything else I can do for you?” Yu Lan wore an expression as if he was ready to shine for him.
Chu Wang briefly averted his gaze, shook his head, and then called Yu Lan’s name.
“And you?” he asked.
“I?” Yu Lan said without hesitation, “Helping Mr. Chu is already good enough. I don’t have any other extravagant hopes.”
Seeing Chu Wang silent for a moment, before Yu Lan could add anything, he spoke again, “I’ll give you a number.”
As Yu Lan reached for his phone, Chu Wang continued, “No need for that.”
“Walk to the furthest end of the room,” he floated over, guiding Yu Lan, “here.”
It was a storage cabinet. Chu Wang provided a password, and with a click, it revealed a safe.
Shocked, Yu Lan wondered if the main antagonist couldn’t wait to repay him!
He took a deep breath, feigning a trembling voice, “This…”
Chu Wang didn’t answer immediately but provided another password, and the safe opened to reveal not only stacks of sealed, unidentified documents but also a cellphone.
“Take out the phone,” Chu Wang said the third password, repeating it, “remember this password.”
It seemed to be a specially encrypted phone. Shocked, Yu Lan followed Chu Wang’s instructions to charge it.
Only then did Chu Wang reveal the number.
“This is my personal secretary, named Zhang Yan. Only she knows this number,” Chu Wang explained. “Contact her with this number, and she will trust you.”
“If you need anything, lack anything, or want to do something, you can ask her for help.”
Chu Wang had an agreement with Zhang Yan. If there were any real issues or if he couldn’t directly inform the other party, contacting her with this number would imply his approval, eliminating any suspicions.
Since the situation was difficult to explain, and he wasn’t sure about Yu Lan’s intentions, this was a more straightforward approach. Besides, he didn’t know when he would wake up or if he could wake up at all, so things wouldn’t get worse than they already were.
Yu Lan didn’t expect to see results so soon: “I really don’t need…”
“If you don’t need it, put it back,” Chu Wang said, amused by Yu Lan’s expression.
Yu Lan blinked, almost losing his composure, “I, I’ll just note down the password.”
For the first time, Chu Wang found his heightened senses amusing. He nodded, “That works.”
He watched as Yu Lan closed the cabinet and returned to the bed. “You’ve finished everything. Why are you still holding my hand?” Chu Wang spoke up.
Yu Lan’s fingers were still on the slightly cool wrist of the comatose patient. “I’m worried that while you’re talking to me, you might suddenly turn off again.”
Just as he finished speaking, Yu Lan saw Chu Wang smile for the first time tonight.
Chu Wang didn’t feel guilty about deceiving the kid but found Yu Lan’s current expression amusing. For now, it was better not to tell him the truth.
“It’s okay,” Chu Wang’s lips curled slightly, reducing the distant feeling, “It’s late, and you need rest too.”
“Oh,” Yu Lan nodded understandingly, “I know, I know. You also need to sleep.”
“Then I’ll come back tomorrow night,” he said, “Good night, Mr. Chu!”
Chu Wang watched as Yu Lan carefully released his hand, tidied up the room a bit, and then hurriedly walked out.
He didn’t float this time. After a couple of seconds, Yu Lan seemed to remember something and came back to take the phone he gave him earlier.
Finally, Yu Lan reached the door, opened it, pressed the handle, leaned against the door, peeked out with a hesitant voice, addressing the spiritual being inside, “Um, should I go back to my room?”
Chu Wang’s voice lifted a bit, “Go back.”
As the door closed again, footsteps faded away, and Chu Wang floated to the bed, looking at his unchanging self. Then he went to the dressing room, gazing at the large dressing mirror.
Inside, there was still only a wardrobe, incapable of reflecting any floating spiritual entity.
Feeling a bit regretful, Chu Wang thought, being trapped here without a physical form for so long, he almost forgot what it felt like to smile.
–
Meanwhile, at the Yu residence half a city away, lights were still on.
Liang Zhiyu, with an unruffled expression, returned home and saw a familiar figure standing in the living room. Her expression changed, “Xiaoling, it’s so late. Why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
She walked over and carefully examined her, expressing some reproach, “Your body is already weak, and you don’t know how to rest. You left the door open, letting in the cold breeze.”
Xiaoling showed a docile smile, and her voice carried a pitiable sense of understanding, “I’m worried about Mom; how can I sleep?”
After saying that, she coughed a couple of times, “Mom, I still feel a bit uneasy.”
“I should be the one handling these things; I shouldn’t be enjoying these comforts. You’ve been taking care of me for so many years. Ethically and morally, I should repay you.”
“Why are you bringing this up again?” Liang Zhiyu sighed, “Xiaoling, don’t blame yourself too much.”
Xiaoling’s expression looked almost teary, “But I’m not your biological child. Blood relations are…”
“Silly child,” Liang Zhiyu rubbed her forehead, her eyes helpless but affectionate, “this decision was made by the whole family, and it has nothing to do with you. Moreover, you will always be my child. A mere certificate cannot break this bond.”
Xiaoling finally showed a slightly relieved expression.
She touched Xiaoling’s hair, her eyes helpless but loving, “Xiaoling, you’re too sensible.”
“But my brother…” Xiaoling looked troubled again.
He didn’t mention it, but the embarrassing scene from half the night ago kept coming back to Liang Zhiyu’s mind.
She thought for a moment but chose not to tell Xiaoling about this. However, she learned from someone who just left that Xiaolong had just gone upstairs to take care of Chu Wang.
She relaxed her brows a bit upon hearing this and held Xiaoling’s hand, “Xiaoling, he chose this by himself. Besides, you didn’t go, and with your weak body, you still need care. How can you endure such grievances?”
“But I can’t just watch…” Xiaoling bit her lip, sighed lightly, “It’s all my fault.”
“He is my brother no matter what. I know he might not forgive us, but I also want to explain to him on your behalf and offer some compensation…” Xiaoling said, “Mom, tomorrow, I’ll go see him.”
