Let Me Go, I’m Not Pregnant - Chapter 65
Early the next morning, Changqing got up to ask Luo Shen for the letter.
Unfortunately, Luo Shen was not yet awake. Hearing the noise outside, he frowned unhappily and turned to bury himself in Gu Xingzhi’s embrace.
“Go… send them all away,” Luo Shen mumbled, clutching Gu Xingzhi’s clothes tightly, refusing to let anyone get up.
Gu Xingzhi found this somewhat amusing. He leaned over to kiss Luo Shen’s forehead, brushing the stray hairs aside. Hearing En Shu’s impatient knocking from outside, he gently lifted Luo Shen’s chin. “I’m going back to the palace now. Take good care of yourself, okay?”
Luo Shen reluctantly opened his eyes and then quickly shut them again. “No…”
He didn’t want to see Changqing.
Gu Xingzhi said, “Then I’ll take you out now. Shall we go back to the palace?”
Upon hearing this, Luo Shen hesitated for a moment, then decisively pushed Gu Xingzhi away, turning his back and waving his hand. “Have a safe journey, be careful on the road, and when you come back, ahh…”
Then he yawned and went back to sleep.
Gu Xingzhi smiled helplessly, reaching under the covers to touch Luo Shen’s chin and then moving downwards. Luo Shen, who had initially been drowsy, was suddenly startled awake.
The noise outside continued, and it sounded like Changqing might break in at any moment, but right now… right now…
Luo Shen’s body tensed up in fear. He reached out to push Gu Xingzhi, who then suddenly grabbed something and lightly scraped Luo Shen’s pinky. “Your Majesty, hold onto this well. Don’t lose it.”
In his hand was the short flute that had been lost during the commotion last night.
Luo Shen pouted and obediently held onto the short flute.
“I’ll get you a new one in a couple of days,” Gu Xingzhi said. He had hoped Luo Shen would use it against the bad guys, but since Luo Shen had repeatedly hurt himself, he had to think of another way.
“Alright,” Luo Shen responded.
“Then I’ll be going now,” Gu Xingzhi said, glancing at the door before walking over to it.
As soon as he reached the door, Changqing kicked it open.
The loud noise dispelled all of Luo Shen’s sleepiness.
Luo Shen yawned and got up, seeing Changqing walking quickly towards him while Gu Xingzhi cast him a deep glance before leaving the room.
Luo Shen withdrew his gaze and sleepily asked, “What’s wrong, Changqing? It’s so early in the morning.”
“Why are you asking me what’s wrong?” Changqing turned to look at the table, where there was an envelope. His anger immediately dissipated, and he hurried over to pick it up, his tone softening. “Since you’ve written it already, why lock the door and make me disturb you so early…”
Before he could finish his sentence, he had already opened the envelope but found it empty. His face immediately fell, and his tone grew fiery. “Your Majesty, what’s going on? Where is my letter?”
He turned around, his anger boiling over.
Luo Shen stared at the envelope for a while, as if just realizing something, and scratched his head, looking around. “I wrote it last night. Did it fall somewhere? Can you find it?”
Changqing: “…”
He was stunned. “You want me to find it?”
“Ah, aren’t you going to look for it?” Luo Shen frowned as if he had heard something extremely absurd. “But I really don’t have the strength to look for it. I wrote all night.”
Though he was sitting, his posture was so weary that it looked like he had truly worked hard all night, making it hard for anyone to scold him further.
Changqing choked up, feeling at a loss. He couldn’t understand how Luo Shen, despite his current situation, could still be so pampered.
But thinking about it, it was normal for someone like Luo Shen, who had never experienced hardship, to act this way.
The more delicate he was, the more he could cooperate with Changqing’s actions. It was just a matter of indulging him; once the goal was achieved, everything would be fine.
With this in mind, Changqing suppressed his anger and instructed En Shu to pull down all the curtains and search the room thoroughly.
Even the bed linens were taken and searched through.
However, after a while, when En Shu pulled out the already soaked and disintegrated paper from the water basin, Changqing’s face could no longer hide his anger. He shouted, “Luo Shen! What do you mean by this!”
“Ah?” Luo Shen looked over at the sight of the soggy paper in En Shu’s hand, opening his mouth in surprise. “Changqing, although I’m locked up by you, isn’t this a bit too much? I wrote an entire page of letter with much effort, and you just threw it in the water?”
Changqing: “…”
“Your Majesty, that was already in the water before the prince came in,” En Shu reminded.
“That’s impossible for me to lose it!” Luo Shen was furious, glaring at both of them. “I worked so hard on that letter. Why make things difficult for me like this? If you don’t want me to have it easy, just say so!”
He then turned his face away, mumbling, “Clearly, you’re the one in a hurry for the decree, yet you still make things hard for me!”
Changqing: “…”
Even though he hadn’t done anything, he somehow felt a tinge of guilt for making things difficult for Luo Shen.
“Cough.” Changqing cleared his throat, trying to regain control of the situation. “Your Majesty, you’re overreacting. How could I possibly do something to make things difficult for you? This might be an accident. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Luo Shen looked dejected and dispirited. “I worked so hard all night.”
He looked down at his fingers, which were clean, but this did not stop him from feeling emotionally wounded, as if he had indeed spent the whole night working and his fingers were covered in bruises.
