After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King - Chapter 62
The next day, they would be bringing Xie Lingyue home. That night, neither of them slept well, spending nearly the entire night whispering and chatting.
Xie Zhiqing rested his hand under his cheek, his face scrunched up in both anticipation and anxiety. “What do you think, when will the baby learn to talk? Human babies usually start mimicking simple words around the age of one.”
Lang Sa thought seriously for a moment before responding, “I remember when Lang Xiaoxiao was born, she quickly started saying simple words, but it took about a year before she could say a complete sentence.”
Xie Zhiqing let out a small “oh,” a bit disappointed. “Lingyue is only two months old, but she’s already making cooing sounds. I thought she’d learn to talk really soon.”
“No rush.” Lang Sa stroked his face and said, “Just take your time teaching her. I think she’s pretty smart.”
Then he tapped Xie Zhiqing’s nose and softly added, “Just like you.”
Xie Zhiqing sighed softly, “You’re just flattering me.”
Lang Sa replied, “I’m not. I really hope Xie Lingyue will be as smart and as beautiful as you.”
He kept talking, and Xie Zhiqing, though embarrassed, couldn’t help but want to hear more.
He scratched his face and quietly asked, “Then, Lang Sa, do you think… do you think…”
Lang Sa knew exactly what he wanted to ask but pretended to be clueless, “What do I think?”
Xie Zhiqing’s face was about to burn up as he whispered, “Do you think Lingyue looks like me?”
Inside, Lang Sa felt like a little person was laughing uncontrollably, but he kept a straight face and said, “Lingyue is still so small, her features haven’t fully developed yet, so it’s hard to tell.”
“Is that so?” Xie Zhiqing couldn’t hide his disappointment.
Lang Sa couldn’t hold back any longer. He pulled Xie Zhiqing into his arms, kissed him on the forehead, and laughed, “Just teasing you! The baby’s big eyes look exactly like yours!”
Xie Zhiqing lifted his eyes to glance at him, scrunched his nose, and smiled.
It was strange; even though talking about the baby had been so exciting, being held by the Wolf King now made him feel sleepy again.
With the last bit of energy he had, Xie Zhiqing told Lang Sa, “I’m going to sleep now.”
A gentle kiss landed on his head, a broad hand gently patted his back, and Lang Sa’s deep voice echoed in his ear.
“Sleep well.”
And so, they both had a peaceful night.
The next afternoon, they went to bring Xie Lingyue home.
Today, Xie Lingyue wasn’t as mischievous as she had been the day before. She lay quietly in her crib and, upon hearing Xie Zhiqing’s footsteps, reached out with her chubby little hands.
She was dressed in the little clothes that Xie Zhiqing had brought over a few days ago, and the red fabric made her face look even cleaner and fairer—besides her eyes, her nose and mouth also bore a faint resemblance to Xie Zhiqing’s.
Lang Sa picked her up. He looked at his daughter’s little face, then at Xie Zhiqing’s, and the more he looked, the more he felt they truly resembled each other.
The Wolf King started daydreaming again about how their family would soon have three little bunnies…
But the beautiful daydream didn’t last long.
Because Xie Lingyue, who was in his arms, started causing trouble again. She scratched her nose, gave a sly grin, and suddenly headbutted Lang Sa—
Lang Sa gave her a calm look, his expression unruffled, but his gaze was full of warning, as if daring her to try it again.
Xie Lingyue pouted but then settled down.
Only then did Lang Sa smile in satisfaction. He looked up and saw that Xie Zhiqing was still busy asking the elders all sorts of questions, so he whispered, “Hmph, you think you can outsmart me?”
Xie Lingyue pursed her lips, clearly unhappy.
Over there, Xie Zhiqing finally finished talking with the elders.
He had carefully asked about Xie Lingyue’s routine and her behavior over the past few weeks. The elders spoke kindly, but Xie Zhiqing could still get the gist of it—his little baby was very, well, active.
According to the elders, ever since the Zhi Hua process was completed, Xie Lingyue had almost daily “escaped,” secretly climbing out of her little crib to explore here and there. The elders had to search for her every day to find the little princess.
Xie Zhiqing: “…”
How could this be? Although he was a bit mischievous himself and liked to sneak out of the palace when he was younger, he had still been a well-behaved child!
Xie Zhiqing fumed inwardly, convinced that this temperament must have been inherited from Lang Sa!
Lang Sa had no idea he was being blamed—he was currently being pestered by Wu’erma.
Generally speaking, wolves who have fully completed the Zhi Hua process don’t have much of a difference in personality between their human and beast forms, like him and Ateus, or Lang Xiaoxiao and Tanis. And the same could be said for…
Their two little darlings.
Specifically, Wu’erma was now lying at his feet, having already torn his pant leg to shreds.
Lang Sa: “…”
These two little troublemakers were truly giving him a headache.
Meanwhile, Xie Zhiqing’s brief bout of anger quickly faded, his good nature returning as he happily came over to help Lang Sa.
He took Xie Lingyue from the Wolf King’s arms, rubbing his forehead against hers, and cheerfully said, “Time to go home!”
Xie Lingyue cupped his face with both hands, grinning from ear to ear. Wu’erma, who was at his feet, wagged his tail at him, no trace of the earlier mischief in sight.
Lang Sa: “…”
The Wolf King was speechless and resigned.
On the way home, Xie Lingyue was very excited. One moment she wanted to be held by Xie Zhiqing, the next she wanted to ride on Lang Sa’s shoulders, making a fuss the whole way.
