Let Me Go, I’m Not Pregnant - Chapter 60
“Take a left and go straight,” the gatekeeper said impatiently, waving his hand. “Don’t linger here!”
Qin Cheng nodded, his gaze sweeping over the tightly closed door before he turned and left.
He had been assigned to watch this courtyard for several days. A couple of days ago, he heard that the courtyard was hiring, so he managed to sneak in.
Sure enough, not long after entering, a room in the mansion was restricted, no one allowed near. Connecting this with the information he received last night, he began to speculate.
The only person who could make En Shu this angry, besides Luo Shen, was probably no one else.
He walked to the secluded courtyard, seeing no one around, took out a note, called a pigeon, rolled up the note, placed it in the pigeon tube, and quietly released it.
Before long, En Shu returned with a doctor. He strode into the room, saw that the person was still unconscious, and gave the doctor a glance. The doctor quickly moved forward to examine him.
The doctor’s movements were gentle, but they still woke Luo Shen.
He opened his eyes, which were still covered, and heard the voices of two people. Confused for a moment, he said, “En Shu…”
Upon hearing his voice, the doctor frowned. “How did your throat get so hoarse?”
Luo Shen understood immediately that this person was here to treat him, so he accused, “He stuffed sunflower seeds down my throat!”
En Shu: “…”
The doctor glared at En Shu. “This is a patient. If you want to save him, why are you tormenting him?”
Luo Shen nodded in agreement. “Exactly!”
En Shu: “…”
His face visibly showed his growing irritation. “Just treat him and stop talking so much nonsense!”
The doctor, feeling cowed, whispered to Luo Shen, “Young Master, he at least wants to save you. Just bear with it and don’t anger him.”
Luo Shen: “…”
Seeing the doctor suffer a setback, En Shu’s displeasure subsided a little. “Don’t worry, I have no intention of letting you die. If you behave, I won’t do anything to you, and you’ll be able to rest easy and give birth.”
Luo Shen didn’t bother responding and instead asked the doctor, “Doctor, when will my throat recover?”
The doctor raised his hand, asking Luo Shen to open his mouth. After examining carefully, his brows furrowed slightly as he murmured, “Forgive me,” then reached in to probe each area.
Luo Shen initially felt nauseous, but when the doctor’s finger brushed against the injured spot, his voice turned into a whimper. The doctor quickly withdrew his hand and sighed:
“The injury isn’t severe; it should heal with some days of care. However, your diet must be managed carefully. No food that’s too hot or too cold, no heavy oils, spice, or salt. But if the food is too bland, it won’t provide enough nutrition, which isn’t good for the baby. Medicine would hurt both your throat and the fetus, so it’s best to nourish yourself with a carefully balanced diet. Also, your body is weak and tends towards cold; this place is too chilly, which isn’t good for your health. There will be risks during childbirth, and there could be complications afterward. So, it’s best to change rooms. Otherwise, you’ll need to prepare heating and plenty of blankets.”
En Shu’s face darkened. “This much trouble?”
The doctor quickly stood up. “This young master’s body is weak. He must have suffered during the early stages of pregnancy, and with added stress, his body is tense, which isn’t good for the fetus. If you want to ensure the baby’s safety, it’s best to follow my advice.”
En Shu’s face twitched. “But…”
“If you find it troublesome, just have the servants take care of it. As his belly grows, his body will become increasingly stiff and unable to move. He’ll need to be turned and massaged regularly at night…”
En Shu, overwhelmed, quickly waved his hand. “Alright, alright, I get it!”
The doctor had more to say, but seeing En Shu’s impatient expression, he had to stop. “Since the young master is aware, I won’t stay any longer. I have other patients to see, so I’ll take my leave.”
En Shu, irritated, waved him away. “Get out of here quickly.”
A servant opened the door, escorted the doctor out, and then closed the door again.
The room fell silent once more. Luo Shen tentatively called out, “En Shu?”
“What now?” En Shu replied impatiently.
Luo Shen rasped, “I’m bored. I just want to talk to you.”
En Shu glanced at him. “Isn’t your throat hurting? You can still talk?”
“Then you talk, and I’ll listen,” Luo Shen said, then added, “But it’s cold here. I’m uncomfortable. Can you help me sit up? I want to move a bit.”
En Shu: “…”
He angrily retorted, “You really think you’re here to enjoy yourself!”
Luo Shen pitifully replied, “I’ve caught a chill, and my stomach hurts…”
En Shu: “…”
He couldn’t catch his breath, furiously opening the door to shout at a servant, “Bring two blankets!”
Then he slammed the door shut, stormed over, and saw Luo Shen’s outstretched hands. His face darkened. “Your Majesty, do you have any sense of decorum or shame?”
Luo Shen, confused, asked, “I’m on the verge of death. What is that?”
He was trying to make himself comfortable; was he supposed to keep arguing and get tortured instead?
En Shu, furious, lifted Luo Shen into his arms and angrily walked him over to the bed.
Luo Shen finally reached the bed and immediately lay down, sighing contentedly.
This made En Shu even more furious.
He really couldn’t understand how this emperor was so spineless. Where was his dignity?
An emperor should stand firm, even in the face of death, shouldn’t he?
How could he be so shamelessly asking for comfort?
Did he think En Shu was some servant who came and went at his beck and call?
The former eunuch En Shu was infuriated. He scolded, “Get up!”
Luo Shen reached out to remove the blindfold. He could finally touch his eyes, but no matter how hard he tried, the knots were too tight; he couldn’t undo it.
