After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy - Chapter 14
Outside the Huahai Hotel, Wan Tong had been waiting for over ten minutes. After receiving a message from Bai Xiangxing, he immediately submitted his resignation and came here.
Wan Tong was currently just a minor figure in the Bai Group. He used to be Bai Xiangxing’s assistant, but with Bai Xiangxing absent, he was quickly marginalized. The department manager didn’t know how to handle him, and upon hearing that he wanted to resign, not only did they approve it immediately, but they also had the finance department settle his salary right away, as if afraid he might change his mind and return.
The agreed-upon meeting time with Bai Xiangxing was one o’clock, but Bai Xiangxing hadn’t shown up yet. Wan Tong didn’t want to call Bai Xiangxing immediately and chose to send him a message instead. It wasn’t until one minute ago that Bai Xiangxing finally replied, saying he had just taken the elevator down.
Knowing that he would soon meet his boss, Wan Tong couldn’t help but adjust his appearance in front of the hotel’s glass windows. Although he hadn’t been with Bai Xiangxing for long, he knew that Bai Xiangxing was someone who placed great importance on appearance and demeanor. Wan Tong was an ordinary-looking Beta, and since he couldn’t change his appearance, he put extra effort into his clothing.
“Hey, aren’t you Bai Xiangxing’s assistant?” Suddenly, a mocking voice sounded next to Wan Tong.
“Director? General Manager?” The one who spoke was Bai Cang, father and son. They held a thick stack of documents in their hands, seemingly here for a business negotiation.
“It’s really you. What are you doing here at this time instead of working in the company?” Bai Xiangqing recognized Wan Tong since he had personally received the documents Wan Tong had handed over to Bai Xiangqing. They had interacted for some time, so Bai Xiangqing knew him.
“I’ve already resigned,” Wan Tong replied.
“Resigning when you had a good position?” Bai Xiangqing pretended to be regretful. “I even said that once the contract with Changsheng is signed, I would let you handle it directly.”
Bai Xiangxing, the abandoned son of the Bai family, had found support eroding away in the Bai Group. During this time, father and son Bai had been very enthusiastic, walking around the company with an air of confidence.
However, Wan Tong had shown no reaction to all this. After the incident, he had even concealed the matter concerning Changsheng Group from them. If he hadn’t personally come to ask for it, Wan Tong might have kept it hidden. What was more infuriating was that when he first went to ask for it, Wan Tong had pretended not to know. Although he eventually relented and provided the Changsheng materials, Bai Xiangqing still felt uncomfortable about it. Worse yet, when he asked for the materials, he had agreed to Wan Tong’s terms. As long as Wan Tong was willing to hand over the documents, he wouldn’t be fired. He would even be given more responsibilities.
Afterward, he couldn’t openly take action against Wan Tong, so he had hinted to the department manager, and unexpectedly, the manager had managed to get rid of Wan Tong within a short time.
Bai Xiangqing intentionally mentioned letting Wan Tong handle the Changsheng contract to make Wan Tong regret his decision. However, Wan Tong seemed to ignore it completely, not even furrowing his brows.
This displeased Bai Xiangqing, who continued, “See, this is the contract between our Bai Group and Changsheng Group. We’re here today to sign it. You’ve only resigned half a day, and this project would have been assigned to you.”
Wan Tong adjusted his lips and looked over, “If General Manager Bai needs it, I can reconsider returning to Bai Group.”
“What do you think Bai Group is?” Bai Xiangqing said disdainfully. “Can you come and go as you please?”
Wan Tong lowered his gaze, concealing the scorn in his eyes.
Both father and son ridiculed Wan Tong, a minor figure. With the two of them handling Bai Group, it had no future. Wan Tong hadn’t wanted to engage with them, but Bai Xiangxing was about to arrive, and he didn’t want Bai Xiangxing to see them bullying him.
“Please, General Manager, give me another chance,” Wan Tong sincerely requested.
“Bai Group has its rules. If it weren’t for you honestly providing the Changsheng documents, the company would have fired you long ago. Now that you don’t appreciate it and have resigned on your own, the company won’t give you another chance. Unless…” Bai Xiangqing tempted, “Do you still have clients like Changsheng whose information you haven’t given to us?”
