From a nobody online dating to a top love brain - Chapter 20
Yu Nan minimized the game interface to show the game name to the junior.
Bei Yuye was delighted and immediately went to download the game.
“Once you finish the newbie tutorial, we can play together,” Yu Nan said, then went on to start a ranked match.
The games went smoothly, and with a good feeling, he immersed himself completely in the game, climbing ranks all day.
Bei Yuye was still exploring the game. He found the tutorial quite interesting, and playing with Nan Nan would be even more fun.
He thought about Pei Yunchuan and asked, “What about Pei Yunchuan? Does he play this game?”
Yu Nan, focused on the game, didn’t look up and answered after a moment: “Him? Don’t play with him. No matter what role he plays, he gets criticized after the game. It’s embarrassing.”
“What does ‘criticized after the game’ mean?” Bei Yuye asked sincerely.
Yu Nan continued his actions in the game: “Hmm… it means being scolded. You’ll be criticized if you don’t do well. I’ll stay away from that.”
“Handsome!”
“So ridiculously handsome!”
The crowd around suddenly became restless, and the sound of small claps grew louder. As the music’s prelude began, everyone quieted down.
“There are always some things left unsaid.”
A familiar and unpleasant song filled the air. Yu Nan looked up abruptly.
He turned to the junior: “Did you know he signed up for this?”
Bei Yuye nodded: “He said he wants to win first place.”
Just then, Yu Nan was knocked out of the game, so he immediately started recording Milk Tea’s performance.
“This singing is really bad.”
“But he is really handsome.”
Yu Nan could clearly hear the whispers around. Milk Tea was either very determined or very reluctant to sign up for this event.
Fortunately, he managed to get a spot as an audience member for this event; otherwise, he wouldn’t have heard Milk Tea’s singing.
“Will he be upset if he’s in last place?” Yu Nan asked the junior with a smile, hoping Milk Tea wouldn’t be too disappointed since the event was scored on the spot.
Bei Yuye shrugged: “He doesn’t care. Since elementary school, he’s always signed up for these kinds of performance events as long as they’re held on campus.”
It was clear that Milk Tea had a strong desire to perform and a robust heart to withstand all criticism.
Bei Yuye also started recording, adjusting the angle to ensure the senior was within his frame.
But since the senior was recording Pei Yunchuan, he called out: “Senior.”
As expected, the senior turned around and was perfectly positioned in his frame.
Bei Yuye smiled with satisfaction, clapping a few times and casually said: “Pei Yunchuan is singing, and I’m recording a video of him singing with you.”
Oh, he was just recording. Yu Nan wasn’t used to being on camera, so he flashed a peace sign.
The judges’ scores were in, and Pei Yunchuan unsurprisingly received the lowest score so far.
But there were many girls in the crowd who cheered enthusiastically.
“Do you have a girlfriend? Go to the confession wall and find someone.”
“Now we’re rivals in love!”
“Draw your sword!”
This was one of the ways to pursue love in college—finding someone on the confession wall.
“Has Pei Yunchuan ever been in a relationship?” Yu Nan hadn’t heard Milk Tea mention it, but some people might separate three times from two.
Bei Yuye looked at the video he had just recorded, focusing on the moment he was in the frame with Nan Nan.
Hearing his question, he shook his head: “He’s never been in a relationship. He only loves games and spending money on them.”
Yu Nan sent a message to the group: “Milk Tea participated in the campus singer event and ended up hitting a wrong note.”
Watch the sword: “Who can shake his first place?”
Rain is quietly falling: “No one!
Pei Yunchuan, offstage, immediately checked his phone upon seeing Yu Nan’s message and asked: “Did Brother Yu tell you I was participating? Did you secretly watch and record my performance?”
Yu Nan replied: “Recorded it. Do you want it?”
Watch the sword: “Is it very bad?”
Yu Nan: “He performed normally.”
Pei Yunchuan gave up: “Brother Yu, post it in the group. I sang really well this time. I felt my emotions were on point.”
Yu Nan posted the video in the group. He was far from the stage, so the people on stage were a bit blurry, but the singing was clearly recorded.
Watch the sword: “I heard people next to me complain, saying that if someone is a mute, they have no flaws.”
Rain is quietly falling: “What gave you that illusion? You were off-key the whole time, and your emotions were not on point.”
Pei Yunchuan wasn’t convinced: “You don’t understand. You need to appreciate it carefully.”
With Milk Tea’s singing setting the bar, every subsequent contestant’s singing sounded like heavenly music.
The event ended a bit earlier than planned. Scanning out to sign off, he came over to join them.
