- After The Soft And Cute Beauty Marries The Wolf King
- Chapter 73 - Extra Story 2
This was a vast, boundless grassland.
In the evening, the Wolf King was majestically patrolling every corner, ensuring that all the wolves on the grassland had safely returned home.
As usual, the grassland was peaceful and quiet, with all the little wolf cubs returning home on time; not a single one was left outside.
The Wolf King nodded in satisfaction, inwardly praising himself.
This King truly knows how to rule over wolves with might and grandeur!
However, this evening, something happened that was different from the norm.
On his way home, the Wolf King heard a few very faint whimpers by the roadside.
Looking around, he saw a dirty little rabbit in the grass by the road.
Suspicious, he walked over to take a closer look—
How could there be a rabbit on this grassland full of wolves? Wasn’t it afraid of being eaten?
The Wolf King squatted down, pushed aside the grass, and grabbed the little rabbit by its ears, intending to pull it out.
But as soon as he touched its ear, the Wolf King noticed that the rabbit’s right ear was bent forward at a very twisted angle.
Rabbit ears don’t have bones and can’t break, so it must have been seriously injured.
The Wolf King’s movements became much gentler. He carefully picked up the rabbit and then noticed its injuries.
The rabbit’s right ear had a large gash.
Not only that, but the little rabbit was covered in countless wounds, big and small. Who knows how far it had fled to get here—its body was riddled with injuries, and its fur, soaked in mud, had become matted, making it nearly impossible to discern its original color.
Frowning, the Wolf King gently placed the rabbit on his back and carried it home.
Although the little rabbit was seriously injured, the Wolf King had the best wound medicine on the grassland, and healing a rabbit was a simple task.
The Wolf King carefully selected some of the best herbs that could be used on the rabbit and gently applied them to its wounds.
This rabbit seemed to come from a distinguished background, raised with utmost care—it couldn’t tolerate even the slightest pain, flinching at the smallest wound.
The Wolf King thought to himself, luckily it was unconscious; if it were awake, who knows how much noise it would have made.
After roughly treating the rabbit’s wounds, the Wolf King didn’t touch the wound on its ear for now—he had heard that a rabbit’s ears have many nerves and are highly sensitive, and because of this, injuries there can often heal on their own.
The Wolf King pondered for a moment and decided to let the rabbit wake up and decide for itself. If it didn’t want to endure pain, it could wait for its ear to heal on its own; if it wanted a quicker recovery, he could help later.
After applying some simple medicine to the rabbit, the Wolf King went out for a midnight snack. When he returned to his room, he immediately sensed that the rabbit had woken up.
Clearly, the rabbit had also sensed him, and it was now huddled in the corner, trembling with fear.
It was so frightened that its short, fluffy fur rustled against the pillow, making a soft rustling sound.
The Wolf King found it amusing and deliberately walked over, extending a paw and saying coldly, “Why are you shaking?”
The little rabbit, shivering with fear, couldn’t help but look up at him in panic when it heard his voice. Its big, red eyes looked at him pitifully, and with the little wounds beneath them, it looked as pitiful as could be.
The Wolf King’s heart softened, and he stopped teasing it. Instead, he pulled out a few blades of grass and handed them to the rabbit, saying, “I picked some grass. See if you can eat it. If not, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow when I can go farther to find more. The soil here on the grassland isn’t great, so this is all there is.”
The little rabbit blinked and cautiously scooted over to him.
Its wounds still hurt, and every movement made it wince.
Its four little paws were also injured, with the front ones especially badly hurt. It looked down at them, and its eyes drooped in sadness.
The Wolf King, feeling pity, lay down in front of the rabbit and clumsily held the blades of grass out to its mouth with his paw.
The little rabbit politely thanked him and quickly chewed the grass with its little three-part mouth.
The Wolf King scooted over a bit, making room for the rabbit, so it wouldn’t have to huddle in the corner.
“What’s your name?” he asked. “How did you end up on the grassland? Aren’t you afraid? It’s full of wolves here.”
