Gender Reversed Geum Taeyang - Chapter 20
Chapter 20 – Broadcast Accident
Evening time on TwitchyTV is when broadcasts start becoming more active.
Many viewers enter TwitchyTV after finishing their daily routines, and numerous streamers start broadcasting to meet this influx.
Before becoming a streamer, Yuhan set 6 PM as his broadcast start time based on what’s called industry analysis.
While Ari didn’t do such grand analysis, she simply set her start time to 6 PM because it seemed like there were many viewers then.
One thing they have in common is that they’re both always serious about work.
As soon as the computer clock indicated 6 PM, both their broadcasts started simultaneously.
Perhaps because Yuhan and his viewers had exhausted all their energy in the battle between streaming pride and suspiciously overflowing lust, today both the chat and audio were unusually calm.
Even when finally surpassing 90 viewers without any particular incident, Yuhan’s reaction was merely bored.
Considering how Yuhan’s broadcasts usually maintain active chat despite not having many viewers, this could be considered quite unusual.
Of course, even now it’s still active compared to other streamers with similar viewer counts.
Such unusual events were happening in Ari’s room as well.
Ari’s broadcast, which was already considered fairly large, was flooded with viewers instantly surpassing 10,000, overlapping with an unprecedented 5-day break.
Considering that Rete’s average viewership is between 6,000-7,000, the additional 3,000+ viewers can be considered external influx. And that was indeed the case.
3,000 toxic viewers who had been spreading gossip about Rete’s emergency break for 5 days straight – to the point where even a certain community known for latching onto any streamer-related drama, trivial or serious, found it tiresome – invaded Rete’s broadcast as soon as the notification went up.
Their firepower was enough to bury the usually respectful chat of Rete’s broadcast.
Actually, it wasn’t just that Rete’s regular viewers were buried. There had to be viewers angry about the sudden 5-day break.
Anyway, after about an hour, both broadcasts showing these extremes with completely different atmospheres from usual returned somewhat to their normal feel.
Making 7,000 viewers maintain respectful chat is not an easy task. That alone shows how excellent Ari’s broadcasting abilities are.
For such an Ari, dealing with 3,000 toxic viewers was annoying but not particularly difficult, so she used that excellence well to calm the viewers and began making an announcement to the now 6,500 viewers.
###
“Yes, about the 5-day break… I have nothing to say. I’m sorry. My mental state really collapsed this time…”
“What? Ah, I was already having a hard time, and then I had a big fight with someone close…”
“You’re asking if I fought with my boyfriend? I can’t tell you who I fought with.”
“…You’re asking if it was because of Geum Taeyang?”
While technically true if you think about it, Ari isn’t thoughtless enough to say that straightforwardly.
But if there’s a problem… Ari stiffened slightly when Yuhan was mentioned, reminded of that crazy thing she did in his broadcast yesterday.
So her response was slightly delayed, and these weren’t viewers who would miss even that much.
-Oh looks like it’s true
-Does that guy have no boundaries
-He was acting pretty rudely
“Ah, no! That’s not it!!”
-?
-This is awkward
-Aah so it’s not that?
-What’s with the chat’s sudden change
“Um… well, it’s not completely unrelated… We met and talked a lot during the break and we’re quite close now…”
-?
-?
-?
As Ari herself realized right after saying it, this was definitely a slip of the tongue.
She should have clearly stated that the break had nothing to do with Yuhan. Isn’t this like advertising to the whole neighborhood that her mental breakdown and break were because of Geum Taeyang?
While she tried to think of ways to fix it, public opinion in internet broadcasts tends to worsen even in that brief moment of contemplation.
Even though Rete’s broadcast is known as one of the most wholesome on TwitchyTV, the atmosphere was becoming more hostile than usual.
-lol didn’t that person mess with Rete’s boyfriend too
-You’re trying to defend this?
-Rete you don’t need to look after someone like that
-Isn’t he streaming right now?
Actually, she thought that even so, this could be handled sufficiently if she quickly found the right words to fix it. Though it didn’t take long to realize that wasn’t the case.
Five days. Someone who had strictly maintained their broadcast schedule suddenly disappeared for five days without explanation.
While some viewers accepted it calmly, naturally there were viewers who felt disappointed.
But even those in the latter category had Rete fandom’s characteristic strong loyalty, making them uncomfortable about simply blaming Rete.
Geum Taeyang who appeared then was enough fodder to turn such viewers toxic.
With his delinquent-like appearance, instances where Ari showed dislike towards him on broadcast, and now even this break is said to be related to him!
The pleasure of finding someone to blame and a strangely rising sense of justice.
They had no reason not to go confront Geum Taeyang’s broadcast.
Whether it aligned with Ari’s intentions or not.
While Ari was becoming flustered by this unexpected situation, Geum tayeyang – Yuhan’s broadcast was still maintaining its low tension.
“What am I doing today, you ask? Well… probably just Minecraft like always. Keeping it calm. Huh? You’re sick of seeing it every day? Why should I care about the opinions of outdated girls?”
-wtf
-With this tension, viewer count’s definitely going to plummet
-Actually seems like viewers are already slowly leaving
-fr lololol
-It’s too quiet
“I want to try hard too. But after that mess with you guys yesterday, I just don’t have the energy… Guess I’ll have to give up on viewer count today.”
