After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy - Chapter 7
After leaving the marriage registration office, Bai Xiangxing fell asleep in the car once again.
Liang Chen expressed some concern, saying, “It seems like Young Master Star’s health is a bit fragile.”
Shi Zhen, looking at Bai Xiangxing’s sleeping face in the rearview mirror, replied in a subdued tone, “He just recently transitioned to Omega, and his body is still in the recovery phase.”
Omega and Alpha bodies naturally have differences, and even though their physical structure has been altered under the influence of medication, they still require a lengthy recovery period. In the previous life, the major reason for Bai Xiangxing’s sudden death, apart from overworking and staying up late, was that he hadn’t taken proper care of himself when he first transitioned to Omega, leading to underlying health issues.
“Was Young Master Xing really an S-Class Alpha before?”
“Yes.”
“What do you think his feelings were when he first discovered he had become an Omega?”
His feelings? Based on his understanding of Bai Xiangxing, becoming an Omega was probably as unbearable as if he had been killed. He didn’t know what kind of emotional journey Bai Xiangxing had gone through to become like this. Was it for the sake of seeking revenge against Bai Cang and his father?
“He’s doing well now,” Shi Zhen commented without elaboration.
Liang Chen discreetly observed his boss’s expression and, based on the information he had found online about Bai Xiangxing over the past few days, couldn’t resist asking, “Boss, were you and Young Master Xing really arch-enemies back in school?”
The term “arch-enemies” was something Liang Chen naturally didn’t believe in. If they were true arch-enemies, their boss wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to arrange this marriage. It was true that having a mate stabilized an Alpha’s pheromones and psychic power, but that stability was only achieved through complete bonding. An Alpha’s psychic power and pheromones would only become stable if an Omega on the second floor reassured them. However, their boss and Young Master Xing were entering into a contractual marriage. Their boss had just explained a lot, but only one thing was true: Young Master Xing could gain a place of refuge.
Their boss had gone to great lengths for this arranged marriage, all for the sake of sheltering Young Master Xing. With that in mind, how could they possibly be arch-enemies?
“Focus on your driving,” Shi Zhen replied, crossing his arms and closing his eyes to rest.
Liang Chen didn’t ask any more questions. Approximately half an hour later, they arrived back at the Shi family’s residence. As soon as the car came to a stop, Shi Zhen opened his eyes.
Shi Zhen got out of the car and walked over to open the rear door. In the back seat, Bai Xiangxing was still asleep. Shi Zhen thought about waking him up but couldn’t bring himself to do it; Bai Xiangxing looked like he was extremely exhausted.
He really resembled an Omega now. The previous Bai Xiangxing had been delicate but sharp, exuding a strong presence. Now, however, he had an aura that made people want to protect him.
Just then, Bai Xiangxing suddenly woke up. Shi Zhen didn’t have time to evade and found himself locking eyes with a pair of pitch-black ones. In the moment those eyes opened, the pitiable air around Bai Xiangxing vanished.
“Are we at your place?” Bai Xiangxing glanced at the surroundings outside the car and asked.
“Yes,” Shi Zhen replied calmly, shifting aside to give him room.
Bai Xiangxing straightened his clothes and smoothed down his hair before getting out of the car.
Compared to the luxurious mansion that resembled an estate in the Bai family, Shi Zhen’s home appeared much more modest. It consisted of a two-story house and a small courtyard of about thirty square meters. Bai Xiangxing furrowed his brows, thinking that it seemed a bit shabby. Moreover, he had been out of the car for quite a while, and yet, there was no sign of any servants coming to welcome him.
Could this be a new house that Shi Zhen had bought separately, to prevent him from living in the main Shi family residence? Just as Bai Xiangxing was pondering this, a teenage Omega boy with chestnut-colored curly hair rushed out of the house.
“Big brother.” The boy ran straight to Shi Zhen and then fixed his crystal-clear, round eyes on Bai Xiangxing.
Was this Shi Zhen’s younger brother?
Bai Xiangxing knew that Shi Zhen had an Omega younger brother, but he hadn’t realized that his brother would be this cute. With his curly hair and big, dewy eyes, he looked like a little poodle. It was incredibly endearing. Unable to resist, Bai Xiangxing reached out and ruffled the boy’s hair.
“Shi Ning, my brother. Bai Xiangxing, you can call him…”
“Just call me Xingxing Ge .” Bai Xiangxing had always liked sweet and adorable Omegas. Shi Ning had a head of curly hair, big round eyes that were a bit moist, and looked like a poodle. He was incredibly cute, and Bai Xiangxing couldn’t resist reaching out to ruffle his hair.
Shi Ning was naturally curious about his future big sister-in-law. Seeing him in person now, he found that not only was he incredibly beautiful, but he was also very gentle. Immediately, he sweetly called him “Xingxing Ge .”
“So well-behaved,” Bai Xiangxing couldn’t resist and reached out to pat the adorable face of the young Omega.
Shi Ning didn’t find anything wrong with it and felt that his future big sister-in-law was getting closer to him. He liked it when he touched him.
“…,” Shi Zhen.
If he remembered correctly, Bai Xiangxing’s favorite type of Omega when he was still an Alpha was exactly like Shi Ning.
Hold on, he’s an Omega now. It’s fine to pat Shi Ning.
“Let’s go inside,” Shi Zhen reached out and pulled his younger brother to his side.
Bai Xiangxing gave Shi Zhen a puzzled look. Was it his imagination, or did he feel like Shi Zhen was being hostile towards him?
“Xingxing Ge , I’ll show you around our house,” Shi Ning, completely oblivious to his big brother’s intentions, spontaneously approached and held his future big sister-in-law’s hand, leading him into the house affectionately.