Bai Cang’s eyes also lit up as he said, “If you do, I can consider having the HR department withdraw your resignation.”
Wan Tong cursed inwardly at their shamelessness. “I don’t have any. But if the General Manager is willing to give me a chance, I’ll work hard.”
Saying this, Wan Tong even reached out to grab Bai Xiangqing’s arm, adopting a pleading expression.
“Get lost!” Bai Xiangqing was really angered this time.
While he never used foul language when he was angry, he directly acted, landing a slap square on Bai Xiangqing’s face.
“Smack!” Bai Xiangxing was indeed infuriated this time. He had refrained from hitting people when he was angry, but he acted decisively. With a crisp slap, he struck Bai Xiangqing’s face.
“You!” Bai Xiangqing was shocked by Bai Xiangxing’s sudden slap, and he tried to slap back. However, before he could raise his hand, someone held his arm.
It was Wan Tong. Wan Tong had somehow positioned himself beside Bai Xiangxing and was now standing between the two men. Although he hadn’t been able to prevent Bai Xiangxing from encountering Bai Cang and his son, he wouldn’t allow Bai Xiangxing to be bullied by them in his presence.
“Wan Tong, do you dare to block me?” Bai Xiangqing sneered.
“You’re quite the loyal dog. What’s the matter, seeing your former master got you all excited?” Bai Xiangqing scoffed.
Bai Xiangxing had been wondering about the identity of the person blocking his way since Wan Tong stepped in. Now, after hearing Bai Xiangqing’s words, he had no doubts left. This person was his former assistant, Wan Tong.
“Wan Tong, let go,” Bai Xiangxing suddenly said.
Wan Tong hesitated and turned back, “Master Xing?”
After leaving the Bai family, Wan Tong had stopped calling Bai Xiangxing ‘Director’ and started using ‘Master Xing’ instead.
“Let go; I want to see if he dares to touch me,” Bai Xiangxing said with a cold smile. “In public, assaulting an Omega is a crime, and the Omega Protection Act isn’t just for show, is it?”
Due to the natural fragility of Omegas and their scarcity, there were specific laws in place to protect them. Attacking an Omega was a serious offense, not just legally, but also socially. Anyone witnessing an Alpha mistreating an Omega would usually intervene.
Bai Xiangqing felt dozens of different pheromones swirling around him. He sneakily glanced around and noticed that the people in the lobby had stopped in their tracks, all gazing intently in their direction. Some Alpha individuals of higher status than him were releasing pheromones.
Even the hotel’s security guards were approaching, sternly addressing Bai Xiangqing, “Sir, please leave. We don’t welcome Alpha scum who mistreat Omegas in our hotel.”
“Misunderstanding, misunderstanding. We’re cousins,” Bai Xiangqing tried to explain. He was here today to sign a contract with Changsheng Group’s CEO and couldn’t afford to be kicked out.
“It’s indeed a misunderstanding. I know your hotel manager. Is Mr. Hua here?” Bai Cang also tried to mediate.
Upon hearing that the security guards knew their manager, they hesitated for a moment. They turned back to Bai Xiangxing and asked, “Is what they’re saying true?”
“It’s true,” Bai Xiangxing nodded and then smiled, pointing at the stun baton on the security guard’s waist. “Can I borrow this?”
Without waiting for the security guard’s response, Bai Xiangxing had already noticed the blinking light on the stun baton’s switch. In an instant, he swung the baton towards Bai Xiangqing’s neck. There was a crackling sound, and before Bai Xiangqing could even scream, he had been stunned to the ground.
“Xing’er!” Bai Cang checked on his son’s condition in shock, while also scolding Bai Xiangxing, “Bai Xiangxing, I’ll report this to the police…”
Bai Xiangxing’s response was the stun baton in his hand, which still sparkled with electricity and was less than ten centimeters away from Bai Cang.
“Do you dare?!” Bai Cang’s voice trembled, revealing his fear.
“Uncle, you’ve watched me grow up. Do you think I’d dare?” Bai Xiangxing smiled and squatted down. As he did, the stun baton in his hand came closer and closer to Bai Cang.
