Whose pheromones are like a sedative?
Wu Jing’s eyes widened, wanting to say something but hesitating, forcing himself to hold back.
Ning Qinghong asked softly, “Why aren’t you speaking?” He leaned in slightly, getting closer. “Do you need me to apologize again?”
“I’m sorry, I’m not mad anymore, okay?”
His tone was gentle, coaxing the omega with a light laugh.
Wu Jing’s rabbit ears drooped in confusion, and the next second, he suddenly covered his face with his hands, then frantically pulled them away, his face turning bright red as he mumbled, “It’s fine, it’s fine.”
Ning Qinghong stood up. “Would you like to join me for dinner?”
Wu Jing scrambled to get up from the Alpha’s bed. “Wait a moment!”
He dashed into the bathroom.
Moments later, he stumbled out of the bathroom, filled with the Alpha’s rich pheromones, walking carefully. “My toiletries are still in my room; I haven’t taken them out yet…”
After saying that, he bolted out.
Ning Qinghong glanced at the pillow and plush toy left behind by the omega, shaking his head with a smile.
Wu Jing could hardly count how many times he slammed the door behind him, instinctively turning his back to the door to cover his flushed face.
This was so embarrassing—
Why were his ears always like this?!
Taking a deep breath, Wu Jing flipped through his clothes and changed into a simple white T-shirt and shorts. As he walked into the bathroom to wash up, he suddenly remembered that his pheromone collar and smart device were left behind.
He wished he could just disappear into a crack in the floor.
So embarrassing, so embarrassing—
What had he even said last night?
How could he discuss the details of his heat so normally, especially when the other person asked him how he handled it?
Wu Jing wasn’t completely clueless; the omega academy offered several physiology classes each year.
If he hadn’t injected himself with suppressants, he couldn’t even imagine what he would have said.
He couldn’t let this happen again tonight!
Wu Jing was secretly on alert.
When he finally exited his room, he first hurried to the master bedroom, cautiously peeking inside to confirm that the Alpha had gone downstairs before daring to enter and look for his collar and smart device. After searching around, he realized they were nowhere to be found.
He already knew whose hands they were in.
Feeling dejected, the omega made his way downstairs and positioned himself by the dining table. He carefully put on the collar he found next to him and quickly grabbed his smart device, murmuring, “Thank you, Mr. Ning.”
“No need to thank me,” Ning Qinghong paused, “I’ll have the butler bring all your things over today.”
Wu Jing wanted to say something and tentatively probed, “…Isn’t that too much trouble?”
His reluctance was evident.
Ning Qinghong explained gently, “I want you to stay in my room until our divorce is finalized.” He smiled, “You can still return to your original room during the day if you want.”
The boy, who had initially planned to refuse, opened his mouth but fell silent instead.
Ning Qinghong softly reiterated, “I’ll have the butler move everything I prepared for you over.”
Wu Jing could only quietly agree.
Now that he knew he had a chance to return to the Empire, he had completely lost any awareness of being someone else’s omega wife.
After finishing his meal, Wu Jing said goodbye and rushed back to his room for a nap.
This routine continued for several days. As for the guests Ning mentioned, Wu Jing hadn’t seen any of them. Unbeknownst to him, he was now covered in the Alpha’s pheromones, the sweet scent of berry jam mingling with the rich fragrance, almost blending into one.
Yet, the omega himself hadn’t noticed a thing.
Since the first night, Wu Jing had become particularly vigilant, going to bed at the same time every day and absolutely avoiding any late-night chats with the Alpha.
Today, after showering in his room and changing into his pajamas, he skillfully carried his pillow and plush toy from the innermost room on the second floor to the master bedroom. Feeling a bit cheerful, his rabbit ears bounced with each step as he hummed a little tune.
Just as he reached the stairs, the omega’s ears suddenly perked up, standing alert in place.
Did he hear something?
Some kind of rustling sound?
Wu Jing felt a bit confused; his instinct made him cautious. He looked around, curiously glancing at the staircase leading down.
He rarely ventured to the fourth floor, which housed entertainment rooms like the theater, mecha room, and treatment room.
He certainly didn’t have the courage to go there.
