From a nobody online dating to a top love brain - Chapter 1
“Nannan, don’t be afraid, I’m coming to save you!”
Fear paralyzed them.
“Are you kidding? I’m coming to save you!”
The last teammate surrendered immediately.
The dormitory fell silent for a while.
Yu Nan decisively exited the game, and the other two roommates also quickly closed the game, afraid of being scolded by random players they matched with.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
After a brief knock at the door, there was the sound of a key turning in the lock.
The other two were stunned for a moment, but Yu Nan reacted first: “It’s the new student.”
Every school year, there are always some unfortunate new students who are assigned to different class dorms or senior dorms.
Their dorm used to have four people, but one roommate chose to commute last semester, leaving a vacant bed.
During the summer break, they knew a new freshman would move in, so they started clearing out the extra bed, which had been piled high with their stuff, as soon as they returned to the dorm yesterday.
“Creak.”
The door was pushed open, and a suitcase came into view.
“Wow! He’s tall!”
“Wow! He’s handsome!”
The two roommates were generous with their compliments. Judging by the two-meter-high door frame, Yu Nan estimated the freshman’s height to be around 185 cm.
The freshman’s simple and clean attire made a very good first impression.
Yu Nan quietly lowered his head to look at his phone, leaving the greetings to the other roommates as he was somewhat introverted and shy.
Beibei: Baby, I’ve arrived at the dorm!
Followed by a cute dog sticker asking for praise.
Yu Nan smiled, Make sure to get along well with your roommates.
Beibei: I will!
When he looked up again, the roommates were already introducing themselves.
“My name is Chen Feng’an, and this is Li Muyang.” Chen Feng’an patted Li Muyang’s shoulder.
Bei Yuye nodded slightly: “Hello seniors, my name is Bei Yuye.”
Chen Feng’an, being friendly, also patted the new student’s shoulder: “Now that you’re here, we’re family. Don’t be too reserved. We’re all masters of this dorm.”
Bei Yuye glanced around the dorm. It was a four-person room with a bed on top and a desk below, and it was cleaner and tidier than he had expected.
Finally, his gaze landed on the only senior who hadn’t introduced himself yet.
Yu Nan quickly reported his name when he caught the gaze: “My name is Yu Nan.”
The freshman started to unpack, and Chen Feng’an and the others asked him some shallow questions to show their friendliness.
During this time, Yu Nan had already climbed onto his bed. The commotion below had nothing to do with him. He was a bit uncomfortable with the new addition because he wasn’t fond of talking to people. With another person in the dorm, he felt the burden of more social interaction. In his university life, he could only call a few roommates his friends.
Beibei: The roommates are quite enthusiastic.
Along with another dog sticker.
Yu Nan replied, Then tidy up properly.
After sending the message, he grabbed a piece of bread, munching on it while reading a manga.
The new chapter was rich in romantic scenes, the artwork consistent and appealing, with delightful and well-executed details.
It was this manga that made him squeal with joy in his bed like a worm during the summer break, even making him yearn for a sweet romance.
However, timid as he was, he only dared to date online.
Beibei was Yu Nan’s online boyfriend, whom he met through gaming. They had known each other for over a year.
Their relationship started suddenly. During the summer, he kept lamenting in his friends’ group chat about wanting a sweet romance.
His friends gave various suggestions, but he only talked the talk without taking any action.
Finally, his friends gave him an answer: lucid dreaming.
They told him that if he mastered it, he could have any type of man in his dreams.
Annoyed, Yu Nan could only vent his frustration again. It was then that Beibei sent him a message.
Beibei asked if he wanted to play a game.
Yu Nan teased him: I’m going to learn lucid dreaming.
Beibei replied with a question mark.
Yu Nan copied and pasted what his friends told him: If I learn it, I can have any type of man in my dreams.
Beibei responded: What about someone like me? Would I appear in your dreams?
Yu Nan thought of a sweet response: If you date me and never break up, I’ll dream of you every night.
Beibei paused for a few seconds before replying: So, you want to have an online romance with me?
Yu Nan replied instantly: As long as you agree, I’ll dream of you every night.
Beibei: Alright, let’s start dating then.
At first, Yu Nan thought it was a joke, but after they went back and forth for nearly an hour and a half, they finally confirmed their online relationship.
Although online dating wasn’t reliable, for someone like Yu Nan, it’s his ultimate choice.
No face-to-face meetings, just pure chatting, that’s the kind of romance he wanted.
Never meeting meant Beibei could always be perfect in his imagination.
The bed frame creaked suddenly, and he quickly hid his phone screen against his chest.
Bei Yuye, who was sleeping across from him, was now making his bed.
Yu Nan had enjoyed the freedom of no one sleeping across from him last semester, where he could watch whatever he wanted under the covers without worry.
Now that someone was there, he had to be careful. Watching certain things at his age felt like being a thief. He cried inwardly.
The activity across the room went on for a while, stopping just as Beibei sent him a message.
