Beibei: “But I haven’t gotten home yet.”
As soon as Yu Nan got home, he locked the door. Unexpectedly, Beibei wasn’t home yet.
“Alright.” He sighed and then turned on his computer to gather the others for a dungeon run.
“Do you want to see me?” Beibei asked sweetly.
The camera turned on, and Yu Nan saw half of Beibei on screen, his silhouette dimly lit, with occasional warm light flickering on his figure.
It was clear Beibei was still in the car. Yu Nan turned on his camera too, showing half of his body.
“Are you going to play a game?” Beibei asked innocently.
Yu Nan nodded. “Yes.”
“Look at my earring, it’s all shiny. Once I get home, I can switch to that custom one.” Bei Yuye moved closer to the window, using the streetlights outside to show off his earring.
“Such a show-off.”
Yu Nan then heard a cold voice, not belonging to Beibei: “Who dares to talk like that about our Beibei?”
“It’s my big brother from home. He’s giving me a ride back. He’s a bit fierce, so I don’t talk to him much,” Beibei said, pretending to be pitiful.
Yu Nan: “Aren’t you speaking so loudly right now? He can probably hear everything you’re saying.”
“Oh no, Beibei is such a little fool. I should’ve said it quietly. What if he gives me a hard time later?” Bei Yuye exaggerated, trying to trigger Yu Nan’s protective instincts.
On screen, Yu Nan sat cross-legged on his chair, his hands flying across the keyboard.
His dear Nannan—how could he not love him more?
“Please get out of my car right now. I’ll show you what giving you a hard time looks like,” Song He couldn’t take it anymore.
He deserved this. Why did it have to be on his route? His ears had been tortured by Beibei’s squeaky voice for over half an hour now.
“Ah, Nannan, Beibei’s about to get kicked out of the car.”
“Then you should just zip it,” Yu Nan said, realizing his tone was harsh, and added, “Let’s stop talking for now, alright?”
“But Beibei wants to chat with you.”
“Well, then keep going?” Yu Nan was focused on the game. This opponent was terrible, couldn’t even tell left from right, and kept jumping onto the wrong platform.
After the dungeon run was done, Beibei’s car door opened on his end, and Yu Nan glanced at the screen.
“Ta-da! This is my home.” Bei Yuye stepped back, showing the front door on camera.
Then he raised his phone, pointing to a specific spot: “my room is over there.”
Before Yu Nan could see anything, the screen shook as Beibei exclaimed happily, “The ring has arrived! I’m going to get it first.”
Beibei grabbed all the packages and rushed upstairs, spreading them out on the table while adjusting the camera to unbox them.
Carefully, he opened the ring box, unable to hide his excitement. The ring was simple, without any design, and had an engraving of his last name on the inside.
He slid the ring onto his finger—it fit perfectly.
This was the ring Nannan had given him, a ring that belonged only to him.
“Let me see,” Yu Nan asked.
Bei Yuye brought his hand close to the screen. His slender ring finger was adorned with a silver, plain band. The bones and veins on the back of his hand were prominent, a deliberate pose for effect.
Yu Nan loved Beibei’s hands. If those hands were wrapped around his throat… he’d be in heaven.
“You could wear more accessories on your hands,” he suggested. Hands that beautiful could carry anything and make it look even better.
“I’ll only wear this ring. I love it,” Bei Yuye gently kissed the ring. It was a token of their love.
“Where’s your ring?” He asked.
Yu Nan dodged the question. Did he need to buy a ring now?
“Nannan, look! This is my acceptance letter.” Bei Yuye gave him a heads-up, having brought his college acceptance letter back.
From a distance, Yu Nan glanced at the familiar color scheme of the letter. When he looked closer, it hit him—this was his school.
“Your grades must be pretty good,” he commented, sounding deflated.
He must be going crazy. How could Beibei end up at the same school as him?
Bei Yuye giggled. “Not bad, but my art score was higher.”
Yu Nan quickly changed the subject: “Beibei, actually, I’m just a vocational student at a private college. I never liked studying, so I ended up in art school.”
Bei Yuye was stunned. This wasn’t going according to the script—wasn’t Nannan supposed to be surprised and say how coincidental it was that they were at the same school?
“My school’s a few provinces away from yours. It’s really far,” Yu Nan added, piling on the lies.
Bei Yuye was silent for a long time before managing to say: “Huh?”
“I’m so envious. You’ll never understand the pain of paying twelve bucks just for shipping,” Yu Nan sighed dramatically.
“It’s fine. I’ll visit your city in person then.”
Yu Nan: “You can’t. My place is too remote. Once a guy like you shows up, you won’t be able to leave. You’ll be forced to stay as a live-in son-in-law, and I wouldn’t want to hold you back.”
Beibei remained silent for a while, hesitating to speak.
“Are you hesitating?” Yu Nan asked.
“Uh… Nannan, you know the game shows locations, right?” Beibei whispered.
