After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King - Chapter 63
Lang Sa heard movement behind him and turned to look, his brows furrowing slightly. “It’s cold, go back to bed.”
His gaze swept over Xie Zhiqing’s bare feet, and his brows knitted even tighter. “Not even wearing shoes—aren’t you cold?”
If he weren’t holding Xie Lingyue, he’d probably carry Xie Zhiqing back to bed himself.
Xie Zhiqing ignored this and didn’t answer. Instead, he walked over with a smile, hugging Lang Sa from behind and pressing his cheek against his warm back.
“Why did you get up?” The little prince had just woken up, and his voice was thick with sleepiness.
Lang Sa moved his arm, showing him what he was holding.
Only then did Xie Zhiqing notice the baby in the Wolf King’s arms.
Xie Zhiqing’s drowsiness vanished instantly. He let out a soft “Ah” and asked quietly, “Is the baby hungry?”
Xie Lingyue blinked her eyes at him. Lang Sa held a small bowl near her mouth, but the little one refused to drink milk properly, getting a bit on her chin and collar.
Lang Sa clicked his tongue and said, “Ateus came over earlier and dropped little Lingyue into my arms—so I got up to warm the milk for her.”
He was holding the baby in one arm and the milk bowl in the other, which made it difficult to move. Seeing this, Xie Zhiqing took the bowl, tested the temperature, then found a small spoon to patiently feed Xie Lingyue.
Whether it was because the position was right or because Lingyue was used to being coddled, she became much more obedient after Xie Zhiqing took over. However, after just a few sips of milk, Lang Sa snatched the bowl back.
Xie Lingyue let out a whimper, her little face scrunching up.
Lang Sa looked down at her and bared his teeth in mock anger, “Behave!”
Then he glanced at Xie Zhiqing’s feet and said, “Go back to bed. I’ll handle this.”
Xie Zhiqing replied, “I’m not cold.”
Lang Sa raised an eyebrow at him.
Xie Zhiqing smiled helplessly, feeling a bit warm inside. He leaned down to kiss Xie Lingyue’s cheek and whispered, “Be good, okay? Don’t make trouble for Daddy. I’m going back to bed now!”
With that, he quickly ran back to bed.
As soon as he pulled the blanket over himself, Xie Zhiqing remembered something and hurriedly called out, “Lang Sa, don’t forget to burp her!”
“…Got it,” Lang Sa replied, exasperated.
At this moment, Xie Lingyue turned away from the bowl, looking particularly pleased with herself.
If she weren’t so small and still learning, Lang Sa might have suspected she was about to put her hands on her hips.
The Wolf King dutifully fed Xie Lingyue until she was full, burped her, and finally returned to bed.
Xie Zhiqing, of course, was still awake. He carefully lifted the blanket so Lang Sa could lie down, whispering, “You told me off for not wearing shoes, but you’re not wearing a shirt. Aren’t you cold?”
Lang Sa replied, “No, I don’t get cold. My skin is thick.”
Despite his words, before hugging Xie Zhiqing, Lang Sa warmed his hands first before daring to place them on the little prince’s waist.
Xie Zhiqing snuggled into his arms, and like every other night, they fell asleep holding each other.
However, sleep didn’t come easily that night.
After a while, Xie Zhiqing couldn’t help but ask quietly, “Lang Sa, are you asleep?”
Lang Sa, with his eyes closed, replied, “No.”
“Why aren’t you asleep?” Xie Zhiqing pressed his fingertips against his eyelids, worried. “Did the baby wake you, and now you can’t fall back asleep?”
That was part of it, but…
Lang Sa said, “Not really… It’s just… it feels kind of new.”
He shifted, letting Xie Zhiqing lie on his chest. Stroking the little prince’s soft hair, he continued, “When Ateus woke me up, I had no idea what was going on. I looked down and found Lingyue in my arms. That feeling… it’s hard to describe.”
Xie Zhiqing blinked, his expression mischievous. “You find her troublesome, but you also think it’s a pretty nice experience, right?”
“…Not troublesome, not at all…” Lang Sa denied.
