I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 37
Episode 37: Encounter at the Girls’ Dormitory
The worries that had lingered after the entrance exams had finally cleared.
Thus, Seneca and Kito decided to proceed with their discussion regarding Lucius.
Since arriving in the royal capital, Seneca and Maior had been gathering information in the city and at the Adventurers’ Guild.
However, there was still no sign of any new information about the Saint.
The three of them sensed that something unusual was going on.
If the lack of news was simply because Baetica was far from the royal capital, they had thought they might be able to meet him at the Church Headquarters. However, considering how little information was available, it seemed unwise to probe too openly.
Operating under the assumption that this was the result of power struggles or conspiracies, the three of them discussed various possibilities.
As a result, they concluded that their best course of action would be to visit the elderly priest.
Seneca and Kito both felt that the elderly priest who had appraised their skills back in Baetica was the most trustworthy person they knew. It would likely be less dangerous than directly searching for Lucius.
Kito also happened to remember his name—Gradius. If he was at the royal capital’s church, he might have some information.
Of course, simply being people from Baetica seeking out Gradius could put them in an unfavorable situation. However, the three of them judged that it wouldn’t escalate too severely.
After all, they were already somewhat well-known. Since they had been accepted into the royal academy with excellent scores, the school would likely offer them some degree of protection.
After further discussion, they finalized their plan.
The first step was to enroll in the academy. While their names had gained some recognition, they were still just ordinary youths. However, once they became students, their status would be secured, and the school would have more reason to protect them. Excelling in their studies would further improve their position.
Once they had settled into their academy life, they would take the opportunity to express their desire to meet Priest Gradius at the church.
They later learned that it was not uncommon for people to want to thank a priest who had appraised their skills. Given their credentials, wanting to show gratitude wouldn’t seem unnatural.
If their plan succeeded, they would be able to meet Gradius. If not, they would have to find another way to track him down.
Since the royal academy had long vacations, Seneca and Maior planned to spend that time training as adventurers while searching for both Gradius and Lucius.
“This is as far as we can think for now. I’ll try to gather more information at the magic academy as well.”
“Yeah. Let’s each expand our connections and see what we can find.”
With that, their meeting came to an end.
About ten days later, Seneca and Maior’s dormitory move-in day arrived.
The dormitory was located on the outskirts of the adventurer academy’s campus.
The boys’ dormitory and the girls’ dormitory were quite far apart, meaning that meeting up took some time.
Since neither of them owned many personal belongings, their move was light and easy. However, since they would continue their activities as adventurers, they still needed various essentials, including camping gear.
They had sold off the heavier items back in Baetica, planning to repurchase them after settling into the dormitory. The adventurer academy also provided some equipment for rent, so they could rely on that as well.
When they arrived at the dormitory, they found a large group of new residents gathered there.
Since most students at the adventurer academy lived in the dorms—except for a few nobles—there were many people present even though it was only the first move-in day.
On the door, the room assignments were posted.
“Maior, our rooms are next to each other, but we didn’t end up as roommates.”
“That’s true. But if we had been in the same room, we might have just stuck together all the time. This is probably for the best. Making friends with new people is an important skill for adventurers.”
Seneca nodded in agreement with Maior’s reasoning.
“Some people have four-person rooms, huh?”
“Yeah. Apparently, we could have chosen a four-person room too. I only found out about it later.”
“Really? I thought all the rooms were for two people.”
“Only students in Class B or higher, or those with money, get to stay in two-person rooms.”
“I see… But a four-person room does sound fun, kind of like a real student experience.”
“That’s true. But you have a lot of secrets, Seneca, so a two-person room might be better for you. Hopefully, your new roommate is someone who can keep their mouth shut.”
“Their name is Gaia-san. I wonder what they’re like. Well, let’s go check out the room!”
With that, Seneca and Maior followed the dormitory map to their respective rooms.
When Seneca entered the room, it was empty.
The space was larger than expected. Compared to the room she had shared with Maior, it was quite spacious, with plenty of storage space.
There was a bunk bed and two desks in the room. Seneca had no particular preference, but knowing that some people cared about whether they slept on the top or bottom, she decided not to choose.
After lightly organizing her belongings, Seneca found herself at a loss for what to do. So, she decided to pass the time with her usual routine.