The little rabbit blinked its round eyes, its injured ear drooping limply over its face, and replied in a soft voice, “My name is Xie Zhiqing. I got separated from my family while running away and was chased all the way here by someone… I was injured and couldn’t find my way home, so I wandered in here and passed out.”
Perhaps realizing that the wolf in front of him wasn’t as fierce as he’d imagined, Xie Zhiqing soon relaxed, stopped trembling, and wasn’t as nervous. He shifted his body to hide behind the Wolf King’s thick fur and then asked, “Mr. Wolf, what’s your name?”
The Wolf King said, “My name is Lang Sa.”
He extended a finger, intending to write his name on Xie Zhiqing’s little paw. But upon closer inspection, he couldn’t find a single uninjured patch of skin to write on.
Lang Sa sighed and said, “Your injuries are quite severe, but don’t worry—they’re just superficial wounds. I have plenty of medicine here; feel free to use it.”
Xie Zhiqing smiled foolishly, and with his face covered in wounds, he looked both pitiful and funny.
“Thank you, Mr. Wolf,” Xie Zhiqing said. “You’re such a good wolf, hehe!”
The little rabbit, now full and with its wounds properly treated, wasn’t as afraid of the wolf in front of it and started to feel happy.
It climbed up from the pillow, seemingly trying to do something.
But as soon as it stood up, it yelped in pain and held its head.
“My ear!” Xie Zhiqing cried out softly. “My ear really hurts!”
Its arms were too short, and it couldn’t even reach the injured ear on its head.
Lang Sa clicked his tongue and said, “Your ear is badly injured, but I heard that rabbits’ ears can heal themselves over time, so just take it easy.”
Xie Zhiqing, in pain, lay back down on the bed, his eyes even redder now. “Does that mean it’ll take a long time? I want to go home soon… My brother must be very worried about me.”
Lang Sa said, “If you want to heal quickly, it’s possible, but it’ll be very painful. Can you handle it?”
Xie Zhiqing nodded vigorously. “Xiao Qing’er isn’t afraid of pain!”
“Alright, then. I’ll help you heal starting tomorrow,” Lang Sa said coolly. “You have one more night to think it over.”
Xie Zhiqing asked in confusion, “Is it that serious?”
Lang Sa said, “I want to help you heal the wound on your ear. But it seems the nerves in your ear might have been severed, and they’ll need to be reconnected. This process could take about a month and will be very painful—you have time to consider it carefully.”
Xie Zhiqing immediately said, “I’ve already made up my mind! No need to—”
Lang Sa gave him a cool glance, and the little rabbit immediately fell silent.
Xie Zhiqing had a simple thought: he just wanted to heal his wounds quickly and go home to find his brother. He didn’t want to return with a drooping ear, worrying his family for no reason.
He really didn’t understand why this Mr. Wolf insisted on making him think it over for another night—whether it was one night or ten, he still wanted to heal his ear!
But… Xie Zhiqing sneaked a glance at the wolf next to him with his uninjured eye.
Although Mr. Wolf had a stern face and didn’t smile much, he had brought him home and kindly treated his wounds—he really was a good wolf! He must invite him to his home to play sometime!
The little rabbit’s expressions shifted from happy to sad.
Lang Sa watched him, amused.
Maybe it was because he had spent so much time among wolves, but suddenly having a little rabbit around, and a rather delicate-looking one at that, was quite novel.
The Wolf King thought, tomorrow, I’ll boil some hot water and give the little rabbit a good wash—maybe he’ll look even cuter.
The Wolf King’s medicine was indeed miraculous. By the next morning, the hideous, gaping wounds on Xie Zhiqing’s body had all scabbed over.
However, his blood-soaked fur hadn’t returned to its original state.
Xie Zhiqing tugged at his short, matted fur, feeling quite unhappy.
Before, he could use his injuries as an excuse, but now that the wounds had scabbed over, his fur was still messy and tangled.
Now he was just a dirty little rabbit!
Xie Zhiqing lay dejectedly on the ground.
Late in the afternoon, the Wolf King finally returned.