“I don’t believe you; it’s written all over your face,” Xie Zhiqing teased.
Lang Sa quickly explained, “It’s not that she’s troublesome, it’s just… I’m not used to it! There are so many differences between a child and an adult; taking care of her is really overwhelming.”
Xie Zhiqing pressed his ear against Lang Sa’s chest, wrapping his arms around his waist. “It takes time to get used to it… I feel the same way, sometimes not knowing what to do when I’m with the baby.”
Lang Sa pinched his ear lobe and hugged him tighter. “We’ll learn together, no need to worry too much.”
He tapped Xie Zhiqing’s nose and added, “You’re just overthinking it.”
Now it was Xie Zhiqing’s turn to feel sheepish. “I’m not overthinking…”
Lang Sa frowned playfully. “How could you not be? You care more about the baby than you do about me.”
Xie Zhiqing quickly defended himself, “That’s not true.”
He was like that—knowing Lang Sa was teasing him, but still wanting to explain earnestly.
Lang Sa knew this all too well and decided to push further. “How could it not be? I want midnight milk too, and I want to be burped before bed.”
“…” Xie Zhiqing wanted to laugh, but seeing Lang Sa’s serious expression, he weakly argued, “You… you’re the Wolf King, a grown man. There’s no milk suitable for someone your age, none at all.”
Lang Sa smirked. “Is that so? Not necessarily.”
With that, he flipped over, pressing Xie Zhiqing beneath him, his head nuzzling into his neck.
“Not at all? I don’t believe it; let me check!”
“Ah!” Xie Zhiqing laughed and cried for help, but his hands instinctively wrapped around the Wolf King’s waist.
Since sleep wasn’t coming anyway, they decided to expend their energy another way—Lang Sa wouldn’t admit that seeing Xie Zhiqing barefoot on the floor had already put him in the mood.
“Let me check,” Lang Sa murmured, his lips brushing against Xie Zhiqing’s as he spoke.
Even in the darkness, Xie Zhiqing’s skin remained pale. His feet pressed against the dark sheets, his arches held firmly by another pair of hands.
His round toes curled and took a long time to uncurl.
“Lang Sa, Lang Sa…” Xie Zhiqing cried out between breaths, “My ears, my ears—”
The Wolf King straightened up, pinching his chin as he asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong with your ears? Isn’t Xiao Qing’er the one who loves furry ears the most?”
Xie Zhiqing whimpered and leaned into Lang Sa’s hand.
Lang Sa, relentless, continued, “What’s wrong with your ears? Oh—I know, you got my ears wet and now you want to help dry them, right?”
Xie Zhiqing refused to answer, burying his face in Lang Sa’s palm.
Finally, Lang Sa stopped teasing and bit gently on his earlobe.
The night quietly passed, and dawn began to break.
*
Ever since they brought Xie Lingyue home, the routine the two had worked so hard to establish started to fall apart again.
Xie Lingyue was very young and full of energy, perfectly inheriting the nocturnal habits of the wolf tribe. Every night she would be restless—tonight she needed milk, tomorrow she needed to use the potty, and the day after she wanted to play with Fufu.
Xie Zhiqing and Lang Sa spent their days playing with her, but the nights remained the same.
This cycle went on and on.
Lang Sa consulted the experienced elders of the wolf tribe and also asked Doctor Sun several times. They all said there was no good solution; the little princess had too much stamina…
Xie Zhiqing was fine, as he didn’t have pressing matters that required his attention.
Lang Sa, on the other hand, was different. Though the birth of the little princess was significant, the affairs of the wolf tribe couldn’t be neglected, and Lang Xiaoxiao, the only one who could help, had been sent to Anyu. Many things had to be handled by Lang Sa himself.
So Xie Zhiqing ended up spending more time during the day with Xie Lingyue.
One noon, after lunch, Lang Sa had some urgent business and went out.
As usual, he left Ateus behind.
However, Ateus didn’t stay for long—recently, Xie Zhiqing had been focusing on the baby and somewhat neglecting the little rabbit at home.