A wave of awkwardness hung in the air. Neither of them spoke for what felt like an eternity, each second stretching out painfully.
Yu Nan’s mind went blank. Excuses raced through his thoughts, but no one said a word.
Finally, with less and less confidence, he mumbled, “I was just testing you.”
“Where’s the shirt I bought for you? Go try it on!” He suddenly remembered that he had bought a shirt along with the ring and quickly changed the subject, pretending the previous conversation had never happened.
As Beibei went to find the shirt, Yu Nan quickly posted in the group chat: *My boyfriend goes to our school.*
Kitty: *Why are all your online friends people close to you? First, it was that senior, now this childhood buddy.*
Doggo: *Are you going to meet in person?*
Yu Yu: *Am I going crazy? Meeting in person? I wouldn’t!*
Yu Yu: *I told him we were separated by a few provinces and it’d be inconvenient, but he said the game shows the location.*
Kitty: *You jerk, just give him an official title.*
Yu Nan suddenly remembered Beibei had videos of him. Now he was starting to panic. Before, the distance gave him a sense of security. But now, knowing they were at the same school, he was scared.
He was worried about running into him by accident—what if he got found out?
He had his pride, but what if Beibei didn’t care?
“Beibei, can you delete all the videos of us chatting?” He asked seriously.
Beibei responded: “Why?”
“I feel like what we’ve been doing isn’t right,” he wanted to nip the problem in the bud.
Beibei: “But we’re a couple, that’s normal!”
Yu Nan didn’t care. Just thinking about the possibility of running into Beibei at school shattered his heart: “Delete the recordings. Show me in five minutes.”
“But I like them,” Beibei said, starting to fidget.
Yu Nan replied firmly, “If you don’t delete them properly, I’ll unfriend you.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll delete them!” Beibei panicked at the mention of unfriending. He quickly created a collection and deleted everything with one click, even clearing out his cloud storage.
He also pulled out a USB drive from his drawer, opened his computer, and deleted everything off it too.
With just one command from Yu Nan, he surrendered all his cards.
“It’s all clean now, not a single one left,” he said, sounding teary.
Yu Nan reassured him, “What you did is right. You can’t leave any evidence for others, you know?”
“Didn’t I send you something before? Did you save it?” Beibei recalled sending a video while showering last time.
Yu Nan had saved it in his album. He didn’t want to leave any evidence for others, but it was better for him to have some evidence himself.
He didn’t want to lie to Beibei: “I saved it.”
“Did you delete it?”
“I didn’t delete it.”
“Please don’t delete it! If you miss me, just go watch the video!” Beibei exclaimed, almost in tears.
Yu Nan began to doubt the authenticity of Beibei’s acceptance letter. How could someone with such a mindset end up at the same school as him?
“Fine, I won’t delete it,” he replied.
“August 18, 2024. Nannan, do you remember what happened that day?” Beibei felt a pang in his heart.
“I remember.” Yu Nan didn’t remember at all.
“You tell me.”
“I don’t remember.”
Beibei felt slapped in the face by the quick turn of events. “August 20, 2024. Nannan, do you remember what happened then?”
“I remember.” Yu Nan didn’t remember again.
“You tell me.”
“I don’t remember.” Another slap to the face. Yu Nan lowered his head, thinking he would just say he didn’t remember next time.
Beibei, determined to drive his point home, finally said: “So Nannan, you can’t delete those videos. They’re proof of our love. When we get married in the future, we’ll play them on a big screen.”
Yu Nan was stunned, completely caught off guard by Beibei’s words. He couldn’t keep up with his thinking.
Who plays that kind of video at a wedding? That silly Beibei.
“Uh… Beibei, could you show me your acceptance letter again?” He was convinced that the letter must be fake.
Beibei pulled it out, and Yu Nan quickly said, “Just show me the content. Don’t let me see any personal info.”
He bit his lip and looked closely, realizing they were in the same department.
Their dorms were divided by department, so they might have run into each other countless times already. He couldn’t help but tug at his hair in frustration.
“We’re really close! Our school is in the same province!” Beibei said sweetly.
“Beibei, listen to my thoughts.”
“Mm-hmm, Beibei is listening.”
“Let’s wait a few years before we meet in person.” Yu Nan started with a timeline: “At least until I have a stable job.”
“Ah?”
Yu Nan began painting a rosy future: “Once we have stable jobs, can’t we have our own little home?”
“Yes!”
“And when we’re older and stable, can’t we meet each other’s parents?”
“Yes!”
“So let’s wait until we’re stable to meet in person,” Yu Nan delivered his final blow.
“But I don’t want to wait that long to meet.”
“Silly Beibei, I actually prefer older guys,” Yu Nan recalled the PUA techniques he had read about yesterday.
“I’m not young!”
“But you’re the most special one. I can overlook your age and date you, but I still prefer mature men around twenty-five or twenty-six.”
“So when you’re twenty-five or twenty-six, meeting in person will be just right,” Yu Nan concluded logically.