He was dragging a wooden bucket, neither too big nor too small.
Xie Zhiqing immediately jumped up from the ground, running to his side on his short little legs, and happily called out, “Mr. Wolf!”
Lang Sa shook his head, his furry ears twitching as he proudly said, “Thank the king.”
Xie Zhiqing squinted his eyes and nuzzled against him, cheering, “Thank you, Mr. Wolf!”
The hot water in the bucket was at a perfect temperature, just right for the little rabbit who was afraid of the cold. Xie Zhiqing felt extremely comfortable and even started swimming in it after cleaning his fur.
However, his ears couldn’t move or be touched, so they hung limply over his head.
Xie Zhiqing used his little paws to touch the tips of his ears and sighed dejectedly.
Later, Lang Sa picked him up out of the bucket and used a large towel to dry his body.
“What exactly did you get yourself into?” Lang Sa asked as he dried Xie Zhiqing’s fur, “How did you end up so injured?”
Xie Zhiqing scratched his head and said, “I don’t know… When I was fleeing, I got separated from my brother. I accidentally fell off a cliff and passed out. When I woke up, I had been captured by someone. It took a lot of effort to escape, and I got hurt in the process…”
He carefully touched the tips of his drooping ears and said, “My ears were injured when I fell off the cliff. I was in such a hurry to escape that I didn’t feel much at the time. It was only later that I realized my ears couldn’t stand up anymore…”
Lang Sa comforted him, “Although it’s serious, this king is a miracle healer. I’ll definitely cure you.”
Xie Zhiqing brightened up again, “Thank you, Mr. Wolf!”
Lang Sa snorted.
The process of treating the ears was far more painful than Lang Sa had described.
The ears were full of nerves, dense and sensitive. Lang Sa made an incision at the base of the ear and began reconnecting the severed nerves one by one.
Xie Zhiqing lay on the bed, biting a pillow and trembling in pain.
Several times, Lang Sa couldn’t bear to continue and suggested taking a break, but Xie Zhiqing refused—his ears couldn’t move, and he didn’t dare shake his head, so he could only wave his little paw at Lang Sa.
“It’s okay, Mr. Wolf…” Xie Zhiqing weakly said, “Keep going.”
His freshly cleaned fur was soaked in sweat again, clinging to his little bunny face in strands.
Lang Sa sighed, gently touched Xie Zhiqing’s face with the tip of his paw, and continued working to reconnect the broken nerves.
By the time the treatment ended that night, Xie Zhiqing was completely exhausted.
He lay limp on the bed, his fluffy little bunny face covered in sweat.
“Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Wolf…”
Lang Sa was washing his paws, and when he heard this, he paused.
He turned his head to look at the little bunny lying on the bed.
The bunny’s ears were drooping, his eyes were drooping, and his little furry face was wet—whether from sweat or tears, it was hard to tell.
He looked rather pitiful.
Lang Sa dried his hands and returned to the bedside. He smoothed the fur on Xie Zhiqing’s face and said softly, “I didn’t work hard at all; you’re the one who’s had a tough time.”
The sweat on Xie Zhiqing’s face trickled into his eyes, making him squint. He whimpered, wiped his eyes with his hand, and smiled at Lang Sa, “Mr. Wolf, we’re not related by blood, yet you took me home, gave me a place to stay, food to eat, and even helped me heal. I’m really so grateful to you.”
As he spoke, his voice trembled constantly, and his three-lobed mouth quivered. His little front paws unconsciously clenched into fists—it was clear he had to use all his strength to hold back from crying out in pain, but he still remembered to thank Lang Sa first.
Lang Sa felt warmth in his heart. He fetched a towel to wipe Xie Zhiqing’s body dry again, then found a small blanket to cover him.
Xie Zhiqing could only lie on his stomach, his round little tail pushing up the blanket into a high arch.
Lang Sa: “?”
He reached out to touch it.
Xie Zhiqing looked at him in confusion.
Lang Sa: “…”
He cleared his throat and said, “Time to sleep.”
