- Chapter 43 - Reconciliation
On the way back, Yu Nan didn’t think about anything. The previous anxiety vanished completely when he saw Bei Yuye’s silent expression; all that remained was anger.
As the dormitory door closed, Yu Nan tried to smooth out his tightly furrowed brows. He turned to look at Bei Yuye, who stood hesitantly behind him with his hand on the doorknob, too scared to take a step inside, pouting and looking at him pitifully.
His tone was cold as he suppressed his anger: “Am I bullying you? Why don’t you come in?”
Upon hearing this, Bei Yuye leaned in closer but then just stood there motionless in front of him.
“As long as you’re happy, I don’t care anymore. We broke up anyway.”
As Yu Nan prepared to climb onto his bed, he suddenly felt his pant leg being tugged.
Bei Yuye’s legs felt as heavy as lead. As soon as he heard “break up,” he felt like he was about to fall apart. His legs gave in before his brain could catch up, and he knelt down, gripping Yu Nan’s pant leg so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
Yu Nan lifted his leg, trying to shake Bei Yuye off, but Bei Yuye wrapped his arms around his legs, pressing his face against him, refusing to let go.
With red-rimmed eyes, his voice was hoarse as he repeatedly said the same thing: “I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I shouldn’t have yelled at you…”
Yu Nan tugged at his collar: “Get up!”
“I was wrong; don’t break up with me. You kissed me, and you don’t want to take responsibility. Why are you so mean…” Bei Yuye cried, lamenting.
Yu Nan had never seen someone who would kneel down like this. He couldn’t pull him up, so he simply let him cry there.
“If you don’t want to take responsibility, that’s fine. We can still be ambiguous, can’t we?”
“If you find another boyfriend, I won’t care. I’m home, that’s enough…”
“I can also not be; I don’t need a title…”
Yu Nan’s expression darkened as he listened to Bei Yuye’s outrageous statements. He couldn’t tell if he had misheard or if he had truly lost his mind.
Before Yu Nan could apologize, Bei Yuye was already crying pitifully.
He squatted down and cupped Bei Yuye’s face in his hands. Tears clung to Bei Yuye’s eyelashes, making him look incredibly pitiful. He asked, “Why are you crying?”
Bei Yuye sobbed: “You want… you want to… break up.”
Was it all his fault now?
“Don’t you have any idea why I want to break up?” he said coldly. They could have cleared things up sooner, but Bei Yuye kept dragging it out. It was hard to avoid each other when they lived in the same dorm.
Bei Yuye blinked, tears still falling. He bit his lip and suddenly leaned in to kiss him.
Yu Nan pushed Bei Yuye’s face away. What was this idiot thinking? First, he went silent, then he knelt down, and now he just kissed him.
“Even though I said I don’t want you to take responsibility, I still want you to take responsibility…” Bei Yuye took the opportunity to hug Yu Nan, choking on his words.
Yu Nan tried hard to push him away: “We haven’t cleared things up yet.”
“I’m sorry; I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I was afraid you would bring up the breakup, so I didn’t talk to you.”
Yu Nan had no idea when Bei Yuye thought he was being “mean.” He asked, and Bei Yuye answered. After five minutes, he understood his entire thought process. Bei Yuye had previously sent messages saying Pei Yunchuan had told him everything just to force Yu Nan into a corner, making him take responsibility. He hadn’t expected that it would lead to a cold war.
He was too scared to talk to him afterward because he was afraid Yu Nan would directly bring up the breakup. Yu Nan had already thought of every possible way to apologize and had skipped straight past the apology phase.
Yu Nan went to help wipe his tears, suppressing a feeling of delight as he said, “Now that you know you were wrong, don’t do this anymore, okay? If you talk to me properly, I won’t blame you.”
“Mm… I’ll talk nicely from now on…”
Yu Nan asked, “Did I do anything wrong?”
“Nan Nan didn’t do anything wrong…”
Yu Nan ruffled Bei Yuye’s hair and pulled him up: “Then get up now; don’t do this again.”
It was quite scary when Bei Yuye knelt in front of him without saying a word.
He stuffed the packed noodles into Bei Yuye’s arms: “If you finish this, we won’t break up.”
These noodles cost twelve yuan; they weren’t cheap.
Bei Yuye held the noodles in his hands, reluctant to let go. He picked up his phone and took a picture, then posted it on his social media—oh, he’s worried I’m hungry and insisted on sending me noodles.
Pei Yunchuan: Are you back together?
Bei Yuye: Don’t stir up trouble; we weren’t even broken up!
Pei Yunchuan: Ha!.
On their first date, they had barbecue. He peeled two big plates of shrimp for Yu Nan, who loved shrimp.
He searched for tutorials himself. The spicy beef and shrimp noodles sounded good; he wanted to cook that for Yu Nan.
