It's a Gender-Reversed World, But I Don't Go Out Anyway - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Average of 400 Viewers
* * *
[“Why did that ‘big package'[1] guy end his stream?”]
It’s the first time I’ve seen someone end their stream right after hitting their highest viewer count.
[Comments]
– Maybe he doesn’t want to leech viewers?
– Seems like Yeonhee drained all his energy, he’s usually the type to keep his tension high
– But isn’t that guy usually high-energy too?
– Probably got turned off by the chat. Honestly, there was a sexual joke every three seconds
– But what can you do if it’s exciting
– Who’s this ‘big package’ guy anyway?
– Wait, you don’t know big package?
– From today on, we ‘Big Package Squad’ will take over this gallery
– What the hell is Big Package Squad now?
“What’s this email about?”
When I woke up in the morning, there was a Naver Mail notification. Come to think of it, I did share my email on Twis. Though I also wrote that I’d sue anyone who sent prank emails.
Since I had blocked most spam, I opened it to check.
“Super Stream Entertainment… where is this?”
An email had come from some company.
Reading through it, it contained generic praise about how they enjoyed my stream and saw potential, along with asking if we could talk. I had no idea who they were, so I searched and found they were an MCN company.
An MCN company is apparently like a talent agency for streamers and YouTubers, similar to entertainment agencies for celebrities.
Since I only learned this through searching, I honestly don’t know much about it. The problem with Super Stream Entertainment is that despite its flashy name, it has very few creators signed with them, and secondly, even those creators aren’t currently active. So I won’t be joining them.
But it made me curious.
What if a more legitimate place reached out?
Looking at the benefits, they mainly help connect you with YouTube editors, find advertisements and sponsors, and assist with content development.
Honestly, preparing content seemed bothersome, and ads and sponsorships sounded tiring, but YouTube intrigued me.
Well, I don’t know much, but when people say even those with decent jobs sometimes make more from YouTube… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested.
“Getting ahead of myself over one email.”
Honestly, I had no plans to accept any agency or advertising deals until my streaming became more stable.
Checking the time before starting the stream, it was 4 PM.
4 PM – an awkward time, but I’d decided this would be my streaming schedule.
At first, I thought evening streams were definitely better, but I found these odd hours had their own merits. Of course, there were advantages to evening streams since viewer numbers suddenly increased when office workers and students got off. However, evening hours were also a red ocean.
A competitive landscape overflowing with both viewers and streamers.
So how about 4 PM? While there weren’t many viewers since people hadn’t gotten off work yet, there weren’t many streamers either. When someone who’d become vaguely famous like me started streaming, people were more likely to drop by thinking… well, there’s nothing else to watch.
That was one reason, but honestly, this time just felt comfortable for both body and mind.
The heat would start dying down, I could sleep in as much as I wanted, and anyway, looking at my main viewer base, they seemed mostly unemployed so I didn’t need to consider office workers’ or students’ schedules.
What I just said was just for show though.
It was what I’d prepared to say if viewers asked why I chose this time slot.
Seems pretty good.
When I started streaming, people came in.
100 viewers didn’t excite me anymore. They say humans are creatures of habit. I should be happy, but my body had become unsatisfied with just 100 viewers.
[Daeha[2]]
[What’s Daeha? Oh, Daeju hi?]
[No, you know, that big shrimp]
[???]
[Info: What Daeha (big shrimp) and Daeju have in common is that they both look delicious.]
[10 points… 10 points…]
Indeed, after getting used to it, even these disgusting chat messages started making me laugh a bit.
I was starting to understand the saying about giving one more rice cake to the troublemaker. Though this probably wasn’t the right context for that saying.
200 viewers.
300 viewers.
The rapidly growing viewer count approached 400, then the growth slowed, fluctuating up and down while maintaining around 400.
Honestly, I was satisfied. I hadn’t known the impact of the collab with Yeonhee would be this big – as expected, there really was something different about corporate streamers. Plus, when I checked this morning, a video was already up on Yeonhee’s YouTube less than a day later, which probably brought in more viewers.
[Where’s the streamer]
[If you don’t come out right now, this chat won’t survive]
[It hasn’t even been 3 minutes, guys. Even instant ramen takes 3 minutes…]
[Baby, Big Package Squad doesn’t know that. Give us Daeju.]