Changqing: “…”
Although Changqing felt that Luo Shen was being overly delicate, the immediate priority was to quickly get another copy of the letter to obtain the decree.
He forced himself to stay calm. “Your Majesty, about the letter…”
Luo Shen raised his head in distress, seeing the crumpled paper, and his nose twitched. He turned away.
Changqing: “…”
This is… asking to be comforted?
Changqing looked at En Shu, who solemnly nodded.
He: “…”
Seeing Luo Shen genuinely upset and not planning to engage with them, Changqing had no choice but to steel himself and approach. “Your Majesty, this was really not my doing.”
“Not you, so who could it be? Is it me?” Luo Shen felt wronged. “Although I’m captured by you, you shouldn’t bully me like this. I can’t let you bully me!”
Changqing swallowed hard. “Your Majesty, I will deal with the servant later. It must be his fault, so…”
“Heh, you’re always like this, pushing your own mistakes onto others. He was with me all night, so how could he have had the chance to do anything? Besides, isn’t he your person?”
Changqing’s lips twitched. He recalled a possibility.
After all, there were still people from the former Prime Minister’s faction in the residence, who stood with Luo Ming and hated Luo Shen to the core. They naturally didn’t intend to spare Luo Shen’s life.
But if Changqing tried to get involved in the fight for the throne, he would also become their target. Although both sides were at a stalemate, they needed his strength to save Luo Ming.
However, those people were also aware that if Changqing obtained the decree, Luo Ming’s chances of winning would be slim.
Changqing’s face gradually darkened. “Your Majesty, this is the scheme of Prince Qin’s subordinates! They are the former Prime Minister’s old party, and they don’t want me to ascend, so…”
Luo Shen’s eyes widened. “Are you saying that there are people from his faction in your residence? Why did you keep them here?!”
Changqing saw that Luo Shen was angry and quickly said, “For now, it’s just mutual use. Your Majesty, don’t worry. I won’t let them touch a hair on you!”
Luo Shen was skeptical, his face filled with betrayed anger.
Changqing had to restrain him and said sternly, “Luo Shen! Don’t push me too far!”
Luo Shen, pinned by Changqing’s grip, could not move and stared back with a mixture of fear and anger.
Changqing threatened, “Luo Shen, listen carefully. There are indeed former Prime Minister’s subordinates in this residence. They have been eyeing you for a long time, but they haven’t acted against you because I can help them rescue Luo Ming. But if you don’t listen to me, I’ll let them come in right away!”
He lowered his voice, his anger seeming as if it could burn Luo Shen: “At that time, they might even cut open your belly, making you suffer while watching your child be crushed.”
Luo Shen shuddered, fear evident in his eyes.
Seeing this, Changqing was satisfied. “Your Majesty, do you want to endure a bit longer for a good life, or continue to go against me?”
He loosened his grip, and Luo Shen fell to the ground with a thud, trembling. After a moment, he restrained his trembling voice and said, “I… I’ll try harder to write it in the next two days.”
“Two days?” Changqing frowned in displeasure.
Luo Shen immediately pouted, “I haven’t held a pen for a long time. I wrote all night last night, and my hand hurts. It might be difficult to write, and if the handwriting is different from usual, it might make Xingzhi suspicious.”
Changqing looked at Luo Shen disdainfully. Just writing a letter and your hand hurts?
But whether true or not, it was just another two days. Changqing suppressed his impatience and huffed, “Fine, I’ll give you two more days.”
As Changqing was about to leave, Luo Shen suddenly called out to him.
Changqing frowned in displeasure. “What now?”
“I haven’t seen daylight here, and my eyes are almost going blind. It’s not good for the baby,” Luo Shen said pitifully. “Can you let me walk outside?”
Changqing: “… Are you not afraid…”
“Didn’t you say you’d protect me?” Luo Shen asked. Changqing was about to refuse, but Luo Shen’s pitiful eyes, combined with the excuses of “being in poor health and unable to write” and “feeling mentally unwell and forgetting where the decree is,” made him relent.
“Also, can I have a bed?” Luo Shen patted the floor. “The ground is so hard and cold at night.”
Changqing: “…”
“The doctor said that during pregnancy, I’m prone to forgetfulness and need to be well-rested to feel better.”
Changqing: “… Fine.”
“Also, add some charcoal at night. I’m too cold, and that little servant alone isn’t enough.”
Changqing: “… Fine, is that all?”
“My handcuffs and shackles are too heavy. I’d like…”
Changqing’s eye twitched, seeing that Luo Shen was pushing him to his limits. Luo Shen silently swallowed that last request. “Alright, alright, we’ll keep the handcuffs and shackles on. Don’t be angry.”
Changqing: “…”
“By the way, when can the bed be moved in? I’m tired.”
Changqing: “…”
Exhausted and irritated, he rolled his eyes in defeat and left immediately.
Only En Shu, who had not yet left, was caught by Luo Shen’s gaze.
“En Shu,” Luo Shen said with a smile, “Since he’s your master, you’ll do what he promised, right?”
En Shu shivered and quickly ran out.
Just before the door, Luo Shen’s lowered voice reached him. “You’ll help me remember the list of old subordinates, right?”
En Shu hesitated for a moment, then pressed his lips together and said through gritted teeth, “… Fine.”
