Small animals are always the most vigilant. Due to their inherent weakness, their instincts make them easily hunted and devoured.
A locked door is the best proof of this.
But the omega sleeping soundly inside seemed to have forgotten who the true master of the place was. The visitor easily pushed open the heavy, carved wooden door.
Even though the pheromones, inherently aggressive, were suppressed to the utmost, they still carried an oppressive aura. Yet strangely, the boy on the bed, as if sensing a calming presence, slept even more soundly.
He even carelessly turned over and curled deeper into the covers, muttering a few words in his sleep.
Because he was sleeping, the collar used to protect the omega’s gland and suppress his pheromones had been removed and placed on the bedside table.
Under the soft glow of the light, the smooth and delicate nape of the boy’s neck could be seen clearly, half-exposed from the covers.
The sweet scent of berry jam in the room was almost as thick as honey.
The visitor quietly closed the door halfway, sighed softly, walked over to the bed, and lifted the blanket covering the boy, accurately finding his target. They grasped the omega’s slender wrist and removed the latest model of the smart device.
After a brief operation, they changed the language system from the Federation’s to the Empire’s common tongue, then moved the estate’s control system to a more visible spot and set it to adolescent mode.
Finally, they placed it back on the bedside table, right next to the omega’s collar. Leaving behind clear evidence of their visit without any attempt to conceal it.
Once everything was done, they left the room.
Though the visitor stayed only a moment, their pheromones were enough to lull the omega on the bed into a deep, dreamless sleep.
When Wu Jing woke up the next day, it was already very late, and he almost missed lunch. He hurriedly grabbed his smart device, checked the time, then rushed to wash up and get dressed.
He wanted to make it to the dining room before lunch was over—he didn’t want to be hungry again.
As Wu Jing picked up the pheromone suppression collar and put it around his neck, he noticed something odd. He took it off again and sniffed it.
Strange, why did it smell like an Alpha? Could he have accidentally picked up the scent on the way here? No, that didn’t make sense. The people who had come to escort him were all betas, and the entire trip had been a private journey.
Wait, how did his smart device end up on the table?
Wu Jing finally became alert, his ears twitching with unease. The bunny ears of his spiritual manifestation became more prominent as his nervousness increased.
Under surveillance, the door to the room at the end of the third-floor hallway quietly opened. The boy poked his head out, ears standing straight up in alarm, cautiously looking around with a hint of fear in his eyes.
After confirming several times that there was no one else around and no immediate danger, his bunny ears slowly drooped to either side of his hair, soft and relaxed.
Standing by the door, only half his figure visible, he lowered his head, still sniffing the Alpha’s scent lingering on the smart device and collar.
Compared to most aggressive Alpha pheromones, the scent Wu Jing was picking up carried no sense of oppression. It was faint now, a peculiar and rich light fragrance, mixed with a subtle medicinal smell. It was hard to identify, as if several dozen different scents were blended together, floating quietly through the room, gently intoxicating.
The longer he smelled it, the more drowsy he felt. Wu Jing shook his head, causing his bunny ears to flop around and hit his soft black hair.
He went back inside and rummaged through his spatial hub for something, pulling out a bottle of pheromone-cleansing spray. He sprayed it on both the collar and the smart device several times, only putting them back on after confirming the scent was gone.
As he unlocked the smart device and entered the interface, Wu Jing suddenly froze, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at the completely different home screen.
He swallowed nervously and tentatively clicked on the only icon left on the main page. Instantly, a 3D map of the estate materialized in front of him.
Next to it was a list of services—housekeeping, meal delivery, cleaning, transportation, and more. Wu Jing, having never seen anything like this, stared at it in a daze for a while before selecting the meal delivery option. The list displayed a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, including Chinese, Italian, and English dishes, with a handy search bar included.
Wu Jing spent a long time studying the options and deduced that the council elder probably had a preference for more traditional Earth food, as most of the meals were Chinese.
Wait, the council elder?
Could it be that last night…
The bunny ears that had been drooping next to his hair shot up again in the surveillance footage. After a moment of dazed shock, Wu Jing turned and ran back into his room, slamming the door behind him.
He first checked to make sure the door had been locked last night, then inspected it again, confirming that the door wasn’t broken. It simply hadn’t posed any obstacle to the visitor.
Wu Jing’s anxiety surged, leaving him feeling helpless. He resembled a small animal placed on a predator’s territory.