He complained, “I can’t see!”
“You’re not supposed to see!” En Shu shouted, exasperated. “Sit up, you’re not allowed to sleep!”
Luo Shen heard the outburst and obediently sat up. “What’s wrong? Why are you so angry?”
En Shu: “…”
He replied, “You’re asking? Isn’t it your fault?”
Luo Shen tried to console him, “This is just how I am. Don’t get too angry, you’ll make yourself sick, and then who would take care of you? When things happen, just take it easy. Since you don’t want me to die and you want me to have this baby, then our interests are aligned. I don’t have to worry about being discovered. I should be thanking you.”
En Shu: “…”
He almost couldn’t catch his breath; this was nothing like what he had imagined!
This Luo Shen, how could he do this!
En Shu was so angry he didn’t know what to do. Unable to resort to violence, he could only pace back and forth by the bed.
Luo Shen listened to the sounds, feeling drowsy. He rubbed his throat, thinking to himself that the medicine the doctor gave earlier worked quite well; his throat no longer hurt, though swallowing was still a bit uncomfortable.
He lay down, and after a while, En Shu angrily shouted at him, “You’re not allowed to sleep!”
Luo Shen lazily replied, “But I’m sleepy.”
“It’s broad daylight, what are you tired for?”
“I can’t see anyway,” Luo Shen’s voice gradually lowered. “How about you talk about yourself… as a bedtime… bedtime story…”
But as he spoke, he had already fallen asleep.
And he still wanted to hear En Shu’s bedtime story!
En Shu became even angrier. He rushed forward, intending to shake him awake, but at that moment, the door opened. A servant entered, carrying two blankets, and respectfully said, “Young master, here are the blankets you requested.”
En Shu, fuming, replied, “Cover him with one!”
Then he turned around to leave.
Qin Cheng walked forward and gently covered Luo Shen with a blanket. Just then, En Shu returned, glancing at the sleeping Luo Shen, and then at Qin Cheng.
En Shu really didn’t want to deal with Luo Shen anymore, so he tossed the responsibility to Qin Cheng, saying, “You, from now on, you’re in charge of taking care of him until he gives birth to the child. If anything goes wrong during this time, you’ll be held accountable!”
Qin Cheng quickly lowered his head and agreed.
En Shu glared at the person sleeping soundly in the bed, then turned and stormed out.
The door slammed shut again. Only then did Qin Cheng sigh in relief. He walked forward and softly called, “Your Majesty.”
Luo Shen’s hoarse voice asked, “You’re here… Xingzhi, does he know?”
“Lord Gu has already been informed. You’ve been missing for ten days.”
“Ten days?” Luo Shen was somewhat dazed. He thought he had just taken a nap, so…
“Where am I now?”
“In a hidden residence in the capital,” Qin Cheng replied. “After the incident with the shadow guards, Lord Gu had me keep an eye on Changqing, which is how I found you so quickly.”
Luo Shen thought to himself, so that’s how it is, and then he asked, “What about Changqing?”
“He’s still in the palace.” Luo Shen had been away for so long without any imperial decree, so Gu Xingzhi couldn’t hold him any longer. In two days, Changqing would return.
Qin Cheng silently thought that when the time came, Changqing would surely torment Luo Shen, so he suggested, “I’ll rescue you as soon as possible.”
Luo Shen pursed his lips and said, “No need for now.”
If he were rescued, Changqing would surely try to harm the Gu family again and take him back. Rather than go through that, it was better to stay here and face Changqing directly.
If it were just him alone, he wouldn’t mind the trouble. But since he was still carrying a child, he preferred to move as little as possible.
Besides, he wouldn’t really wait until the child was born.
Luo Shen softly instructed, “He wants all the court ministers to see me like this.”
Qin Cheng’s eyes tightened. “Should I kill him then?”
“What’s Chancellor Liu doing now? Changqing must have him helping, right?”
“Your Majesty is… truly perceptive.” Qin Cheng sighed. “I don’t know what Prince Ping said to Chancellor Liu, but recently, Chancellor Liu has been helping him, pressuring Lord Gu to release you.”
Gu Xingzhi had been holding out under the pressure, but it couldn’t go on much longer.
Luo Shen sighed and said, “Xiao Cheng…”
“I’m here.”
“Have Changxin give the human skin mask to Xingzhi.”
Qin Cheng abruptly looked up and asked in shock, “But…”
“If you don’t go, Xingzhi might just blow up the palace.”
That man was already on the verge of a breakdown before Luo Shen left. Upon hearing the news of his kidnapping, he was probably barely holding it together.
If the news of Luo Shen staying didn’t reach his ears, there was no guarantee that Gu Xingzhi wouldn’t use the Shadow Guard Alliance.
The power of the former chancellor’s faction was still unclear; how many people were involved hadn’t been fully accounted for. Using the Shadow Guard Alliance prematurely would be disastrous.
It would be better to…
Counter motion with stillness.
Qin Cheng also realized this, so he nodded.
He tucked the blanket around Luo Shen and said, “Your Majesty, rest for now. I’ll go prepare something for you to eat.”
Luo Shen nodded. Even though he had been unconscious for ten days, he still felt like he hadn’t had enough sleep. It wasn’t long before he drifted off again.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when he awoke, groggy, and seemed to smell a familiar fragrance.
He was confused for a moment, then hoarsely asked, “Xingzhi?”
The response was a trembling kiss.