-Isn’t this too few to be giving up
-Maybe if you do some sexual harassment again your tension will rise like yesterday
While he was still playing along with his concept faithfully.
Anyway, sudden changes started happening to the viewer count.
The number that was starting to change to 7 in the front suddenly passed 100 and kept rising rapidly.
-Give us an explanation
-lol really shameless
-You cause all this trouble for others and just sit there streaming? lol
“…What’s this now.”
As mentioned earlier, since Rete’s broadcast has a high proportion of moderate viewers, not many people came to terrorize Yuhan’s broadcast, but for some of them, spamming the chat of Gold Sun’s broadcast with its low viewer count and tension wasn’t difficult.
After quickly explaining her slip of the tongue and matters related to Yuhan to her broadcast viewers, Ari hurriedly entered Yuhan’s channel, but the chat was already full of viewers who had turned toxic.
To end this disaster quickly, she needed to properly gather her thoughts, but today Ari couldn’t manage that.
Unless someone is a bad person, they extremely dislike causing trouble for others, so she felt terribly sorry about causing such inconvenience to someone as kind as Yuhan through her mistake.
And for some reason, she really hated the fact that she might look pathetic to Yuhan.
-♩♫♪
Her phone rings in the midst of this.
A call from Yuhan. Looking back at the broadcast screen, Yuhan can be seen trying to call someone.
Perhaps due to broadcast delay, the timing is slightly off from reality.
Ari answered the phone immediately, as if not wanting to keep Yuhan waiting any longer.
###
“He-hello?!”
“Oh myy, hello Rete-nim!”
“G-Geum-nim, hello…”
“Nothing major, but some strange people have flooded my broadcast, and I was wondering if you might know what’s going on?”
“I’m sorry! That’s…!!”
I consider myself quite perceptive. Although Sehee has never acknowledged this fact, at least I think so.
I noticed this was related to Ari after briefly observing those toxic viewers’ spam – isn’t that enough proof?
Since I’ve accumulated my own knowledge about the broadcasting industry, I understood this wasn’t happening by Ari’s will. Also that it wasn’t a situation under her control.
That’s just how toxic viewers are. They’re not the type of viewers a streamer can control.
Anyway, my feelings about this situation… I don’t particularly feel anything.
Those bastards… no, those girls spamming my chat demanding apologies aren’t particularly pleasant, but.
What’s important now is Ari’s state. Her trembling voice coming through the phone reveals her emotional state. Was she originally this timid?
What’s the big deal about this.
If viewers have misunderstandings, we can explain together, and these toxic viewers can be dealt with by appropriate banning.
No, is it actually a big deal? Come to think of it, over 100 people are criticizing me but I don’t feel anything. Even though my mental fortitude is good, I don’t think it was this good before.
I’ve always felt that my mental state changed slightly as my body changed – maybe it’s because of that.
I’m not sure. Well, having strong mental fortitude is good for me.
“G-Geum-nim? Can you hear me?”
Ah. I was lost in thought for too long.
“Yes. Rete-nim. Please continue.”
“I, um, made a mistake…”
So began Ari’s explanation. Although she seemed to ramble, maybe because she’s intelligent, it was clear enough to understand the situation.
From the current situation to meeting me during her break. Even making it seem like I had absolutely no fault to anyone listening.
Is this what they call university student-level shielding? The effect is really clear, seeing how those toxic viewers are gradually stopping their activities.
“Yes. That’s what happened…”
As Ari apologized with tremendous shielding, I was about to casually say something like I made many mistakes too so it’s fine, but stopped.
Is it okay to let this slide like this?
I don’t particularly care, but my viewers might say various things, and Ari might receive unreasonable criticism for being someone who brushes off such incidents with just an apology.
It would be better to pretend to extract something and end it.
After thinking briefly, something comes to mind.
The Nintendo Switch gaming console I saw on Ari’s NewTube. Of course, I’m not saying I want to have it.
Since I can’t play many games on broadcast with my low-performance computer anyway, couldn’t I borrow that for a while to use on broadcast?
It can create a warm ending without burdening anyone and prevent any aftermath.
My. What a genius idea. If I had studied harder in school, could I have met Ari at university?
Thinking about a future where everyone becomes happy makes me want to smile involuntarily.
If we’ve reached a conclusion, let’s speak quickly without dragging this out.
I put on a gentle smile to lighten the mood. Though I’m not sure if it counts as a smile when only one corner of my mouth rises lewdly in a sleazy grin.
My body moves on its own, pulling the chair back and crossing my legs up on the desk.
Literally a delinquent-like slouching posture. What’s going on?
Fuck. This is happening again. Need to end this quickly before something weirder happens!
‘Rete-nim.’
“Ari-ya.”
Please.
‘If you really feel sorry, can I ask for one favor?’
“…Sorry?”
Don’t do this.
‘Just lend me a gaming console next time! Haha!’
“…Come to my place by 10:30 tomorrow with your car.”
No.
“Let’s talk at your place.”
I don’t want to go.
“Okay…”
Although her real name that had never been mentioned on broadcast was suddenly revealed.
Although I notified her with an authoritative tone like giving orders.
Somehow, there seemed to be a strange excitement in Ari’s voice.
