I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 85
Episode 85: A New Power
Seneca and the others had traveled far from the royal capital to fulfill Apiana’s request.
Up until now, they had often relied on shared carriages for transportation, but with their increased earnings from higher-paying commissions, they had started renting mid-tier carriages for exclusive use. They still hired coachmen for now, but they were practicing so they could eventually handle the reins themselves.
Time constraints were another reason they opted for mid-tier carriages. Since Seneca and the others were students, the time they could dedicate to requests was limited. The more difficult the request, the farther from the capital it tended to be, making faster travel a necessity to reduce transit time.
Balancing rigorous coursework while building their reputations as adventurers meant that students of the Royal Academy of Adventurers naturally developed the habit of optimizing their limited time. As a result, graduates earned high levels of trust, and commissions from the nobility increased organically.
As each member grew stronger, the party’s fighting style naturally evolved.
Seneca remained on the front lines, Gaia took the rear, while Maior and Plautia moved fluidly between the front and middle lines—this basic formation hadn’t changed, but their combat approach had.
First, Plautia had developed the ability to [Select] and extract components directly from plants using 【Plant Gathering】. She could now wield poison-infused wooden swords like she had during the battle against Pulcher or extract combat-enhancing substances from materials at hand, vastly expanding her tactical versatility.
She had also mastered a skill to craft simple medicines on the spot using the extracted plant components. This allowed her to quickly treat minor injuries with locally sourced ingredients. By combining this with Seneca’s 【Suture】 technique, they could perform highly effective treatments, significantly improving their ability to sustain prolonged engagements. (TLN: Suture is sewing but for medical purpose, it’s the same but different)
Maior, having leveled up, had become an even more prominent presence. While it would take time to fully control her enhanced physical abilities, her combat power had undeniably increased. Compared to Seneca and Plautia’s dynamic pairing, the combination of Seneca and Maior leaned more toward defense, with Maior honing her defensive techniques.
When Maior fully immersed herself in combat, she increasingly left command decisions to Plautia. Plautia’s leadership was sharp and keen-eyed, providing a sense of stability.
Gaia, on the other hand, had reached a point where she could cast magic up to five times a day if she reduced its power. She had also gained the ability to adjust the concentration and spread of her spells, enhancing her adaptability. Her expanded range of attack was particularly significant, making her crucial in breaking through difficult situations.
Moreover, Gaia excelled at identifying gaps in tactics and leadership. She would sometimes offer direct feedback to Maior and Plautia or adjust her own positioning to reinforce unstable areas. Her skill with a slingshot had also improved tremendously, adding further stability to the party.
With the three of them growing stronger, Seneca’s burden had lessened, giving her more freedom to maneuver. Her ability to read battlefield conditions had sharpened, further amplifying her knack for achieving objectives in unexpected ways.
As Attalos had said, Maior could feel the growth of the entire party. And yet, there was still plenty of room for improvement.
“I’ll go!”
Maior launched herself forward, activating her sub-skill 【Foresight】 . She had already left command in Plautia’s hands.
Ahead of her loomed a Lambas, a serpent-type monster. It had a humanoid upper body like a Lamia but was covered in more scales, making it even more snake-like.
As her sub-skill activated, the outline of the Lambas wavered, generating multiple overlapping images—each one a projection of its potential future movements. Maior stepped in further, preparing for any possible attack, and swung her sword.
Her movements altered the Lambas’ future.
If her actions were too sluggish, the number of projected images increased, reflecting the monster’s growing options.
Conversely, if her movements were precise and aggressive, the enemy’s possible actions narrowed, reducing the number of images.
By pressing forward, Maior forced the Lambas into a corner—its future possibilities collapsed into a single path. Seizing the moment, she swung her sword with full force, decapitating it.
Zoon.
A crushing weight settled on Maior’s head, an indescribable heaviness. It was as if her mind had become shrouded in fog, preventing her from thinking clearly.
The newly acquired 【Foresight】 was incredibly effective in predicting enemy movements, but the overwhelming influx of magical and sensory data made it unsustainable beyond a few seconds.
Maior had thought she was getting used to handling information overload, but the strain from using 【Foresight】 was on a whole different level.
“Maior-chan, fall back!”
At Plautia’s call, Maior withdrew to her original position.
Activating 【Detection】, Maior sensed a group of Rhinoceros Beetles ahead in their path. These creatures were heavily armored and notoriously time-consuming to take down.
“Gaia, magic please.”
Saying that, Maior activated 【Shared Vision】 with Gaia. Now, Gaia could perceive the distant movements of the Rhinoceros Beetles as well.
Gaia concentrated his magical energy, preparing for a precise shot. The distance was sufficient—there was no way the enemy would notice them.
When the time was right, Maior activated 【Trajectory】 as well. Since the Rhinoceros Beetles had simple movement patterns, predicting their actions became much easier.
Gaia unleashed 【Artillery Magic】, firing a concentrated burst of magical energy. The spinning projectile shot straight ahead, piercing cleanly through the beetle’s head, instantly killing it.
This was yet another new combination technique. Gaia’s sniping accuracy wasn’t particularly high yet, but against large, slow-moving targets, she could land her shots. Meanwhile, Maior’s detection range and precision had improved significantly, further increasing her contributions to the party.
After being outmatched by Keith in sheer technical skill, Seneca had been focusing on refining her fundamentals. Equipped with the new sword she had acquired in the royal capital, she dedicated herself to relentless practice swings.
Though she had increased the time spent on foundational training, she continued her magical studies as well. Recently, she had even succeeded in infusing her magical energy with a faint healing effect—something that left Secunda exasperated. Plautia and Gaia exchanged uneasy glances, but Maior was unsurprised.
Seneca mentioned that once her healing technique stabilized, she planned to experiment with converting it into lightning-based magic next. No one could quite understand how she managed to turn blind trial and error into real results, but Maior had started to accept that, with Seneca, anything was possible.
“Seneca! A Snailman is coming from the front! Take care of it!”
Maior’s voice rang out.
A Snailman was a humanoid land-mollusk monster. It inhabited damp forests, and the shape of its shell varied by region. In this area, they tended to have elongated, spiral shells.
Seneca channeled magic into his katana. Thanks to her recent training, the energy flowed smoothly into the blade without resistance. She then converted the magic and activated an ice-based spell.
By repeatedly watching Attalos’ techniques, Seneca had managed to recreate a pseudo-magical sword. Although it lacked the refinement of a true magic sword, she could augment it further with the power of 【Suture】, greatly enhancing its effectiveness.
Seneca 【Sewing】 the air, propelling herself forward at high speed.
In an instant, she closed the distance to the Snailman and struck.
The moment her blade touched its shell, a sharp “Zzzt!” sound rang out.
Even the Snailman’s tough outer shell couldn’t withstand Seneca’s strike—it was cleanly severed. Its soft body, weakened by the ice magic, was effortlessly sliced through.
With a single, decisive slash, the Snailman was cleaved in two, returning to the forest as nourishment.
