The door opened, and standing at the entrance was a young boy, his face half-hidden behind the pile of stuffed toys and pillows he was carrying, one in each hand. The omega’s sweet scent, like berry jam, mixed with the floral fragrance of his freshly showered body, with a faint warmth from the hot water still lingering.
Dressed in short sleeves and shorts, parts of his soft skin had been lightly reddened by the hot water. He stood at his Alpha’s bedroom door, white and clean, his rabbit ears twitching nervously, on the verge of standing straight up.
Shyly, he greeted again, “Mr. Ning?”
Wu Jing asked.
Ning Qinghong had already changed into a robe, his long, ink-black hair hanging halfway down, still half-, as if he had only partially dried it before coming to open the door. He tilted his head slightly and spoke in a calm and gentle tone, “Come in.”
Wu Jing, hearing the relaxed tone in his voice, let out a small breath of relief and whispered, “Thank you.”
After Wu Jing entered, Ning Qinghong casually closed the door behind him.
Hearing the door close, Wu Jing’s breath froze, his body stiffening instantly. His rabbit ears, which had relaxed just a moment ago, sprang back up in alarm.
Suddenly, he became aware of the scent in the room. This was the Alpha’s bedroom, and the concentration of his pheromones was several times stronger than usual. Wu Jing found himself standing in the Alpha’s private space, feeling completely overwhelmed by the scent enveloping him, wrapping around him little by little.
If he spent even one night here, by the next day, his clothes and body would be soaked in Ning Qinghong’s scent.
Anyone who saw him would know instantly that this omega had been marked by his Alpha.
Wu Jing felt dizzy, his sweet berry-jam scent seemed to be fermenting in the warmth of the room. He stood there awkwardly, unsure of where to place himself, glancing nervously at Ning Qinghong, who had gone back to the drying machine. Wu Jing thought he heard Ning Qinghong say softly, “Make yourself comfortable.”
After confirming he hadn’t imagined it, Wu Jing cautiously took his first step, hesitantly looking around the room.
Then, step by step, he made his way to the bed.
Ning Qinghong, looking at the reflection of the slender omega in the smooth surface of the machine, saw Wu Jing awkwardly building a little nest on the other side of the bed. The young boy placed his berry-scented pillow on the other side and then stuffed his bunny plushie in the middle of the bed.
Not entirely foolish, he had brought a boundary marker with him.
After that, he didn’t know what to do. He sat on the edge of the bed, pretending to be busy with his lightbrain, but in truth, his mind was elsewhere, his rabbit ears still alert and standing upright.
A minute later, the soft hum of the drying machine stopped, and Wu Jing’s tension rose instantly. He started swiping through his lightbrain faster, all the while sneaking glances at Ning Qinghong.
Ning Qinghong removed the lightbrain device from his ear, then took off the vintage wristwatch from his wrist, an antique from Gulan Star, and placed it on the bedside table. With his strong control over his pheromones, he didn’t need to wear an Alpha’s pheromone-suppressing patch. Even now, with a little omega sitting on his bed, his expression remained calm, his movements unhurried. He even had the composure to ask in a gentle tone, “Aren’t you going to take off your suppressor collar?”
Ning Qinghong continued softly, “It must be uncomfortable to sleep with it on.”
Wu Jing, who had unknowingly been staring at him, snapped back to his senses, his panicked gaze darting around, unsure of where to focus. Instinctively, he raised his slender fingers and clutched the smooth collar on his white neck, curling his hand nervously around it.
It was as if this decorative, ineffective item was his protective shell.
Even his Adam’s apple was small and delicate.
Ning Qinghong seemed to smile slightly. “Don’t worry, I took a suppressant shot not long ago.”
Wu Jing hesitated for a long time, barely able to breathe, his eyelids trembling as though on the verge of tears. Finally, after what seemed like forever, his trembling hands reached up to remove the suppressor collar from his neck.
There was a soft “click,” and then the sweet scent of berry jam spread through the room, filling the air. Wu Jing’s entire body flushed with embarrassment, feeling hot, his breath shaking uncontrollably.
For an omega to remove their suppressor collar in front of an Alpha was no different from undressing for courtship—akin to running around naked.
How… how could this happen?
Wu Jing’s breathing grew heated as he trembled under Ning Qinghong’s unwavering gaze. He shakily placed the collar on his side of the bed, murmuring, “A-All done.”
Only then did Ning Qinghong finally avert his gaze, smiling faintly as he remarked, “Smells good.”
