I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 110
Episode 110: “The Door”
Even after seeing Pheripatos’s signal, Seneca and the others remained on standby.
Pheripatos’s attack was fierce, and Seneca and the others could sense the monsters in the forest stirring all at once.
A stampede had begun.
Maior was currently refraining from using Detection. It was to prevent the monsters from sensing that they were being observed.
According to Attalos, in stampedes like this one, aside from the Guardian, there were usually several other powerful monsters as well.
Among the members sent to Xenon, the gold-ranked adventurers seemed to have the primary mission of taking down those strong monsters aside from the Guardian.
Since there were other adventurers who could use Detection, Maior was being careful not to interfere.
As Gradius had once told him, Maior’s Detection skill apparently contained a large amount of Holy attribute. Monsters born from mana accumulations tend to show hostility toward holy energy, making it easier for them to notice the presence of Maior’s skill.
Maior was training to be able to adjust that aspect, but she wasn’t quite successful yet.
After a short wait, Attalos gathered everyone and spoke.
“As expected, it should be about time. Maior, I’m counting on your Detection.”
“Understood. Activating skill now.”
Maior infused her magic power generously and activated the skill. Immediately, she could see an overwhelming number of monsters moving toward the city.
“There are too many monsters to count. It seems like there are significantly more than the Guild had estimated…”
“I thought so. …How’s Pheripatos-sama faring in battle?”
From the moment she used Detection, Maior sensed two tremendous forces clashing. She focused her attention on that area.
The power of the Guardian and Pheripatos was immense. If she hadn’t seen the white dragon before, Maior thought she might’ve trembled in fear from the sheer intensity.
“It looks like Pheripatos-sama has the upper hand. However, the Guardian still has plenty of strength remaining.”
“I see. If not even Pheripatos-sama’s Heavenly Cross Blade can dominate the fight, then this opponent must be quite powerful. We need to take this situation very seriously.”
“And also… there’s a round object floating near the Guardian that gives off a really unpleasant feeling.”
Maior had noticed its presence since the moment she used Detection. It felt ominous and made her skin crawl.
“What was that? Sorry, but could you share your field of vision with me?”
Maior activated a sub-skill and showed Attalos.
“…This is what’s known as a ‘Door’ that connects to subspace. Normally, in a region with such an abnormally high mana density, the contours should be hard to distinguish, but you were able to detect it clearly. Could it be that you’ve become capable of detecting subspace?”
“This is the first time I noticed something like this, so I’m not sure. Though… I did think it was strange that even after leveling up, I wasn’t detecting as many new targets as I’d been told I would.”
It was said that at level 3, the number of targets detectable with Detection would increase dramatically, but Maior hadn’t felt that much of a difference.
“More importantly… what exactly is the ‘Door’?”
“A ‘Door’ is an entrance to subspace. Master Xenon calls the ones who guard the stampede ‘Guardians,’ but that’s just a convenient term. In truth, what we call the ‘Guardian’ is actually the powerful monster guarding the ‘Door.’”
“…So that’s how it is.”
“It’s highly classified information. Normally, it’s explained in the other way.”
“Was it really okay for me to hear this?”
“I figured I’d have to say it at some point once we were given this mission, but there are a lot of regulations involved. Honestly, I’m glad you noticed it. Once this is over, Master Xenon will handle things properly.”
Once the conversation had settled down, Gaia spoke up.
“Is that ‘Door’ connected to the cause of the stampede?”
“That’s right. It’s said that when a dense accumulation of mana forms, a subspace can appear. When subspace is present, the mana density increases even further, sometimes causing local monsters to mutate, or allowing monsters to appear through the subspace.”
“So when a powerful monster suddenly appears, the local monsters flee, and that leads to the mass migration of monsters.”
“Basically, yes. But sometimes the number of monsters increases so dramatically that it defies that explanation. There’s more I’d like to say, but for this mission, that much is sufficient. I can’t speak further.”
Maior, listening from the side, had thoughts about it, but since Attalos said that, she remained silent.
“Let me re-explain this mission. A stampede caused by a mana accumulation usually ends once the Guardian is defeated and the Door is sealed. However, when the scale becomes large, that alone may not be enough.”
Attalos looked each person in the eye as he continued in a calm tone.
“For example, monsters on par with the Guardian might settle near a different mana accumulation, and the Door could open again after some time. In another past stampede, a powerful monster created a kind of colony and started mass-breeding offspring.”