“Uh, can I get your contact information?” A girl suddenly approached them and asked him.
Yu Nan couldn’t help but pull Bei Yuye back, feeling uneasy with so many people looking their way.
After Milk Tea finished, Yu Nan slowly walked over.
Yu Nan had rarely experienced being confessed to and still felt goosebumps when he thought back to the time a boy confessed to him.
The boy was tall, stopped him while holding a basketball, and tried to pull him. Fortunately, Chen Feng’an and the others were there.
“Go to Brother Ye’s place. It’s Friday,” Pei Yunchuan said with a smile.
Yu Nan waved to refuse. He didn’t want to keep going to the junior’s place, feeling it might be a hassle for him.
“Go, go,” Pei Yunchuan started to act spoiled.
Yu Nan: “Don’t be unreasonable.”
“Really not going?” Bei Yuye asked: “I just finished downloading the game and was planning to play together tonight.”
Yu Nan still refused: “Not this time. We can play together when you come back.”
The more important reason was that he had a voice chat scheduled with Bei Bei and was the only one in the dorm tonight. The dorm was his sanctuary.
On the way back, he ordered milk tea. After parting ways with Milk Tea and the others, he happily returned to his dorm.
After taking a shower, the milk Tea arrived just in time. He opened the door to bring the milk Tea in, then logged into the game.
Daily tasks weren’t done yet when Dreams are everything invited him to join a team.
As soon as he joined the team, Dreams are everything said urgently: “Milk Tea is getting popular.”
“What? He’s on the red list again?” Yu Nan skeptically commented, knowing that Milk Tea’s flashy behavior in the game and frequent conflicts often led to bounties being placed on him.
Sometimes, people who disliked Milk Tea also included Yu Nan and his friends who played with him in their bounties.
“It’s that video. I came across it,” Dreams are everything said.
Yu Nan continued with his daily tasks: “What video?”
“The one where he’s singing,” Dreams are everything explained.
“I already posted it in the group,” Yu Nan said, momentarily confused.
The phone rang, and he quickly put on his headset to answer.
He had set a specific ringtone for Bei Bei so he could distinguish which calls required a headset and which did not.
“Baby, I love you so much,” was the line he always used. Since he had never been in a relationship before, he didn’t know what else to say.
In the manga and novels he read, couples were always saying “I love you,” so he learned it and only knew this one phrase.
Bei Bei said “I love you” when happy, sad, or even angry, proving it was indeed a versatile phrase.
“Are you listening to me?” Dreams are everything suddenly interjected.
Yu Nan typed in the team chat: “I’m listening.”
“Vacation is coming up. I’m looking forward to the ring,” Bei Bei said excitedly.
Yu Nan was also looking forward to it, especially to seeing Bei Bei in the black fitted turtleneck he had bought. What could they do while wearing that outfit?
“Nan Nan, I saw a video with a bite mark pattern. I like it,” Bei Bei’s voice softened with a plea.
Yu Nan raised an eyebrow and asked, “Where can you bite?”
“Stop it, it’s not me biting,” he said shyly.
Yu Nan immediately understood and pretended to be aloof: “How about on the butt?”
Bei Bei: “You’re shameless.”
Bei Yuye hesitated and suggested, “You could bite on the chest and design a pattern there.”
Yu Nan quickly turned off his phone mic and said to Dreams are everything and the others: “My partner wants a bite mark tattoo. He wants me to bite it, and I’m thinking of doing it on the butt.”
Afterward, he turned the mic back on and comforted Bei Bei: “Anything is fine. I love you so much.”
Kitty: “You haven’t met in person yet, and you’re saying anything is fine.”
Yu Nan typed in the team chat: “I’m really scared of meeting in person. Just thinking about it is terrifying.”
He had many concerns and continued typing: “I’m afraid I won’t be able to express my love as easily when we meet in person.”
Kitty laughed: “Are you afraid he’s ugly?”
Doggo gave a reminder: “Your partner is willing to keep fit, so he should manage his appearance.”
Hearing everyone’s comments, Yu Nan instinctively said: “I’m not very concerned about appearance. As long as he’s not a complete disaster, I can accept him.”
“What? Nan Nan?” What disaster? Is Nan Nan afraid he’s ugly?
Bei Yuye confidently said: “Nan Nan, I’m very handsome. I’ve been praised for my looks since I was young.”
Yu Nan had forgotten to turn off his phone mic and heard Bei Bei’s comment. He turned off the mic and said: “I just heard him say he’s very handsome.”
Doggo hesitated: “It could be confidence… or maybe overconfidence.”
Yu Nan turned the mic back on to respond to Bei Bei: “Yes, you’re very handsome.”
