Chapter 117
As Sa Muheon got out of the car and stepped into the building, the employees who spotted him hurriedly bowed their heads. Sa Muheon took his time observing them one by one as he made his way leisurely to his office. He could hear the murmurs of the employees behind him as he passed, but he didn’t pay much attention to them. After all, most things that happened within this building were within Chief Han’s grasp. If there was anything among their whispers that he needed to know, a report would reach him, and if it was just useless chatter, Chief Han would take care of it at his level.
Passing by Jang Seokgyu’s empty seat, Sa Muheon entered the inner room. Though he had been away for a few days, the office was immaculate, without a speck of dust. Sitting in his familiar chair, Sa Muheon took the documents handed to him by Chief Han.
After reviewing the general matters he had heard on the way and confirming the detailed contents, he handed the documents back to Chief Han. Just then, a commotion erupted outside.
“You can’t go in!”
“Do you even know who I am? Get lost!”
If Jang Seokgyu had been here, this would have been dealt with before any noise reached him. But since he was away, problems like this arose. However, that didn’t mean he regretted assigning Jang Seokgyu to Garam. Besides, the arrogant voice coming from outside was one Sa Muheon was very familiar with.
Chief Han, noticing Sa Muheon’s furrowing brows, glanced toward the door and quietly spoke.
“Shall I send him away?”
“No need. If you tell him to leave, he’ll just throw the same tantrum at you, so why waste time listening to that? Just let him in.”
“Understood. Should I contact Madam if necessary?”
“Hmm…”
Using his mother’s authority might be the easiest way to handle the person outside. However, the situation wasn’t ideal. If he had come all the way here, it likely meant that even his mother’s words could no longer control him.
After a moment of consideration, Sa Muheon shook his head. There was no need to trouble his busy mother with unnecessary matters. Someone like that was still well within his ability to handle.
“No. She’s a busy person, and there’s no need to add to her worries. I’ll handle it myself.”
“Understood.”
Chief Han nodded and immediately headed for the door. At the same time, the loud banging of fists against the door echoed through the office, as if those outside had finally lost patience after being held back. Sa Muheon could clearly see Chief Han’s expression twist in displeasure, though his own had long since darkened.
As Chief Han opened the door, the man standing outside greeted him with a mocking familiarity.
“Well, well, look who it is. Chief Han, still holed up in this place?”
“Come in. The director is expecting you.”
“Hah, aren’t you tired of cleaning up after that little brat?”
Despite the blatant sneer, Chief Han’s expression remained unchanged. He stepped aside, allowing the troublemaker to stride in arrogantly. Seeing that face made Sa Muheon’s expression involuntarily twist in disgust.
The man entered the office with an air of complete disregard for Sa Muheon, scanning the interior with a derisive whistle. Only after thoroughly surveying the room did he finally fix his gaze on Sa Muheon.
“Seems like playing with money is a lot of fun for you.”
“What, jealous?”
Clearly intending to provoke Sa Muheon, the man was instead thrown off by the relaxed response. His face turned red with irritation.
“Sa Muheon!”
“Why are you calling my name like that? Are you worried I might forget it?”
“Tsk…”
The man clicked his tongue, exasperated by Sa Muheon’s unbothered tone. Leaning back in his chair, Sa Muheon spoke again.
“Sa Mujin. Since you’ve come all the way here, you must have a reason. Just say what you need to and get lost. If you don’t have any business, turn around and walk out now.”
“You—”
“Do I really need to tolerate your disgusting face in my own space? Your skin’s all greasy… Tsk. You’re getting older; at least take care of yourself. Snake shifters already have a disadvantage in the marriage market. You should at least try to look presentable. With that appearance…”
Sa Muheon scanned Sa Mujin from head to toe before clicking his tongue in disdain. Sa Mujin’s face flushed red with rage, his clenched fists trembling as if he were about to throw a punch at any moment. But he could do nothing but shake.
There was no need for him to experience it again to know how this confrontation would end. His countless defeats had left him frozen in place. Sa Muheon, as if expecting this, smirked mockingly at his cousin.
“Just looking at you is ruining my mood. Hurry up and state your business.”
