Yu Nan confirmed again, “Your friend, Pei Yunchuan?”
“It’s ‘Yun,’ as in ‘allowing,’ Pei Yunchuan,” Bei Yuye corrected.
Yu Nan posted in the group chat: I think I just met Milk Tea.
His feelings were complicated. His online friend of six years turned out to be a close friend of his junior. It felt surreal.
Bei Yuye ended the call, and within seconds, Yu Nan’s phone rang.
Sure enough, it was a group voice chat initiated by Milk Tea. Having just dealt with his friend, Milk Tea was now bothering them.
“Love is… narrow!”
“The world… is big!”
“And we… should… grow up!”
Bei Yuye was stunned by the familiar singing. He watched as Yu Nan calmly put on his earphones.
Pei Yunchuan had added the senior as a friend? And now he was drunk-dialing the senior?
Yu Nan gave a thumbs-up to the junior, “Your friend is quite something.”
A voice came through, “What do you mean you saw Milk Tea?”
Yu Nan sat in his chair and unmuted, “Literally. He’s my junior.”
“What? Really? In real life?”
Yu Nan still found it hard to believe, “Yeah, he’s a friend of my roommate. That laugh is unmistakable.”
“What? Senior!” Milk Tea, mid-song, heard his name.
Yu Nan teased Milk Tea, “Guess which senior I am?”
“Huh? Senior!” Milk Tea slurred.
Yu Nan laughed heartily, “Rounded up, this counts as a meetup?”
“Huh? Senior!” Milk Tea was trying hard but failing to figure it out.
He was thoroughly drunk, and after chatting with the others for a while, Yu Nan ended the call.
“Senior, my friend just likes to act drunk. Don’t mind him,” Bei Yuye tried to salvage Pei Yunchuan’s image after seeing Yu Nan hang up.
Yu Nan suddenly remembered the guy in love and sized up his junior.
Tall, handsome, wealthy, and a hopeless romantic.
No wonder he had never seen the junior’s girlfriend—it was an online relationship. He burst into laughter, tears streaming down his face.
He recalled the junior asking if someone asking for photos frequently meant they liked him. Now, looking at Bei Yuye, he found him even more likable.
Bei Yuye looked at him, confused by his laughter.
Yu Nan, laughing even harder, said, “Junior, they must like you a lot, asking for your photos.”
Bei Yuye realized what the senior was implying and thought of Nannan, smiling broadly, “Right, right, he says he loves me very much.”
Seeing the junior’s sudden honesty, Yu Nan thought, indeed, a hopeless romantic.
The next day, Milk Tea woke up and saw the group messages, taking a moment to process everything from start to finish.
Pei Yunchuan, having no afternoon classes, immediately arranged to meet Yu Nan. They met at the dormitory entrance.
As Yu Nan came downstairs, he saw Milk Tea holding a game-themed umbrella. He raised his chin and eyebrows, “Aren’t I super handsome?”
Yu Nan dramatically put a hand to his forehead, “Embarrassing.”
With nothing else to do, they wandered around the campus.
“What do people usually do at meetups?” Milk Tea asked.
Yu Nan replied, “Certainly not walking around campus with a game-themed umbrella.”
Milk Tea suggested, “come to my place tonight, let’s play games together!”
Yu Nan hesitated, not liking to share a bed with others.
“It’s an off-campus house, Bei Yuye’s. We stay there on Fridays and Saturdays. There are other rooms. I’ll let him know,” Milk Tea explained.
Yu Nan hesitated, never having stayed off-campus before, “Maybe not.”
“Right, right, you’re staying there tonight,” Milk Tea completely ignored his reluctance and called Bei Yuye.
“Your roommate?” Milk Tea turned to Yu Nan, “What’s your name again?”
Handing Yu Nan the phone to reply, Yu Nan shyly replied, “It’s me.”
“Are you two that close already? No worries, there’s an empty room,” Bei Yuye agreed.
Yu Nan’s face turned bright red. He blushed easily when embarrassed. He touched his face, feeling it burning.
“Let’s head back to the house now, no need to stay out in the sun,” Milk Tea suggested.
Yu Nan agreed, following him. The house was nearby, just a couple of metro stops away.
Milk Tea said, “Wait a moment, I’ll buy some drinks for a proper celebration.”
Quickly buying the drinks, he took Yu Nan back to the house, which was more spacious than he had imagined.
Remembering that Milk Tea was a big spender in the game and that the junior had similar family circumstances, he thought, indeed, wealthy people are low-key, buying a house near school just to stay on weekends while living in the dorm the rest of the week.
“I forgot to bring clothes,” he realized when led to his room.
Milk Tea waved it off, “No worries, there are new ones.”
“I’m so excited. Besides Bei Yuye, you’re my second friend,” Milk Tea excitedly jumped around, sharing his joy with him.
“Are you short on friends too?” Yu Nan asked.
Milk Tea pointed to himself, “Can’t you tell? I’m bad at socializing. I only dare to be wild online. I’ve known Bei Yuye since we were kids.”
“You don’t seem like someone lacking friends,” Yu Nan remarked honestly.
Milk Tea grinned widely, “Oh? Really?”
Yu Nan recalled their first meeting, “When I first saw you, you seemed scary.”