Fufu was very well-behaved and understood that the young master had more important things to do and couldn’t always be with her. But the more obedient and understanding she was, the more guilty Xie Zhiqing felt.
So that day, he sent Ateus to take Fufu for a walk.
Ateus hesitated, looking at Xie Zhiqing and then at Xie Lingyue.
Xie Zhiqing said gently, “It’s okay, I’ll take care of Lingyue. You haven’t taken Fufu out for a while, so go ahead!”
That was indeed true.
Ateus was mature and steady, but as a wild beast, he still enjoyed running around. Upon hearing this, he stood up, opened Fufu’s little cage, and carried her on his back to take her out for a walk.
At times like this, Xie Zhiqing sincerely felt relieved to have Ateus at home.
With Xie Lingyue lying quietly in his arms and Wu’erma quietly nestled at his feet, Xie Zhiqing smiled, carefully bending down to pat the little wolf’s head and said softly, “Lingyue, you need to get along well with Wu’erma in the future! Just like Daddy and Ateus, be each other’s strongest support, okay?”
Wu’erma looked at him with its golden eyes, seemingly understanding but not quite.
Fortunately, Xie Lingyue understood. She poked Xie Zhiqing’s cheek with her little hand and babbled some indistinct sounds.
Xie Lingyue’s vocabulary had been growing—though not exactly words, but sounds that resembled words.
Still, it made Xie Zhiqing happy for a long time.
He patiently asked, “What is little Lingyue saying?”
Xie Lingyue responded, “Wuwu!”
After a few days of “adjustment” and considering the baby’s actions and expressions, Xie Zhiqing understood, “Oh! The baby wants to go out and play?”
Xie Lingyue nodded vigorously.
However…
Xie Zhiqing was a bit troubled.
Recently, Lang Sa had told him very seriously not to go too far, saying that Xie Lingyue had just completed her transformation and was in an adjustment phase, needing rest. But looking at the baby now, she didn’t seem like she needed rest.
Xie Zhiqing felt something was off.
A few days ago, when Lang Sa wasn’t too busy, he had time to take them out together. But today, with both Lang Sa and Ateus absent…
Xie Zhiqing hesitated and said, “Then let’s just walk around nearby, okay?”
Xie Lingyue nodded again.
Preoccupied with this matter, Xie Zhiqing was always distracted even when out for a walk.
After only walking a short distance, he wanted to go back, but seeing how happy Xie Lingyue was, he had no choice but to walk a bit further.
Xie Lingyue was growing quickly; at four months old, she was already large enough to obstruct Xie Zhiqing’s view when held. She kept swaying, so Xie Zhiqing had to stretch his neck to see the path.
Even so, Xie Lingyue wasn’t calm; she reached out with her chubby little hand and grabbed Xie Zhiqing’s ear.
“…” Xie Zhiqing winced and said, “Lingyue, let go.”
Xie Lingyue muttered incomprehensibly, “Wuwu.”
“Wuwu?” Xie Zhiqing said, “That’s not necessary, it doesn’t hurt.”
Xie Lingyue repeated, “Wuwu.”
“Wuwu?” Xie Zhiqing tilted his head, then suddenly realized, “Are you talking about Fufu? Fufu isn’t here; Fufu went out with Ateus. Oh, could they have come here too?”
As he spoke, Xie Zhiqing changed his position to avoid the baby blocking his view.
Then he saw—just a few meters away in the grass— a… boy with cat ears.
Xie Zhiqing held his breath.
The boy was young but had a very vigilant expression. He was crouched in the grass, his back arched high, ready to spring into action.
His ears were short and round, with noticeable black spots on the fur.
Rather than cat ears, they looked more like… tiger ears.
Xie Zhiqing suddenly felt anxious.
There were indeed other tribes on the prairie, but wolves were fierce beasts and usually didn’t coexist with other fierce beasts.
Moreover, this person… looked too much like a tiger…
The fear of tigers caused Xie Zhiqing to fall into extreme worry and panic. He swallowed hard, hugged Xie Lingyue tightly, and looked down at Wu’erma, who had been quietly following behind. He whispered, “Baby, let’s… let’s go home… let’s go home first.”