When Maior glanced at Rentulus, he had a complicated, hard-to-read expression.
Attalos continued.
“Our mission is to confirm that the stampede is truly winding down after the Door is sealed. If that doesn’t seem to be the case, or if we see signs that it won’t end, we eliminate the threat with everything we’ve got. That’s why I believe everyone’s strength is necessary.”
Seneca and the rest nodded in agreement.
After that, Maior continued hiding while using Detection to monitor the situation.
The operation had started at dawn, but now the sun was beginning to set. During that time, Pheripatos had been unleashing fierce attacks continuously. Nina, positioned farther away, occasionally ate her rations but didn’t seem to have moved from her spot.
One by one, the monsters were being taken down. With several capable scouts present, it seemed that forces were being appropriately allocated.
According to Maior’s assessment, there were nine extremely powerful monsters. Among them, three weren’t quite at the level of Guardians, but they exuded an exceptional presence and were being handled by multiple Gold-ranked adventurer parties.
When Maior and the others arrived, there had only been a few dozen adventurers, but reinforcements must have come at some point, as it now looked like nearly a hundred adventurers were fighting.
As everyone fought desperately, Maior began to wonder if it was really okay for them to just stay on standby. But according to Attalos, even after the others returned, their group would continue the investigation.
With that in mind, Maior let out a sigh—she understood it couldn’t be helped.
She was prepared to risk her life, but she had rarely ever truly done so. Since such a moment could arrive at any time, she decided once again to brace herself and straighten her posture.
As the surroundings began to darken, a monster approached Maior and the others.
“Attalos-san! A monster with power equivalent to a Gold-ranked party is heading our way!”
“Got it! Are the other parties currently engaged?”
“All the strong parties are in battle!”
Thanks to Attalos and Rentulus sharing the traits of each party beforehand, Maior could make judgments quickly.
“What’s the enemy?”
“It appears to be a variant of a Devil Wolf! At a glance, it’s specialized in offense!”
Maior immediately shared her vision with Attalos and Rentulus using 【Shared Vision】.
“All members, prepare for battle. First priority is to stop its advance. If it feels too dangerous, retreat. But if there’s an opening, aim to defeat it. Anyone with free hands, light up the area. I don’t care if small fry monsters gather because of it.”
Following Attalos’ command, Seneca and the others, who had been resting, hurried to ready themselves for battle.
“First, Rentulus and I will engage the enemy. ‘Moonlit Vow’ provides support. Gaia, don’t use your magic until I give the signal.”
“Understood.”
Sensing the presence of the enemy, Seneca tightened her grip on her sword.
Today, Seneca carried the blade of Lucius’ father, Junius. While the new sword she bought was also good, this one felt the most natural in her hand.
“We’re about to enter throwing and archery range.”
“Alright. Aim well and shoot.”
Maior activated 【Trajectory】 and shared vision with Gaia. Then, she immediately fired an arrow enhanced with 【Archery】 .
The arrow hit the enemy, but didn’t penetrate deeply—it simply fell away.
Beside her, Gaia fired a slingshot.
The monster, still running, smoothly dodged the projectile.
It likely dodged just to be safe, but even if it had hit, the damage wouldn’t have been significant.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
“Same here.”
Attalos and Rentulus both voiced their concern.
“Plautia, this might just be a hunch, but prepare some antidotes. These muscle-focused variants surprisingly often carry poison. Seneca might also need to handle sutures.”
Both of them nodded.
This time, Rentulus spoke.
“Maior, Gaia, give us covering fire. The goal is to limit the enemy’s movement, so go all out. Even if your shots come close to hitting us, I’ll deal with it, so don’t worry.”
Rentulus moved to the front.
“ 【Shield Sphere】 !”
Four shield spheres appeared around Rentulus. He skillfully maneuvered one of them and aimed to ram it into the Devil Wolf.
However, the Devil Wolf nimbly avoided the shield sphere and instead struck it with its claws.
CLANG!
A loud sound rang out, but the shield sphere didn’t budge an inch.
“It’s venomous. Not a deadly poison, but if the wound is deep, it could be life-threatening. As you can see, its offensive power is pretty high.”
“Alright. Plautia, Seneca, I’m counting on you if things go south.”
Saying that, Attalos advanced toward the Devil Wolf.
“My shield spheres can be imbued with mana upon activation to gain an ‘Analysis’ effect. This lets me determine whether the enemy has poison, its elemental attribute, attack power, and so on.”
With that, Rentulus followed after Attalos.