After finally finding a small hiding place in this unfamiliar environment, he was abruptly reminded that anyone could enter whenever they pleased.
The safety and privacy he longed for were completely nonexistent. No matter how he tried to hide, he would always be found.
Wu Jing shivered against the door, too scared to go out again. He hadn’t figured out how to interact with this person yet. Last night, he had rehearsed many different introductions before going to sleep, but now all the courage he had built up had been scared away.
Especially in this archaic, feudal marriage arrangement, he and his nominal Alpha husband were complete strangers, having never even met.
He didn’t even know what the council elder looked like.
Nervously, Wu Jing started picking at his fingers, but eventually, hunger won out. He opened his smart device, and seeing the simplified interface, he thought that maybe the visitor didn’t mean any harm.
After all, they had kindly changed the language system and made the operation mode so much easier to use.
And… this was someone else’s home. He was the newly arrived omega, and it was rude of him to fall asleep without even meeting the estate’s master.
But entering his room without permission and using his smart device wasn’t right either.
Wu Jing spent a long time weighing the situation in his mind, unable to come to a conclusion. In the end, he ordered some food and waited obediently in his room.
About half an hour later, there was a knock on the door.
Wu Jing opened it a crack and, seeing it was the butler from the previous day, fully opened the door. “Good, good afternoon.”
The butler bowed. “Good afternoon, young sir. Here’s your lunch.” Then, politely, he added, “Allow me to bring it in for you.”
Wu Jing stepped aside, feeling awkward. “Thank you.”
The butler set the food down and said, “Sir has been busy lately and comes home very late. He asked me to tell you that he hopes you will go out and explore more.”
Wu Jing, feeling as though he had just been given a task, stumbled over his words. “O-okay.”
The butler, posture impeccable, added, “You are the master here as well, young sir. For instance, you can dine downstairs if you wish.”
Wu Jing hesitated, unsure if he could agree.
The butler moved the serving cart away and wished him a pleasant day.
Wu Jing replied with a quiet “Thank you.”
Lunch was delicious. The meat was fresh, and the vegetables were newly picked. His spiritual manifestation was a rabbit, and though he didn’t like most vegetables except for carrots, Wu Jing could tell that he hadn’t been mistreated.
That night, after dinner, Wu Jing deliberately went to the living room to wait. He played with his smart device, watched some study videos, and then switched to the latest story updates from his favorite game.
Before long, he dozed off on the sofa.
But on the third morning, Wu Jing woke up in his own bed. His smart device and collar, which he had worn to bed, had been removed and placed on the bedside table for his comfort.
Not only that, but his body was again scented with the faint trace of Alpha pheromones, as if the contact had been brief.
Did he carry me back? Wu Jing sat on the bed, absentmindedly playing with the bunny ears that had appeared due to the Alpha’s pheromones. He remained in that posture for a while before rubbing his real, flushed ears and getting up to wash.
Day after day, his interactions with the other person remained limited to this routine. Every night, Wu Jing would obediently sit in his sleepwear, waiting, only to fall asleep as the night grew late.
By the next morning, he would find himself back in bed, having never seen his mysterious Alpha husband.
Even though he wandered through the estate during the day, he never ran into him. It seemed the Federation’s ongoing post-war matters with the Empire were indeed keeping the man busy.
Slowly, the omega in the house began to relax. The soft and sweet scent of berry jam spread throughout, lingering on the chairs in the dining room, by the shallow swimming pool on the lower floor, in the kitchen near all the places where food was placed, and even along every corridor and corner he passed by.
The small white rosebuds planted in the flower garden gradually bloomed over time. Under the sunlight, the clear droplets of water hanging on them sparkled with tiny fragments of light, looking more and more beautiful in the summer.
Because of the hot weather, Wu Jing liked to dip his feet in the cool water. He wasn’t yet brave enough to swim in a stranger’s pool, so he just dangled his legs and kicked at the water.
When it was time for dinner, he would run upstairs barefoot, leaving a trail of footprints behind. By that time, aside from him, only the robotic housekeeper was still around. Everyone else had left after lunch.
In short, after these few days, Wu Jing had figured out the pattern of the other person’s appearances, and during this period, the house had become his domain.
He did whatever he wanted.
After all, the cleaning robots would take care of everything.
It was clear that, as the omega dashed upstairs, he hadn’t anticipated that there would be another figure seated at the dining table!
