From a nobody online dating to a top love brain - Chapter 41
On their way back to school, Yu Nan once again stopped in front of Pei Yunchuan’s dormitory. Bei Yuye asked, “Aren’t you from the School of Arts?”
Yu Nan waved his hand dismissively. “Oh, I just wanted to have something in common with you; I didn’t actually study art in high school.”
He felt that he was truly sick; even now, he was still lying. He was also frustrated with his personality—he had kissed Bei Yuye, but he still didn’t want to face reality.
Bei Yuye hesitated, wanting to grab his senior but ultimately stopped his actions.
Yu Nan pulled Pei Yunchuan into the dormitory, and as soon as they entered, Pei Yunchuan asked, “What are you thinking right now?”
“I feel really bad; I’m just leading him on,” Yu Nan admitted, recognizing that his behavior was problematic. He felt conflicted.
Pei Yunchuan felt overwhelmed. On one side was his friend, and on the other, the same friend. He felt guilty for deceiving Bei Yuye.
After changing his clothes, Yu Nan returned to his dormitory. His junior was sitting quietly at the desk, lost in thought, and didn’t greet him as usual.
He walked straight to the desk, opened his computer, and logged into a game. It had been a long time since he played it with his junior, and now he couldn’t even play it in front of him.
He needed to sort out his relationship with his junior. He knew he was being overly complicated; anyone he told would think the fault lay with him. He was unwilling to be direct with Bei Yuye and also didn’t want to let him go.
With a long sigh, he made up his mind to clarify things this week. After motivating himself, he quickly joined the game guild to chat.
Rain is falling quietly: Here I come!
Watch the sword: I’m coming too!
Doggo: Just playing casually; I’m about to log off with Kitty.
Doggo: The signal isn’t great; it keeps lagging.
Bei Yuye watched as his senior returned and immediately started playing the game, feeling even worse. He was putting on a serious face, yet his senior didn’t bother to ask him anything.
Was he that unworthy? He was right there, under his senior’s nose, yet his senior didn’t want to confront the fact that he was his online boyfriend.
Yu Nan rapidly tapped the keyboard, shifting the game’s perspective: “Can you fragile fools come closer to me? Please treasure my skills!”
His senior was having fun with his friends, not even thinking about the fact that there was someone being deceived. That high school student was someone he had noticed too; he was also his senior’s online friend.
But that high school student should not be one of his senior’s other online romantic interests because at the amusement park, that high school student treated his senior the same way he treated everyone else. Pei Yunchuan wouldn’t let Yu Nan be deceived like that.
Pei Yunchuan wouldn’t, right?
It was he who told him that Yu Nan was going to meet that high school student, and Pei Yunchuan knew he was Yu Nan’s online boyfriend. Pei Yunchuan knew too much!
Bei Yuye: That senior in my dorm.
Pei Yunchuan: Which senior?
Pei Yunchuan: I’m playing a game, but I died too many times, so he kicked me. Hurry up and get him to invite me back to the team.
Bei Yuye: My online boyfriend.
Pei Yunchuan: What does your online boyfriend have to do with that senior?
Bei Yuye: You were calling him “Yu Yu” at the amusement park; I’m not deaf.
Pei Yunchuan’s fingers froze on the keyboard. He hadn’t changed his wording, and sensing the situation was going south, he rushed to warn Yu Nan: “Why are you still playing the game? Your boyfriend already knows you’re his online boyfriend.”
Bei Yuye: So what about that high school student?
Pei Yunchuan: He only has you as his online boyfriend; you’re still his first love.
Bei Yuye: Why isn’t he meeting me in person?
Pei Yunchuan went silent, pretending not to respond. This was a mess of Yu Nan’s own making, and he had to deal with it himself.
Bei Yuye: Are you going to complain again?
Pei Yunchuan felt utterly defeated. As a friend, he had indeed helped Yu Nan a bit too much. He felt guilty, so he got up and drank two bottles of beer from the cupboard. He was truly drunk and decided not to get involved anymore.
After Yu Nan logged off from the game, he saw the messages Pei Yunchuan had sent. He immediately called him. As soon as the call connected, he heard Pei Yunchuan singing: “Give me… a cup… to forget…”
He quickly hung up, but his junior next to him didn’t seem to notice anything unusual. Could it be that Pei Yunchuan was just trying to scare him because he kicked him out of the team?
Nan Nan: Are you back at the dorm?
Bei Bei: Pei Yunchuan told me everything.
Yu Nan felt a chill run down his spine and didn’t dare to look at Bei Yuye.
The two inexplicably fell into a cold war, ignoring each other. Yu Nan didn’t have an early class on Monday, and Bei Yuye started military training today.
With the pressure of the situation weighing on him, Yu Nan woke up unusually early. After Bei Yuye left, he rolled over to grab his phone. He had messed up; he was the one to blame, and even his junior was ignoring him now.
Chu Luoyang: Want to grab breakfast together?
Yu Nan: If your boyfriend were giving you the cold shoulder, what would you do?
Chu Luoyang: Are you asking me???
Chu Luoyang: I’d advise breaking up.
Yu Nan: You just know how to eat; I’d block him.
Yu Nan reviewed the chat history with him. After returning to school from the National Day holiday, Chu Luoyang had been sending him three messages a day: “Want to grab breakfast together? Want to grab lunch together? Want to grab dinner together?”
It was evident that he had a regular eating schedule, but he always replied too late. Today, he must have been out of his mind to ask him.
