After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King - Chapter 61
That day, Xie Zhiqing and Lang Sa went to see their baby as usual.
The day when the baby could finally come home was approaching, and the two had some questions to consult with the elders about, so after lunch, they set out to visit her.
Xie Lingyue’s little room was originally quiet, but as soon as the elders responsible for looking after her heard footsteps at the door, they immediately came out to greet them.
Just as they stepped out, the sound of a fussy baby came from inside the room.
Xie Zhiqing was startled. “What’s wrong? Why is she suddenly upset?”
He thought the baby might be hungry or uncomfortable and hurried in to check.
However, Xie Lingyue was neither hungry nor uncomfortable. The moment she saw Xie Zhiqing, her face lit up with a big smile.
Her little hand rested on the edge of the bed, and she waved her chubby fingers at Xie Zhiqing.
Seeing that she was fine, Xie Zhiqing was relieved. He carefully walked over and held her hand. Bending down, he softly called her name, “Lingyue, be good. Daddy and Papa are here to see you today.”
He gently pinched her little fingers—though he often “complained” about the dark little paws, now that those paws had turned into the chubby fingers of a human baby, Xie Zhiqing found them somewhat unfamiliar.
He even felt a bit of a desire to pinch them again…
Xie Lingyue grinned at him.
“Lang Sa, come here,” Xie Zhiqing called out to the Wolf King.
However, just as he moved his gaze away, Xie Lingyue’s little chubby hand reached out again. She poked at Xie Zhiqing’s face with her tiny fist, babbling some indistinct sounds.
“What’s the matter?” Xie Zhiqing asked softly. “Let Daddy hold you, okay?”
He then turned to look for Lang Sa.
Xie Lingyue immediately reached out to touch him again.
After a few tries, Xie Zhiqing seemed to understand—every time he tried to look away, Xie Lingyue would start fussing for his attention.
The young prince seemed to have made a significant discovery.
He looked down thoughtfully, then stood up as if intending to leave.
This time, Xie Lingyue grabbed his clothes.
Delighted, Xie Zhiqing sat back down and called out excitedly to Lang Sa, “Lang Sa, she won’t let me leave!”
Xie Lingyue made a sound, as if responding to his words.
Lang Sa, holding a small bowl of milk, walked over to them. He placed the bowl to the side and freed up his hands, one supporting the edge of Xie Lingyue’s bed and the other pressing gently on Xie Zhiqing’s back.
The Wolf King leaned down, staring closely at the baby.
The father and daughter seemed to be engaged in some silent communication.
After a while, Lang Sa smiled.
He pulled Xie Zhiqing’s hand over and wrapped it around the baby’s soft little fist.
Sure enough, Xie Lingyue’s face showed a satisfied smile.
Xie Zhiqing, not understanding their silent exchange, anxiously asked, “What’s going on? What does it mean?”
Lang Sa straightened up, letting Xie Zhiqing lean against his abdomen, and said, “She recognizes us now. She wants to keep seeing you and feels secure when you’re holding her hand.”
Xie Zhiqing was stunned. “Recognizing us… What does that mean?”
Lang Sa, who rarely showed such a clear expression of joy, had a relaxed and proud look on his face.
He rubbed Xie Zhiqing’s cheek and loudly said, “It means Xie Lingyue knows we are family now!”
Xie Zhiqing looked up at him, still seeming to struggle to grasp what he was hearing.
At that moment, Xie Lingyue’s little fist moved in his palm, and her mouth made a few unclear babbling sounds.
Her round, black eyes stared at Xie Zhiqing, and her short fingers poked at his hand.
A belated but overwhelming joy suddenly struck Xie Zhiqing.
He pointed to himself with his finger, stammering for a while, but couldn’t get out a coherent sentence.
In the end, it was Lang Sa who held him and gently said to the baby, “You’ll be going home in a couple of days, Lingyue. Are you happy?”
Xie Lingyue grinned. Her little finger kept poking at Xie Zhiqing’s hand, and this time, she waved her other hand, aiming her little fist at Lang Sa.
Originally, they thought she would lightly tap Lang Sa as she did to Xie Zhiqing, but instead…
**Thud**—
Xie Lingyue landed a solid punch on Lang Sa’s hand, the impact was so strong that even Artes, who was standing in the corner, was startled by the sound.
The innocent Lang Sa, who got punched: “…”
Xie Zhiqing blinked and cautiously said, “…Lingyue, you shouldn’t hit your daddy.”
But as soon as he said that, Xie Lingyue threw another punch.
Xie Zhiqing: “…”
Lang Sa, speechless, asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Xie Lingyue withdrew her fist and innocently looked at him while chewing on her finger.
Lang Sa couldn’t help but laugh and said, “You’re small now, so I’ll let it go this time. But just you wait.”
Xie Zhiqing, embarrassed, chuckled and said, “Lingyue is a wild beast cub, so she probably doesn’t know how to control her strength! We’ll teach her slowly; don’t get upset…”
As he spoke, Xie Lingyue softly poked at Xie Zhiqing again—with the same little hand that had caused trouble twice before.
Xie Zhiqing: “.” Fine, I’ll pretend I didn’t say anything.
He had a vague feeling that his little baby might turn out to be a little troublemaker in the future…
In front of him, the Wolf King was muttering about how he’d make sure to discipline Xie Lingyue properly in the future.
Looking down, the baby was happily smiling at her dad while gnawing on her finger, completely unfazed by the fuss she’d caused.
Xie Zhiqing was starting to get a headache.
Luckily, the elders returned from their break in time to rescue Xie Zhiqing from his predicament.
He quickly pulled on Lang Sa’s arm and said urgently, “Let’s… let’s come to pick her up tomorrow!”
With that, he grabbed Lang Sa and hurried out.
