After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy - Chapter 21
Another week had passed, and during this time, Bai Xiangxing had been busy at Xinshi almost every day, working late into the night. Now, everything was ready, except for the starcoins that Shi Zhen had to transfer.
A week ago, Shi Zhen had messaged Bai Xiangxing, informing him that he had to undertake a mission, which would take approximately a week.
Bai Xiangxing wasn’t particularly concerned about Shi Zhen going on a mission. After all, he knew the future storyline. Shi Zhen was destined to rise through the ranks to become a high-ranking officer in the alliance. Even in his own untimely death, Shi Zhen had survived. However, Shi Zhen’s sudden departure raised doubts about whether the starcoins would arrive on time. Xinshi’s current situation couldn’t afford any further delays.
During this week, Bai Xiangxing had explored other options to secure the necessary funds, but he couldn’t gather the required amount. Zhou Hongming, the financial manager, even proposed withholding the employees’ salaries for the month to provide emergency funds. However, Bai Xiangxing swiftly rejected the suggestion. If a company couldn’t even pay its employees’ salaries, then it had no purpose.
“Is the money in yet, Mr. Bai?” Wan Tong entered the room.
“What’s up?” Bai Xiangxing asked.
“I had negotiated with the equipment supplier earlier, and they agreed to reserve a set of equipment for us. But today, they called to say that another company wants to purchase the equipment immediately, and they need it in stock. So, if we don’t send the money soon, they might sell it to the other company,” Wan Tong explained.
Bai Xiangxing frowned. He promptly responded, “Talk to them and send a partial deposit first, and we’ll pay the rest in three days.”
“Alright. But…,” Wan Tong expressed his concern, “if Shi Sir’s 10 million starcoins don’t arrive in three days, we might lose this deposit.”
In Xinshi’s current situation, any loss was something they couldn’t afford.
“Don’t worry about that. Let’s go with this plan for now,” Bai Xiangxing replied calmly.
“Understood,” Wan Tong said and left to handle it.
Bai Xiangxing opened his contact list and dialed Shi Zhen’s number once again, only to hear the same busy signal.
For the current situation, aside from trusting Shi Zhen, it seemed there were no other solutions.
“You trust me, so I’ll trust you,” Bai Xiangxing mumbled. He continued with his work, fully absorbed in it. It wasn’t until the outside world had darkened that he realized.
“It’s getting dark; it’s time to go home,” Bai Xiangxing stretched and reached to check the time, but then he saw a bank transfer notification on his light screen.
Could it be?
Bai Xiangxing’s eyes lit up, and he eagerly opened the message. He saw that his account had been credited with 500,000 stars.
Could it be that…?!
Bai Xiangxing’s eyes shone with excitement as he checked his account. He saw that 300,000 stars were transferred to Shi Zhen as repayment for the borrowed money, consisting of 200,000 principal and 100,000 as interest.
Once the transfer was complete, Bai Xiangxing decided to check Shi Zhen’s account to make sure everything was settled.
However, when he opened Shi Zhen’s account, a long string of zeros blinded him.
[Account Balance: xb15060000] (xb stands for star currency, used instead of the monetary symbol.)
15 Million and sixty thousand starcoins!!!
Bai Xiangxing counted three times, and after confirming that he hadn’t misread the amount, he burst into uncontrollable laughter. “That Shi Zhen, he’s something else! He transferred the money to the account without a word. If I hadn’t checked today, I would have missed it. The moral of the story is, always repay your debts!”
Bai Xiangxing attempted to call Shi Zhen once more, but it remained unreachable. He decided not to bother further and, using partner privileges, transferred 10 million starcoins from Shi Zhen’s account to his own account and then to the company’s account.
“Wan Tong, ask the manufacturer to deliver the equipment as soon as possible,” Bai Xiangxing ordered. The factory selling this equipment was located on S12 planet, a day’s journey from the capital star. Now that the money had arrived early, a swift delivery was essential.
Wan Tong received the instructions and promptly contacted the manufacturer.
Back at home, Bai Xiangxing remained in a good mood, praising Shi Ning for his culinary skills during dinner.
“Xingxing, you sent me an additional hundred thousand stars today,” Shi Ning pointed out.
“No, that’s the interest for you,” Bai Xiangxing responded.
Shi Ning was taken aback, “Interest? How could I take interest, and a hundred thousand for a week’s interest is too much!”
Bai Xiangxing chuckled as he gently patted Shi Ning’s head and said, “Don’t worry, Xinshi is on the right track now. In a couple of months, we’ll have the Changsheng Consortium’s payment, and you’ll get an allowance every month. We’ll even buy you a fully automatic domestic robot, so you won’t have to cook after school.”
“It’s okay, I enjoy cooking.”
“Then, continue cooking if you like, but let the robot handle it when you don’t want to. Don’t overwork yourself,” Bai Xiangxing comforted.
“Xingxing, you’re so good to me,” Shi Ning said, resting his head on Bai Xiangxing’s shoulder.
Before, the Shi family had a household robot, but it had become obsolete over time. Shi Ning was the only one at home most of the time. When he underwent the Omega differentiation, cooking became a compulsory skill.