“…,” Shi Zhen.
He’s an Omega now. An Omega. An Omega.
“Boss?” Liang Chen’s terrified voice suddenly echoed.
Shi Zhen turned to look and saw that Liang Chen had somehow hidden himself in the yard, staring at him with a terrified expression.
“Why are you hiding so far away?” Shi Zhen furrowed his brow.
“Boss, your pheromones overflowed,” Liang Chen said, his voice trembling. He couldn’t believe how suddenly their boss had gone berserk.
Shi Zhen paused for a moment, cleared his throat, and retracted his pheromones. He then walked into the house as if nothing had happened.
“…” Liang Chen.
By the time Shi Zhen entered the house, Shi Ning had already shown Bai Xiangxing around the living room and kitchen and was heading upstairs to the bedrooms.
“There are five rooms on the second floor. The one furthest inside is my parents’ room, next to it is a study. On this side of the corridor is my room, and there are two more rooms further inside, which are my brother’s room and another study. They’re also your rooms, Xingxing Ge .”
Shi Ning was implying that Bai Xiangxing and Shi Zhen would be sharing a room.
While contemplating this, Bai Xiangxing was led by Shi Ning into Shi Zhen’s room.
“This is the walk-in closet, this is the bathroom, this is the balcony, and over here is a door that connects to the adjacent study.”
The room was quite small, not even as large as his bedroom at the Bai family’s residence. The curtains were dark gray, there wasn’t even a rug by the bed, and apart from a chair and a table, there was no additional decoration. Then there was the walk-in closet, which wasn’t even a tenth the size of his previous one, and oddly, it was mostly empty with just one wall holding a few pieces of clothing.
Was this not a temporary place?
“Xingxing Ge , see if there’s anything else you need, and my brother will buy it for you,” Shi Ning kindly offered.
Reminded by this, Bai Xiangxing remembered that he needed to buy some clothes. When he left the Bai family, he hadn’t taken anything with him. Originally, he intended to ask Shi Zhen for money to buy them, but since they had agreed on a contractual marriage for mutual benefit, Bai Xiangxing didn’t want to take advantage of him. He opened his neural interface to shop online and picked out a few items.
He visited several of his usual online stores, selected the clothes, placed the orders, and went to pay.
“Your account balance is insufficient.”
Insufficient balance?
Bai Xiangxing furrowed his brow and began to check his account, only to discover that his account had been frozen.
“Heh,” Bai Xiangxing couldn’t help but chuckle, finding the situation almost comical. Not only had he been sold, but now his account was also frozen. While he was angry, Bai Xiangxing felt helpless. His previous account was linked to a dividend account of the Bai Corporation, with no spending limit. But now that he had been kicked out of the Bai family, he couldn’t use that account anymore.
“What’s wrong?” Shi Zhen noticed that Bai Xiangxing’s expression had changed and asked.
“The Bai family froze my account,” Bai Xiangxing replied.
Shi Zhen frowned, clearly surprised by the ruthlessness of the Bai family.
“I need to buy some clothes. Can you lend me some money?” Bai Xiangxing asked Shi Zhen.
Shi Zhen nodded without asking how much, opened his own account, and after a moment of operation, Bai Xiangxing’s neural interface received a notification.
“Your partner has granted you account sharing privileges.”
Account sharing? Shi Zhen was being so generous?
Bai Xiangxing raised an eyebrow, appreciating Shi Zhen’s generosity.
Bai Xiangxing wasn’t stingy either, so he immediately granted account access to Shi Zhen. Even though his account had no money at the moment, he would have some in the future. After completing the process, Bai Xiangxing casually opened their joint account to check the balance.
“Total assets: 55,000.1 starcoins.”
“…”
“…”
“What’s wrong?” Shi Zhen found Bai Xiangxing’s meaningful gaze a bit puzzling.
“Your account only has a total of 55,000.1 starcoins.” And it even had some change left.
“Right.” Indeed, that 55,000 was the salary he had just received a couple of days ago.
“This amount of money isn’t even enough to buy me a pair of pants,” Bai Xiangxing said.
Shi Zhen quietly glanced at Bai Xiangxing’s pants.
“What are you looking at?” Could he not inspect his lower half?
“You can buy something cheaper,” Shi Zhen suggested.
And here Bai Xiangxing had thought Shi Zhen was generous, but it seemed that Shi Zhen had a ruthless side.
“I’ll borrow from you. Lend me five hundred thousand first,” Bai Xiangxing said reluctantly.
Shi Zhen silently stared at Bai Xiangxing.
What was he looking at? Would he lend the money or not?
“Xingxing, are you asking for money? I can lend you,” Shi Ning suddenly said from the side.
Bai Xiangxing’s eyes lit up. “Little cutie, you’re much more generous than your brother. Lend me five hundred thousand first, and I’ll pay you back double later.”
“I only have two hundred thousand on me,” Shi Ning said with some embarrassment. “It’s my pocket money and New Year’s gift money that I’ve saved over the years.”
What? Two hundred thousand, and he had to save up for it? Did you really need to save up two hundred thousand?
Shi Zhen remained silent, not because he didn’t want to speak but because he was organizing his thoughts. He had just finished organizing his words to explain the situation to Bai Xiangxing when a vigorous shout came from downstairs.
“Shi Zhen, come down here.”
“It’s my uncle,” Shi Ning grabbed his older brother’s sleeve anxiously and said, “Oh no, your secret deal to exchange a small asteroid for your wife must have been discovered by our uncle.”
Small asteroid? Secretly?
