This cup of warm water was shared between the Alpha and the omega, with Wu Jing clutching the cup, his pale lips trembling as he took small sips, glancing nervously at Ning Qinghong after each sip.
It was strange—despite knowing that the Alpha’s spirit animal was a snake, he felt no fear. After witnessing the Alpha disperse the massive white python, he seemed to distinguish between the person and the spirit. He understood that the Alpha wouldn’t harm him and even had the power to control anything that could hurt him.
A sense of dependency arose uncontrollably within him.
Especially being in a foreign land where everything was unfamiliar, Wu Jing’s timid nature made him hesitant to step outside the estate’s gates after all these days.
Initially, he felt only a sense of estrangement toward the man who had become his husband without even meeting him. But now, in the midst of panic, he felt a tangible comfort from the one person who could truly reassure him.
After finishing the cup of water, he felt slightly calmer and quietly said, “Thank you.”
Ning Qinghong handed him a tissue, softly saying, “Wipe your tears?”
Wu Jing nodded and wiped his eyes, but before he realized it, Ning Qinghong took the tissue from him and tossed it into the trash.
It wasn’t until Ning Qinghong started to move away that Wu Jing realized their hands were still linked. He curled his fingers slightly, feeling dazed as he recalled the moment he had rushed into the Alpha’s arms, seeking comfort.
His breathing suddenly became chaotic and heated.
Wu Jing stared down at their joined hands, his rabbit ears gradually curling tighter, slowly covering his flushed ears with his hands.
Ning Qinghong paused, saying, “Just sleep it off; you’ll be fine.”
Wu Jing quickly climbed into bed, covering himself with the blanket and hurriedly murmuring “goodnight,” falling silent afterward.
He felt as if he had died.
Wu Jing closed his eyes.
He wanted to find a hole to hide in while trying to cool down—wasn’t the air conditioning on? Why was it still so hot?
He quietly pressed his palms against his face under the blanket.
In the middle of the night, the restless omega kicked the plush toy that lay between them to the foot of the bed, then rolled over and found himself snuggled into the Alpha’s embrace.
He slipped deeper into sleep, surrounded by the Alpha’s unique pheromones.
Usually, the Alpha would wake up first, but this time, it was Wu Jing who opened his eyes. As soon as he moved, he sensed something was off. He held his breath and cautiously lifted his gaze, only to suddenly find himself staring into the close-set black eyes of the Alpha.
Wu Jing lowered his head again, realizing how he had completely shifted from his sleeping position to sprawled across the Alpha’s body, like an octopus.
It was clear who had taken the initiative.
“I’m so sorry—!!!”
The little rabbit jumped up in a panic.
Wu Jing scrambled to the other side of the bed, flustered and apologizing, “I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t mean to.”
The Alpha remained calm, his expression even somewhat amused. He chuckled softly, sitting up, throwing off the covers, and getting out of bed to grab a change of clothes. “No need to apologize; it’s fine.”
Wu Jing breathed a sigh of relief, watching as the Alpha walked toward the bathroom.
Before entering, Ning Qinghong paused at the door, casually saying, “I’ve gotten used to it; it’s been like this for the past few days.” He turned slightly, his tall figure and the flowing robe appearing considerate and gentle. “Even if you are just my nominal wife, I have a duty to respect your lifestyle.”
“You don’t need to worry or distance yourself from me.” His words seemed aimed at reassuring Wu Jing not to change his habits just to accommodate him.
Wu Jing felt a bit embarrassed and dismissed any thoughts of returning to his own room, shaking his head anxiously, “I won’t.” He watched the Alpha enter the bathroom, then collapsed back onto the bed, burying his face in the pillow.
A few days? How many days had it been? Had it started from the very first day? How could he be like this??? Wu Jing felt like he was going to suffocate, his whole body burning, the sweet scent of berry jam overwhelming him, his spirit almost turning a deep pink from embarrassment.
When Ning Qinghong finally emerged, Wu Jing hadn’t run away due to that one comment.
Trying to appear calm, he sat on the bed playing with his smart device. “Good morning.”
Ning Qinghong smiled, “Good morning. Do you need me to wait for you?”
Wu Jing immediately panicked and rejected the offer, “No, no, it’s fine. I’ll be down soon.”
