After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy - Chapter 25
At 5 o’clock in the afternoon, New Shi’s security team successfully landed a decommissioned warship that had been unused for fifteen years at the harbor. An hour later, the equipment was smoothly transported to New Shi’s headquarters.
Bai Xiangxing had stayed at the company and personally greeted the security team upon their return. He initially wanted to ask about the well-being of the entire security team, but he realized that their captain, Du Pengjing, was absent.
Bai Xiangxing was puzzled, “Where’s Captain Du?”
“The captain went home,” one of the security team members, still in combat gear, replied.
“Is there an emergency at home?”
“No, the captain said that since the equipment had been recovered and transported back to the company, he wasn’t needed anymore. So, he went home… Mr. Zhang, why did you step on me?” The sincere security team member didn’t finish his sentence before Mr. Zhang, the manager of the finance department, stepped on him.
Zhang Hongming met the sincere and genuine gaze of the security team member, and he felt the meaningful look from Bai Xiangxing. He couldn’t help but feel a tingling sensation on his scalp. “I walked too fast, and I accidentally stepped on you.”
“You clearly did it on purpose.” Being a soldier, he could tell when someone was acting intentionally.
“I said I walked too fast, and that’s it.” You big simpleton, just be quiet.
“You stepped on me, why are you getting angry?”
“Should I let you step on me in return?”
“No need for that.”
“Thank you,” Zhang Hongming rolled his eyes.
“No need to thank me. Your step didn’t have much force; it didn’t hurt,” the security team member chuckled.
Zhang Hongming closed his eyes tightly and clutched his chest, wishing he could have an acute heart attack and faint right there. What kind of karma was he creating?
“Mr. Zhang, I’ll go check the equipment.”
“Go ahead.” Bai Xiangxing, seeing that Zhang Hongming was almost having a heart attack, didn’t give him a hard time. He waved his hand, allowing him to leave, and then turned to the sincere security team member. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Shicheng,” the security team member stood tall and replied loudly.
“Shicheng, I appreciate your sincerity,” Bai Xiangxing said sincerely.
Comrade Shicheng probably wasn’t used to receiving compliments, and he scratched the back of his head, laughing foolishly.
Bai Xiangxing glanced at the other security team members who were helping move the equipment and asked with concern, “Were there any injuries on this mission?”
“No, it was just a small group of space pirates. They were weak and were quickly subdued by us. We even raided their base.”
“You raided their base? But why did you only transport the equipment back? Did the pirate group only attack our equipment?” Bai Xiangxing asked.
“How is that possible? We recovered quite a few other things.”
“Where are the other things?” Bai Xiangxing inquired.
“We handed them all over to the Interstellar Guardians,” Shicheng replied.
“All of them?” Bai Xiangxing was astonished.
“All of them,” Shicheng nodded.
“You didn’t keep any for yourselves? Space pirates roam between star systems all year round, and most of the things they steal can’t be traced back to their original owners. If these items could circulate, most of them would end up in the national treasury. So, there’s an unwritten rule within the Interstellar Guardians that members who eliminate space pirate groups can keep some of the resources for themselves.”
“How could we keep what doesn’t belong to us?” Comrade Shicheng said straightforwardly.
“All right, Comrade Shicheng, well done. You truly deserve it,” Bai Xiangxing praised him, giving him a thumbs-up. Even though his battle-worn combat suit had turned yellow, he was still so sincere.
Comrade Shicheng, who was praised again, immediately burst into hearty laughter.
Zhou Qirong had an extremely efficient way of doing things. In just an hour, the equipment had been installed in the factory.
Bai Xiangxing, seeing Zhou Qirong fine-tuning the equipment, asked with concern, “Is the equipment okay? Are there any problems?”
“No, the space pirates didn’t even open the packaging; it’s all brand new,” Zhou Qirong replied. He had been waiting for this treasure for seven or eight years, and now that it was right in front of him, he was radiant. His mouth stayed close to his ears, and he didn’t take his eyes off the equipment while talking to Bai Xiangxing.
“All right, Zhou Manager, you’ve worked hard. But remember to rest as well. Now that the equipment has arrived, the work won’t be completed overnight,” Bai Xiangxing expressed his care.
As the head of the company, he needed to appreciate the dedication of his subordinates and show them appropriate care to make them feel the warmth of spring, so they could work wholeheartedly for the company.
“I’ve been waiting for seven or eight years for this day, so there’s no need for rest. Oh, don’t worry about me. I’ll be staying at the factory tonight,” Zhou Qirong said.
Bai Xiangxing was satisfied with his response; he was indeed a qualified leader.
However, Bai Xiangxing was concerned that Zhou Qirong might be working too hard and exhausting himself. After a few words with Wan Tong, he told him to keep an eye on Zhou Qirong’s condition and then asked Wang Ping to drive him back home.
“Wait in the car for a while,” Bai Xiangxing told Wang Ping when they arrived at the house. He intended to go inside and speak to Shi Ning for a few minutes, then change his clothes and head to the hospital to check on Shi Zhen. However, the moment he entered the yard, he saw Shi Zhen in the backyard, wearing only a tank top, practicing martial arts.
As Bai Xiangxing entered, Shi Zhen had just finished a punch and was about to turn around. His tense expression softened almost imperceptibly upon seeing Bai Xiangxing. “You’re back from work.”
“You’ve been discharged from the hospital?”
They spoke almost simultaneously.