Yu Nan unblocked him, deciding to go out for breakfast and then secretly watch his junior during military training.
Yu Nan: Which cafeteria are you at?
Chu Luoyang: The first floor of the second cafeteria!
Yu Nan tidied himself up and headed out directly. At this time, the cafeteria was sparsely populated. From a distance, he saw Chu Luoyang waving at him and walked over silently.
Chu Luoyang opened with, “Break up.”
“What?” Yu Nan realized that he was still talking about the cold war. He retorted angrily, “Come up with a better idea!”
Chu Luoyang pouted. “I don’t want to.”
“Want to check out the freshmen during military training? I heard this year’s handsome guys are plentiful,” Yu Nan said sincerely.
Chu Luoyang didn’t reply. Yu Nan’s gaze was too intense; he had never looked at him that way before. He asked, “Is your boyfriend a freshman?”
Yu Nan fell silent all at once, and Chu Luoyang couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. No wonder Yu Nan was acting so strangely today.
“Whose fault is it that you’re having a cold war?” he asked.
Yu Nan pursed his lips, feeling a bit embarrassed. “It’s my fault.”
“Break up.”
Yu Nan felt irritated; he must have been out of his mind to consult him. He stood up and walked away.
He sent a message to Pei Yunchuan: Where is Bei Yuye training?
Chu Luoyang caught up to him. He, too, wanted to see Yu Nan’s boyfriend, who happened to be from the same school. How did that freshman manage to befriend Yu Nan? How did they get together?
It had only been a month since the start of school; how could they have gotten together so quickly?
Milk Tea: I’m at the basketball court; he’s near the Arts and Sports area. Can you bring me some water?
Pei Yunchuan regretted drinking yesterday. He woke up today feeling out of sorts and even forgot to bring his water bottle.
Yu Nan gave Chu Luoyang a mischievous smile. “How about I introduce you to a boyfriend? A freshman, tall, long legs, fair-skinned and clean, a fool with plenty of money.”
He bought two bottles of mineral water, handed one to him, and said, “I’ll point him out to you; you can deliver the water.”
Chu Luoyang shook his head, but Yu Nan forced it into his hands. It would be a bit awkward for him to go see his junior alone, but it wouldn’t be awkward with two people.
The weather was definitely not as hot for military training as it had been a month ago, but the sun was still no joke. In the morning, at least there was a refreshing breeze.
Yu Nan searched for Pei Yunchuan’s figure at the basketball court. It was break time, and everyone was sitting on the ground, playing with their phones.
Yu Yu: Stand up; I’m bringing you water!
Pei Yunchuan looked up, excited to see him. He waved.
Yu Nan handed the water to him and started venting, “Why did you suddenly tell him? What am I supposed to do? We might break up. I feel like I’m just leading him on. It hurts me, and he should be the one hurting. I’m sorry for him, and we’re in a cold war now; he’s ignoring me. Why did you suddenly drink yesterday?”
Yu Nan spoke in a rush, not connecting his thoughts, and Chu Luoyang, who had followed him, squatted down beside him.
He asked, “Is this your freshman boyfriend?”
“I’m completely straight, completely straight!” Pei Yunchuan emphasized vehemently, but his gaze shifted to the other water bottle in Yu Nan’s hand. “Thanks, but I only need one bottle.”
Yu Nan fiddled with the bottle, his tone weakening. “That’s not for you; it’s for the Bei Yuye.”
“Break up.” Chu Luoyang added salt to the wound.
Pei Yunchuan shot him a middle finger. “Those two will never break up as long as I’m around!”
He absolutely wouldn’t allow anyone to disrupt the strange online relationship between Yu Nan and Bei Yuye.
Upon hearing Milk Tea’s bold declaration, Yu Nan immediately asked, “Can you go apologize to him?”
Pei Yunchuan widened his eyes, pointing at himself. Why did it fall to him to apologize again?
Yu Nan knew he needed to apologize himself, but he was too good at avoiding things; he didn’t dare face his junior at all.
He handed the water he had prepared for his junior to Milk Tea. He needed to clarify what he wanted right now.
“I’m leaving; I’m going back to the dorm.” he waved goodbye to Milk Tea.
Chu Luoyang had just planned to follow him when Pei Yunchuan pulled him back. Pei Yunchuan decided to teach this guy about ethics; one should not pursue a married person.
Chu Luoyang: “Let go of me.”
Pei Yunchuan: “You’re shameless; you want to be a third party.”
Chu Luoyang simply sat down in front of him. “I’m currently pursuing Yu Nan, understand? This is called pursuing. Besides, they’re about to break up.”
Pei Yunchuan had a moment of inspiration. He pointed at him and said, “Then you must be the first in line for the inheritance.”
Seeing Chu Luoyang’s sudden dark expression, he knew he had struck a nerve. He was astonished at his own connection-making abilities and applauded himself internally.
Yu Nan claimed he was going back to the dorm, but he quietly wandered over to the Arts and Sports area. The path was lined with trees, providing some shade from the sun during military training.
He spotted his junior sitting there, playing on his phone, but he didn’t dare approach. He had just given the water to Milk Tea and had no reason to go over.
On his way back to the dorm, he messaged Bei Yuye: “Can we go out to talk on Saturday?”
He didn’t receive a reply. That guy was clearly playing on his phone, deliberately ignoring his messages.
Bei Bei: “Not going out.”
He continued asking: “Then we can type.”
Bei Bei: “I’m in military training.”