“Hah…”
Sa Muheon’s condescending words made Sa Mujin scoff in disbelief. Grinding his teeth, he strode toward Sa Muheon’s desk with heavy steps.
Despite his unimpressive looks, Sa Mujin was physically imposing, and his mere approach was enough to intimidate some people. But Sa Muheon remained utterly unfazed, gazing at him with a look that seemed to ask, “What exactly are you trying to do?”
That look made Sa Mujin feel a fleeting sense of humiliation. But he quickly steadied himself and spoke.
“So what exactly makes you think you’re so superior? Is that why, even at your age, you’re still clinging to Auntie’s skirts?”
“What are you trying to say?”
Despite the mention of his mother, Sa Muheon remained calm, acting as if he had no idea what Sa Mujin was implying. As expected, it seemed he had been fired from the law firm and was here to vent his frustrations. He really was as pathetic as ever.
“What exactly did you say to Auntie—?!”
“Me? What could I have said?”
Sa Muheon feigned ignorance until the end. Technically, he was just stating the truth. Sa Mujin had been fired because of his own actions—Sa Muheon hadn’t said a single word about him. The fact that Sa Mujin even thought he had any influence over his mother’s company was laughable.
If Sa Muheon ever dared to interfere in his mother’s business, he would be cast aside without hesitation. And yet, this idiot still understood nothing.
“And it seems like you’re under a very big misunderstanding.”
“What?”
“Do you really think I talked about you to Mother?”
Saying it out loud was amusing to him. Smoothing out a chuckle, Sa Muheon saw Sa Mujin flinch.
“Do you think I have that much interest in you? I don’t know what you’ve been up to that made you so nervous you had to come all the way to me, but…”
“Ugh…”
“If you’re going to pick a fight with someone, shouldn’t you at least know them well first?”
As Sa Muheon rose from his seat, he immediately towered over Sa Mujin. Even with the large desk between them, Sa Mujin instinctively recoiled as if expecting Sa Muheon to lunge at him.
“If you were going to do shady things, you should’ve at least made sure you didn’t get caught.”
“So you’re saying this is all because of you…!”
“Hah… Fine. Let’s say I did talk.”
Sa Muheon ran a hand through his hair as if exasperated. The mere act of raising his hand made Sa Mujin flinch again. Realizing he had shown his fear, Sa Mujin tried to glare at Sa Muheon with forced bravado, but it had no effect whatsoever.
“You know better than anyone how sharp Seohui Han from Seunghwa Law Firm is, don’t you?”
“That…”
Sa Mujin fumbled for a response, avoiding his gaze. He knew the truth even without Sa Muheon pointing it out.
“Even if you were pulling shady deals behind the scenes, do you think Mother would have fired you just because of a word from me? And that too, from her own son who knows little about her company? You didn’t even consider that much? How did an idiot like you ever become a lawyer…”
Clicking his tongue, Sa Muheon watched as Sa Mujin’s face flushed red with humiliation.
“Looks like you just needed someone to blame. But you picked the wrong person. Instead of whining to me about why it happened, you should’ve gone to Mother and gotten on your knees.”
The more Sa Muheon spoke, the more ridiculous Sa Mujin seemed. He didn’t even have the guts to face the CEO who fired him and instead came to take it out on the one person he assumed was easier to deal with. But that assumption had been a grave mistake.
The last time Sa Muheon had ever let Sa Mujin win, even on the surface, was in their childhood. Back then, he had only done so because he didn’t want to see his mother struggling with the conflict between her and her sister. But after his mother realized he had been deliberately losing and ended up in tears over it, he never made that mistake again.
Meanwhile, Sa Mujin, spoiled and coddled all his life, had clearly lost any ability to properly assess the strength or capability of those around him. The thought that someone like him had dared to see Sa Muheon as an easy target made irritation bubble up. Clicking his tongue, Sa Muheon turned his gaze to Han, who had been standing quietly in the back.
“He’s done. Show him out.”
“Understood.”
As Han stepped forward and reached for him, Sa Mujin swatted his hand away in irritation. But in the end, he stormed out of the office without ever managing to say anything proper to Sa Muheon.
His departure was just as pathetic as his entrance.
