Chapter 10: The Cherished Immortal Lord (9)
The woman’s smile carried a mix of desolation and helplessness. When she spoke, her tone held a certain certainty: “It was Lord Beishang who sent me to find you.”
Xi Yu asked in astonishment, “Who did you say?”
Seeing Xi Yu’s reaction, the woman emphasized her words, repeating them, “Lord Beishang.”
These four words indeed shook Xi Yu slightly, but it wasn’t enough to make him agree immediately.
He had suffered losses in the past—no one’s words were entirely trustworthy. Most people would exploit others’ weaknesses to achieve their goals. Xi Yu said, “How can I trust you?”
The woman replied, “I know you. You were once that little disciple in Huaxi Manor who always had his nose buried in books. In the past, when I caused trouble, my soul and body were suppressed in Luonan Mountain, and I couldn’t escape.”
The woman paused, observing Xi Yu’s expression.
Seeing him frown slightly in thought, she continued, “A few days ago, I heard two heavenly thunderclaps that almost shattered my soul. I thought I was about to dissipate completely. But when I regained consciousness, I found myself on Huaxi Mountain!”
A few days ago, during the thunder strike? Xi Yu quickly asked, “What did you see?”
“You were lying on the ground, praying for Lord Beishang’s protection.”
Xi Yu suddenly remembered. Indeed, just before his death, unwilling to accept his fate, he had prayed to Lord Beishang, hoping for a second chance at life.
The woman said, “After you fainted, I saw Lord Beishang. He told me you had come to the mortal world and could help me. However, given your temperament, he thought if I approached you directly, I might not even catch a glimpse of you. So, he set up a trap and mentioned that if all else failed, I could invoke his name.”
Lord Beishang truly knew him well.
But why did he want him to help her?
The woman looked at him, puzzled. “By the way, are you Shenfei the High God? If so, why couldn’t you withstand two bolts of heavenly thunder after thousands of years?”
Just the thought of it was annoying. With a dark expression, Xi Yu replied, “I was struck by lightning.”
“What?”
Listening to this conversation between a man and a ghost in a pitch-black room felt eerie. Luo Yang couldn’t hold back and gave himself a reality check to ensure he was still alive. He interjected, “He failed his ascension, got struck by lightning, died, and then woke up here.”
The woman clearly hadn’t expected this explanation and didn’t know how to respond.
Xi Yu didn’t want to continue the topic. “What do you want me to do?”
Although the female ghost used the man’s voice to speak, she couldn’t fully control his body. The man mustered some strength and fumbled in the dark. He suddenly grabbed Luo Yang’s ankle, startling him into a leap, but he couldn’t break free. The man yanked hard, forcing Luo Yang into an awkward split.
The man, like a wild beast acting on instinct, lunged at Luo Yang, pinning him down as if he were a lifeline. No matter how much Luo Yang struggled, punching and kicking, the man wouldn’t let go.
Xi Yu hurried to pull the man off, only to have his hand grabbed. The woman screamed, “Don’t come! Don’t come! I can’t control him!”
“Why is he suddenly so agitated?” Xi Yu wondered aloud and then tried to reason with him, “Did you grab the wrong person? He’s not the one who attacked you earlier.”
“…”
Even in such a crisis, his words were as provoking as ever. Before Xi Yu could complain, he was struck by a sudden realization.
Indeed, if the man had attacked the wrong person, given his nature, he would have immediately changed targets. He wouldn’t stop until he vented his rage on Xi Yu.
Yet now, he was clutching Luo Yang more ferociously, without saying a word to negotiate or bargain.
So, the man hadn’t regained control but was being manipulated by a second party—someone other than the female ghost!
This second party intended to stop the ghost from revealing the truth!
The woman’s voice grew fainter and fainter. The man let out a low growl, anger spilling from his throat.
Xi Yu quickly reacted, shouting, “What do you want me to do to save you?”
“Luonan…”
Before she could finish, the man let out a piercing scream, and her voice vanished completely.
