Before heading back to the dorm, the two of them asked Chen Feng’an to join them for a barbecue at the night market. Li Muyang directly grabbed a beer and said, “We don’t have early classes tomorrow, so we can indulge tonight.”
Chen Feng’an thought about the dorm: “Quickly ask our junior if he has early classes tomorrow. If not, let’s have a great night.”
Yu Nan ran to the dorm group chat and tagged Bei Yuye to ask if he had early classes the next morning.
Bei Yuye: No, what’s up?
Li Muyang: We’re buying barbecue to eat in the dorm. What do you like? We’ll get some more.
Bei Yuye: Thanks, seniors. I’m good with anything.
Li Muyang raised the beer in his hand, “Let’s drink till we drop tonight!”
On the way, Yu Nan also casually bought two bottles of soft drinks since he doesn’t drink alcohol.
They initially only planned to buy barbecue, but the enticing aromas and flavors along the way led them to buy even more food.
“Wait, I haven’t had Fuding meat slices in a long time,” Yu Nan stopped in front of a stall.
There were three stalls selling Fuding meat slices on this street. This one was his favorite, but it was also the farthest from the school. He hadn’t had it this semester.
Li Muyang incredulously said, “You’ll be full after eating those meat slices. Do you still want other things?”
Last year, the three of them often went to the night market, and Yu Nan always bought Fuding meat slices from this stall, but he never finished them.
“Boss, please pack the pickled peppers separately,” Yu Nan said nonchalantly. “I’ll share a few bites with you guys. Enjoy.”
Chen Feng’an immediately opened the food delivery app: “Wait, I’m ordering some crayfish. What flavor do you want?”
“I give up on you guys. It’ll be wasteful if we can’t finish all this,” Li Muyang said while he honestly started ordering fried chicken and pizza.
Yu Nan took the Fuding meat slices handed over by the boss and continued walking towards the school.
“Wait a second, let’s get some rice rolls.”
“Stop, I want to buy something.”
By the time they reached the school gate, all three of them were carrying loads of food.
Even then, Yu Nan glanced at the fruit shop at the gate: “I think we need some fruit.”
When they came out of the fruit shop, each of them had a box of fruit in hand.
“We’re already at the school gate. Victory is in sight,” dorm leader Chen Feng’an cheered.
“I want some braised food,” Li Muyang pointed with his chin at the braised food shop in front of the school gate.
The three of them were now hugging their loads of food, with no free hands left.
Yu Nan noticed someone familiar standing in front of the braised food shop. It was a friend of their junior who had previously shared a table with them. It should be okay to ask him to help pay first, and they could repay their junior later.
Yu Nan said, “That person up front is our junior’s friend. Can we ask him to help pay first, and then repay him later?”
Li Muyang was delighted and urged Yu Nan to ask.
Yu Nan regretted speaking up. He laboriously approached the junior’s friend and briefly explained his request.
Pei Yunchuan recognized the senior as Bei Yuye’s dormmate and agreed without hesitation. After paying, he carefully placed the braised food on top of Yu Nan’s pile.
“Could you do us another favor? Could you bring our delivery from the school gate to us?” Yu Nan recalled that others had ordered delivery too.
Pei Yunchuan had just come out to buy braised food and was heading back, so he agreed.
Li Muyang and Chen Feng’an reported their order numbers, continuously thanking him.
Pei Yunchuan waved it off: “It’s no trouble.”
“Do you need help? You all seem overloaded,” he asked but didn’t hand over the delivery.
Yu Nan gratefully said, “Thanks a lot. Can you help with the Fuding meat slices I’m holding with my finger?”
With so much to carry, his hands were sore and he was willing to give the Fuding meat slices as a thank-you gift.
Chen Feng’an and Li Muyang laughed heartlessly.
The four finally stepped into the school gate. Yu Nan sighed, thinking he wouldn’t want to leave the campus for a long time after this trip.
Yu Nan’s roommates chatted happily with the junior’s friend. As they approached the dorm building, the junior’s friend laughed heartily.
“Your voice sounds familiar,” Yu Nan suddenly said as they were about to part ways.
He hadn’t thought much about it before, but the junior’s friend’s laughter sounded just like… Milk Tea?
Pei Yunchuan laughed: “I’ve mentioned that your voice sounds like my friend’s too. It’s fate.”
He then carefully placed the items in the seniors’ hands, hooking the Fuding meat slices back onto his finger.
Yu Nan gave the junior’s friend a box of fruit, not because he was unwilling to part with the Fuding meat slices, but because he thought fruit would go better with the braised food.
Because of the voice similar to Milk Tea’s, his favorability towards the junior’s friend increased.
The three of them were exhausted by the time they climbed to the fifth floor. Chen Feng’an had to use his body to knock on the door, calling for the junior to open it.
As the door opened, the cool air from the dorm poured out. The three of them rushed in and immediately set down their items.
