After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King - Chapter 25
Xie Zhifeng and his sister arrived on the third evening.
The snow on the grassland these days was too heavy, making the horses slip. The guards sent by Lang Sa were worried about startling the Second Prince and the Little Princess of Anyu Kingdom, so they persuaded them to rest for half a day.
By the time they arrived at the grassland, the sun had just set.
Xie Zhiqing had been waiting outside since after lunch. He couldn’t sit still and kept running back and forth. In the end, he stood at the door with a hand warmer in his pocket, waiting anxiously. Lang Sa told him several times to go back, but he didn’t listen.
The wolf guards on duty at the entrance of the grassland had been replaced. They knew that Xie Zhiqing was waiting for someone and that there were important guests arriving today, so they voluntarily went ahead to scout the road and came back with messages every now and then.
However, after waiting for half a day, the two guests still hadn’t arrived.
As the sky grew darker and darker, Xie Zhiqing became increasingly anxious. He couldn’t sit still and paced in circles.
The hand warmer gradually lost its warmth, and Lang Sa sent someone to fetch a thicker coat for Xie Zhiqing and lit a fire nearby, accompanying him as they waited together.
Xie Zhiqing grew more and more restless. He grabbed Lang Sa’s hand, his voice tinged with anxiety, “Could something have happened?”
Lang Sa touched his face and comforted him, “There are only wolves nearby, no other tribes. Nothing will happen, don’t worry.”
Xie Zhiqing naturally knew this, but he was just too anxious, unable to stop asking.
As the sun gradually set and the sky darkened, the firewood that was originally used for warmth now also served as a source of light.
Occasionally, sparks flew out of the firewood, crackling. Xie Zhiqing and Lang Sa didn’t speak, and these few sounds became the only noise here.
“Ah,” Lang Sa suddenly spoke up, “They’re here.”
Xie Zhiqing stood up abruptly, “They’re here?!”
He hurried over to take a look, but was pulled back into Lang Sa’s arms.
“How can you run faster than a horse with your two legs?” Lang Sa smiled wryly, “Just wait here obediently. They’re at the gate and will be here soon. I can already hear them.”
The Wolf King had excellent hearing, which Xie Zhiqing couldn’t match. He tried to break free from Lang Sa’s embrace but couldn’t, so he could only lean against Lang Sa’s chest and continue to wait for the arrival of the party.
The setting sun dyed the originally white clouds golden, and the red sun gradually disappeared behind the winding mountains in the distance.
When the last bit of twilight was about to disappear, the carriage carrying Xie Zhifeng and Xie Zhiyue finally entered Xie Zhiqing’s line of sight.
The anxious mood that had lasted for several days suddenly calmed down. Xie Zhiqing blinked his eyes and quietly watched the carriage in the distance.
As the sun completely set, the last trace of red light fell in the distance, casting everything in the field into red.
The carriage finally arrived on the grassland.
The person in the carriage couldn’t hold back their longing after a long absence. Before the carriage even stopped, they anxiously stuck their head out.
The lingering sunset shone on the girl’s delicate face, as if the sun had set, and stars were immediately rising.
Xie Zhiyue lifted the curtain and looked towards Xie Zhiqing’s direction blankly. She pursed her lips, her long hair scattered by the wind.
The carriage slowly came to a stop.
Xie Zhiyue jumped off the carriage and ran towards Xie Zhiqing, lifting the hem of her dress.
The guards escorting her were afraid she might fall and reached out to help, but Xie Zhiyue waved them away and ran straight towards Xie Zhiqing.
The guards were a little at a loss, unsure whether to follow or not.
At this moment, the other person in the carriage spoke up.
“It’s okay, let her be, just let her go.”
The person’s voice was clear and gentle. He supported himself against the carriage, his fingers slender, and the tips tinged with the pale whiteness of not seeing sunlight for years.
“Excuse me, lend me a hand,” he said.
The escorts had already brought his wheelchair and carefully helped him down from the carriage.
Xie Zhiqing stood in place, watching this scene, his lips trembling slightly.
With red eyes, he walked towards the princess, taking short and slow steps.
Xie Zhiyue also stopped in her tracks. Her eyes were red, with tears still hanging on her cheeks.
She wiped her face with the back of her hand, murmuring “Brother” towards the direction in front of her.
