I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 106
Chapter 106: Bring It On
While Seneca and the others were talking with Attalos, adventurers aspiring to serve as Peripatos’ support were gathering in the arena. At the front of the group were Nina and Fabius.
“Bring it on. I’ll handle you without letting you get hurt.”
With those words, Peripatos suddenly took up his sword.
He had only drawn his sword playfully, but the pressure he usually gave off felt even more intense, causing the adventurers to shrink back.
“No one here got any fire in ‘em?”
Peripatos flashed a provocative grin and casually swung his sword once.
It should’ve been just a single slash, but in the air, a cross-shaped scar was left behind.
Someone murmured,
“But he only swung once… Why…?”
“It’s a cross sword, so of course it cuts in a cross. What else did you expect?!”
Peripatos replied immediately, without missing a beat.
Everyone knew that couldn’t possibly be “of course,” but no one had the courage to speak up.
As Peripatos continued grinning smugly, a few adventurers drew their weapons and charged straight at him.
“Watch out!”
Just as Fabius shouted, a large hammer was hurled at Peripatos. However, right in front of him, it hit something invisible and bounced off.
The adventurers who had stepped forward in determination were left stunned.
Nina quickly retrieved the hammer and took her place beside Fabius, who had already assumed a battle-ready stance.
“You kids’re from Attalos’ crew, aren’t ya? …How’d you know that was dangerous?”
“I’m used to attacks charged with fighting spirit.”
Nina answered while holding her hammer high.
Peripatos let out a thoughtful “I see…” and fell silent for a moment.
“All right then. Nina, you’re coming with me. I’ll show you something fun.”
“Yaaay!”
“There’s someone perfect for Fabius, so I’ll introduce you to him. Just settle for that this time.”
“…Okay.”
“Then that’s it for selection. A few others noticed the trail of my slash, but in this kind of thing, it’s first-come, first-served. You lot were way too passive today.”
With just that, Peripatos took Fabius and Nina with him and walked off somewhere.
Peripatos led Fabius and Nina as they walked.
The intimidating pressure he had radiated moments before was gone, replaced by him cheerfully humming to himself.
“Hey, hey, Peripatos-sama, that cross-slash thing you did when we arrived—do you think I could learn to do that too?”
“That? Hmm… probably not.”
“Gaaah~n.”
Nina didn’t seem disappointed—in fact, she looked delighted.
“That move’s more like magic than technique. Even if someone else tried the same thing, it wouldn’t come out the same.”
“Ah, I see.”
“First, you gotta learn to handle fighting spirit. Once you’ve got that down, I’ll teach you the technique.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah. But for that, we’ve gotta take care of this Stampede first.”
Chatting like that, Peripatos led them deeper into the guild. Then, entering the most luxurious reception room, he called out.
“Hey, Zenon! I brought someone you’re gonna love!”
Sure enough, it was Zenon’s room. Fabius had a feeling this would happen—and he broke out into a cold sweat.
“Peripatos, have you decided who you’ll be taking to the front line?”
“Yeah. I’m taking Nina from Attalos’ group. But Nina’s usually paired with Fabius, right? That’d leave Fabius on his own. You seem like you’d be a good match for him, so I want you to look after him.”
“Peripatos, I’ve told you many times—I’m not the type of person who teaches others. The capable ones simply learn on their own by watching me. That’s all there is to it.”
“I know. That’s exactly why I brought someone capable. I said they’d be a good match for you, didn’t I?”
“Is that so? Then there’s no problem. I’ll have Fabius stay by my side.”
“Good! Then it’s settled.”
Peripatos leaned in and whispered to Fabius, “He’s a bit of an odd one, but you’ll get used to him quick,” and then left with Nina in tow.
It seemed like the two eccentrics were getting along just fine.
After leaving Fabius with Zenon, Peripatos took Nina somewhere away from prying eyes.
“There are a lot of people who get the wrong idea, so I’ll say this upfront, your job isn’t to be my vanguard.”
“It’s not?”
“Nope. What matters most is after the battle. If I’m exhausted, we’ll need to work together to make it back. And if I’m out cold, you’ll need to hold off the enemy until I come to. That’s your second most important job.”
“What’s the first?”
“If I lose… you fight like hell to get that fact to someone. Anyone.”
Nina’s eyes sharpened as she looked Peripatos straight on.
“I carry the weight of the nation. If I can’t win, then all the Platinum-ranked adventurers will have to be mobilized. That kind of threat has almost never shown up in recorded history—but this time might be different. It’s a situation with that kind of potential.”
“And you chose me for that role?”
“Yeah. If you sense I’m in danger, don’t think—move. Just like when you threw your hammer at the trail of my slash.”
“…Got it.”
“When that time comes, forget your pride—survive. No matter how bad things get, as long as Granny Fides and Zenon are around, they’ll find a way.”
Seeing Peripatos—whose eyes now held an uncharacteristic gentleness—Nina silently vowed to give everything she had.