“You bought so much?” Bei Yuye was surprised, especially seeing Li Muyang with two cases of beer.
He slightly stepped aside, indicating the seniors should look at his desk.
Bei Yuye, thinking the seniors were nice and even reminded him about grabbing deals, had ordered a lot of food himself to share when he learned they were getting barbecue.
Yu Nan saw the pile of food on the junior’s desk and asked, “Did we buy too much?”
Chen Feng’an waved his hand dismissively. He swiftly laid out two suitcases on the floor, covered them with plastic wrap and tin foil, and started organizing the food.
The four sat around on the floor, arranging the food.
Li Muyang offered the junior a beer, but Bei Yuye declined: “Sorry, senior, I don’t drink.”
Yu Nan pulled out a bottle of soft drink and tossed it to the junior: “No problem, we have drinks.”
After clinking glasses, he eagerly opened his Fuding meat slices and began eating. It was still his favorite.
He quickly grabbed his tablet, set it up on the floor, and started looking for a movie to watch.
“Junior, have some skewers. NanNan, here’s your golden cake,” Chen Feng’an motherly handed out food to them.
Yu Nan took a big bite and couldn’t resist messaging Bei Bei: Eating golden cake, it’s soft and sweet, thought of you.
The tablet was playing a comedy, and laughter and applause occasionally filled the room. Yu Nan loved watching horror movies but was easily scared.
Thinking about it, he decided to take advantage of the lively atmosphere and searched for a horror movie he had always wanted to watch but never dared to.
The result was that when Bei Yuye reached for the skewers in front of him, he glanced at the screen and was startled by a sudden face, quickly recoiling.
Noticing Yu Nan eating skewers with his eyes closed, Bei Yuye’s reaction drew the attention of the other two, who looked at Yu Nan, then at his tablet screen. He showed no intention of opening his eyes.
Chen Feng’an took out his phone to capture a wide-angle photo, signaling everyone to gather. The three of them posed, while Yu Nan continued eating skewers with his eyes closed, watching a horror movie.
He posted the photo in the dorm group: “A moment to remember.”
Yu Nan opened his eyes to get more meat slices, noticing the unusual silence. He looked up to find everyone staring at him.
He scooped three pieces of meat, giving one to each of them, muttering: “If you’ve taken my food, stop staring.”
The dorm erupted in laughter, while he remained clueless about what was so funny.
“What are you watching?” Chen Feng’an asked, holding back his laughter.
He held up the tablet, screen facing everyone: “A horror movie.”
“You’re lying; you had your eyes closed the whole time,” Li Muyang added.
Yu Nan understood, huffed, and pretended to retrieve his meat from their plates.
They stopped him, piling more food onto his plate.
Feeling disgruntled, he decided to place the tablet where everyone could see it, so they could all watch together.
“Is there a ghost in this house?” Li Muyang leaned back.
“The mom is possessed!” Chen Feng’an hid behind him.
Bei Yuye quietly ate his skewers, too scared to look around.
Yu Nan faced the screen, eyes closed, enjoying his skewers. Hearing the others’ exaggerated reactions, he smiled: “Not one of us is brave.”
The group nervously finished their meal and began the long process of cleaning up. Chen Feng’an, annoyed by their clumsiness, took over most of the work.
Feeling guilty, Yu Nan and the others helped out, even mopping the floor at the end.
After finishing, they took turns showering. During his turn, Yu Nan habitually started chatting with Bei Bei.
Bei Bei: I’m shy.
Yu Nan smiled, suddenly thinking of a new play: You haven’t called me brother yet.
Bei Bei: You’re not ashamed, bullying me.
He quickly typed: Our little Bei Bei is shy. Brother kisses.
Bei Yuye’s phone rang. Seeing it was a video call from Pei Yunchuan, he answered and looked for his earphones.
“Hehe, it’s me. Your roommate is great, gave me a beer and fruit. The melon is delicious.”
The voice reached Yu Nan’s ears. Isn’t this Milk Tea’s voice? It is Milk Tea’s voice.
No wonder the first time they met, Milk Tea said his voice was familiar. That night playing games, Milk Tea also mentioned meeting someone with a similar voice.
Li Muyang moved closer: “Junior, thanks!”
“Hey, no problem!”
Li Muyang laughed: “Your friend can’t handle his drink.”
Bei Yuye put on his earphones and replied: “Yes, one drink and he’s out. He likes to act drunk, just ignore him.”
Bad at holding his liquor and acts drunk—must be Milk Tea.
Yu Nan remembered Milk Tea’s name and tested the junior: “Pei Yunchuan?”
With his earphones on, Bei Yuye couldn’t hear over Pei Yunchuan’s singing. He quickly removed them.
“Senior, I couldn’t hear you with the earphones on. His voice was loud and drowned you out,” he explained.