Wu’erma was also busy, playfully following them with a bouncy stride, often bumping into Xie Zhiqing’s legs.
The entire journey was lively, to say the least.
Spring had arrived, and the weather wasn’t as cold, but Xie Zhiqing still didn’t dare give the baby a bath, afraid she might catch a cold and get sick. So, after they got home, he simply took a clean cloth, soaked it in warm water, and gently wiped her down before changing her into fresh clothes.
Xie Lingyue sat in a little white robe, looking adorable. The fabric of the robe was something Xiaochan had spent days searching for—it just happened to match the grayish-white color of wolf fur, with two round, pointed ears on top and a short tail trailing behind.
She had shed her wolf traits only to be dressed in clothes that looked like a little wolf.
Xie Zhiqing couldn’t get enough, watching her with a smile on his face, completely captivated.
However, compared to the very cooperative Xie Lingyue, Wu’erma seemed a bit impatient.
He didn’t like the strange little clothes, jumping onto the bed and curling up next to the baby. After Xie Lingyue patted his head with her little hand, Wu’erma hesitated for a moment before jumping off the bed to fetch the little clothes he had just rejected, draping them over himself.
“You’re so good!” Xie Zhiqing was once again overwhelmed by the cuteness.
Out of his sight, Xie Lingyue extended a chubby thumb from her long sleeve and gave Wu’erma a thumbs-up.
Silently witnessing all of this, Lang Sa couldn’t help but marvel: just what kind of character is our little baby?
After an afternoon of activity, even though Xie Lingyue was lively and playful, she eventually got tired. By dinnertime, she was noticeably less energetic.
The baby was not even three months old yet, so she could only drink milk and not eat anything else. As Xie Zhiqing fed her milk, he said, “Lingyue, just wait a little longer. When you’re four months old, you can start having solid food.”
Lingyue drank her milk obediently from his hand, her expression uncharacteristically docile.
It wasn’t long before she started getting sleepy.
Xie Zhiqing whispered to Lang Sa, “After all, she’s still just a child.”
To make sure Xie Lingyue could rest, Xie Zhiqing and Lang Sa also went to bed early—Xie Zhiqing had been so excited today that now, finally relaxed, he fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Lang Sa, however, wasn’t sleepy. He held Xie Zhiqing close, letting him rest his head on his chest, while he occasionally turned to check on Xie Lingyue and Wu’erma.
The little prince was very light, and resting on Lang Sa’s chest didn’t weigh him down at all. Xie Lingyue had been fussing all day, and now she was finally quiet.
The room was very silent. Apart from the soft breathing, even the little animals didn’t make a sound.
Yet, this quiet room felt so lively to Lang Sa.
His little wife, their baby, their family of six.
As he thought about this, he unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
*
In the middle of the night, the room was still quiet.
Ateus, who was sleeping in the corner, suddenly twitched an ear. It yawned, slowly got up from the floor, and walked over to Xie Lingyue’s crib.
It put its front paws on the edge of the crib and leaned in to take a look.
Sure enough, Xie Lingyue was awake.
With a beast’s more sensitive hearing, Ateus had heard a tiny noise in its sleep and came to check on it.
Xie Lingyue blinked her big eyes at Ateus and sucked on her thumb.
The two wolves seemed to exchange some sort of communication, and soon Ateus understood.
It left the crib, wandered around the room for a bit, and finally found one of Lang Sa’s old shirts. It tore the shirt into thick, long strips of cloth and then jumped back onto the baby’s crib.
Ateus used the strips to wrap Xie Lingyue up tightly, layering the cloth several times and even tying a bow with its teeth!
Xie Lingyue looked down at herself and patted Ateus on the head in satisfaction.
Then, Ateus picked up the bow with its mouth and carried Xie Lingyue over to the nearby large bed, placing her… in Lang Sa’s arms.
Lang Sa, still holding Xie Zhiqing, was dreaming when he suddenly felt something heavy in his arms.
He struggled to open his eyes and saw—
A plump, beautiful little baby with shiny, round eyes that looked just like the little prince in his arms.
It took Lang Sa a moment to process what was happening. Oh, this is Xie Lingyue, their baby, the one they brought home earlier that day.
He and Xie Lingyue stared at each other for a while before he finally scratched his head and sat up. Holding the baby, he asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong? Are you hungry?”
Xie Lingyue obediently looked up at him.
Lang Sa said, “Oh, okay, I’ll go warm up some milk for you…”
The Wolf King had been jolted awake from sleep, his mind still foggy. He carefully cradled Xie Lingyue, then turned back to tuck the blanket around Xie Zhiqing before getting up to warm the milk.
Not long after, Xie Zhiqing woke up too.
He groggily turned over, suddenly noticing that the warmth beside him was gone.
Rubbing his eyes, he realized no one was there.
“Lang Sa?” Xie Zhiqing’s eyes hadn’t yet adjusted to the darkness, so he could only vaguely see a figure in the distance and called out, “Where are you?”
Lang Sa responded, “I’m warming up some milk for the baby.”
Xie Zhiqing mumbled an “oh.” He sat on the bed for a while, and when his eyes adjusted to the dark, he saw the Wolf King standing shirtless at the table, his back turned toward him.
Xie Zhiqing tilted his head, watching for a moment, and then smiled. He got out of bed, walked barefoot to Lang Sa, and hugged him from behind.
