Let Me Go, I’m Not Pregnant - Chapter 20
The secret guard had already fled, leaving Chang’an standing there frozen like a stick.
He hesitated for a moment, his mind slowly catching up, and then stared blankly at Luo Shen.
In the next moment, Chang’an suddenly snapped out of it and hurried forward. Just as he was about to speak, the sharp gaze of Luo Shen swept over him, and he trembled, suddenly hesitating.
Gu Xingzhi, holding onto the person, took two steps and reached the head of the bed. He extended his hand, about to lift the covers.
Luo Shen shivered and, with closed eyes, covered the other person’s eyes. “Don’t look!”
Chang’an: “…”
He suddenly had a foreboding feeling.
He was about to speak, but it felt like something was in his mouth. Chang’an chewed it and realized it was just a piece of pastry.
He swallowed the pastry and was about to speak when a slightly cool hand suddenly covered his eyes again.
Chang’an: “…”
Luo Shen covered his eyes with one hand and his mouth with the other, then turned to give a meaningful look to Chang’an, indicating that he should take Changxin away quickly.
Chang’an, somewhat unsteady on his feet, went to fetch a shadow guard and instructed him to move the person back.
As the shadow guard descended from the roof, he glanced at the Emperor, then at Gu Xingzhi. Suddenly, it struck him that this person was the one brought back by Changxin the other day?
So, the Emperor had already decided to include Gu Xingzhi in the palace?
He hid a smile behind his face mask and happily carried Changxin away.
This slight commotion certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Gu Xingzhi. Combined with Luo Shen’s delicate touch, he could still catch a glimpse of Luo Shen’s anxious profile and the reddening neck through the gaps between his fingers.
His heart skipped a beat unconsciously.
He cleared his throat and thought, if Luo Shen weren’t the Emperor, or if they didn’t have a complicated history, Luo Shen would indeed be to his liking.
But…
Thinking of the person hidden under the covers, he gritted his teeth.
Emperor, there’s still some repairs to be done.
Luo Shen, who was unaware of the impending “repair,” couldn’t help but arch his back, his neck almost twisted as he strained to see. When he finally noticed that the person on the bed had disappeared, he quickly had Chang’an arrange some of his old clothes on the bed.
With their unspoken understanding developed over the years, Chang’an immediately understood and started to pick out a few pieces of clothing to put on the bed, covering them with a blanket.
Seeing that everything was set, Luo Shen let out a sigh of relief. He turned his head, staring at the back of his hand, and suddenly caught a glimpse of those deep pupils through his fingers.
For a moment, his breath caught.
“Um…,” Luo Shen’s lips trembled slightly, and his hands weren’t very steady. He tried to interlock his fingers to salvage the situation, but it seemed like he couldn’t do it properly now.
Luo Shen shivered and instinctively took a step back. Then he felt the hand holding his leg loosen, and he almost stumbled. He quickly hugged the neck of Gu Xingzhi in fear.
His furry head nuzzled against Gu Xingzhi’s neck, making Gu Xingzhi’s heart skip a beat. He lowered his gaze, looking at the intricate dragon pattern on the clothes of the person in his arms, then raised his eyes to stare at Chang’an, who was standing there nervously, neither running nor staying.
Chang’an: “…”
So, how did things end up like this?
Should he pretend he didn’t see anything?
After receiving Gu Xingzhi’s gaze, he understood.
Then, Chang’an turned his head, his calf trembling slightly, and he quickly left.
“Your Majesty, you can come down now,” Gu Xingzhi said, taking a deep breath, attempting to remove the bundle from his body.
Luo Shen’s hand tightened again.
Gu Xingzhi stood as tall as a pine, composed and dignified in his dark robe, his presence exuding a sense of grace and charm. His voice was exceptionally gentle, “Your Majesty, please come down. I truly won’t harm you.”
Luo Shen shivered again, remaining silent. When all was still around them, with the cool breeze carrying crumbs from the pastries, he slowly lifted his head to look around, then at Gu Xingzhi. He released his grip, letting his hand fall to the ground, then quickly retreated five steps.