After her encounter with Attalos, Seneca had learned to envelop her 【Magic Needle】 in fire. It was highly inefficient and a crude technique, but the fact that it was possible had been proven.
One of Seneca’s efforts had borne fruit.
She had long asked herself, What meaning does this have? Yet, she had never been able to stop her pursuit of magic. She had told herself countless times that there might be no meaning to it, and others had told her the same. But now, she has found one.
Currently, Seneca was attempting to convert her magic into the ice attribute.
There were probably more practical forms of training, but whenever she had spare time, she found herself grappling with her magic, trying to figure something out.
She had no clues. All she had to go on was the assumption that it must be the opposite of fire, so she was testing everything she could think of.
Seneca understood clearly that this was an obsession.
She had tried to suppress her feelings, believing them meaningless, yet they had broken free and run wild. Even so, she could not stop until she achieved ice magic, just like her mother.
After immersing herself in magic conversion for a while, she sensed someone outside the room. Then, with a click, the door opened, and someone entered.
Looking toward the door, she saw a tall, slender girl standing there.
“Are you Gaia-san, by any chance? I’m Seneca. Nice to meet you!”
Seneca stood up, trotted over, and extended her hand for a handshake.
“Y-Yes, nice to meet you. I’m Gaia. You can call me without any honorifics.”
“Got it! Then just call me Seneca too!”
Seneca gave Gaia a bright smile.
Gaia had sharp, well-defined features that made her look strict, but her attitude toward Seneca was quite gentle.
“I’m glad I got someone I can get along with as a roommate!”
With that, Seneca returned to her training.
Once Gaia finished unpacking, the two spent some time chatting. As it turned out, Gaia also had no preference for bed placement, so Seneca took the bottom bunk.
Gaia had already heard that Seneca was an S-Class scholarship student. She had been a little worried about what kind of person Seneca would be, but after meeting her, she was relieved to find that she was quite absentminded.
Geniuses with their heads in the clouds were a common trope in stories, so Gaia figured Seneca must be one of those.
“Hey, Gaia, what kind of adventurer are you? I’m a swordsman! I’m good at subjugation and gathering!”
Seneca was brimming with energy.
“I’m a mage, but I’m not great at practical magic. If anything, I guess I’m good at gathering. I’m good at memorizing information about materials.”
“Wow, really? Then we might be able to take gathering requests together!”
Gaia was a little overwhelmed by Seneca’s enthusiasm.
“Oh, right! I should tell you in advance—my skill is 【Sewing】. So sometimes I do actual sewing, but I also practice stitching up enemies, so don’t be too surprised, okay?”
As she said that, Seneca pulled out her 【Magic Needle】 and showed it to Gaia.
Gaia didn’t fully understand what was going on, but feeling pressured by Seneca’s energy, she responded, “O-Okay, got it.”
After that, the two discussed the details of their daily lives and then talked about the academy. Gaia was from a town near the royal capital and had frequently visited, so she had a lot of information.
On the other hand, despite being a scholarship student, Seneca was surprisingly ignorant of even the basics, which shocked Gaia. However, she figured that was just part of being an adventurer.
When dinnertime arrived, the two decided to head to the cafeteria.
As they opened the door, they found Maior standing right in front of them.
“Whoa, Maior! What’s up?”
“I was thinking we could head to the cafeteria together. Oh, and this must be your roommate?”
Maior politely greeted Gaia, who was standing behind Seneca.
“I’m Maior. I’m in a party with Seneca. Nice to meet you.”
“Oh, an S-Class student… I’m Gaia. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“My roommate is coming too, so why don’t we go as a group of four?”
“Of course!”
Maior knocked on the door of the adjacent room, and a red-haired, fair-skinned girl stepped out. She looked rather petite.
“H-Hello! M-my name is Plautia! It’s nice to meet you!”
She stood stiffly, bowing so vigorously it seemed like she was flapping.
Seneca peered into Plautia’s blue eyes as she greeted her.
“I’m Seneca! I’m friends with Maior here. Nice to meet you!”
“I’m Gaia. I look forward to getting along with you.”
Plautia kept bowing over and over, making a rustling sound.
“Alright then, let’s go. We can talk more at the cafeteria.”
With that, Maior started walking ahead.