Shi Zhen stopped his punch, smiled and nodded. “Yes, I was discharged in the afternoon.”
“Why didn’t you tell me you were discharged?” Bai Xiangxing frowned. If she hadn’t wanted to go home first and change her clothes, she would have made a wasted trip.
“I…” Shi Zhen was a little caught off guard by Bai Xiangxing’s question. He had a habit of not reporting to anyone whether he was entering or leaving the hospital.
Bai Xiangxing noticed that he was stuttering and realized that this guy hadn’t even thought of him.
Of course, they weren’t real husbands, and he didn’t feel like making the trip without good reason.
With a cold face, Bai Xiangxing walked past Shi Zhen and
into the house.
Shi Zhen paused for a moment. Was Bai Xiangxing angry? Was he the one who had caused it?
Xingxing
As Shi Zhen was pondering, Bai Xiangxing, who had just entered the house, seemed to forget something, turned around, and walked out of the house with the same cold expression, passing by Shi Zhen. He walked straight to the door.
Wang Ping, waiting in the car, saw Bai Xiangxing coming out and hurried to get out of the driver’s seat, planning to help him open the door.
“Wang Ping, you can go home for today. Come pick me up early tomorrow morning,” Bai Xiangxing said. He was quite satisfied with the beating Wang Ping had given Bai Xiangqing earlier today. Thus, he had decided to transfer Wang Ping to be his driver and double as a bodyguard for the future.
“Understood.” Wang Ping nodded and, after a military salute to Shi Zhen, who was still standing in the yard, drove away.
When Bai Xiangxing walked past Shi Zhen for the third time with the same cold expression, Shi Zhen began to realize what was going on. Bai Xiangxing hadn’t let Wang Ping leave initially. It should have been to wait for him, but after seeing him, Bai Xiangxing had sent Wang Ping back. Did that mean Bai Xiangxing planned to visit him at the hospital?
Inside the house, Shi Ning and Xiangrong were watching TV. When they saw Bai Xiangxing return, Shi Ning gave him a brief glance before turning away, while Xiangrong stood up and asked, “Xingxing, you’re back! Have you had dinner?”
Bai Xiangxing had returned a bit late today due to waiting for the equipment to be installed at the company.
“I had dinner at the company. By the way, I rushed out last night. I hope I didn’t scare you.” Bai Xiangxing recalled how he had rushed out the previous night without telling the two of them anything, and today had been too busy to check on them. He asked with some concern.
“No, you didn’t.” Shi Ning shook her head.
Xiangrong didn’t respond and continued watching TV.
Bai Xiangxing was primarily concerned about scaring Shi Ning, so he asked, “I was out last night because…”
“You don’t need to explain; I already know,” Shi Ning said. While he spoke, his cheeks turned slightly red.
“You know? Did your brother tell you?” Bai Xiangxing asked.
“Is there any need to say it? The moment he came back, he was full of your pheromones,” Xiangrong said. He had never seen such an unreserved pair of husbands. One came back, and he didn’t bother to hide his pheromones; the other came back, and he even forcefully recreated the events from last night.
A bolt from the blue for Bai Xiangxing: …
Shi Zhen, who had just walked into the house, began to react: …
“Am I going to become an uncle soon?” Shi Ning couldn’t help but ask.
“Uncle? What are you talking about?” Bai Xiangxing couldn’t resist, and he delivered a sound smack to Shi Ning’s head.
Shi Ning let out a painful cry and clutched his head as he sat back down on the sofa.
Xiangrong, on the other hand, had already withdrawn his gaze the moment Bai Xiangxing looked over. He pretended that nothing had happened and continued watching TV. Nevertheless, Bai Xiangxing couldn’t let Xiangrong off either. He strode over and delivered a resounding slap to his forehead.
“Why do you have the right to hit me?” Xiangrong protested.
“Just because I feel like it. Do you dare to fight back?”
Xiangrong was furious: Why don’t you dare to face me in a one-on-one fight, relying on having a husband?
Nonetheless, he had to lower his head when he was under someone else’s roof. Although he was unwilling, he could still restrain himself.
After giving both of them a good scolding, Bai Xiangxing still felt the fire burning inside him. He glared once more at Shi Zhen, who looked somewhat foolish by the door, and then flounced back to his room.
Not until the closing of the door on the second floor produced a “bang” sound did the three of them seem to be released from a binding spell, relaxing.
“Big brother, it’s all because of you. Xingxing smacked me,” Shi Ning complained to his older brother.
Shi Zhen, who had been standing there like a fool, said, “Why did you talk nonsense?”
“Ha, hypocrite. If you didn’t want us to speak nonsense, why didn’t you take a bath before coming back? Your pheromones were so strong; I think you were afraid we wouldn’t notice,” Xiangrong taunted.
Shi Zhen glanced at the teenager, whom Bai Xiangxing had brought back from Sector 64, and was puzzled. It seemed like he had harbored animosity toward this teenager since their first meeting, and Shi Zhen didn’t know the reason behind it. However, as long as the other party behaved themselves, Shi Zhen was too lazy to investigate.
“Brother, don’t you want to go upstairs and comfort Xingxing?” Shi Ning poked his big brother.
Comfort? How should he comfort him? He had no idea how to comfort someone.
As Shi Zhen gazed at Bai Xiangxing’s room on the second floor, he suddenly remembered that he hadn’t told Bai Xiangxing about what had happened with Xiangyan.
With that in mind, Shi Zhen turned around and headed upstairs.