Xie Zhiqing walked quickly towards her, and in the last few steps, he simply ran.
“Sis!”
Xie Zhiqing bent down slightly and embraced his long-lost younger sister.
The girl’s soft arms hung over his shoulders, calling him “brother” again.
Children were always easy to please. Just now, she was tearful, but now she was smiling brightly.
Xie Zhiqing was not much older, and having been spoiled since childhood, he only showed a bit of a brotherly demeanor in front of his little sister. He sniffed and said warmly, “Little Sis, was the journey difficult?”
“Not at all,” Xie Zhiyue shook her head, “Seeing you makes it all worth it.”
Xie Zhiqing felt a mixture of sourness and tenderness in his heart.
He patted Xie Zhiyue’s back, stood up straight, and looked towards his brother sitting quietly in the wheelchair not far away.
His brother was also looking at them.
“Xiaoqing, come,” the person waved to them.
Xie Zhiqing sniffed and held his sister’s hand, walking towards him.
The attendants nearby wanted to help push the wheelchair to reunite the three siblings more quickly.
However, Xie Zhiqing waved them off and said to the attendant, “I’ll do it.”
He held his sister’s hand and walked slowly towards Xie Zhifeng.
The grassland and Anyu were more than a thousand miles apart, but this distance was now reduced to just a few steps.
Xie Zhiqing held his sister with his right hand, bent down slightly, and pressed his cheek tightly against his brother’s head.
Seeing his sister still behaving a bit like a little sister, but when he saw his elder brother, Xie Zhiqing was still the spoiled little prince.
“Royal Brother,” his voice choked, “Are you doing well lately?”
“We’re all fine. Father, Mother, and the eldest brother, everyone is fine and everyone misses you,” Xie Zhifeng smiled gently, “Xiaoqing, you don’t need to worry about anything, everyone is fine.”
—
“Eh…” Lang Xiaoxiao tilted her head, her braided hair falling from her shoulders. She looked curiously at the petite girl in front of her and asked, “Are you Xie Zhiyue?”
Xie Zhiyue raised her eyelids and glanced at her, seeming not quite used to being so close. She took a step back and said softly, “Yes, I am.”
“So cute!” Lang Xiaoxiao cupped her face, “I really want to pinch your cheeks.”
“…Shut up, you brat.” Lang Sa couldn’t stand it and grabbed her neck, dragging her back, “Stop acting crazy in front of others.”
Lang Xiaoxiao looked disappointed, “Oh…”
Feeling awkward, Xie Zhiyue looked away and went to find her two brothers.
Their small house was next to Xie Zhiqing’s. Xie Zhiqing had just said he would go back to get something and had left for a moment. In that short time, the wolf princess had clung to them.
Xie Zhiyue politely greeted the two of them, but she didn’t know how to address Lang Sa. After thinking for a while, she felt that no matter how she addressed him, it didn’t seem right. In the end, she closed her eyes and reluctantly called him “Uncle Wolf King.”
The twenty-four-year-old Lang Sa: “…”
He was quite angry.
Xie Zhiyue was a little scared and quickly turned to find her brother. She ran behind Xie Zhifeng and hid, poking her brother’s shoulder.
Xie Zhifeng: “…”
Previously, Xie Zhifeng hadn’t thought about this issue, and now he was also having a hard time with the address.
After much consideration, he tentatively called out, “Wolf King… Big Brother?”
Lang Sa: “…” Didn’t it mess up the hierarchy?
Just then, Xie Zhiqing finally returned.
Coincidentally, he happened to hear this conversation.
Suppressing his laughter, he squeezed in between the three of them, grabbed Lang Sa’s arm, and said with a smile to his sister, “Xiaoyue, how can you call him uncle! You should call him brother. As for the royal brother—just call him by his name, okay?”
Lang Sa frowned.
After briefly comforting His Royal Highness the Wolf King, Xie Zhiqing took out two things from his arms and handed them to the siblings.
It was the little rabbits he had been making every day and night before.
“Shh…” Xie Zhiqing said mysteriously, “Don’t let Father and the eldest brother know! It’s none of their business!”
Lang Sa signaled the others to quietly leave, leaving the room to the three siblings. He also dragged Lang Xiaoxiao, who wanted to stay behind, away. As he closed the door, he glanced back.
