- Chapter 3 - No one is holding you back
A night of good dreams, and the dorm’s air conditioning was at the perfect temperature.
Yu Nan turned over comfortably and continued to sleep. It was Saturday with no classes, so he was relaxed.
When he woke up from his nap, it was already past eleven. He opened the school’s food delivery app and ordered lunch.
The blanket was so comfortable. He rubbed his face against the cool surface of the blanket. He struggled for a full ten minutes before breaking free from his sleepiness to wash up.
Bei Yuye returned to the dorm just as he finished washing up. They exchanged a simple greeting.
He put down his bag and touched his tattoo through his clothes. He had discovered a gym on campus yesterday and immediately got a membership card.
Yesterday, he just took a quick look, but this morning he found that the equipment was very complete. He had to maintain the physique that Nannan liked.
Yu Nan happily opened the “Seven Fairies” chat group, but Milk Tea probably wasn’t awake yet, otherwise, he would have gone wild in the group.
Watch the sword: What did I miss yesterday? Why is everyone calling him Peipei?
Yu Nan replied: Is your high school not strict about phone checks?
Watch the sword: A true hero shouldn’t be confined by rules.
Watch the sword: One should place oneself at the pinnacle of freedom.
Right after sending that message, Watch the sword changed his tone.
Watch the sword: But in the next class with the homeroom teacher, even heroes must yield.
Yu Nan laughed and switched to his small account to chat with Beibei.
His main account was for real-life connections, while the small account was for game friends, including Beibei.
Of course, the “Seven Fairies” were all on his main account because, back then, there were no distinctions between main and small accounts on Green Bubble.
Beibei’s messages were as many as ever.
Beibei: Get up and have breakfast.
Beibei: Secretly working hard.
Beibei: Missing you a bit.
Beibei: I’m back in the dorm.
He finished reading Beibei’s stream of messages.
Nannan: Missing you too.
Beibei: Today, I love you even more.
Yu Nan quite enjoyed these daily exchanges of love.
The dorm door opened, and Chen Feng’an’s loud voice filled the room: “I brought you guys some food!”
He laid out the goodies on the table and started distributing the desserts.
“One for Nannan, one for Xiao Ye, one for Old Li, and one for me…”
He went through a few more rounds before finishing.
“New store, big discounts,” he said cheerfully.
Yu Nan replied, “Thanks, Brother Chen.”
Bei Yuye, thinking it wouldn’t be polite to refuse since he was new to the dorm, also thanked him.
Just then, Li Muyang returned and saw the pile of little cakes on the table: “Whoa! Thanks, kind soul!”
“The kind soul’s name is Chen,” Yu Nan said.
Li Muyang patted Chen Feng’an’s shoulder and then thought: “Wait, why did you buy so much?”
Chen Feng’an had been waiting for someone to ask. He proudly raised his chin: “Wanwan bought it and asked me to share it with you.”
“She said you wouldn’t bully me if you had food from her,” he said with a shy smile.
Yu Nan changed his thanks: “Then thank you, Sister-in-law.”
Chen Feng’an looked at Bei Yuye and asked: “Xiao Ye, do you have a partner?”
He nodded without hesitation: “Yes.”
Chen Feng’an thought it made sense. The junior was tall and handsome; girls loved that. The chances of him being single were slim.
“Are you working out, junior?” He asked.
Bei Yuye: “Yes.”
Chen Feng’an gave him a thumbs-up: “Your physique is great.”
Yu Nan silently thought to himself that he, too, had a physically fit online partner.
Chen Feng’an took the initiative to ask: “Xiao Ye, what games do you play?”
As the dorm leader, he hoped the junior would quickly integrate into the dorm, and games were a quick way to bond.
Bei Yuye named a game, which Chen Feng’an hadn’t played.
“Do you only play that?” He asked.
Bei Yuye nodded: “Yes.”
It was the game that brought him and his beloved together.
Chen Feng’an gave up on the idea of bonding over games but added: “But Nannan plays that game. Our Nannan loves playing games. You two could add each other and play together.”
Li Muyang also nodded: “Yes, yes, he often gets very vocal while playing.”
Yu Nan felt like crying but waved his hands: “I’m not, I didn’t.”
Bei Yuye explained for him: “Senior Yu plays a different game of the same type.”
Chen Feng’an knew that Yu Nan dabbled in all sorts of games: “Nannan flits from flower to flower, trying a bit of everything.”
Yu Nan bowed his head: “But the game Xiao Ye mentioned, I haven’t played in a long time. I was most into it last summer when the server opened.”
The topic quickly moved on. They chatted about other random things, and Yu Nan’s delivery arrived. He quietly sat at the table to eat.
Milk Tea woke up and started attacking everyone in the group indiscriminately.
Milk Tea: @Big Fish How did you know my surname is Pei?
Milk Tea: @Kitty Are you happy now?
Milk Tea: @Mengmeng I’ve become timid!
Milk Tea: @Yuyu I’ve become cowardly!
Milk Tea: @Doggo I’ve become anxious and paranoid!
Milk Tea: @ Watch the sword Are you all happy now?
Milk Tea: I’m crying, I’m sad.
Yu Nan replied, How are your roommates?
Milk Tea: ???
Doggo: Change your ID online. I’ll be “King of Sycophants,” and you can be “King of Rabid Dogs.”
Doggo: I flatter everyone indiscriminately, and you bite everyone indiscriminately.
Milk Tea remembered his roommates’ complaints when he woke up and quietly asked: How did you all know?
Doggo: If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it.
Milk Tea sent a long string of voice messages, which Yu Nan and the others were used to by now.
He then shared his real-time location.
Milk Tea: I’m going to assassinate you all.
Yu Nan was about to share his location when he noticed it had already ended.
