After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King - Chapter 6
Walking a few steps outside, Xie Zhiqing felt a bit cold, so he ran back and put on an extra layer of clothing.
Since he had arrived late yesterday, he hadn’t had a chance to properly organize his belongings, so he just pulled out a cape from his bag and draped it over himself. The cape was bright red, with a fur-lined hood that looked both warm and stylish.
This clothing had been given to him by his father on his birthday last year, who said it was red, festive, and complemented his complexion. Xie Zhiqing loved it dearly.
After changing into the new clothes and pulling the hood over his head, he followed Ateus out of the door.
*
Being new to the place, Xie Zhiqing didn’t know the way, so he relied on Ateus to lead the way. He picked up various nameless grasses and tucked them into his arms, all based on Ateus’s indications. As they walked, Ateus would bite down the suitable grasses for Xie Zhiqing to pick up.
As he picked and asked questions like, “Can this be eaten? Is this not poisonous?” and even expressed concern that Ateus might be biting off too much grass, he suddenly realized that Ateus’s expression looked remarkably similar to Lang Sa’s when he was at a loss for words.
He found the similarity amusing and chuckled to himself.
Ateus and Lang Sa seemed to always appear together, to the point where Xie Zhiqing almost forgot that Ateus was an integral part of Lang Sa.
Squatting down, he picked up more grass and, while at it, gently patted Ateus’s head, finally daring to touch it with his whole hand.
“Is this enough?” he asked, looking at the gathered grass. “The rabbit is so small, this should be enough for it for several days. Shall we head back?”
Ateus wagged its tail and turned to walk in the direction they came from.
*
On the way, Xie Zhiqing engaged in an awkward conversation with Ateus. Although he was less fearful now, they hadn’t interacted much, and they weren’t exactly familiar with each other.
Ateus walked ahead of him, occasionally stopping and turning to look at him. During those moments, Xie Zhiqing would quicken his pace to catch up.
Before, he could have never imagined that he would one day follow behind a wolf, letting it guide him back home.
The sun had risen completely, casting the world in a golden hue. The warmth of the world seeped into Xie Zhiqing, and he felt his body growing warmer too.
He took off his hood, continuing to follow Ateus.
Their long shadows stretched out before them, intertwining with each other as they walked, man and wolf.
*
After walking for a while, Ateus suddenly stopped in its tracks.
It turned its head to look at Xie Zhiqing and then approached, grabbing onto his pants leg. It tugged and gestured in the direction of their house, occasionally glancing back at the small house in the distance.
Xie Zhiqing pondered for a moment and asked, “Are you trying to tell me that there’s someone at home and I should hurry back?”
Ateus let go of his pants leg and bobbed its head up and down.
Xie Zhiqing continued, “Is it Lang Sa who has returned?”
Ateus didn’t move.
So, if it wasn’t Lang Sa… Xie Zhiqing wondered, then who could it be? He had just arrived, who would come to find him?
When they neared the house, Xie Zhiqing finally understood.
There was a wolf lying at the doorstep of the small house.
Hearing their approach from afar, it got up from the ground, excitement filling its face as it looked at Xie Zhiqing.
Unlike the stern Ateus, this wolf had a joyful expression on its face. It even had a small pink flower attached behind its ear.
It happily ran over to Ateus, pressing affectionately against its companion. Ateus, as always, maintained its aloof demeanor, but it did extend a front paw to pat the other wolf’s head.
Then, the wolf came over to Xie Zhiqing, rubbing against him. It circled around him several times, tail wagging rapidly.
Xie Zhiqing suddenly realized, “Oh, I see! You’re…?”
Before he could finish his sentence, footsteps echoed behind him. He turned his head and saw—
It was indeed Lang Sa.
He was wrapped in a black robe, his hood fluttering slightly in the cool breeze. He reached up to adjust his hood and then fixed Xie Zhiqing’s hood as well.
Re-fastening the ties that Xie Zhiqing had just loosened, Lang Sa’s fingers paused for a moment, resting lightly on Xie Zhiqing’s chin before finally securing the buttons.
Withdrawing his hand, he adjusted Xie Zhiqing’s hood again and said, “Let’s go back.”
Xie Zhiqing’s red cape cocooned him, exposing only his fair face. He held a bundle of grass in his arms and obediently followed behind Lang Sa. As they walked, he calculated how much of this grass would be enough for the little rabbit, and what else he should prepare.
Amidst the playful laughter of Lang Sa, who had returned, the three figures gradually disappeared into the distance.
Xie Zhiqing watched her with a smile, mouthing the words, “Your brother will scold you if he sees you like this.”
Lang Sa, who was walking ahead, suddenly halted his steps.
He turned to look at Lang Xiaoxiao and said, “What are you doing? Which princess in the world carries grass in her mouth like you do?”
Lang Xiaoxiao was at a loss and could only make a face at Lang Sa before running off with Tannis.
After sending her little sister away, Lang Sa turned his head to look at Xie Zhiqing, who had been stifling his laughter.
He seemed to sigh and then playfully flicked Xie Zhiqing’s forehead with his finger.
“Alright, give me the grass,” Lang Sa reached over and took the bundle of grass from Xie Zhiqing’s arms. Then, he muttered quietly to himself, “Holding grass, you look just like a rabbit…”
Xie Zhiqing didn’t hear him clearly, so he leaned in and asked, “What did you say?”
“…” Lang Sa cleared his throat, saying, “Nothing.”
However, Xie Zhiqing was reluctant to hand over what he was holding. “I’ll just hold onto it. The little rabbit is afraid of you.”
Lang Sa grumbled, “Fine!”
For the rest of the short journey, Lang Sa walked silently in front, and Xie Zhiqing obediently followed with his bundle of grass. As for Ateus, it remained far behind.
As Xie Zhiqing’s head began to feel a bit dizzy, he contemplated the events of the day. In the morning, he was led by Ateus, and now during midday, he was being guided back by Lang Sa.
He looked up at the imposing figure of the Wolf King ahead and took a couple of quick steps to catch up.
Coincidentally, Lang Sa slowed his pace just in time, waiting for Xie Zhiqing to catch up.
