Let Me Go, I’m Not Pregnant - Chapter 21
In his hand, he held a flowing black gown, reminiscent of Gu Xingzhi’s preferences.
Luo Shen stared at the clothing.
Should he wear it or not?
He looked up, and the door was tightly closed, with the marks of his earlier scratching still visible on the crack.
Gu Xingzhi’s deep voice came from outside, pretending to be unaware, “Your Majesty, it’s getting late. If you don’t come out soon, the lantern festival will be over.”
Luo Shen shook his head.
He didn’t want to wear it.
But he couldn’t leave the palace in his imperial robe.
Gu Xingzhi was meticulous, continuing to feign ignorance outside the door. “Your Majesty, are you having trouble wearing it? Do you need my help?”
Luo Shen, holding the clothing, quickly retreated two steps. “No, no need.”
“Very well,” Gu Xingzhi’s lips curved slightly. “Your Majesty, if I don’t see you shortly, I will leave on my own.”
Luo Shen: “…”
He took a deep breath and crumpled the clothing in his hands unwillingly. “Gu Xingzhi, can’t you find something else for me to wear?”
“Your Majesty, would you like this set of water-pink silk gown or this tender green dress?” Gu Xingzhi smiled.
Luo Shen: “…Is there nothing for a man to wear?”
Gu Xingzhi chuckled. “Your Majesty, what do you think?”
Luo Shen: “…”
The two of them conversed through the closed door, and outside, a few fireworks went off. Gu Xingzhi raised his eyes. “Your Majesty, the fireworks are beautiful.”
Luo Shen cleared his throat, stood up to approach the door, but he couldn’t see anything from there.
Gu Xingzhi laughed again. “It’s already started.”
Luo Shen: “…”
He turned his head angrily, thinking he could just not look at it! But outside, the fireworks were booming, and he could faintly hear the cheers. Itched by curiosity, he couldn’t resist picking up the black gown.
After a moment, two knocks sounded from inside the room.
Gu Xingzhi turned around and heard a weak voice from inside, “I… I’ve changed.”
Gu Xingzhi stepped forward and pushed the door open with a creak. He saw Luo Shen standing awkwardly behind the door in a flowing black dress, staring at the ground. He said hesitantly, “It won’t look too out of place, will it?”
Outside, the fireworks burst into bloom once more, casting variegated colors into the room. Gu Xingzhi’s gaze was instantly drawn to the beautiful display, and he curiously went to the doorway to have a look.
Gu Xingzhi blinked for a moment and saw that slender figure moving nimbly like a bird.
He said, “If we’re talking about physique, it’s indeed not comparable to the women in the capital.”
They had soft curves and well-defined figures, while Luo Shen…
After all, he was a man, so he didn’t have much in the way of curves. Fortunately, most of the oddities were concealed by the loose silk dress, but his delicate features, including his slender brows and almond-shaped eyes, his narrow lips, attracted most of the attention, blurring the boundary between masculinity and femininity.
Luo Shen turned his head, his eyes filled with fireworks, and looked over with a playful smile. It seemed like he had already forgotten about his earlier complaint. “What about my face?”
“Your face…” Gu Xingzhi hesitated for a moment, then whispered, “Exquisite.”
His voice was drowned out by the fireworks that burst open once again, and it seemed like Luo Shen didn’t hear clearly. He tilted his head in puzzlement, but the next moment, a shadow fell over them.
Luo Shen’s heart suddenly leaped, and he instinctively stood upright, back against the wall.
The other person’s gaze swept over his eyes, and then, he raised his hand and took something from Luo Shen’s head.
The black locks cascaded down like a waterfall, and Luo Shen blinked his eyes in confusion, his voice slightly hoarse, “What… are you doing?”
“Helping Your Majesty redo your hair,” Gu Xingzhi raised the black locks, his fingers, calloused from years of practice, brushed against the scalp, and his warm breath blew across Luo Shen’s forehead.
Outside, the fireworks continued to explode, and Luo Shen suddenly felt that the beating of his heart had become even louder.
It was so loud that he couldn’t hear his surroundings or what Gu Xingzhi was saying.
When Gu Xingzhi took a step back and handed over a piece of veil, Luo Shen finally regained his senses. He raised his hand to the back of his head.