The young boy was so obedient that even his transparent rabbit spirit animal ears curled up in shyness. In a soft voice, he asked, “Mr. Ning, c-can we go to sleep now?”
In his heart, he quietly cursed Ning Qinghong.
This is too much!!!
…Does it really smell that good?
Ning Qinghong simply replied, “As you wish.”
Wu Jing quickly took off his lightbrain and nestled into the blankets, turning away and curling up. He sensed that the person behind him seemed to have also settled down, and the mattress beside him slightly sank.
He inhaled the potent scent of Alpha pheromones that was much stronger than usual, making his head spin even more.
He felt somewhat sleepy, but it wasn’t genuine tiredness.
It was more like a hazy confusion, where he couldn’t even think straight.
In the next moment, the room lights clicked off with a “thud,” plunging him into darkness. Feeling disoriented, his spirit seemed to liquefy into a sticky puddle. He sensed something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
A soft voice called from above, “Do you need to chat for a bit to ease your tension?” It seemed like Ning Qinghong hadn’t fully laid down but was leaning against the headboard.
Wu Jing instinctively nodded, “Okay, sure.”
Ning Qinghong chuckled, “How do you find living here these past few days?”
Wu Jing thought for a moment, “It’s pretty good. The food is delicious, the house is big, there are lots of fun things, the bed is soft, and the housekeeper treats me with respect.” He paused, “…Mr. Ning is very nice and gentle with me.”
Ning Qinghong asked, “What were you just thinking about?”
Wu Jing’s consciousness was gradually fading, and he replied in a daze, “I felt like you deliberately made me take off my collar… That was so unfair.” His tone was slightly aggrieved.
Ning Qinghong laughed softly, “Have you gone into heat before?”
Wu Jing replied vaguely, “Yeah… I have.”
Ning Qinghong prompted gently, “How many times?”
Wu Jing counted in his head, “Wait, let me think. Since I turned eighteen… it seems like three times.”
Ning Qinghong raised an eyebrow, “Once a month?”
Wu Jing nodded, recalling what the doctor had said—that it would be much better once he found an Alpha.
Ning Qinghong chuckled, “So you still went to see the doctor?”
Wu Jing mumbled, “I was scared, so I went.”
Ning Qinghong countered, “Scared? How did you handle your heats before?”
Wu Jing’s breath caught in his throat, and he mumbled, “…I used suppressants, I injected them myself.”
Ning Qinghong sighed appreciatively, “That’s impressive.”
Wu Jing’s eyes brightened, clearly pleased by the compliment.
Ning Qinghong’s voice softened, “Get some sleep, and sweet dreams.”
The omega beside him almost instantly fell asleep, letting out soft, steady breaths.
Soon, the sleeping boy began to fumble around for his bunny plushie, revealing a messy sleeping posture.
Unfortunately, the plushie had been kicked to the end of the bed.
Ning Qinghong was a light sleeper. When a soft, warm body pressed against him, he quickly opened his eyes.
The boy was hugging him like an octopus, unconsciously inhaling the scent of his pheromones, slowly getting used to the Alpha he was holding.
Ning Qinghong believed that in just a few nights, without needing to mark him, Wu Jing’s body would naturally adapt.
Wu Jing slept soundly, and when he first woke up, he was bewildered, staring at the plushie that had somehow ended up in his arms.
The person beside him was gone, leaving only a faint warmth behind.
He suddenly remembered something and shot up, his rabbit ears popping up as he instinctively covered his face with his hands.
How could he have said those things last night?!
Wu Jing couldn’t believe it.
Just then, the bathroom door swung open, and upon hearing the sound, he immediately lifted his head to look. The moment he saw Ning Qinghong, his face turned bright red, his rabbit ears standing straight up. He stammered, “L-l-last night—”
Ning Qinghong had changed out of his robe and wore a simple white dress shirt, with intricate embroidery at the collar, paired with fitted black trousers and a coat from the Federal Council.
He had originally been heading for the door but slowed down after hearing Wu Jing’s voice. He walked over to the bed, slightly leaned down, and picked up the plushie that Wu Jing had accidentally dropped on the floor, placing it back in the omega’s arms. He stood up and spoke gently, “Sorry, I haven’t clarified things with you until now.”
Wu Jing stared at his actions in a daze, feeling overly close. He couldn’t help but swallow hard, instinctively asking, “W-what?”
“My pheromones have a strange calming scent from Gulan Star,” Ning Qinghong smiled. “Researchers have simulated it, and it has some hypnotic effects.”
“It was my oversight.”
