Boundary - Chapter 16
If there was anything, he would call her.
Jin Nanting had always been a trustworthy partner, and precisely because she knew this well, when Gu Yetong woke up again, it was already two in the morning.
This was the longest and most peaceful sleep she had had in the past three or four days.
In the darkness, her arm bumped into a wall of flesh. After a moment of confusion, she realized that Jin Nanting had also stayed overnight in her room.
She tiptoed out of bed, went to the bathroom, and then left the room to check on her grandfather. Just as she reached the old man’s door, she heard thunderous snoring from inside, which reassured her, and she returned the same way to her room.
Looking at the tall, human-shaped figure now occupying the bed that had once been hers alone, Gu Yetong realized for the first time so clearly and profoundly that this man, who had barged into her world, had become a part of her.
Not just during sex, and not just on legal documents, their lives and existences had become irrevocably intertwined.
She quietly laid back down on the bed, on her side of it. Her bed wasn’t as big as the one in their residence, so if she shifted or moved even slightly, she would touch Jin Nanting.
Fortunately, he was already fast asleep.
This also seemed to be the first time she had observed him so closely while he slept. On the few nights they had shared a bed, almost every time had ended with her being completely exhausted first. And the last time at the hotel in the western mountains, she hadn’t been able to sleep as peacefully facing him as she did tonight.
In the darkness, she could only make out the contours of his features, but she could still feel his unique coolness and detachment.
Yet his palm was warm. Quietly, Gu Yetong reached out and covered his right hand, which lay between them, slipping her fingertips beneath his palm.
She liked his hands. Gu Yetong confirmed it again. Not just because his hands could bring her pleasure, but because they could also bring her a sense of security.
Firm, broad, and strong, they made her dare to place a part of her weight in his hands.
Gu Yetong closed her eyes.
When she heard about her grandfather’s stroke, she felt as if she had completely lost her soul. If her secretary hadn’t arranged a driver for her and accompanied her to the hospital, she didn’t know how much precious time she would have wasted.
And sitting outside the emergency room, she felt so alone.
After her mother passed away and her father remarried, her grandfather had poured all his love and energy into her and her sister. Heartbroken by her father, her grandfather no longer insisted on having a successor and never forced her to take up the family mantle. But when he learned of her interest, he fully supported and nurtured her with all his heart.
Though there were still gaps and regrets, she had received no shortage of love from her family.
But now, with Tangtang missing, and if her grandfather were to leave her too… she didn’t know who in her world would care for her, or whom she could care for in return.
She admitted that, at that moment, she hadn’t thought of Jin Nanting.
They were indeed genuine husband and wife, legally and physically. But her past life experiences couldn’t convince her of how much trust and reliance could exist between a married couple.
Perhaps it could be a little more.
Gu Yetong thought drowsily. Perhaps not because he was her husband, but because he was Jin Nanting.
After all, whenever her left calf ached from walking too much, she would also think that it would have been better if she had agreed to let Jin Nanting carry her down the mountain that day.
Unaware, as she drifted peacefully into sleep, the man lying so close to her slowly opened his eyes, turned his hand to grasp hers, and pulled her into his arms.