It turned out that Gu Xingzhi had tied his hair into a ponytail.
He lowered his gaze and asked, “What’s this for?”
“The Emperor’s face should be concealed.”
“Oh,” Luo Shen took the veil, feeling a bit disappointed for some reason.
He fastened the veil and asked, “Can I go out like this?”
Gu Xingzhi’s mood had improved considerably, and he walked up to Luo Shen. “It’s Almost done.”
Luo Shen’s eyes brightened, and he looked outside, then turned back, his gaze subtly fixed on Gu Xingzhi.
Gu Xingzhi chuckled when he noticed. “Let’s go.”
The streets were bustling with people, many of them couples. The streets were lined with snack stalls, and the calls of vendors mixed with the bursts of fireworks, creating a lively atmosphere.
Luo Shen didn’t know where to look. His eyes were busy, and he almost followed someone else a few times, but Gu Xingzhi quickly pulled him back, warning with a furrowed brow, “Stay with me.”
His eyes flicked to the side, and Luo Shen didn’t say a word, but he scolded Gu Xingzhi with his gaze.
His stomach also grumbled twice.
After a while, Gu Xingzhi gave in and obediently handed him some money.
Luo Shen received the money and wanted to try a little bit of everything. He was curious about various novelties, causing him to walk around aimlessly. A moment later, he noticed a dart stall, approached it, and saw a large board with several stone plaques on it. The shopkeeper smiled and said, “If you can throw the dart into one of these plaques, you’ll get a free item as written on it.”
Luo Shen’s hands itched, and he exchanged some money for a dart, then threw it.
The dart hit the stone plaque but bounced off like a fly hitting a wall, falling to the ground with a clatter.
The shopkeeper chuckled, “Must be bad luck.”
Luo Shen nodded and threw another one.
The shopkeeper handed him a new dart. “Your strength is not enough.”
Luo Shen exerted more force this time. The dart clearly hit the stone plaque, but it was as if someone had pushed it from behind, and it suddenly fell to the ground.
The shopkeeper picked up the dart and gave him another. “You’ve got the strength, but it needs to be precise. Try again, and you’ll surely succeed!”
Luo Shen lowered his gaze, seeing that he only had three darts left.
He turned his head, and Gu Xingzhi happened to look over. “Want to try?”
Luo Shen nodded.
It was a box of women’s rouge.
The shopkeeper approached with a grin, “Although the lady has not shown her face, she must surely be incredibly beautiful. This rouge is of the highest quality. Even if you were to buy all the darts and throw them at it, it would be worth it.”
He then turned to Gu Xingzhi, “Tonight’s fireworks festival is the perfect occasion to win a lady’s heart with this rouge, isn’t it?”
Gu Xingzhi glanced at the shopkeeper in response.
The shopkeeper stepped back, looking smug. He had tampered with the stone plaque, and there was no way an ordinary person could hit it. He just had to wait to collect…
But before he could finish his thoughts, the dart was directly lodged into the stone plaque, deeply stuck in the crevice. The person behind the stone plaque barely escaped being hit by the dart, and they cowered in fear.
“I’ll take this rouge,” Luo Shen said.
The shopkeeper stared at the dart in disbelief. Three fireworks, five fireworks, eight fireworks burst in the sky, but no matter how long they waited, the dart showed no sign of falling.
He looked at the two of them again.
The lady lifted her veil and was biting into a candied hawthorn with the help of the man’s hand. The plump fruit filled her cheeks.
The man, dressed in ordinary clothes, exuded an extraordinary aura, carrying the air of a warrior on a battlefield.
Perhaps they had waited too long. Gu Xingzhi frowned and looked over, scaring the shopkeeper so much that his legs trembled. He hurriedly took down the rouge and handed it to them.
Luo Shen took the rouge box and then noticed someone nearby selling rice cakes. He ran over and bought two portions.
Gu Xingzhi shook his head in resignation and was about to take out some silver to give to the shopkeeper as a tip when he remembered that the money pouch was with Luo Shen.
He turned around, but at that moment, several servants blocked Luo Shen.
“Our young master Qin has fallen in love with the lady at first sight. May we invite the lady for a chat?” one of the servants said.
Luo Shen: “?”
