Pei Yunchuan had come to terms with things, but Bei Yuye hadn’t.
Bei Yuye was frustrated without getting an answer, so he wrote a lengthy note to clarify everything.
After two whole classes, he reviewed his note, which was over 3,000 words, full of “Baby, I love you so much.”
He reflected that NanNan might not even want to hear “I love you” from him anymore, and he felt miserable.
Was he sleeping? Was he crying himself to sleep? He felt helpless and on the verge of tears.
During evening study, he sent the note to Yu Nan, detailing why he had used the “Little Fairy” nickname.
Yu Nan, feeling vexed, read through the extensive explanation. Bei Yuye had explained in great detail that the “Little Fairy” note was just a joke for a friend.
Yu Nan wasn’t sure if it was true, given the distance of the screen.
Should this online relationship continue? He hesitated but still felt a bit reluctant to cut it off. He finally sent a message: “Okay.”
BeiBei: “I love you so much, baby.”
He replied: “Mm, Friday video call.”
The sudden surge of emotions made BeiBei’s detailed explanation seem petty.
He didn’t want to see BeiBei’s messages lately and sought some peace.
The days passed quickly, and he rarely checked BeiBei’s messages from his secondary account. Bei Yuye consistently sent good morning and good night messages, which he occasionally replied to.
Recently, their chat had become as cold as a breakup.
On Friday night, he was alone in the dorm.
He distracted himself with games, but after 7 PM, every second seemed to drag on.
By 7:30 PM, BeiBei still hadn’t sent a message.
He felt a bit embarrassed for eagerly waiting, so he decided to take the initiative and sent a video call.
Bei Yuye answered immediately, and the first thing Yu Nan saw was a leather strap.
“NanNan, I miss you so much.”
Bei Yuye’s voice, tinged with a plaintive tone, made Yu Nan feel all his recent doubts dissipate. He began to question if not replying to BeiBei’s messages had been more of a torture for himself.
“I want you to hold the strap and pull on my collar. I like whatever you like,” Bei Yuye’s slightly hoarse voice trembled.
Yu Nan’s heart raced, and he placed his hand on his chest, feeling the irregular heartbeat. It was clear he couldn’t avoid this feeling for now.
He liked this.
“Bei Bei, I love you so much,” his voice softened.
Initially, he thought there might be awkwardness after the cold war, but his honest reaction was to say “I love you” immediately.
Bei Yuye apologized again: “Baby, I changed the note to my name. I love you so much too.”
Regardless of the truth, Yu Nan chose to believe him unconditionally and began apologizing too: “I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. I was wrong when my emotions flared up.”
“I shouldn’t have been cold these past few days,” he said, subconsciously clutching his blanket.
Bei Yuye’s tone brightened: “I forgive you. Want to pick a collar? There are so many.”
He picked up a box next to him and angled it towards the screen, trying to let Yu Nan see better.
Yu Nan was surprised by how many collars he had bought, and he was captivated: “Bring it closer to see.”
“The pink one with a bell,” he directed.
Bei Yuye immediately began searching through the box, awkwardly changing his collar to the pink one with a bell.
“I’ve never worn this before, so I’m a bit slow,” he said as he adjusted the collar.
Yu Nan could clearly see his deft fingers and the collar’s placement.
His heart raced with excitement: “Baby, I love you.”
Bei Yuye finally fastened the collar and adjusted it, covering his Adam’s apple.
Yu Nan wondered if pulling the collar would reveal his Adam’s apple again. He said, “Move around. Does the bell sound clear?”
Bei Yuye turned his head and leaned closer to the screen: “I think it sounds clear. What do you think?”
Yu Nan’s smile widened: “Very clear. I like it.”
A knock came at Bei Yuye’s door. He moved out of the frame, saying, “Baby, I’ll be right back.”
Within half a minute, he reappeared with a large box, saying, “A friend sent this as our anniversary gift.”
Yu Nan watched as he opened the package, holding the phone up to show him.
Yu Nan nodded: “Open it.”
He opened the box with one hand, his face showing surprise before quickly closing it.
He stammered: “No, NanNan…”
He struggled to explain but couldn’t find the words.
“Did he buy this for us or just you?” Yu Nan asked, distancing himself from the situation.
Bei Yuye fell silent, not knowing why Pei Yunchuan had bought such a bizarre assortment of items when he had previously resisted buying collars.