Beibei: Baby, can we still voice chat every night even if we’re in the dorm?
Yu Nan blushed, his ears turning red: You’re in the dorm too, can you voice chat at night?
Beibei: As long as we chat before our roommates sleep, it should be fine. I’ll use earphones.
Yu Nan: Aren’t you afraid your roommates will notice?
Beibei: What’s the big deal?
Yu Nan wanted to advise him further: Since you’re in the dorm, you should consider your roommates. Even if you try to be quiet, there will still be some noise.
He quickly typed a long string of words: Isn’t it strange to spend an hour or two in the bathroom every day?
Yu Nan saw the typing indicator on the chat screen for a long time, but no message came through.
He continued sincerely: You shouldn’t always think about such things. Freshmen have a heavy course load, and military training will tire you out.
Finally, Beibei replied.
Beibei: I just want to hear your voice every day, talk about our daily lives.
Beibei: I knew you were feeling guilty.
Yu Nan’s face turned completely red, both ashamed and angry.
He angrily typed: I’m not! I just…
Forget it, he deleted the message.
He retyped: I just miss you.
And sent a kiss emoji.
“Is it hot up there?” Chen Feng’an suddenly asked.
Yu Nan looked up in confusion: “What?”
Bei Yuye, facing him, also had a red face.
Chen Feng’an lowered the air conditioning temperature: “Your faces are both as red as monkey butts.”
Li Muyang glanced up too: “Is it that hot up there for you guys?”
Yu Nan’s face turned red again, this time from embarrassment.
Bei Yuye took the opportunity to say: “Thank you, senior. It was indeed a bit hot.”
Chen Feng’an waved his hand: “No problem, just let us know if it gets hot. The remote’s with me.”
Yu Nan felt a bit sleepy. He had stayed up late last night and woke up early today.
He messaged Beibei: Baby, I’m a bit sleepy. I’ll take a nap first.
Beibei: Baby, sleep well.
He contentedly turned off his phone and placed it beside his pillow, then fell asleep.
Bei Yuye, on the other hand, was rubbing the screen with a chat background showing a screenshot from a video call with his baby.
The image showed a clean upper body with crossed arms and pinkish shoulders.
Every time he saw the background, he could recall what happened during that video call.
He thought for a moment and then changed the background, fearing someone might see it.
He replayed the scene of meeting his “Nannan” in his mind daily, even though Nannan had never mentioned it.
The class group chat buzzed with a message saying they needed to go to the classroom at 3 PM.
He set an alarm and lay down for a nap.
His Nannan was taking a nap, so he was taking a nap too. His Nannan was napping in bed, and so was he.
In a sense, they were napping together, which made him feel happy and he fell asleep.
The dormitory was very cool with the air conditioning on low, and the whole room was chilly.
When Yu Nan woke up, he instinctively curled up under the covers. He got up and saw that he was alone in the dormitory.
He got out of bed, found the air conditioner remote on Chen Feng’an’s desk, and turned up the temperature by two degrees before turning on his computer.
He grabbed the water bottle on his desk and took a big gulp, his throat dry from the air conditioning.
He skillfully logged into his game account, put on his headphones, and started doing daily tasks.
[Friend] Dreams Have Everything: Oh, look who’s finally online, Mr. Busy!
Yu Nan checked his friends list. Almost everyone was online, so he immediately ran to their in-game guild chat to stir things up.
[Seven Fairies of Joy] Yu Nan: Let’s go, the final battle.
He had been playing this game since it launched, six years now, and he relied on his friends to keep him going.
[Seven Fairies of Joy] Dreams are Everything: Offline for three days, now you want us to work like mules.
[Seven Fairies of Joy] Watch the Sword: Let’s go, fight.
[Seven Fairies of Joy] Watch the Sword: I’m inviting you all now.
Yu Nan received the party invitation and immediately accepted, opening his mic as soon as he joined: “Charge!”
Dreams are Everything: First, I love you all. Second, I love you all. Lastly, let’s split up and fight.
Just Joined: Rain is Quietly Falling repeated: First, I love you all. Second, I love you all. Lastly, let’s split up and fight.
As soon as they entered the instance, everyone was quiet for half a minute, and then the yelling began.
Dreams are Everything: Sword Man, get over here! Stop avoiding the healer!
Rain is Quietly Falling: Heal me first! Heal me first! I’m not dodging!
Watch the Sword: I’ll tank!
Milk Tea: Sweep the Six Harmonies, sweep the Six Harmonies!
Half an hour later.
Watch the Sword: I’m waiting for cooldowns, Milk Tea, what are you waiting for? Waiting to die?
Milk Tea: Heal me, I’m not dodging!
Yu Nan followed them closely, healing: “Why did Little Dream die! Healer, why did you die!”
Dreams are Everything: In dreams, I don’t know if I’m the guest!
Bei Yuye returned to the dorm to find Yu Nan emotionally invested in his game.
“Everyone, get over here!”
“Boss rush us!”
“Is it so or not, you’re all butterflies coming to me!”