Xie Zhiqing’s eyes were so warm.
Lang Sa sighed with complex emotions.
Xie Zhiyue was tired after all the excitement of the past few days, relying solely on the thought of seeing Xie Zhiqing to support her. Now that she had seen the person she missed, the tension in her had relaxed, and she quickly became sleepy. She fell asleep on Xie Zhiqing’s lap.
Xie Zhiqing smiled and shook his head, bent down to pick her up, and carried her into the bedroom. He instructed the accompanying nanny to take care of her sleeping, while he pushed Xie Zhifeng towards another small house nearby.
Although these two small houses were built hastily, they were not shabby at all. Xie Zhifeng repeatedly praised, “Not bad at all.”
Xie Zhiqing said, “Afraid you wouldn’t be comfortable, Lang Sa put in a lot of effort.”
Xie Zhifeng chuckled, “You’re already speaking up for him.”
Xie Zhiqing blushed and turned his head away without saying anything.
Xie Zhifeng looked at him with a smile for a while and then said, “We were all worried before, afraid that you would be treated unfairly here. The grasslands are far from the emperor’s court, and we don’t know what might happen. But now, it seems—he’s treating you well, isn’t he?”
“It’s… not bad,” Xie Zhiqing replied vaguely.
“Just ‘not bad’?” Xie Zhifeng pressed on relentlessly.
Xie Zhiqing blinked awkwardly and stiffly changed the subject, “Their wolf clan people are really different from us!”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. Xie Zhiqing hurriedly went to open it.
Outside the door was Lang Sa.
Feeling a little guilty, Xie Zhiqing rubbed his nose nervously and said, “What’s up!”
Leaning against the door frame, Lang Sa found it amusing to see him so nervous. He said, “Nothing, just came to ask, to see if your brother and sister need anything, so I can prepare for them.”
Xie Zhiqing looked back at his brother and said nervously, “Nothing for now. You’ve prepared quite well.”
“Good then,” Lang Sa nodded, “You guys talk, I’ll go back first.”
“Okay,” Xie Zhiqing agreed.
Just as Lang Sa was about to leave, Xie Zhiqing stopped him again.
“Lang Sa, um…” he felt a bit embarrassed, “I, I wanted to… tonight…”
Xie Zhiqing rubbed his face and whispered, “I want to talk more with the royal brother. They won’t stay for many days altogether.”
Lang Sa said, “I understand what you mean. Then, will you sleep here tonight? Is that okay?”
As he spoke, he magically pulled out a large package from behind and said, “Actually, I came here to bring you blankets, but I didn’t know how to say it—it would be too strange to say it directly, like I’m kicking you out to sleep.”
Xie Zhiqing chuckled and stepped aside to make room, allowing Lang Sa to come in and put down the blankets. After that, he awkwardly pulled Lang Sa out of the door under his brother’s teasing gaze.
“Then I’ll sleep with my brother tonight.” He hugged Lang Sa’s arm and whispered in his ear.
Lang Sa rubbed his ear and smiled very gently, saying, “Okay.”
Whether it was because he had seen his long-lost relatives or simply because the atmosphere was so good, Xie Zhiqing bit his lip and leaned in to kiss Lang Sa’s cheek.
He still held onto Lang Sa’s arm, looking shy.
“Well, Lang Sa, good night—Mm!”
Before he could finish his sentence, he was kissed by Lang Sa on the back of his head.
Lang Sa’s lips touched his, and although his lips were slightly cold, the kiss was warm.
After a brief moment of surprise, Xie Zhiqing relaxed. He gripped the front of Lang Sa’s shirt with both hands, his acceptance of the kiss shy and awkward.
After all, they were outside, so the kiss didn’t last long. Lang Sa released him, and the two of them leaned their foreheads together, both breathing heavily.
“Go ahead,” Lang Sa kissed his lips again and whispered softly.
When they returned to the room, Xie Zhiqing saw the second prince leaning his right hand on the armrest of the wheelchair, his chin resting on the back of his hand, calmly watching him with a smile.
“The affection is strong,” Xie Zhifeng teased.
Xie Zhiqing lowered his head, pursed his lips, and a small dimple appeared on his face.
His gaze wandered, and he didn’t respond, but his lips were red, and the expression on his face was clearly filled with sweetness.
