I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 108
Episode 108: “She’s the spitting image!”
While fighting, Rentulus kept an eye on Moonlit Vow’s movements. His skill allowed for defense even if the party wasn’t tightly grouped together, but the tradeoff was needing to keep track of each individual’s actions.
He had already gotten a good look at Moonlit Vow’s capabilities.
He couldn’t exactly copy Gaia’s magic, but aside from that, he’d figured out most of what they could do. Rentulus was getting the sense that, indeed, they were quite skilled.
As they advanced through the forest, one thought kept crossing Rentulus’s mind.
“Seneca is just like Anna!”
Attalos had told him time and again how much Seneca resembled her father, Eus. And sure, he could see that.
But to Rentulus, Seneca looked far more like her mother, Anna.
Maybe it was because Rentulus had worked more closely with Anna in the past. Since Anna and Rentulus were in charge of protecting Nemi, who wasn’t as strong in combat, he’d had plenty of chances to observe her movements.
Anna had the skill 【Ice Magic】. Compared to 【Fire Magic】 or 【Water Magic】, it wasn’t particularly common—but not exactly rare either. That was the kind of skill it was.
Back when she was still a novice, her magic had seemed fairly ordinary. She performed her role without flaw and was a solid support mage for the party.
But as her level increased, Anna’s skill began to exhibit an unusually high level of interference. Eventually, she started saying strange things like “I can force the phenomenon of freezing onto things.” Rentulus still didn’t really understand what she meant.
Normally, freezing water means lowering its temperature. But apparently, Anna could “force” the phenomenon of freezing onto the water—causing the temperature to drop as a result.
Nemi seemed to understand it somewhat, but Eus and the others—including Rentulus—had no idea what she was talking about.
Back then, Rentulus couldn’t imagine what good that ability would be.
But one day, Anna began disrupting enemy mana with ice magic, even momentarily halting enemy movements.
Apparently, she could achieve this by maximizing her interference power and burning through massive amounts of mana.
Her technique ignored all sense of efficiency, but the party had been saved by it countless times. In those desperate moments where even a split second could decide life or death, the value of stopping an enemy—if only for an instant—was immeasurable.
Rentulus had seen many mages in his time, but none quite like Anna.
As those memories returned to him, Rentulus looked once more at the girl in front of him.
“What Seneca’s doing—it’s just like Anna!”
Anna had tried applying her skill to all sorts of targets. Maybe it was Eus’s influence, or maybe Nemi’s. Either way, she pushed her innate boldness to its fullest and kept refining her technique.
That same spirit clearly lived on in Seneca.
Sewing through the air?
Sewing shadows?
Sew- Healing?
No—healing wasn’t related to her skill, but even so, it made no sense.
Rentulus let out a rare, deep chuckle from within his chest.
It had been a long time since something had baffled him this much.
And yet, everyone else looked at Seneca as if it were perfectly normal.
Are they all just numb to this?
Is it really my job to keep these kinds of people in line?
Doubt began to surface in Rentulus’s mind.
But before he knew it, the wry smile he wore had transformed into one of genuine enjoyment.
A nostalgic feeling washed over him.
Just like back in Golden Branch. (His party in the past)
No one ever moved as expected.
No one ever took defense into consideration.
But when the five of them clicked, Golden Branch showed its true worth.
Rentulus still believed it.
If they had kept growing the way they were, they’d have become the best party out there by now.
But that future was no longer possible.
“Entrusting the future… huh.”
Rentulus’s eyes drifted into the distance.
Having reached their hiding spot, Seneca and the others calmed their minds and waited for the moment to act.
Since they were far from the center, there were hardly any monsters around. The situation wasn’t much different from taking a break.
“What kind of signal will come from Pheripatos-sama?”
Plautia asked Attalos.
“There’s nothing specifically decided, but it’ll probably be some kind of large-scale attack.”
“An attack?”
“Yeah. In situations like this, some people might use smoke signals, but Pheripatos-sama will likely opt for a surprise attack. On the other hand, if a signal never comes, it probably means something unexpected has happened.”
“The signal should come from the direction where the Guardian is, right?”
This time, Gaia, who was beside them, asked.
“Yeah, that’s right. Thanks to all of you, we’ve narrowed down the Guardian’s location quite a bit, so it should be easier to spot the signal.”
“How amazing is Pheripatos-sama, really? I’ve heard rumors, but…”
“Let’s see… Think of it this way—he can unleash techniques with a sword that surpass Gaia’s 【Artillery Magic】, and do it repeatedly.”
“Wha—?! He’s that incredible?”
It was Plautia who let out a gasp of surprise.
“Yep. Gaia, you often practice in the school’s high-output magic training room, right? Pheripatos-sama can destroy those targets from a considerable distance away.”
“Wait, those targets? The ones that don’t even flinch no matter how many spells I shoot at them?!”
“That’s what a platinum-ranked adventurer is. And among them, Pheripatos-sama and Master Xenon stand in a league of their own.”
As Attalos said this, his expression turned a bit exasperated.
Then Rentulus, who had been watching from a distance, raised his voice.
“Hey, you gals—look over there.”
When they turned in the direction Rentulus was pointing, they saw black, gleaming particles descending from the sky.
The sight was both mystical and ominous, and the four of them—Seneca and the others—forgot to breathe as they stared in awe.
