I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 67
TLN: Sorry, just this chapter for today, my head hurt as heck.
Episode 67: Techniques
A few days after the meeting in Spelunka, Seneca and Maior were brought by Attalos to the guild’s special training room.
“Alright then, as per our agreement, I’m going to teach you both the techniques I’ve learned. But first, we need to solidify the basics.”
Seneca and Maior nodded enthusiastically, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
“First off, about the term technique—beyond its general meaning, among high-ranking adventurers, it carries a more specific sense. Think of it as a skill on par with sub-skills or even primary skills. But interpretations vary from person to person, and some even use different terms for it.
For example, there are plenty of people strong with a sword without having the 【Swordsmanship】 skill, but that alone isn’t called a technique. However, if someone can explosively boost their physical abilities, like with something akin to 【Mighty Blade】 , some would definitely call that a technique.
In the church, some refer to highly advanced techniques as Divine Acts. Take old man Gradius’s disguises—they’re so flawless they feel like a completely separate skill. That’s firmly within Divine Act territory. Seneca, your magic gives off a similar vibe.”
“Gradius-san’s disguises really surprised me,” Maior chimed in, and Seneca nodded in agreement.
“Haha, right? It’s practically cheating. I know I didn’t tell you before, Maior, but that old man can be pretty devious. The church has tons of books on techniques that high-ranking clergy can access, but no one knows more about them than old man Gradius.”
“Aren’t they all well-versed in that stuff?” Maior asked.
“Not really. The higher-ups are usually too caught up in power struggles. They only bother to learn about things directly related to themselves or stuff that’s widely known. But Gradius? He’s always had the mindset of a researcher. He loves hoarding knowledge about skills and techniques.”
“That explains why he’s so connected with people in the magical field,” Seneca added.
“That’s definitely part of it. But above all, he’s someone I trust deeply. I’ve even told him that you, Seneca, are the child of Eus and Anna.”
“He knows about my father and mother?”
Seneca bounced excitedly as she asked.
“Yeah. He was in the same party as his foster child back then. High-ranking clergy often lend their names as foster parents, but Gradius is one of the few who genuinely looks after them.”
Attalos smiled slyly but then, for some reason, his expression turned a bit lonely.
“Anyway, back to the main topic. Normally, people start developing techniques in the latter half of Level 3, but you two are clearly outliers. Seneca, obviously, but even you, Maior, are showing signs of it.”
“Eh? Me?” Maior asked, wide-eyed in surprise.
“So, you hadn’t noticed. When you use your 【Detection】 skill while pouring in a ton of mana, it concentrates in your head. You’re probably enhancing your brain’s functions. Thanks to that, you’re starting to sprout the basics of physical enhancement through mana manipulation.”
“…?”
“Maior, sometimes you seem kind of spacey lately,” Seneca added with a grin.
“When it comes to the flow of mana through the body, I can sense it pretty well. And I can confirm—when you swing your sword or make a move forward, your mana subtly shifts in the direction you’re focusing your strength.”
Maior stared at her own palm in wonder, while Seneca kept nodding, oddly impressed.
“Whether you two are just that special or if the common understanding of techniques has been wrong all along, I can’t say. But I’ve heard that Seneca’s magic is the result of countless hours of effort. And based on what you’ve both told me, it seems mastering techniques early on could influence how your skills develop. So I’ll teach you. Whether you can actually learn them or not, I believe the training itself won’t go to waste.”
Both of them nodded vigorously in agreement.
“First, I want both of you to master the technique of physical enhancement. Maior, you should be able to manage it by using 【Detection】 on yourself and observing closely. Seneca, since you can already manipulate mana, I believe you’ll be able to strengthen yourself once you get the hang of it. Make this part of your daily training.”
“Understood!”
“Okay!”
“Next, I want you to learn how to channel mana into your weapons. Seneca can already do it, but her mana efficiency is poor, so she needs more practice. Maior, try it once you’ve improved your physical enhancement skills.”
Even as Attalos spoke, Maior was already struggling to move her mana.
“The key to this training is being able to control the mana all the way to the tip of your sword. Once you can properly manipulate mana away from your body, that’s when I’ll teach you the technique I’ve developed.”
“Okay!!”
Hearing about new training made Seneca so excited that she jumped up in joy.
Since Attalos’s instructions, Seneca and Maior had been secretly practicing.
Even after arriving at the Nishiro Jungle, they would seize any moment when Nina and Fabius weren’t watching to focus intensely on their mana control training.
They hadn’t told Gaia or Plautia anything, but whenever they had free time, Seneca and Maior would practice their mana control right in front of them, making sure it was obvious.
At first, Gaia wasn’t sure what they were up to, but once she started her own mana control training and noticed them leave satisfied, she realized it was some kind of signal.
Gaia quickly understood that Seneca and Maior were attempting physical enhancement. Among high-level mages, there are some who can strengthen their bodies using their own skills, and she figured that was what these two were aiming for.
Plautia only understood what was happening after Gaia explained it to her, though she still couldn’t sense the flow of mana at all. But when Maior realized that Plautia didn’t fully grasp it, she started acting in a much more obvious way.
“Hey, Plautia, when you use your skill to gather materials, your mana flows into your hands, right?”
The first time Maior pointed it out, Plautia just replied, “Oh, really?” without much thought.
But Maior kept saying the same thing every single time Plautia used her skill.
Eventually, Plautia started to feel a genuine sense of fear and went back to Gaia for advice. She kindly told her, “If you can move mana when using your skill, then with training, you might be able to do physical enhancement too.”
Relieved, Plautia smiled when she saw Maior return to her usual cheerful self after she started struggling to control her mana.
But deep down, Plautia was terrified of Maior turning into that single-phrase-repeating puppet again, so she began to train with all her might.
Nearly a month passed since Attalos’s lessons began, and each of them started to face their own challenges.
Seneca had become significantly better at controlling mana. However, she still couldn’t figure out how to use that control for physical enhancement. Despite many discussions and trial-and-error sessions with Gaia, in the end, she simply trusted her instincts and continued her training.
Maior, on the other hand, though clumsy with mana manipulation, was already capable of physical enhancement. Since her 【Detection】 ability inherently involved brain enhancement, it wasn’t too difficult for her. At this point, Maior was actually ahead in terms of progress.
However, she believed it didn’t really matter, since Seneca was more familiar with channeling mana into weapons, and would eventually pull ahead in that area.
Fortunately, within The Moonlit Oath, everyone trained at their own pace, so there was no sense of rivalry. Maior, true to her nature as a training fanatic, simply focused on pushing herself even further.