Bai Cang kept retreating in fear until he finally fell to the ground, dropping the documents he had been holding.
Bai Xiangxing glanced at the documents and saw it was the contract with Changsheng. Suddenly, his somewhat sour mood had improved.
At this point, even the security guard had reacted and quickly stepped forward to take the stun baton from Bai Xiangxing. He couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. He had lived for many years, but he had never seen such a fierce Omega.
Not just him, several Alpha individuals who had wanted to show their chivalry and defend the delicate and beautiful Omega were also taken aback. They retracted their pheromones. Such a formidable creature didn’t need their help.
“Coming to sign a contract with Changsheng?” Bai Xiangxing, after having the stun baton taken away, wasn’t angry but instead asked with a smile.
“What do you want?” Bai Cang had a bad feeling.
“Nothing much; I just find it quite coincidental. Do you know what this is?” Bai Xiangxing leisurely displayed the contract he had just signed with Ming Cheng’en.
“You… impossible!” Bai Cang reached out to try to grab it.
Bai Xiangxing wouldn’t allow him to succeed and moved aside while shouting for Wan Tong.
“Master Xing?” Wan Tong immediately stepped forward.
“Take the contract. This is our first business deal snatched from the Bai Group.” Bai Xiangxing said.
“Yes.” Wan Tong’s eyes shone brightly. It seemed that Xiangxing had privately negotiated with Changsheng’s people long before.
“Did you… did you give me fake documents?” Bai Cang’s eyes were red as he looked at Wan Tong.
Wan Tong didn’t even spare him a glance and stood beside Bai Xiangxing, holding the contract diligently and loyally.
As the security guards began to contact the medical department for the unconscious Bai Xiangqing, he slowly regained consciousness. He looked groggily at his father sitting next to him and weakly asked, “Dad, where is this?”
“The hospital!” Bai Xiangxing replied as he delivered a low blow with his leg.
Bai Xiangqing let out a painful cry, curling up in agony.
“You dare to touch my people.” Bai Xiangxing didn’t spare him and kicked Bai Xiangqing’s abdomen.
Wan Tong suddenly looked up, staring intently at Bai Xiangxing.
The security guard felt a chill run down his spine, and he nervously told his colleague at the medical department, “You don’t need to come over; we’ll probably need to take them directly to the hospital.”
He hung up and dialed the emergency number.
“Bai Xiangxing, don’t think I won’t touch you just because of the Omega Protection Act,” Bai Cang stood up, roaring. Bai Xiangxing no longer had the stun baton, so Bai Cang felt emboldened.
“Nephew, I hate to say this, but now you’re an Omega of the Shi family. Shi Zhen is a military man, and he doesn’t spend much time at home. You should seize the opportunity and try to have a child. You’re not a natural Omega; if you don’t work hard to compensate, be diligent in bed, and stay there, the Shi family might not want you.” Bai Xiangqing knew best how to upset Bai Xiangxing, hitting all the sore points.
It was infuriating, but what could he do? The fact that he was an Omega couldn’t be changed.
The Omega Protection Act prevented the mistreatment of Omegas but did not protect Omegas who committed crimes. Bai Xiangxing’s actions had gone beyond the scope of the Omega Protection Act.
Wan Tong moved to block again, but as he was about to step forward, Bai Xiangxing stopped him. Simultaneously, a video projection appeared in the air, displaying the stern face of Shi Zhen.
When Shi Zhen answered the video call, he realized he was looking at Bai Cang’s furious face instead of Bai Xiangxing’s. He instantly deduced the situation, and his face darkened. The aura of fierceness and determination he had forged in the crucible of life and death, even when seen through a screen, was enough to intimidate ordinary people.
Bai Cang’s malevolence evaporated in the face of Shi Zhen’s imposing presence, but Shi Zhen didn’t miss the malice in his eyes.
“Bai Cang, dare to harm Bai Xiangxing, and try me!!” Shi Zhen’s voice was bone-chilling.
“I didn’t!” Bai Cang shouted miserably, not daring to make any moves.