But the sound seemed to be coming from below, and since the Alpha’s room was nearby, the familiar environment gave Wu Jing a bit more confidence. He cautiously descended one flight of stairs, crouching at the spiral staircase to look down.
What caught his eye was a white, semi-transparent object.
It was thick, about the width of a wrist, and it seemed like… the tail of something? Curiosity got the better of him, and he descended another flight, slowly passing the turn of the staircase.
As he got closer, the object gradually came into full view.
It was a long, soft shape, thickening from wrist-width to about the size of a calf, with a beautiful, translucent white color that coiled around the stair railing, measuring at least two meters in length.
Finally, when he descended another flight and came face to face with a pair of yellow slit pupils, he realized what it was, and he froze completely— it was a massive white python.
The snake’s head was triangular, and it had been coiled up, resting until it turned its head slowly, attracted by the noise behind it.
Wu Jing’s face turned pale, his lips trembling as he wanted to scream for help but couldn’t utter a word. He didn’t even think about why such a large snake would be in the Alpha’s estate; he was paralyzed with fear.
Instinctively, he felt overwhelming panic in the face of the food chain, his whole body trembling.
Finally, as the snake blinked its eyes, the stunned omega turned and ran back, dropping his pillow and plush toy along the way. His mind was blank as he instinctively dashed toward a familiar place, his rabbit ears pinned tightly against his head, his vision blurring from fear.
The door to the master bedroom was wide open. The boy rushed in like a gust of wind, and upon noticing the only other living person in the room, he lunged forward without hesitation.
“Snake, snake, there’s a snake—”
Wu Jing mumbled to himself, trembling all over, his head and rabbit ears drawn tight as he burrowed into the Alpha’s embrace.
The omega’s soft body clung anxiously, shoulders hunched as he scrambled upward, almost instantly wrapping his arms around Ning Qinghong’s neck and locking his legs around his waist, burying his face deeply.
His eyelids were red and moist, and his voice trembled as he spoke.
“Don’t eat me, don’t eat me…”
“Help, help me—”
Instinctively, he sought the protection of his Alpha.
Ning Qinghong quickly wrapped his arms around the boy, gently patting his back and running a hand over the back of his head, but he couldn’t reach the boy’s rabbit ears, which were pressed tightly against his skull.
Wu Jing shook his head, whimpering, “Don’t eat me, I’m not tasty, there’s a snake, there’s a snake—”
His breathing quickened with fear.
His little omega wife curled into a tight ball in his arms, whimpering in panic.
Ning Qinghong spoke soothingly, “Don’t be afraid, that’s my spirit animal.” He then picked Wu Jing up and walked out to the staircase, where the white python that had materialized from his spirit was now slithering up the stairs.
Hearing the sound, Wu Jing pressed his ears even tighter, sweat trickling down as his eyes filled with panic.
“Look behind you; it’s gone, right?”
At the mention, Wu Jing instinctively turned to look over his shoulder, only to suddenly meet those yellow slit pupils up close.
He had been tricked—
With wide, terrified eyes, tears spilling down his cheeks, the omega watched as the python transformed back into the twinkling points of his spirit, vanishing before him.
Seeing it disappear in front of him, the omega finally relaxed.
Ning Qinghong gently reassured him, “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
Wu Jing let out a whimpering cry.
The sweet scent of berry jam erupted after the scare, unable to be contained by his pheromone collar, and was soon soothed by the Alpha’s own pheromones.
Ning Qinghong said softly, “I didn’t realize your stress response would be so intense.” As he carried the boy back, he explained, “If you had done any research before coming to the Federation, you would have known my spirit animal is a python.”
“Today is the weekend, and I usually let my spirit out to relax in the estate. I’m sorry I scared you.”
As he spoke, he continued to gently pat the boy’s back.
Wu Jing buried his face deeper into the Alpha’s chest, sniffling and letting tears fall onto him, but his tightly curled rabbit ears began to relax with each soothing word.
Comforted by his Alpha, Wu Jing was gently set down on the bed. “Do you need me to get you a glass of warm water?”
Just as Ning Qinghong was about to rise, the omega clutched the hem of his shirt tightly, his wet eyes pleading as they reflected lingering fear. “…Don’t go.”
“Don’t leave.”
His voice was soft and small.
Pitiful yet endearing!
