I Will Be Unrivaled With The Skill [Sewing]! They Said It Was A Bad Skill, But With Effort, I will Make It A Hit~ - Chapter 88
TLN: Sorry for putting the chapter behind the coin, economy has been skydiving so I need some income. If there’s some donation I will lift some chapters of this series and the”Trio Idiot” series. Thank you
Episode 88: Trail
The four of them arrived at Vermis Canyon.
Before them stretched the vastness of nature.
The first time they came, they had sighed in awe at the spectacular view. But by the fifth time, there was no longer any sense of wonder—only sighs of a different kind.
The path through Vermis Canyon was grueling.
Beyond the sheer difficulty and danger of the terrain, its overwhelming scale slowly gnawed away at their spirits.
Even after walking for hours, they could still see their starting point. A place that looked like it was just within reach could take half a day to actually get to. And there were many such places.
While trekking through the forested areas, which were relatively safe, they kept conversations going to maintain their alertness. However, their discussions were frequently interrupted whenever one of them spotted an interesting creature.
Plautia had been training to identify plants, which made her quick at spotting them.
It was common to see her suddenly exclaim, “Ah!” and scurry off. Her ability to recognize objects at the edge of her vision had developed to the point where she could instantly pick out plants of interest. She didn’t always find useful ones, but the odds were high.
Gaia had a similar skill, though her specialty was insects. The moment a bug entered her line of sight, she would suddenly take off running. Many rare insects were valuable as ingredients for expensive potions, so the party frequently benefited from her expertise. Sometimes, just by glancing at an area, she would declare, “There should be some of those bugs here,” and sure enough, she would find them.
Seneca was skilled at spotting animals and their tracks, with a particular expertise in birds.
Finding a bird hidden in the shadows of the forest was no easy task, but Seneca could pick them out in an instant. She could also identify them by their calls, which was valuable information for the party’s exploration.
Maior, surrounded by these three, was improving her general skills across the board.
During their searches, she habitually used 【Detection】, which had trained her eye to notice even the smallest changes in the environment.
Now that she had reached Level 3, the resolution of her detection ability had further increased—she could sense the movement of monsters even from afar. Although this perspective was from above, it allowed her to observe distant monsters as if they were close by. Additionally, if something seemed off, she could use 【Shared Vision】 to show it to his companions, significantly enhancing the party’s stability.
………
As Seneca walked, Maior suddenly spoke. She had detected a monster.
“There’s a pack of Dorfs. Seven of them. What do we do?”
“Fight them.”
“I’m fine either way.”
“Let’s go for it.”
Dorfs were dog-like monsters. With their party, handling up to ten of them at once was manageable. The fur around their necks fetched a decent price.
“Alright, let’s do it. They’re southeast.”
Seneca walked in the direction Maior pointed.
Moving carefully to avoid making noise, they soon spotted the Dorf pack. Seneca slowly drew her sword.
“Alright, Seneca, you’re up.”
After exchanging a glance with Maior and nodding, Seneca dashed forward.
Noticing her approach, four of the Dorfs turned to face her.
As she ran, she conjured four 【Mana Needles】 and fired them at each target.
Vwhooom!
With a loud burst, all four needles shot forward at once.
“Yelp!”
Three hit their marks, but one Dorf managed to dodge.
Ideally, she would have used Shadow Sew to immobilize them, but in the dense forest, the shadows were too large. The bigger the shadow, the more mana it took to use the skill, making it impractical.
Instead, Seneca remotely manipulated the embedded needles, sewing through the Dorfs’ skin.
“Yip!”
The Dorfs howled in distress. Having needles wriggling under their skin must have felt unbearable.
“I’ve got this one!”
It was Plautia’s voice. The Dorf that had dodged her attack was now being handled by her from behind.
Seneca advanced, still controlling the three embedded needles.
One Dorf lunged at her, but she sidestepped, twisting her body, and slashed across its torso.
Seeing their comrade split in two, two Dorfs panicked and tried to flee.
Seneca increased the intensity of the needle inside the one on the right, making it stitch through the creature’s insides.
Instead of running, the Dorf tumbled to the ground, rolling in circles in agony.
While keeping the right-side Dorf pinned down, Seneca leaped at the one on the left, slashing down from its back. Her blade sank deep—she judged it to be a fatal wound.
She then turned back to the Dorf she had just stitched internally and this time, she severed its neck.
After taking down three Dorfs, she surveyed the area.
Plautia was facing off against another Dorf. At her feet lay a defeated one—she must have already dealt with the rear guard and moved on to the next.
“Firing!”
“Shooting!”
Voices rang out from behind.
A slingshot stone and an arrow shot forward, striking two Dorfs in the distance and felling them.
“We’re done here too!”
Plautia had also taken care of her second Dorf, marking the end of the battle.
The four of them approached the corpses, confirmed they were truly dead, and carefully harvested their pelts.
As they walked, staying on guard for more enemies, Seneca found herself lost in thought.
What exactly is Shadow Sewing?
What does it mean to “sew the air”?
She was questioning her own skill.
When she activated Shadow Sewing, she could pin shadows down in exchange for a large amount of mana. This rendered the target immobile. The binding was strong, but someone with exceptional physical reinforcement could break free. Increasing the mana output made the binding more powerful, but also consumed energy at an alarming rate.
There was supposedly a skill known as 【Shadow Magic】 , which allowed users to manipulate shadows with spells. According to a book she read, it also enabled the caster to infuse their magic into shadows to strengthen them.
For some reason, Seneca’s 【Mana Needles】 could interact with shadows.
It was just a gut feeling, but she suspected there was a similar principle at play—perhaps akin to how 【Shadow Magic】 transferred magic into shadows.
And then there was the idea of stitching air—an ability so bizarre that she still couldn’t grasp its mechanics, despite using it frequently.
Why did sewing air make her move faster?
Seneca pondered deeply.
Simply by thinking “sew the air,” her body was pulled forward.
She could move in any direction—up, down, left, right—allowing her to fight three-dimensionally.
Unlike Shadow Sewing, 【Mana Needles】 weren’t required.
Sometimes she visualized herself as a needle sewing through space, but even without a clear image, the technique activated just by thinking of stitching the air.
A similar technique she often used was “weaving through the trees”—by envisioning herself as a needle, she could dart through forests at high speed.
Yet, sewing between trees and sewing air felt fundamentally different.
The way the skill activated, its speed, and its mana consumption—everything about sewing air felt alien.
Through intense training, she had gained many new abilities.
Now, she could control three 【Mana Needles】 independently.
If she moved at the same time, her control became rougher, but it was perfect for creating distractions. She could probably even embroider while fighting at this point—her skill had advanced that much.
And yet, the mysteries never ceased.
The [Sewing] skill was endlessly fascinating.
As Seneca continued her trek through the grueling mountain path, her steps felt just a little lighter—though only she noticed.