“What the hell is Big Package Squad?”
There was a term I couldn’t just ignore, and while I was planning to play hard to get and come out slowly, I couldn’t hold back anymore.
[Your fan club]
[It’s our name. Cool, right?]
[Not giving it even if you want it]
“No thanks, just go with Daeju Squad. Anyone who says Big Package Squad gets banned.”
[Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad!]
ㄴ [User has been forcibly removed]
[You can’t stop us all with power! Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad! Big Package Squad!]
ㄴ [User has been forcibly removed]
[Kim Hyeji: lol Daeju Squad rolls off the tongue better anyway, so yes sir! ^^7]
ㄴ [User has been forcibly removed]
Reluctantly, following my threat, the Big Package Squad transformed into the Daeju Squad.
[Kim Hyeji has donated ₩10,000]
– Why the f*ck am I
“Oh? Made a mistake. Thanks for the 10k. Released!”
[Releasing just like that lol]
[Too lenient on yourself, you b*tch]
[Yangachi: So this is how you extort… I’m taking notes^^]
[How are you still standing after that ban machine gun lol]
[True, it’s Hyeji’s fault]
[Kim Hyeji: f*ck… my lunch money…]
I felt a bit sorry for the viewer who got banned by mistake and came back through a donation.
“Um… should I refund it?”
[Kim Hyeji: No, I’m rich you know? Keep it]
[This crazy girl lol I was touched by Daeju for a moment but she ruined it lol]
[Thought she got extorted but turns out she was flexing her poverty lol]
[Still, our Daeju is nice. Some streamers even ask for bus fare donations.]
Feeling somehow treated like a beggar for no reason, I secretly muted them for 10 minutes, which made me feel a bit better.
I realized I shouldn’t let my heart soften.
“Alright, today we’ll quickly go for Gold promotion… and if there’s time after promotion… um, either StarCraft or mukbang.”
StarCraft or mukbang.
The reason I mentioned these two options was because they were currently the hottest content. For some reason, most streamers, including those from big companies, had started playing StarCraft, and mukbang had been trending on YouTube and other platforms for a long time… honestly, I just threw it out there. Most people here were hardcore gamers who loved games, and they probably watched other streams too, so they’d choose StarCraft.
[What’s StarCraft?]
[Ur]
[Gent]
[It’s a folk game]
[You don’t know StarCraft…?]
The moment StarCraft was mentioned, these messages popped up, and it was quite shocking personally.
I mean, I’m not that old, but has the era of people not knowing StarCraft already come? Then what do these kids do during computer class, Pikachu Volleyball?
While I was still recovering from this shock, the viewers actually latched onto something else.
[Mukbang?]
[Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Sam Kim? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on? Cam on?]
[There’s something weird in the middle.]
[Daeju doing mukbang? I’m already drooling lol]
[I’m excited]
[Don’t be]
“Ah! Just to note, I won’t be turning the cam on.”
[A mukbang without cam?]
[??? What’s that supposed to be]
[Just listen to the sounds? Ah lol imaginary mukbang, getting hungry already lol]
[But thinking about the ice cream time, it might not be bad?]
[Is that so?]
“Okay, let’s vote. Just type 1 or 2 in chat. 1 is for StarCraft, 2 is for mukbang.”
[2222222222222]
[2]
[1]
[2 read the room you boomer and choose 2]
[2;;]
“Ah! Unfortunately, we’ve decided on 1, StarCraft.”
[???]
[wtf]
[Oh, so this is Russia lol 300% voter turnout would be nothing here lol]
“Why? Because… I’m full today.”
I was surprised because I ran the vote expecting StarCraft to win easily, but the majority chose mukbang.
Why did these gaming addicts suddenly lean towards mukbang? Ice cream? What’s that about?
Anyway, I forced it through. I’m not sure how other streams would handle this situation, but since my concept from the start was positioned as someone crazy for attention, people just reacted with ‘typical of this guy’ and moved on.
With mixed feelings about whether I should be happy or sad about this, I launched League.
“Alright, let’s get started right away.”
Checking the viewers one last time: 400.
I smiled as I confirmed the average viewer count of 400.

(End of Chapter)
T/N:
1. It’s a pun on our mc’s streamer name.
2. A pun on “large shrimp” and the mc’s nickname “Daeju” (대주).