On the way home, Lang Sa was still fuming, grumbling unhappily.
“She’s really making me angry,” Lang Sa grumbled, “She was kicking and punching me even when she was still in the womb.”
Xie Zhiqing smiled, his eyes curving into crescents, as he held onto Lang Sa’s arm. “She’s just too lively.”
Lang Sa snorted.
“We’ll teach her well from now on,” Xie Zhiqing said gently. “I’ll teach her. How could she hit her daddy? Such a naughty baby—”
Before he could finish, Xie Zhiqing suddenly noticed that the Wolf King was no longer beside him.
He turned around and saw—
Lang Sa squatting a few steps behind him, staring intently at the ground with a serious expression.
“What’s wrong?” Xie Zhiqing asked as he walked over to see.
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Lang Sa stood up, casually shifting his position to block Xie Zhiqing’s view. He pointed down nonchalantly at a spot on the ground and said, “I noticed that the snow here hasn’t been completely cleared, so I stopped to take a look.”
He then put his arm around Xie Zhiqing’s shoulder and continued walking, “Lately, we haven’t had time to take care of these things. Those little cubs are really slacking off. It’s already May, and there’s still snow on the ground—it’s outrageous. We’ll have to give them a good scolding when we get back.”
Xie Zhiqing didn’t suspect anything and laughed, “Alright.”
After they had walked quite a distance, Lang Sa glanced back.
There was indeed snow on the ground, but…
The grasslands were cold and dry, so it wasn’t unusual for the snow not to have melted completely, even in May.
That was perfectly normal.
What really caught Lang Sa’s attention were the deep, plum blossom-shaped footprints in the snow.
At first glance, they looked like the paw prints of a mature wolf, but the more Lang Sa looked, the more something seemed off.
It looked more like a tiger than a wolf.
He recalled the tiger that had appeared on the edge of the grasslands before mysteriously disappearing.
Lang Sa made a mental note of this and planned to investigate it thoroughly later.
When they got home, he smiled and told Xie Zhiqing, “Lingyue will be coming home tomorrow. You two should rest well during this time.”
He lied through his teeth, “After the Zhi Hua process, both the baby and the little wolf cub will be very weak for the next month or two. They need to recuperate. You two should stay at home and not wander around.”
“Oh…” Xie Zhiqing responded, a little disappointed. “Is that so? Alright then…”
Lang Sa rubbed his head and pulled him into a hug. His tone was casual, but his expression was slightly serious.
After that, they did a little cleaning up around the house, setting up the baby’s crib and the little wolf cub’s nest.
When the old Wolf King and Queen had prepared their new room, they hadn’t thought this far ahead—who could have predicted that in just a few short months, Xie Zhiqing would be carrying a baby as well?
Their double bed wasn’t too big or too small—perfect for two adults, but a bit cramped if a baby was added in the middle.
After some consideration, they decided to set up a small bed next to theirs, so Xie Lingyue and Wuerma could sleep together.
Lang Sa said seriously, “After the Zhi Hua process, the baby will grow at an incredible speed. She might not want to sleep with her parents. Besides, for us wolves, our beast form is our best companion for life. It’s important for them to bond from a young age.”
Xie Zhiqing looked skeptical, “Really? Are you being completely sincere? No ulterior motives at all?”
“…” Lang Sa thought to himself, Xiao Qing’er has gotten smarter.
He cleared his throat and said, “Alright, I admit I have some ulterior motives. But what I said is true!”
Xie Zhiqing made a face at him, wrinkled his nose, and poked his waist.
So, the baby’s and the little wolf cub’s bed was temporarily placed next to their parents’ bed.
Besides setting up the small bed, the two of them also tidied up some other things around the house.
Xie Zhiqing moved Fufu’s little cage to a corner a bit farther away—honestly, given Xie Lingyue’s lively personality so far, he was really worried that she might end up “bullying” Fufu in the future. Xie Lingyue was his baby, but Fufu was also his little darling. The little wolf and the little rabbit needed to get along well. Until they got used to each other, it was better to keep them separate for now.
Lang Sa, on the other hand, moved Artes’ wolf den into the room.
Beastfolk are far more sensitive to the arrival of new life than humans and are instinctively skilled at caring for little ones.
He squatted on the ground, speaking seriously to the big wolf, “Artes, when Wuerma comes home, you need to take good care of her, understand?”
Artes looked solemn, his stern wolf face filled with a seriousness that inspired trust.
Lang Sa extended his right hand in front of Artes and said, “Promise?”
Artes looked at him, then unhesitatingly extended his right paw, solemnly placing it in Lang Sa’s hand.
He couldn’t speak, but his eyes fixed on his master, silently conveying, “Promise.”
After Xie Zhiqing finished tidying up Fufu’s cage, he saw the two wolves squatting on the ground and immediately ran over to join them.
“What are you doing?” Xie Zhiqing asked, holding his face in his hands. Seeing them with one hand and one paw overlapping, he quickly placed his own hand on top.
“I want in too!” he exclaimed cheerfully.
Lang Sa ruffled his hair.
Just then, Fufu started to protest, hopping around in her cage.
“Alright, alright, Fufu wants in too!” Xie Zhiqing went over and let Fufu out.
The little rabbit hopped over to the two wolves, but Xie Zhiqing quickly picked her up and cradled her in his arms.
Holding Fufu, he said happily, “Alright, starting tomorrow, we won’t just be a family of four anymore!”
He blushed slightly and squinted his eyes in joy, “Starting tomorrow, we’ll be a family of six!”
Lang Sa pulled him into his arms, his smile broad.
He closed his eyes and said, “Yes, a family of six.”
**Author’s Note:**
Some of you were asking in the comments about the little tiger, so let me clarify. The little tiger is just a minor character, so there’s no need to worry about it.
