From a nobody online dating to a top love brain - Chapter 22
Why they started running, Yu Nan wasn’t sure.
When they finally stopped at the mall entrance, Yu Nan quickly darted out to breathe the fresh air. He touched his forehead; he was drenched in sweat from the heat under the umbrella.
Seeing him wiping his sweat, Kitty realized she was still wearing makeup and immediately signaled to Doggo.
Doggo understood instantly and went to his bag to retrieve her small makeup kit. After handing it to her, he even raised a mirror to help her touch up.
Milk Tea was very pleased with their group umbrella activity: “Our unity was fully demonstrated just now.”
Yu Nan rushed into the mall, feeling the cool air envelop him. Only then did he turn around to see the other three following slowly.
Kitty had just finished touching up her makeup and was now bringing the powder box to him, smiling brightly.
It must have been the mall’s air conditioning, Yu Nan thought, that made Kitty’s smile seem a bit shivery.
“Yu Yu, this is loose powder. Just apply a bit, and your face won’t look oily,” she held up the powder in front of him.
Before Yu Nan could move away, Milk Tea rushed over eagerly: “Give me some too; my face feels oily from sweating.”
Kitty handed the powder box to Doggo, smoothly shifting the topic: “Let’s go have lunch.”
Leaving Milk Tea jumping around behind them.
Yu Nan looked at Kitty placing the order and couldn’t help but suggest: “Add some brown sugar glutinous rice balls.”
Kitty added the glutinous rice balls: “Our Yu Yu is still a kid who likes sweet things.”
“Please don’t talk like that,” Yu Nan buried his head. It was fine to speak like that online, but in person, it was a bit embarrassing.
Kitty passed the tablet around: “If you want anything else, just add it.”
Though surprised by Kitty’s and Doggo’s sudden arrival, Yu Nan wondered how they knew he and Milk Tea were studying here. He asked.
Kitty smiled: “It’s from the videos. Your school was clearly marked. Coincidentally, Doggo and I were heading to the comic convention tomorrow, so we came a day early to surprise you.”
“And guess what? I even got two extra tickets!” Kitty showed her phone to Yu Nan and the others.
Milk Tea was moved to tears: “My sister, you’re my only sister.”
Doggo hugged Kitty’s waist: “Milk Tea, don’t be cheesy. She’s my only treasure.”
Kitty patted Doggo’s head affectionately: “You’re also my only treasure.”
The romance between them had a different vibe, like a classic two-dimensional love story.
Yu Nan, picking up on this, took out his phone and sent a message to Bei Bei: “You are my only treasure.”
Bei Bei responded quickly: “I am your only treasure, so you have to love me well.”
Yu Nan couldn’t help but laugh, already imagining Bei Bei’s voice saying those words.
Kitty asked: “Why are you laughing suddenly?”
Yu Nan answered vaguely: “I feel like my partner has been getting a bit demanding recently.”
“Tell me more,” Kitty, turning into a relationship counselor, prepared to listen.
Yu Nan explained his concern: “I just told him he’s my only treasure.”
Doggo couldn’t help but nudge her: “He’s learning from you.”
Yu Nan ignored him and continued: “He replied saying he’s my only treasure and I should love him well.”
Kitty waited for more but found he had finished. She frowned: “That’s it?”
Yu Nan nodded: “Isn’t that a bit too demanding? He never used to talk like this.”
“What should he say instead?” Kitty asked.
Yu Nan tried to mimic Bei Bei’s old style: “He should say, ‘I really love you,’ something like that.”
Doggo quickly chimed in, resting his head on Kitty’s shoulder: “your partner is pitiful. Even asking for more love is seen as being demanding.”
Yu Nan was annoyed by his comment and grumbled: “You don’t understand.”
They enjoyed their lunch happily, chatting about various topics. Kitty even tried to persuade Yu Nan to wear a little dress.
“Tomorrow, Yu Yu, you should wear the dress I gave you. It’s cute and lovely,” she said excitedly.
Milk Tea asked a probing question: “What dress? Only he has one?”
Kitty hesitated: “Well, we’re going to shop in the mall this afternoon. I’ll pick one out for you too.”
Pei Yunchuan nodded contentedly: “Very good.”
Yu Nan gave him a thumbs up, realizing Milk Tea had a big advantage over him, he had no sense of shame, something he occasionally envied.
After finishing lunch, they went out, and Kitty suggested: “Let’s go shopping. I’ll do your makeup!”
Pei Yunchuan let her words go in one ear and out the other, only joking along.
He raised his hand, excited: “Sounds great!”
Kitty’s favorite shops were those where you could try on makeup. She did a quick makeup trial for Yu Nan and the others, starting with Milk Tea.
Yu Nan felt resigned and closed his eyes, letting her apply makeup on his face. Since she was about his height, he didn’t need to squat.
“This blush is nice and pink, Yu Yu, come here,” she called Yu Nan over.