“I am the Emperor,” Luo Shen said with little confidence. Indeed, he was the Emperor, but Gu Xingzhi held the decree of the late Emperor, which he had seen personally. It granted full authority to Gu Xingzhi for handling matters.
In other words, he could use the decree to reprimand the current Emperor, which was none other than Luo Shen himself.
That means… Luo Shen.
Gu Xingzhi remained still, his calm eyes fixed on Luo Shen. For some reason, his anger from moments ago had completely dissipated, and he seemed to understand why the late Emperor had favored him so much.
Even though he was the Supreme Ruler, there was always a trace of vulnerability about him, as if he hadn’t fully shed the protection of the late Emperor, making it hard for people to remain stern.
He sighed, but this canary seemed to have gone a bit… crooked?
Gu Xingzhi turned his head to look at the bed.
Seeing that Gu Xingzhi was still unyielding, Luo Shen gave up struggling and turned around, saying, “Go ahead, check if you want to check. It’s just a bed. I had it placed here for resting anytime, and there’s nothing inside!”
After saying this, he couldn’t help but turn his head slightly, sneaking a glance at Gu Xingzhi’s reaction.
Despite knowing that the person on the bed had already been taken away, Gu Xingzhi, surprisingly, played along with Luo Shen’s act and walked up to the bed, lifting the covers.
With just one glance, his expression froze.
Luo Shen shot him a look and said, “I told you there’s no one hidden here.”
Gu Xingzhi slowly covered the person back with the blanket and said, “Indeed, I didn’t see a person, but I did see a pile of clothes. May I ask if these clothes… belong to Your Majesty?”
Luo Shen’s voice immediately sounded, confidently saying, “Of course, they all belong to me! In this palace, can there be clothes belonging to anyone else?”
Gu Xingzhi closed his eyes briefly. He remembered that Chang’an had stuffed the clothes in earlier. Why did Chang’an want to include the clothes they had worn on that night when they spent it together?
Could it be… they wanted him to think these clothes were worn by the Emperor?
His gaze shifted slightly, and when he looked at Luo Shen, there was a hint of pity in his eyes.
He never expected that an Emperor could be deceived like this without any awareness. If he didn’t give a hint, he might end up with nothing left, not even his bones.
Fortunately, that person had already run away.
Gu Xingzhi said, “Your Majesty, do you take me for a fool?”
Luo Shen’s body stiffened.
“Turn around.”
Luo Shen obediently turned around.
Gu Xingzhi once again lifted the blanket. “Your Majesty, please take a look. Are all these clothes on top here yours?”
Luo Shen’s eyes fell on one particularly conspicuous piece of clothing, and he was instantly dumbfounded.
“This… this… this…”
His face turned pale in an instant.
Gu Xingzhi noticed that Luo Shen’s reaction seemed a bit exaggerated and became concerned. “Your Majesty?”
Luo Shen looked at Gu Xingzhi, almost on the verge of tears.
Why had Chang’an included this particular clothing? Didn’t he tell him to get rid of it?
Oh no, could Gu Xingzhi be suspecting something?
But to his surprise, Gu Xingzhi seemed to notice his recovery and said, “Even if someone close to you is very familiar, please remember, Your Majesty, not to place complete trust in anyone.”
Was he implying that Chang’an did this intentionally?
Did he suspect Chang’an?
While Luo Shen didn’t quite understand why Gu Xingzhi suddenly suspected Chang’an, he heaved a sigh of relief. “I… of course, I understand.”
“Your Majesty, do you dare to accompany me alone as we leave the palace?” Gu Xingzhi asked.
Luo Shen’s legs went weak. “Gu… Gu Xingzhi?”
“Your Majesty, if you don’t decide quickly, it will be dark soon.”
Luo Shen: “…”
“Your Majesty, I have the late Emperor’s decree.”
Luo Shen’s heart sank.
A moment later, in a private residence outside the palace.
Luo Shen was pushed into a room. He held the clothing in his hand, and his hand trembled. He immediately pounded on the door.
“Gu Xingzhi! Gu Xingzhi!”
“Tell me, tell me! Why did you give me women’s clothing?”