Big Fish: Did you close it so quickly because you were afraid we would assassinate you?
Milk Tea: A friend called and asked me out.
Doggo: You still have friends?
Milk Tea: Thanks for asking. Let me show you my intimate conversation with my friend.
Milk Tea typed to his friend, Brother, I miss you.
But a red exclamation mark appeared?
He took a screenshot and posted it in the group.
Milk Tea: Thanks for asking. I really don’t have friends.
Yu Nan was amused and looked at the last message Milk Tea sent to his friend. It was a voice message from late last night, which matched the timing.
Big Fish: Was the last message you sent him your singing?
Milk Tea switched back to his friend’s chat and converted the voice message to text.
The most fearful thing is a sudden concern from a friend.
He took another screenshot.
Milk Tea: Yes, you’re right.
Doggo: Smiling faintly.
Kitty: Smiling faintly.
Yu Nan finished the conversation, still smiling. However, he had things to do this afternoon; he needed to go to the supermarket to buy some stuff. Although he didn’t want to go out, he picked up his finished takeaway and headed out.
“Nannan, are you going out?” Li Muyang asked.
Yu Nan replied, “Yes.”
Chen Feng’an said, “Stay safe.”
He smiled wryly: “I know.”
It might be because of his appearance. Chen Feng’an and the others had said before that their first impression of him was that he looked weak and unable to take care of himself.
Even though he was 178 cm tall.
There was a small supermarket on campus, but it was small, so he chose to go to the one outside the south gate.
The dorm building was near the south gate, and the street was just outside, so it wasn’t far.
He mainly wanted to buy some snacks to munch on while reading comics.
The September sun was fierce, and even the wind that brushed against his skin was hot. After walking just a few steps, he was sweating.
He planned to buy his snacks quickly and also grabbed a few bottles of drinks.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a familiar figure. He looked up and met a pair of dark eyes. His first reaction was to look down, but then he thought it would be awkward to look away immediately after making eye contact.
They were dorm mates, not enemies, so he should greet him.
He took a deep breath and looked up: “Junior, are you out shopping too?”
Bei Yuye had a friend with him, and Yu Nan couldn’t help but think that, as expected, handsome guys have handsome friends.
Two broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted, long-legged guys were eye-catching wherever they went.
He watched Bei Yuye walk closer until he stopped at a socially appropriate distance.
Bei Yuye asked, “What did you say, Senior? I didn’t hear you.”
Yu Nan screamed internally. He shouldn’t have greeted him. Repeating it was even more awkward.
“I just thought it was a coincidence and wanted to say hi,” he said, his fingers unconsciously fidgeting with the shopping basket.
Bei Yuye: “Oh.”
Yu Nan’s smile was forced. It was indeed awkward.
They should probably go their separate ways now, but Bei Yuye and his friend hadn’t moved, and he didn’t dare to either.
It was Bei Yuye’s friend who broke the ice: “Senior, your voice sounds familiar.”
“Oh? Really?” But I don’t recognize your voice, Yu Nan thought to himself, almost in tears.
Bei Yuye’s friend carefully compared the voice, finding it familiar but unable to pinpoint it. He hesitated and said, “Maybe it sounds like a friend’s voice?”
Bei Yuye couldn’t help but laugh, “You have friends?”
Seeing that they were about to start chatting, Yu Nan turned around first: “I’ll go buy my things. You guys have fun.”
He left behind a cool and handsome senior back. He felt proud of himself.
Beibei: Baby, I’m at the supermarket.
Beibei: Can we video call tonight?
Beibei: A voice call is fine too.
Bei Yuye hadn’t talked to Nannan for a long time; they had been chatting by text recently.
He thought for a moment and sent a voice message, ignoring his friend’s disdainful look.
“Disgusting,” Pei Yunchuan said, pretending to shiver.
Bei Yuye’s voice returned to its usual coldness: “No one talks to you like that.”
“But I must say, your senior’s voice is really familiar,” Pei Yunchuan said, trying to recall who it sounded like.
A sudden realization hit him, and he exclaimed: “It sounds like a friend of mine!”
Bei Yuye ignored his friend’s excitement and continued sending voice messages: “Baby, is that okay? It’s fine if you’re busy.”
Pei Yunchuan felt nauseous thinking about how he even got a tattoo for his online lover. He thought his friend was hopeless.
“Hopeless romantic,” he muttered.
Bei Yuye heard it and sent another voice message to his lover: “My friend just praised me.”
A true romantic doesn’t consider being called a hopeless romantic an insult. He only saw it as a compliment for loving Nannan deeply.
Pei Yunchuan was frustrated: “I didn’t praise you.”
“Okay, baby!” Bei Yuye ignored him and continued chatting with Nannan.
Pei Yunchuan angrily typed in his chat group: Everyone’s gone crazy.
Watch the sword: Have you finally gone crazy?
Milk Tea: It’s that friend of mine.
Big Fish: The one who blocked you?
Pei Yunchuan sullenly typed: Yes, him.
Milk Tea: He used to be so aloof. Just imagine.
Milk Tea: An 188 cm tall, handsome guy who excelled in sports, academics, and games.
Milk Tea: Oh, and he’s rich like me.
Big Fish: So you’re the rich kid hanging around cool guys?
Milk Tea: Shh, I know you all love me, but this time the main character is my friend.
Doggo: Okay, rich kid.
Milk Tea: He fell in love online.
Milk Tea: The root of all evil is a warm encounter!
Milk Tea: I never thought he would fall in love online and become a hopeless romantic.
Big Fish: Interesting. Any recommendations for similar stories @Mengmeng @Yuyu
Milk Tea: ???
Milk Tea: Have you gone crazy too?!