Yu Nan, still interested, said softly, “Let’s not waste your friend’s good intentions. Open it up.”
Bei Yuye hesitated but complied.
Yu Nan marveled: “Your friend knows quite a bit. Open everything.”
Bei Yuye positioned the phone to ensure everything was visible and started unpacking.
“What are those small packages?” Yu Nan asked.
Bei Yuye brought one closer to the screen, causing him to laugh: “Your friend really bought everything. Who’s going to use these nails? We don’t have piercings.”
Yu Nan gasped: “Is that a small whip?”
Bei Yuye picked up and unfolded the whip: “Yes, it’s a whip.”
Despite the odd assortment, Yu Nan seemed to enjoy it.
“Gloves, baby. There are gloves. Put them on,” here directed eagerly.
Bei Yuye obeyed, unfolding and putting on the leather gloves. Yu Nan continued to take screenshots, including the glove-wearing process.
Yu Nan, mesmerized by the screen, commented, “You should use this hand to whip me.”
Bei Yuye felt embarrassed by the comment, realizing NanNan genuinely liked these items. He needed to adapt.
Their recent estrangement vanished with the video call. They used to play with video calls alone, but now adding props was a new and enjoyable experience for Yu Nan.
“BeiBei, do you have ear piercings?” he asked.
Since Bei Yuye’s neck had never been in view before, and there were earrings in the box, he asked.
Bei Yuye shook his head: “No.”
“Do you want me to pierce them?” he asked with a chuckle.
Yu Nan dismissed the idea, realizing that just piercing an ear wouldn’t be enough for him. If BeiBei did it, he might demand more.
He imagined the scenario and chuckled to himself.
“NanNan?” Bei Yuye’s voice, prolonged and teasing, seemed to entice Yu Nan, who curled up in his blanket.
“BeiBei, take off your clothes,” Yu Nan’s voice lowered as he playfully demanded from under the covers, “And your pants too. I love you!”
“Wear the first collar again. It’ll feel better with the gloves,” he said repeatedly.
After that night, he had opened the door to a new world, now eager to try everything with BeiBei.
While on his way to evening class, he chatted with him via voice call.
At the beginning of the school year, they had only exchanged messages and rarely had voice calls. After their recent argument, they realized that voice calls could be as intimate as video calls.
“Baby, I’m almost at the classroom,” he said affectionately.
He felt their relationship had grown closer after their argument, although he didn’t fully understand why, but it felt good.
Was this what they called “little quarrels make things better”?
“I’m going to eat now. Tonight is evening study,” BeiBei said.
Yu Nan, arriving at the classroom, said, “Okay, baby. I’ll hang up now. I’m in the classroom.”
Bei Yuye laughed: “Alright! I’ll send you a picture of my dinner later. The cafeteria food looks good.”
Yu Nan smiled: “Okay, I’ll hang up now.”
After class, he eagerly logged into the game to rally his allies for a dungeon run.
He couldn’t use his microphone during class, but he noticed others weren’t using theirs either.
Messages flashed across the team chat.
Milk Tea: I can’t use my mic during evening study.
Doggo: In evening class with Kitty.
Yu Nan typed: “Let’s just start. We’re all experienced.”
An hour and a half later, evening study ended, and everyone left the game.
Yu Nan exited the game and messaged the group: “Not playing anymore. I’m heading back to the dorm.”
Milk Tea: “I can play. I still have half an hour of evening study.”
Doggo: “I’m done too. Going to the night market with Kitty.”
Yu Nan sent a message to BeiBei: “Baby, I’m done with class. I miss you.”
Bei Yuye replied with a screenshot showing two people, one on top of the other, with a collar around the neck of the person below, and the other pulling the strap.
Yu Nan texted: “We’re both excellent artists!”
BeiBei: “Yes!”
Yu Nan recalled his evening class and typed: “Did you draw this during evening study?”
Bei Yuye sent a proud puppy emoji.
It was evident, Yu Nan was too shy to draw such things in public, while BeiBei seemed unconcerned.
BeiBei: “I drew us. I’ll create more.”
Yu Nan smiled, about to send a “pat pat” emoji when someone tapped him on the shoulder.
“What are you laughing about? So happy,” Li Muyang’s voice came from behind.
Thinking about BeiBei made his smile deepen: “Just chatting with my little brother at home.”