From the age of ten, Shi Ning had essentially lived alone. His father, suffering from injuries sustained during a mission, had unstable psychic energy and needed the calming influence of an Omega. Consequently, Shi Ning’s mother had always stayed with his father at their base. Shi Ning had grown up under Shi Zhen’s care, but as Shi Zhen enrolled in the military academy and became busy with training and assignments, he was often away, and Shi Ning ended up living alone.
Then Bai Xiangxing appeared. Not only was he attractive, but he also spoke gently. During meals, he would always praise Shi Ning’s cooking skills and wish he could enjoy his delicious dishes every day.
“When are you going to repay me, Bai Xiangxing?” Xiang Rong couldn’t stand the cloying sweetness between the two Omegas and interjected in a less than enthusiastic tone.
“Next time. For now, let’s settle with Shi Ning,” Bai Xiangxing replied.
Shi Ning quickly offered, “I’ll repay on Xingxing’s behalf.”
But Xiang Rong hesitated and said, “No need; you don’t owe me anything.”
After dinner, the three of them sat together in the living room watching TV, mainly Bai Xiangxing and Shi Ning, while Xiang Rong tagged along reluctantly. He was from District 64, had a guarded nature, and strong boundaries. He preferred being alone, but Bai Xiangxing somehow treated him as an old friend and kept him involved. Xiang Rong didn’t like it, but for the sake of smoothly transferring his household registration in the future, he had to compromise for now.
“Little Ning, your brother’s mission. Was he usually punctual when he returned?” Bai Xiangxing suddenly inquired.
“Not necessarily. Sometimes he comes back a few days early, other times a few days late,” Shi Ning replied.
So, how many days late this time?
“Xingxing, are you worried about my brother?” Shi Ning asked, then proceeded to console himself, “Don’t worry, my brother is very capable; nothing will happen to him.”
Bai Xiangxing had just been about to say that he wasn’t worried about Shi Zhen at all, and he just wanted to thank him in person. But when he saw Shi Ning’s face with a look of “you’re concerned about my brother, and I’m relieved,” he could only nod in agreement.
Upon witnessing Bai Xiangxing’s nod, Shi Ning got overly excited and sent a message to his mother behind Bai Xiangxing’s back: “Xingxing is starting to worry about my brother. I think they will get together very soon.”
On the side, Xiang Rong glanced at Shi Ning with a face full of speechlessness. Shi Ning had no idea that he knew that he was talking about the secret relationship between Bai Xiangxing and Shi Zhen, and he was inadvertently revealing it.
Never mind; it’s none of his business.
Bai Xiangxing watched TV for a while and started feeling drowsy. He was about to get up and go back to his room to freshen up and rest when his left smart brain suddenly experienced a strong vibration. Such intense vibrations only occurred when receiving extremely urgent and pressing messages.
Bai Xiangxing’s complexion changed slightly, and he immediately opened his neural brain. A bold, red message popped up: “Your partner, Shi Zhen, has an 80% disruption in pheromone stability.”
What in the world? Was Shi Zhen going into a rut while he was away?
Bai Xiangxing was pondering how to contact Shi Zhen when a call from Lin Qing suddenly came through. He was about to answer it, but he remembered that Shi Ning was still in the living room. So, he came up with an excuse to return to his room and then took the call.
“Xing Shao, do you have a moment now?” Lin Qing appeared on the video call, looking quite agitated.
“I was just about to ask you; I received a message saying that Shi Zhen’s pheromone stability is disrupted. What’s going on?” Bai Xiangxing inquired.
“The captain had an accident during a mission. He’s currently in the hospital.”
“What? Is it serious?”
“It’s hard to say for now. Come to the hospital first.”
“Give me the address.” Bai Xiangxing didn’t ask further questions; he just requested the address.
Bai Xiangxing hadn’t even had time to change his clothes. He grabbed his car keys and rushed out, leaving a hasty command to the two kids to look after the house as he passed through the living room.
Bai Xiangxing rushed like the wind and, half an hour later, arrived at the military hospital under direct jurisdiction. Lin Qing was already waiting there, and without any explanations, he grabbed Bai Xiangxing and rushed into the hospital.
The elevator shot straight up to the eighth floor, but as soon as the elevator doors opened, a wave of scorching lava-like heat hit them. Lin Qing’s face turned pale instantly, and he physically stiffened. It took significant effort to step out of the elevator.
“Xing Shao!” Bai Xiangxing had barely stepped out of the elevator, and he was the center of attention. Outside the elevator, seven or eight Alpha soldiers in combat attire watched him with piercing eyes. His name was called by Shi Zhen’s adjutant, Liang Chen.
“Where’s Shi Zhen?” Bai Xiangxing didn’t even have the mood to exchange greetings; he went straight to the point.
“He’s in the room ahead,” Liang Chen pointed with his hand.
Bai Xiangxing went past them and rushed directly to Shi Zhen’s room. In fact, he didn’t need anyone to point the way. By following the scent of pheromones, he could easily locate Shi Zhen. Behind him, a group of members from the Flame Brigade, who were suppressed by Shi Zhen’s pheromones and dared not come any closer, exchanged glances.
“Impressive, the boss’s partner is entirely unaffected.”