In the middle of the night, Lang Sa was woken up by a warm, fuzzy presence pressing against him.
The little bunny was apparently truly afraid of the cold; one small blanket wasn’t enough, and he had squeezed under Lang Sa’s fur to stay warm.
Lang Sa reached out to pull the blanket higher over him, carefully adjusting his injured ears before closing his eyes again, intending to go back to sleep.
But sleep eluded him.
Lang Sa reached out and gently patted Xie Zhiqing’s head—the little bunny’s fur was much softer and finer than a wolf’s, feeling wonderful to the touch.
As he petted, his hand slid down to the bunny’s little rear—he started poking Xie Zhiqing’s tail.
In his sleep, the little bunny felt the disturbance, and his short tail twitched.
Lang Sa found this amusing and continued playing with the tail for a while before finally drifting back to sleep.
Xie Zhiqing’s ears took about a month to heal.
During that time, the severed nerves fully reconnected, and the pain subsided, but his ears still wouldn’t stand up.
Xie Zhiqing was heartbroken, constantly pacing around Lang Sa on his short legs, anxiously asking, “Mr. Wolf, what if my ears never stand up again? Will I become a lop-eared rabbit?”
Lang Sa pondered for a few days before tying a small stick to the base of Xie Zhiqing’s ears to prop them up.
Xie Zhiqing: “…Will this really work? And this stick is so hard; it’s poking my head, making it hurt…”
Whether this clumsy method would work or not, eventually, Xie Zhiqing’s ears did stand up again.
With the last of his injuries healed, Lang Sa no longer had any reason to keep Xie Zhiqing on the grasslands.
A few days later, Xie Zhiqing said his goodbyes.
“Mr. Wolf, thank you for taking care of me during this time.” The little bunny obediently bowed to him, “Come visit me at my house sometime! I’ll make sure to treat you well!”
Then he thought about it—Mr. Wolf was the Wolf King, so how could he have time to go around visiting?
Xie Zhiqing patted his own head and added, “Mr. Wolf, if you’re really too busy, then I’ll come back to visit you sometime!”
Lang Sa flicked his forehead and said, “Alright, remember to come back and see me.”
Then, he sent Xie Zhiqing on his way.
Spring turned to autumn, and three months passed in the blink of an eye.
Every day, when Lang Sa came home, he would pause at the door, listening carefully to see if there were any sounds inside, if anyone had returned.
But…
That ungrateful little rabbit, Xie Zhiqing, hadn’t been seen since he left.
Lang Sa waited for a long time without any sign of him coming back, and the thought of it nagged at him. So, he packed up his belongings and set off on a journey to find the rabbit, following the route that Xie Zhiqing had described.
Although Xie Zhiqing might seem a bit foolish, at least his directions were clear enough, and Lang Sa easily found the rabbit kingdom.
Lang Sa was overwhelmed by the sight—there were so many rabbits that it seemed like he would be drowned in them.
But even though all the little rabbits looked the same, the Wolf King immediately spotted the one he was looking for.
Coincidentally, that rabbit also saw him first.
“Mr. Wolf!” Xie Zhiqing jumped high, “Mr. Wolf! Mr. Wolf!”
Lang Sa pretended to keep a stern face and said, “I hear you, keep it down.”
Xie Zhiqing’s short legs moved rapidly. He rushed to Lang Sa and looked up at him, “Mr. Wolf, you came to see me!”
Lang Sa, half amused and half exasperated, said, “You said you would come back to visit me, but you didn’t keep your word!”
Xie Zhiqing drooped his ears in shame, “Ah… I forgot.”
Lang Sa: “…”
The Wolf King was speechless.
He lowered his head and gently nudged Xie Zhiqing with his forehead, “Come on, treat me to a meal! Entertain me properly!”
Xie Zhiqing brightened up again.
He hopped onto Lang Sa’s back, and with a commanding gesture of his little bunny paw, he said, “Mr. Wolf, let’s set off!”
Lang Sa wagged his tail and called out, “Let’s go, onward!”