Pei Yunchuan, with his big white face, asked Doggo: “Aren’t we handsome enough? Why isn’t she doing our makeup?”
Kitty, while applying foundation to him, tied his hair up with a rubber band. His silly face made it hard not to laugh. Doggo picked up a lipstick and started applying it to Milk Tea: “If she’s not doing your makeup, I will.”
Pei Yunchuan was touched: “You’re a good guy, Doggo, even though you scolded me a lot during the game.”
“Shh, don’t bring up sad topics,” Doggo often helped Kitty with makeup. His aesthetic was spot-on as he layered two colors of lipstick, creating a pure and tempting pout for Milk Tea.
Pei Yunchuan looked at himself in the mirror, pouting and carefully examining his reflection: “I look really handsome.”
When Yu Nan caught Pei Yunchuan’s gaze again, Pei Yunchuan couldn’t help but click his tongue. He moved in front of him, examining him from left to right. Despite it just being makeup, Yu Nan looked like a completely different person.
Yu Nan, unable to bear his scrutinizing gaze, covered his face. He felt a thick layer on his face, and he resisted the urge to lick his lips, which were coated with lipstick. He felt somewhat uneasy.
Kitty was very satisfied with his makeup and confidently said, “Once Yu Yu puts on the dress and wig, no one will be able to tell he’s a guy.”
Pei Yunchuan pointed to his own face and asked, “Why does it look no different on me, but he looks so different?”
“I did a full face of makeup for him, specifically designed to make him look more feminine,” Kitty explained.
Yu Nan cautiously approached the mirror, and seeing his reflection still felt a bit shocked. It was both the same and completely different.
He instinctively pressed his lips together. His lips, as he thought, looked shimmering and translucent, something he could never achieve even if he drooled all night.
Kitty went to the store to pick out a dress for Milk Tea and immediately found one she liked. She handed it to him and told him to try it on.
When he emerged from the fitting room in the dress, Yu Nan, who was sitting outside, couldn’t help but be amazed. He couldn’t control himself and clapped his hands.
Milk Tea hadn’t taken down the hair tie yet. He didn’t like the pale lipstick Doggo had applied, so he removed it and put on a more noticeable red. He even applied blush himself, going for a full makeup look.
Seeing his pure and vacant expression, Yu Nan felt guilty and was afraid that looking too long might hurt Milk Tea’s feelings.
Was Pei Yunchuan enjoying wearing the dress? Not really. He was just curious about the allure of dresses, wondering why Bei Bei was so insistent on wearing them.
The four of them left the clothing store and started another round of shopping.
“Um, can I have your contact information?”
Yu Nan often found himself stopped by people while walking with Milk Tea and the others. He quietly shrank behind Kitty.
“Yu Xuedi.”
Had he heard that right? How did his last name come up? Yu Nan felt flustered. Even with such heavy makeup, he was still recognized.
He shrank behind the three, trying to avoid facing the confession. His best strategy was to play dead.
Doggo and the others were tall, so Yu Nan hid behind them like an ostrich.
Chu Luoyang had first met Yu Nan at the start of their sophomore year. To earn some credits, he helped freshmen move in. He had several freshmen assigned to him, and Yu Nan was one of them.
He had given his contact number to the freshmen, promising to help whenever they called. Since the freshmen were unfamiliar with the campus, he also led them to the registration area.
He was waiting at the registration desk for the last freshman’s call when Yu Nan arrived and signed in.
Chu Luoyang glanced over and saw that the name was indeed that of the last freshman he had been waiting for.
He directly asked, “Where is the senior who is supposed to meet you?”
Yu Nan replied coolly, “I can read the map. I don’t need any help.”
Chu Luoyang, amused, got up and took Yu Nan’s suitcase, leading him to the boys’ dormitory.
He walked quickly, and Yu Nan had to jog a few steps. Finally, Yu Nan tugged on his shirt: “Senior, slow down.”
Chu Luoyang’s mood inexplicably softened. Seeing the younger student’s face flushed from the sun, he felt reluctant to leave him behind.
He stubbornly said, “It’s an activity. I’m helping you with your luggage to earn credits.”
“Thank you, Senior.”
The clean and clear voice, like a feather brushing against his heart, made Chu Luoyang tighten his grip on the suitcase.
After that, he kept an eye on Yu Nan from afar. He would occasionally pause when he heard his name or look a little longer if he saw him on the street.
No one knew about his feelings for him, not even himself until later.
Last semester, he had also asked for Yu Nan’s contact information. The scene was similar to now; Yu Nan was hiding behind a group of people, avoiding looking directly at him.
Today, he looked a bit different from usual—his face was whiter, and his cheeks had an unusual flush. Chu Luoyang wondered if he was unwell.
He also had his own issues. Whenever he wanted to ask for contact details, he always did so when Yu Nan was surrounded by people. When he was alone, he felt too shy to approach.
At least when there were many people, if he was rejected, Yu Nan wouldn’t be too embarrassed.