Once the Alpha left, Wu Jing’s legs felt weak as he got out of bed and walked into the bathroom filled with the Alpha’s pheromones. He realized he was less reactive than before, almost numb to the scent.
He had become so accustomed to the Alpha’s pheromones that he didn’t even notice how infused he was with them. Habitually, he changed into his clothes in the fragrant bathroom and emerged in his pajamas.
For several days, even if Wu Jing added another plush toy, the scene each morning remained the same—he would wake up sprawled across the Alpha.
Gradually, he became accustomed to this, blushing as he carefully slipped out of the Alpha’s embrace to sleep on the other side. Sometimes, he even lingered in bed for a bit after the Alpha got up.
But today felt different.
“Mr. Ning… I’ll go back to my room now,” Wujing said softly. “I won’t have breakfast with you today.”
Ning Qinghong paused, as if recalling something. “Is it your heat?”
Wujing’s face began to flush. “Yes, yes it is.”
Ning Qinghong spoke gently, “Be safe. If anything happens, you can contact me.”
Wujing’s voice was barely a whisper. “Okay, okay.”
Soon, the manor was quiet again, with only him left. After finishing his breakfast, Wujing returned to his room and took out the omega heat suppression medication he had brought, skillfully pressing the small bottle to his arm.
He picked up his terminal and got back into bed, swinging his legs as he played games.
But slowly, Wujing’s face grew redder. He got up again and turned the air conditioning down a bit, but he still felt the heat intensifying around him, as if he were about to melt into a puddle.
He couldn’t concentrate on the game anymore, feeling dazed as he got up and tried to take off his clothes, stumbling toward the bathroom for a cold shower.
What was happening? Was the air conditioning in the manor broken? Why was it so hot?
“Plop—”
What was that sound?
Where was the water coming from?
Wujing looked down hazily, noticing sticky droplets slowly dripping from an intimate area along his leg.
“Plop—.”
Before he knew it, he was wet all over, his skin glistening from the sticky liquid.
He couldn’t see or realize it, stepping on the two pieces of clothing he had just taken off, only wearing an oversized white T-shirt, and he dizzily shook his head as he walked toward the bathroom.
His rationality hadn’t been completely consumed by the heat yet, but as he was washing, he finally sensed something was off.
Minutes later, in the Federal Building’s conference hall, Alpha Ning Qinghong received a call. He glanced at it and then shut his terminal.
He didn’t answer the call but calmly continued discussing matters with the deputy chairman.
On the other end, the omega was clearly out of options, having held off until he could wait no longer. Embarrassed, he finally dialed the number in a panic. Ning Qinghong knew very well that the boy didn’t have much time left; soon, his rationality would be overwhelmed by his heat.
By the time the meeting ended, there were already over a dozen missed calls on his device, and more were still coming in.
Each one came closer together, more urgent than the last.
Ning Qinghong remained unfazed, smiling slightly as he walked alongside the committee member, giving instructions about follow-up matters.
When they reached the top floor, the committee member respectfully bowed, saying, “Understood, Chairman, take care.”
The entire top floor was his office.
Ning Qinghong sat at the conference table, leisurely flipping through documents while casually pressing the answer button. His tone was gentle as he said, “Sorry, I was just in a post-war meeting for the Federation. What’s wrong?”
The Alpha’s voice made the omega’s pheromones surge even more. On the other end of the call, there was the sound of something dropping—perhaps the device—followed by a series of rapid breaths and a hint of panicked sobbing.
His little omega wife was calling for help.
“…Mr. Ning, my suppressants seem to have worn off. Wuwu… I’ve taken them, but it didn’t work. The heat hasn’t stopped.”
“I’m so hot, so burning, what should I do…”
Ning Qinghong paused for a moment, then gently asked, “Have you checked the device? There should be higher-grade, more effective suppressants prepared at home.”
On the other end, there was a small, distressed cry, breaths coming in quick gasps. “I checked, I checked. The mechanical butler brought them to me, but I used them, and they didn’t work…”
He babbled about his grievances.
Ning Qinghong chuckled lightly, “So what can we do?” His voice was soft. “Hospitals don’t handle omega heat. If you go to a doctor, knowing you have a legal partner, they’ll just tell you to seek your Alpha.”
The Alpha smiled leisurely again, “I’m sorry.”
“I’m just your nominal husband, and I’ve been preparing for our divorce lately, so I probably can’t help you.”