“When are we meeting in person?” Bei Yuye seized the opportunity to ask directly: “How about National Day?”
“Hmm… not a good idea,” Yu Nan declined.
He was anxious, wondering why Bei Yuye suddenly brought up meeting in person so directly.
He typed: “He suddenly brought up meeting in person and asked about National Day.”
“How about we find another holiday?”
“Hmm… not a good idea,” Yu Nan continued to refuse: “I don’t want to talk about this right now. Let’s change the topic. I love you so much.”
Although Bei Yuye felt a bit disappointed, he respected Nan Nan’s wish to avoid the topic, knowing they would have other chances to meet.
“Okay, then do you want to have a video call, Nan Nan?” Bei Yuye asked.
Yu Nan wasn’t keen on frequent video calls, especially when he wasn’t using a camera; it felt like he was freeloading.
“Feels like I’m freeloading from you. Do you think so?” he asked pitifully.
Bei Bei quickly comforted him: “Nan Nan, I let you freeload. No, you’re not freeloading; I’m happy to do it.”
Yu Nan feigned grievance: “But I never turn on my camera, and you always do. Doesn’t it make you uncomfortable?”
“I’m perfectly comfortable, Nan Nan,” Bei Yuye hurriedly reassured him.
Bluetooth from the computer transmitted the accusations from Kitty and the others.
Kitty exclaimed: “What video? Are you having a video call? Yu Yu, don’t be deceived.”
“Didn’t you hear? He’s always persuading the other person to turn on their camera,” Doggo Brother added.
“Don’t do anything bad, Yu Yu,” Kitty shouted in frustration.
Yu Nan typed one last message in the chat box: “I’m logging off. He insists on turning on the camera, and I can’t stop him.”
After closing his computer, he climbed into bed.
“I don’t want to see abs anymore,” he said, having lost interest after seeing too many of them.
Bei Yuye whined: “Then Nan Nan, do you want to see me draw? I’ll finish the painting I started last time.”
Bei Yuye set up his computer, adjusted his phone to capture both his drawing hand and the artwork, as Nan Nan liked watching him draw.
It wasn’t a small trick; it was simply catering to Nan Nan’s preferences.
“Bei Bei, what kind of type do you like?” Yu Nan asked, lying in bed and twirling his hair.
Bei Yuye continued drawing, “I like you.”
“When did you start liking me?” he was always curious about why Bei Yuye had agreed so quickly when first asked.
Bei Yuye blushed and said: “It was when you took me to run dungeons, and someone said they didn’t want my class. You argued with them.”
“You were so cool,” Bei Yuye couldn’t help but praise. They had randomly joined a team to run a dungeon together.
Before the dungeon even started, someone in the team said they didn’t want Bei Yuye’s class and suggested he leave the team.
Nan Nan spoke up for him, saying his damage output was sufficient. The other side even suggested kicking Nan Nan out as well, with rather unpleasant words.
He got so angry that he started cursing, but it was clear his vocabulary was limited, with phrases like “Go to hell” and “Bullshit.”
Thinking back on it, Bei Yuye couldn’t help but laugh. Even though Nan Nan couldn’t argue effectively, he comforted him and told him not to feel inferior.
It was the first time someone had argued with others for him, and he kept playing with him, explaining various game mechanics. He was so kind.
Yu Nan couldn’t help but say “Wow,” remembering that he couldn’t even argue back at the time and was instead filled with pent-up frustration.
He was quite bold in games, but only when familiar people were around. In reality, he was just a big fish in a small pond.
“Bei Bei, you should love me well,” he said with a happy smile.
Bei Yuye really was great. If he didn’t think about the future, he would be happy to continue an online relationship with him.
“Sure, I love you so much,” Bei Yuye started detailing his character.
Drawing was a lengthy process. Yu Nan watched Bei Yuye’s method carefully, noting how detailed and precise his drawing was from start to finish.
His drawing style was the complete opposite of Bei Yuye’s. His sketches were messy, and he preferred to cover large areas with color.
“Bei Bei, why did you study art?” he asked.
Bei Yuye: “Well… because my parents are also art students. Since I can remember, there have always been art supplies around me.”
“Wow, that’s so cool,” Yu Nan said. He had taken up art just to be able to draw colored illustrations and briefly looked down on himself.
Bei Yuye’s parents were very open-minded and had no excessive demands on him. Since he was young, his parents had told him it was okay not to find a partner, as it wasn’t the most crucial thing in life.
But he wanted to find one because his parents’ love made him believe that was the key to life. His parents would paint together, play the piano together, and travel without him.