At that moment, the man took advantage of Xi Yu’s distraction and lunged at him. Just as he was about to reach Xi Yu, it was as if he hit an invisible wall, rebounding violently and crashing to the ground.
“Ah—”
A lazy yawn broke the tension, tinged with irritation at being disturbed. Xi Yu took a step back, watching as the dark energy dispersed throughout the room began converging into a humanoid shape. From the black mist emerged a young boy, stretching and yawning. “Good evening, everyone!”
His entrance was both extravagant and eerie. After his greeting, the room fell silent for a moment, the atmosphere awkward.
A cheerful voice broke the silence. “I don’t mean to ruin the mood, but it’s just past noon.”
“Really?” The boy seemed genuinely thoughtful, glancing at the window before shrugging. “Most people summon me at night, so I’m used to it. But no worries—wherever I am, it’s night.”
Luo Yang, incredulous, exclaimed, “Holy crap, it’s really a ghost!”
The ghost boy grinned mischievously. “What else? Did you think I was you?”
Luo Yang backed away, waving his hands. “You are, you are. No doubt about it.”
He kept retreating until he hit a wall, then shuffled to the side. “Ah—” He let out a sharp cry, having accidentally stepped on the hairy-legged man’s hand. Panicking, he lifted his foot and hastily apologized.
“Great Ghost Sir!”
The hairy-legged man, realizing the situation had taken a turn, immediately shifted his attitude. Dropping to his knees, he banged his head on the floor twice, pleading earnestly, “Great Ghost Sir, forgive my disrespect!”
The ghost boy laughed. “You’re too kind. But let me ask, were you the one who summoned me?”
“Yes, yes, it was me!” The hairy-legged man eagerly admitted, pointing at the others. “Kill them! Kill them quickly!”
The ghost boy apologized with a smile. “Sorry, I don’t kill people.”
The hairy-legged man felt tricked and glared at him. “Then what can you do?”
The room grew tense, oppressive. Xi Yu noticed the black mist starting to gather around the hairy-legged man, slowly enveloping him until only his twisted face was visible.
The man roared in anger. “If you can’t kill them, can you at least torment them? Make their lives miserable—not just this one, but the next as well! No reincarnation!”
“None of that.” The ghost boy kindly reminded him, “Next time you summon me, make sure to do your research. Oh, wait—you don’t have a next time.”
The man’s final outburst was swallowed by the black mist. When it dispersed, he was gone.
The ghost boy clapped his hands, looking satisfied. “Not that impressive, really. But his sins were plenty—definitely no reincarnation for him.”
With the matter resolved, the ghost boy didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he stared at Xi Yu for a while.
Xi Yu kept his distance, asking, “Do you need something?”
The ghost boy replied nonchalantly, “I feel like I’ve seen you before.”
Xi Yu: “?”
“Have we met? My name is Mo Daier.”
Xi Yu repeated the name softly and replied frankly, “Never heard of it.”
The young man, showing no fear, struck up a conversation with Mo Daier. “That name sounds unique.”
The ghost boy nodded, complimenting him, “You’ve got taste. I’m not local—my ancestors came from abroad. We spoke English back home. My name is the Chinese translation.”
This statement baffled Xi Yu. “English? You sing it?”
The ghost boy mistook Xi Yu’s furrowed brow as displeasure and hurried to clarify, “I’ve already adapted to the local culture. I can’t even explain English myself. Anyway, enough chatting. I’ll take my leave. See you around!”
Silence fell once again. After a while, Luo Yang’s voice broke through, “Is he really gone? Why can’t I see anything?”
Can’t see anything?
Xi Yu glanced around. Although surrounded by darkness, he could clearly make out his surroundings, even the subtle expressions on Luo Yang’s face.
Could it be that only he could see?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, the young man suddenly moved away. The path between the window and the bed was narrow, cluttered with chairs, yet the young man maneuvered through effortlessly without pausing. He reached the window and grabbed the curtain.
With a pull, a dazzling golden light poured in…