But first, Yu Nan had to come to his house tonight so that he could cook three meals a day for him over the weekend.
The two finally cleared everything up, and Bei Yuye nuzzled Yu Nan’s face, sweetly asking: “Do you want to sleep outside today?”
“Your place?” Yu Nan asked.
Bei Yuye nodded obediently.
Yu Nan was confused: “What’s the point of going to your place? Today, it’s just us in the dorm.”
Bei Yuye shyly shook Yu Nan’s hand: “Oh, I want you to see my room.”
Yu Nan took a step back. Was this a new code for getting into bed?
“Do you want to sleep with me?” he asked directly without beating around the bush.
Bei Yuye’s lips involuntarily curled up as he nodded emphatically.
This was a bit too fast; Yu Nan couldn’t handle it. They had just reconciled, and Bei Yuye was already thinking about these things.
“Are you really not going? I’ll make you a late-night snack,” Bei Yuye said, looking pitiful.
Yu Nan raised an eyebrow. “You can cook?”
Bei Yuye confidently patted his chest, claiming he could.
“But we can’t sleep together,” Yu Nan emphasized.
Bei Yuye quickly nodded, then hugged him and gave him a peck.
“Oh, isn’t that the guy who deletes comments?” Pei Yunchuan called out from the living room, where he was eating snacks and playing games. He looked up at the sound of movement at the door.
“Yu Yu!” When Pei Yunchuan saw Yu Nan, he immediately stood up and greeted him. “We have fried skewers here.”
“Pei Yunchuan, go save him! Go save him!”
A hoarse shout came from his phone.
Yu Nan rubbed his ears; that voice sounded familiar.
“Only save him when you have time! You’re ten thousand miles away; what can you save?”
Yu Nan suddenly realized—it was Chu Luoyang.
“Got it, got it, I’ll catch a bird again before I go save him,” Pei Yunchuan said nonchalantly.
“Don’t catch any more! If you don’t save him soon, he’ll be gone!”
“I give up on you, fear intimidation!”
Pei Yunchuan looked at the downed character in confusion and preemptively said, “You told me to go save him.”
“It’s my fault! It’s my fault! The moment I teamed up with you, I was doomed!”
Yu Nan couldn’t help but laugh. Pei Yunchuan always got scolded when he played games, but he always bounced back stronger.
Pei Yunchuan continued: “You really should reflect on this; you went down with just three machines.”
“Oh my dear little boy, you’re blaming me now? I give up on you!”
Bei Yuye noticed a pile of packages at his door and walked over to count them quickly—there were about ten dresses, all bought for Nan Nan.
The joy on his face was hard to conceal. He pulled him into his room, bringing all the packages inside.
“Nan Nan, pick one.”
Yu Nan looked at the pile of packages and casually picked one up.
“Open it!”
Yu Nan did as instructed. These packages were often used to hold clothes and were easy to tear open. Huh? Clothes!
He widened his eyes and looked at Bei Yuye, too scared to continue unwrapping. It had to be a dress, right? It must be a dress!
Bei Yuye took the half-unwrapped package from him and asked while unwrapping it, “Guess what color it is, Nan Nan?”
Yu Nan shook his head in a daze; he didn’t want to guess.
Bei Yuye revealed the contents: it was a two-piece set, a red top paired with a short skirt. He remembered how cute Nan Nan looked in the yellow short top and skirt set at Happy Valley, so he had bought several outfits like that.
The fabric of the top was soft and comfortable. Bei Yuye held it up in front of him, his face full of excitement: “Isn’t it pretty?”
His taste was really good.
“Do you want to try it on?” he looked at Yu Nan with hopeful eyes.
Yu Nan braced himself and said, “Let’s look at the other dresses first.”
With renewed vigor, Bei Yuye began unwrapping the dresses: a green bubble skirt perfect for outings, a blue fluffy skirt for casual wear anytime, and a light orange long dress ideal for the beach…
Every time he unwrapped a new item, he felt a sense of novelty. Nan Nan would wear the little skirts he bought, and it felt like he was playing “Miracle Nan Nan”!
“Why are you blushing?” Yu Nan noticed that the more dresses Bei Yuye unwrapped, the redder his face became. The air conditioning was on in the room, so unwrapping a few packages shouldn’t make him feel shy.
Bei Yuye’s face turned red as he bashfully said, “Oh, I’m feeling shy.”
“Why are you shy? It’s not like you’re the one wearing them,” Yu Nan suddenly asked. “Can you wear them?”
Bei Yuye’s eyes widened in shock as he stammered, “Huh?”
Yu Nan sifted through the pile of dresses and picked out the brightest red long dress, pulling Bei Yuye up to compare it against him.
“Every piece I bought is in your size; these are too small for me and would break apart.” Bei Yuye took the red dress and held it in front of Yu Nan, saying honestly, “Nan Nan would definitely look great in this.”
