I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 8
Episode 8: Learning The Jukeland
When Seneca woke up, she found herself lying in a private room bed.
The gentle scent in the air made her realize it was Sister Claire’s room.
Sitting up, she felt her head spinning, and her body lacked strength.
She understood—it was a case of magic depletion.
The door to the room opened, and the Director-sensei walked in.
“Seneca, you’re awake, huh?”
Seneca gave a weak nod.
“I heard you collapsed, so I went to check on you, and sure enough, there you were, passed out from magic depletion. I could tell at a glance you’d be fine, but Emily was in such a panic. Calming her down was quite the task, I tell you.”
The scene easily came to Seneca’s mind, making her grimace slightly.
“It’s been a while since you’ve run out of magic, hasn’t it? I knew you were working hard lately, but did you really have to push yourself that far?”
After a moment of thought, Seneca nodded.
“I see. If that’s the case, then fine. But you need to take care of yourself, you know? Not just for your own sake, but for the people around you too.”
The Director’s gaze was direct, and Seneca found herself unable to meet her eyes.
“You haven’t been coming to me for advice lately, have you? If you’re managing on your own, that’s fine too. You have plenty of friends by your side. But if there ever comes a time when you need help, don’t hesitate to ask. It’s the hesitation over whether to seek advice that often causes the most suffering.”
When Seneca finally looked at the Director, she saw a gentle smile.
“Seneca, I’m giving you a punishment. That punishment is to talk with everyone at the orphanage. Realize how much you made them worry about you. Don’t turn away from that.”
Then the Director gently embraced Seneca.
“Seneca, you are my precious daughter too. Don’t live so recklessly, please.”
At last, Seneca burst into tears.
She hugged the Director back, soaking in the warmth for a long while.
“Hmm…”
Seneca was lost in thought.
Since waking up, she had been speaking with everyone at the orphanage.
Sister Claire and Emily had been especially worried and scolded her a bit.
Seneca thanked them both and promised to be more careful from now on.
She also spoke with Nort and the others.
She had worried about what they might say, but surprisingly, they offered her kind words.
After a brief remark, Nort went straight back to sword training.
The incident had reached Kito as well, but Kito instantly recognized Seneca’s remorse and didn’t say much.
Seneca had been resting, and her magic had fully recovered. Though she still felt a bit sluggish, it was nothing serious.
She spent a quiet moment in her orphanage room, pondering many things.
Recalling that strange voice and its words, Seneca tried creating a 【 Magic Needle 】 . Concentrating, a needle suddenly appeared in her hand.
The needle had a thread of magic running through it, ready to sew as it was.
She tested it on a piece of Wild Bear leather. To her surprise, the needle passed through effortlessly, as though mocking all the struggles she’d faced before.
She didn’t fully understand it, but she was certain this was connected to that voice.
After pondering for a while without answers, she decided to consult Emily.
“Hey, Emily. Do you know about leveling up?”
“Yup, it’s about skills, right?”
Seneca nodded repeatedly.
“Didn’t you learn about it during study sessions, Seneca?”
Seneca felt like an audible gulp sound had just come from her.
“Leveling up means your skills improve significantly. You gain new abilities too.”
“New abilities?”
“Exactly. For example, with 【 Sewing 】 , you’d be able to make clothes super quickly or even know where to cut without needing a pattern!”
“Wow, that sounds really useful.”
“Useful doesn’t even begin to describe it! Only people who’ve worked really hard for years can reach Level 2.”
“Wait, really?”
“Really. Miton-san, the supervisor, said they’ll become independent once they reach Level 2.”
Seneca started breaking out in a nervous sweat.
“Hold on a second. How many people at Toruga-san’s shop have leveled up?”
“Toruga-san, Tunica-san, and Parla-san—three people.”
The manager, assistant manager, and the young ace of the shop—all of them seemed to have over ten years of sewing experience.
“Emily, are you aiming for Level 2?”
“Of course! If I can reach Level 2 like Parla-san, I might even get scouted by the royal capital! Isn’t that amazing?”
“Reaching Level 2 sounds really tough, huh?”
“Yeah, it’s harder than adventurers, it seems.”
“Oh, is that so?”
Upon hearing that adventurers were a different case, Seneca’s mood suddenly brightened.
“I heard that if you overcome dangers and defeat powerful enemies, you might level up.”
“That’s impressive!”
“Once you reach Level 2, any skill becomes strong enough to qualify as Bronze rank. That’s how powerful it is. But I’ve also heard of some people reaching Gold rank even at Level 2.”
“R-really?”
So, even for adventurers, it didn’t seem like an easy feat.
“Do those people have really exceptional skills or something?”
The thought of Lucius crossed her mind, but Seneca decided not to bring it up, fearing it might complicate things.
“Hey, Emily, how exactly do you level up anyway? For 【 Sewing 】 , does it mean making lots of clothes? And for 【 Swordsmanship 】 , does it mean defeating lots of strong enemies?”
“Each skill has something called proficiency points, and accumulating those seems to be the key. For 【 Sewing】 , making more challenging clothes is said to increase proficiency faster.”
“So for combat skills, fighting stronger enemies increases that proficiency faster, right?”
“That seems to be the case.”
In society, this was referred to as “earning high-level proficiency.”
Seneca mused that in terms of combat skills, using leather from strong enemies might equate to a high-level challenge. She began considering ways to efficiently accumulate proficiency.
After carefully examining the properties of her magic needle and thread, Seneca decided to venture out for some monster hunting.
She discovered that the needle’s length and shape could be adjusted. If she could adapt it to different situations, it would be highly versatile.
Its piercing power and strength were remarkable. With precise control of her magic, she suspected the needle could even sew through wood. However, she noticed that sometimes it worked as intended, and sometimes it didn’t. She resolved to figure out why.
Additionally, her magic manipulation had significantly improved, likely as a result of leveling up.
The thread’s thickness and properties could also be altered. It had slight elasticity, allowing it to stretch or shrink a bit, which might prove useful.
Both the needle and thread would disappear if left unattended for about half a day. Seneca also learned that by simply concentrating and thinking “cancel,” she could make them vanish instantly.
She didn’t yet know all the ways to use them, but for now, testing them on actual monsters seemed like a good starting point.