Milk Tea scratched his head, “Really? The cold demeanor is just my facade. An outstanding me is always subject to jealousy.”
Yu Nan laughed. They logged into the game together, forming a team with others, but only one of them spoke to avoid feedback.
“Milk Tea and Mengmeng together?” The others asked excitedly.
Milk Tea: “Yes, yes!”
Doggo: “Amazing! I’m with kitty!”
Yu Nan: “So, watch the sword is still not an adult yet. Once he is, we can arrange a meetup too.”
They played a few dungeons in the afternoon. With Milk Tea nearby, Yu Nan directly pinched him when he dodged healing, “You’re across from me? How can you run so far?”
Bei Yuye returned to see the senior and Pei Yunchuan huddled together, playing games and having a great time.
Just one day, and they were this close? Also, he knew Pei Yunchuan didn’t like socializing.
“Hey, the deep-feelings guy is here,” Yu Nan looked up and blurted out.
Bei Yuye gritted his teeth secretly. Pei Yunchuan just couldn’t keep his mouth shut, always spilling everything.
“Brother Ye, learn from Brother Yu. He’s very clear-headed in online relationships,” Pei Yunchuan said.
Yu Nan’s eyes widened, incredulous at Milk Tea. Seeing him still smiling and playing, he grabbed a pillow and smothered his face, “If you can’t speak properly, don’t speak at all.”
Bei Yuye looked at Yu Nan, realizing the senior was also in an online relationship?
Yu Nan awkwardly smiled at the junior, “Haha, please don’t tell anyone.”
In his heart, he cursed Milk Tea but outwardly, he smiled and pleaded with Bei Yuye to keep it a secret. He didn’t want people around him knowing about his online relationship.
Seeing no response from the junior, he pleaded again, “Please, don’t tell anyone.”
Bei Yuye nodded, “I won’t say anything.”
Yu Nan gratefully replied, “Thank you.”
“Let’s have dinner. I ordered takeout,” Bei Yuye mentioned, setting the takeout on the table.
They barely started eating when Milk Tea got drunk.
“Drink, Brother Yu, drink, Brother Ye!” He poured drinks into their cups.
“If you love me, drink a sip.”
Yu Nan looked at Bei Yuye, “Is he always like this?”
“Get used to it.” Bei Yuye got a new cup for him, “Let me pour you some soda.”
Yu Nan nodded, “Thanks.”
“It’s my first time seeing Yunchuan bring a friend home,” he said, raising his cup to toast Yu Nan.
Yu Nan also picked up his drink, clinking glasses and downing it in one go, “Really?”
“Oh no, drank the wrong one,” Yu Nan’s face scrunched up, sticking out his tongue in confusion.
His face flushed quickly from drinking, so quickly that Bei Yuye got worried, “Are you okay?”
He felt dizzy. Bei Yuye found dinner challenging, with two drunk people rambling at him.
“My partner is adorable, you know? They call me “brother,'” Yu Nan bragged about Bei Bei to the junior.
Using his hands to gesture, he continued, “They’re like a big golden retriever, obedient and well-behaved.”
“Hahaha, Qingxin brother, hahaha, Shenqing brother,” Milk Tea babbled.
Yu Nan proudly added, “When they cry, they’re super cute. Is your partner as cute as mine?”
Milk Tea echoed, “Is Brother Yu’s partner as cute as mine?”
“Applause, my partner is the cutest!” Yu Nan stomped a foot on the stool, pointing to the ceiling.
Milk Tea clapped excitedly, “Cute, cute!”
Bei Yuye was the only one sober throughout dinner. He didn’t expect the senior to be so wild when drunk.
He ended up dragging the two to their respective rooms, ensuring each was securely tucked in.
Pei Yunchuan was relatively well-behaved, but the senior kept kicking off the blanket.
Yu Nan, eyes wide open, watched Bei Yuye help him cover up, kicking it off as soon as it was in place, enjoying the game.
Seeing the senior’s playful smile, Bei Yuye asked, “Senior, what are you doing?”
“Kicking the blanket,” Yu Nan giggled.
Bei Yuye covered him again, “You can’t kick it.”
Yu Nan, puzzled, kicked again, “Not listening.”
“If you keep kicking the blanket, your partner won’t like you anymore,” Bei Yuye resorted to using his online partner to scare him.
Yu Nan grabbed the blanket and covered himself, “You’re lying.”
Seeing his stubborn but compliant behavior, Bei Yuye thought, who said he was clear-headed in love? He was just as much a hopeless romantic, drunk and full of talk about his partner.
After settling them, he went to wash up, still waiting for a reply from Nannan.
Late at night, Yu Nan woke up thirsty. Groggily, he reached for the light but couldn’t find it, so he got up in the dark.
In the darkness, a phone screen lit up.
He picked it up, squinting at the bright screen.
He rubbed his eyes and opened the message from Bei Bei, immediately initiating a video call.
Bei Bei answered instantly, “Baby, why are you calling so late?”
Yu Nan, head spinning and not fully awake, mumbled, “Water.”
“What?” Bei Bei asked, confused.
Yu Nan stumbled to the door and headed to the living room.
“I’m going to get water, not talking to you,” he said, hanging up the video call.
A loud thud echoed from the living room.
