- Chapter 25 - Tea art master
“You’re Crossdresser No. 1.” Kitty handed a wig to Doggo.
“You’re Crossdresser No. 2.” She gave another wig to Milk Tea.
“And you’re the adorable little cupcake.” she placed a matching bonnet on Yu Yu’s head, finishing it off with a perfect bow tied under his chin.
Yu Nan was handed a pair of gloves, and Kitty told him to put them on.
“Milk Tea, come here.” Kitty was working her way through applying makeup to each of them, complaining, “I feel like I’ll never make it as a makeup artist in this lifetime. Doing this one person at a time is way too stressful.”
Yu Nan carefully pulled on the lace gloves, and after he’d put them on, he stared at his hands, feeling somewhat dazed. This was a guy who normally wouldn’t even dare wear shorts out in public, but now, here he was, wearing a dress and even admiring himself. If it were just him alone, he probably wouldn’t have tried it, but since everyone else was in skirts too, his comfort level naturally increased.
“Why are you wearing pants?” He questioned.
Kitty was dressed in a casual suit and smiled, “Because I’m playing the role of the maidservant’s butler today.”
“Am I a lady too?” Pei Yunchuan shyly asked.
While fixing his eyebrows, Kitty replied, “Of course, you’re a *beautiful* young lady.”
Excited, Pei Yunchuan immediately sent a video call to Bei Yuye. When the call connected, he signaled to Kitty to repeat herself, “What am I?”
“You’re a *beautiful* young lady,” Kitty repeated.
Bei Yuye, seeing Pei Yunchuan in the video, all dressed up in makeup and a skirt, sneered, “You wouldn’t let me wear a dress, but you’re enjoying it just fine.”
“Is that the Deep Voice Guy?” Kitty whispered.
She had heard that voice last night too, realizing now that since Yu Nan wasn’t in the dorms, and Pei Yunchuan hadn’t been with him, it must mean they had met up in person.
Bei Yuye hung up the call, eager to chat with Yu Nan.
**Bei Bei**: Nan Nan hasn’t messaged me in so long; you must be busy, huh?
It was hard for Yu Nan to type while wearing gloves, so he carefully tapped out each letter: **Thinking about you**.
**Bei Bei**: I’m going to get my ears pierced today.
Typing was too slow for Yu Nan, so he quickly took off one glove and typed back: **Why so sudden?**
**Bei Bei**: You once said that characters with lots of ear piercings looked cool in the comics.
**Nan Nan**: Are you going to get that many?
**Bei Bei**: I’ll start with one and see how it feels.
Bei Yuye had already made up his mind—he’d get one piercing at a time and complain about the pain to Nan Nan each night so that he would comfort him. Then, he’d get another one, complain again, and keep getting comforted.
**Bei Bei**: I even had a custom earring made, with engraved letters.
Yu Nan didn’t know what to say. Bei Bei always used the same two letters for his engravings. With the upcoming holiday break, he reminded him: **Have you booked your ticket home?**
**Bei Bei**: Someone’s picking me up, vroom vroom.
Yu Nan felt reassured, his only worry being that Bei Bei wouldn’t make it home for National Day, delaying their video chats.
“Oh my god, I’m a gorgeous queen!” Pei Yunchuan stood up and twirled lightly.
His wig was a sharp, golden short cut, and he had finally gotten his wish of wearing bright red lipstick. Paired with his long white dress, everything was a strange contrast, yet it all worked harmoniously.
You could immediately tell he was crossdressing, but he managed to look both handsome and beautiful.
Yu Nan was fidgeting with his hands, debating whether to send a picture of himself in the dress to Bei Bei. It was rare for him to wear a dress, and it seemed like Bei Bei wouldn’t mind. Besides, all semester it had been Bei Bei who turned on his camera; he hadn’t even sent him a photo yet.
Bei Bei messaged him again, so he opened it. It was a picture of him holding two steamed buns.
**Bei Bei**: I’m heading out, bought breakfast.
Yu Nan laughed at how Bei Bei’s hands took up more space in the photo than the buns themselves, teasing him: **Still playing hard to get?**
The elegant fingers dominated half the photo, with the buns squeezed into his palm. Who would take such a picture unless they had a hidden agenda?
**Bei Bei**: Don’t call me out! It’s my little trick.
Yu Nan smiled silently. Doggo noticed and asked, “Talking to the Soft Voice?”
“The what?” Pei Yunchuan asked.
“My online crush,” Yu Nan explained.
“Why do you call him Soft Voice?”
Of course, because Bei Bei had that soft voice! Silently, Yu Nan muttered, “Why do you ask so many questions?”
**Bei Bei**: I miss you so much! I’m so clingy; what should I do?
**Bei Bei**: I’m getting my ears pierced. Do you think it’ll hurt? Please pamper me.
Where did he even pick up these lines? It felt like a half-baked attempt at flirting, like he had learned it but didn’t quite master it. You could tell he was trying to be flirty, but it came off a little awkward.
Yu Nan didn’t want him to keep learning from the wrong places: **Talk properly.**
**Bei Bei**: I know you’re obsessed with me.
Yu Nan tried to relax his furrowed brows. He couldn’t get mad—this was his boyfriend, after all. Bei Bei was probably saying all this just to make him happy. He just hadn’t learned how to do it well yet.
“Yu Yu, put on these heels.” Kitty placed a pair of shoes on the floor.
Yu Nan wobbled as he slipped into them. Standing up straight, he suddenly felt like his field of vision had expanded.
“Five-centimeter heels! Today, we’re an 180cm squad.” Kitty opened her camera and motioned for everyone to gather around.
After taking the photo, she looked at it and couldn’t help but comment, “Yu Yu’s face is so small.”
Yu Nan, struggling to walk in heels, swayed unsteadily. He could only take tiny steps as he slowly made his way around.
After arriving at the venue, they were greeted by a sea of colorful hair. Pei Yunchuan, like a monkey off its leash, started to run wild.
Yu Nan easily got nervous in crowds, so he stayed close behind Kitty.
Even though Kitty was dressed casually, she wore an unusual wine-red wolf tail wig. To match the wig, she had applied heavy cosplay makeup, leaning towards a masculine look.
She was very satisfied with her height and broad shoulders. When cosplaying male characters, she could pull it off effortlessly. As long as she looked pretty enough, there would be plenty of adorable little “cakes” wanting to get close to her.
“Milk Tea, close your legs,” Yu Nan said.
Milk Tea insisted on wearing high heels after they left the house, so they had to buy a pair of ultra-thin heels at a store. Now he was walking unsteadily, like a crab, bending their legs as they moved.
Yu Nan truly admired him for not caring at all about what others thought.
“Miss, could I get a photo with you?”
Yu Nan looked down. Now this was a real little girl. She wore a navy blue Lolita dress with a matching headband.
“Should I squat down a bit?” Yu Nan slowly squatted down, his shoes unsteady, feeling like he might twist his ankle at any moment.
After hearing his voice, the navy blue little girl realized she had addressed him wrong. Embarrassed, she said, “Sorry, brother! I couldn’t tell at all.”
“Your dress is very pretty,” Yu Nan added. “And you’re pretty too.”
“Thank you, you’re pretty as well,” the navy blue little girl responded, glancing at the photo she had taken with satisfaction. This brother was indeed very beautiful.
Before leaving, she specifically asked, “Is it okay if I post this on social media?”
Yu Nan didn’t mind. After all, they all said he looked completely different in the dress than he usually did, so he nodded.
Afterward, a few more girls, all dressed in Lolita outfits, came over to get photos.
As noon approached, Kitty spoke up, “Want to play some ranked matches?”
The four of them found a corner and squatted down. Once Yu Nan grouped with Kitty and Doggo, Pei Yunchuan quietly said, “You all know I’m only at tier two, right?”
Yu Nan started matchmaking and encouraged him, “Come on, you really need to improve.”
“If you don’t get better, who else will put up with you?” Doggo teased as he banned a character.
Kitty picked her character and said, “You’d climb tiers if you played more. I won’t even mention that 5.88% win rate of yours.”
Pei Yunchuan also started matchmaking. His rank wasn’t high enough to play with the others anymore. Though they’d all started playing together, he had been stuck at tier two for years, likely because he didn’t play much and refused to get a booster.
Yu Nan’s game wasn’t even halfway through when one of their teammates, a random player, got knocked out immediately. Yu Nan commented, “Get ready for post-match trash talk.”
They managed to tie the game by luck.
They queued up again, and this time Doggo made a mistake and got knocked out early. Yu Nan said, “There are no friendships in esports. If you’re bad, you need to practice.”
Another lucky tie.
Yu Nan refused to believe they couldn’t win. They started another match, and this time Yu Nan was the first to get knocked out. He sighed, “What a formidable opponent.”
In the next match, he sacrificed himself at the gate, and they managed to win with three survivors.
It was an exhilarating session. He stood up and looked over at Pei Yunchuan, who was still staring at his screen. “What are you doing?” he asked.
“I’m looking at the post-match chat. They’re all flaming the Seer. Even the hunter chimed in,” Pei Yunchuan said.
Though Yu Nan often talked about post-match trash talk, he had never actually insulted anyone after a game because he didn’t have the nerve.
“Is there someone with worse gameplay than you?” Doggo laughed.
Pei Yunchuan looked up at them and said with a bitter smile, “The Seer was me.”
Yu Nan, Doggo, and Milk Tea exchanged knowing smiles.
The day’s activities wrapped up quickly. They toured the convention, had a farewell meal together, and then Yu Nan and Milk Tea saw Kitty and Doggo off at the high-speed rail station. When they hugged Yu Nan goodbye, his body stiffened. He had only ever seen farewell hugs in TV dramas.
“What do we do with our clothes?” he asked, holding his original clothes in confusion. He was still wearing the dress and wasn’t sure where to change back.
Pei Yunchuan said, “Just change back at the dorm.”
He was incredulous. “You mean we’re going back to school dressed like this?”
Had he heard wrong, or did Pei Yunchuan misspeak?
“Yeah, it looks amazing!” Pei Yunchuan spun around, lifting the hem of his dress.
Yu Nan made up his mind. As soon as they got off the subway, he would find a restroom to change out of the dress before heading back to school. Let Pei Yunchuan show off by himself.
But things never go as planned. When the subway doors opened, a tall figure blocked his view and then walked past him to sit down next to Milk Tea.
It was his junior and dorm mate, Bei Yuye!
He lowered his head as much as he could, not daring to look up. He frantically messaged Pei Yunchuan: “Don’t tell him I’m wearing a dress, I’m begging you.”
Meanwhile, Pei Yunchuan had already started chatting with Bei Yuye. He shifted aside, ready to show off Yu Nan’s new look, only to be fiercely elbowed by him.
