Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 13
From the moment he entered the office, Xie Yu felt like he was being treated as if he were invisible. It was clear that this doctor named Manzhu had a negative impression of him, or rather, a negative impression of alphas.
“So, what about the treatment?” Xie Yu wasn’t so petty as to argue about this, so he continued his inquiries.
Manzhu’s tone improved slightly compared to before, but she remained distant. “The simplest method is to find an alpha with a highly compatible set of pheromones for complete marking. After complete marking, an alpha’s pheromones can quickly metabolize the residual pheromones from previous alphas within the omega’s body.”
Clearly, this method was the simplest but also the most challenging.
Alphas with extremely compatible pheromones were not readily available. Moreover, complete marking was a lifelong commitment, and responsible alphas would not marry an omega they had no feelings for just to save them. That would be a form of moral coercion.
The first method was almost impossible, so Xie Yu skipped it and asked, “What are the other methods?”
Manzhu continued, “The second method is to surgically remove the gland to eliminate the pheromones.”
Xie Yu’s forehead seemed to be in a perpetual state of squeezing insects. “Surgery?”
The gland was one of the most fragile organs in the human body. Cutting open the gland would cause pain comparable to having one’s entire lower half severed. Omegas were physically weaker than alphas and betas due to their physiological conditions, and their bodies were already weakened from their time at Golden Wind and Jade Dew. They wouldn’t be able to endure the pain of gland surgery.
Pei An took a deep breath, gripping the chair’s armrests tightly, trying to suppress his overwhelming anger. Otherwise, he feared he might lose control and drag the perpetrators out to deal with them personally.
“Damaging the gland also impairs its ability to self-repair. Standard medications won’t suffice for treatment; we’d need to use VC + Healing Gel, which costs around 16,000 Leyte Coins per tube, and we don’t have access to it.”
VC + Healing Gel was a military-exclusive medication. For such strictly regulated items, no matter how much money Pei An had, it wouldn’t make a difference.
Pei An pinched the bridge of his nose. “Are there any other treatment options?”
“Yes,” Manzhu said in a deep voice, “direct removal of the gland.”
The gland was a vital organ in the human body, and cutting out an organ would undoubtedly cause harm to the body.
In summary, of the three treatment methods, the one with the least damage was the most difficult to achieve, and the one with the most damage made it impossible to take action. Furthermore, whether or not to remove the gland was a decision that ultimately rested with the victims. If they refused, Pei An and the others couldn’t simply sedate them and take them to the operating room like neutering a male cat.
Pei An’s expression was grim, and Xie Yu felt utterly helpless. If only he could contact his own military unit. If he had access to VC + Healing Gel through his military legion, their problems would be solved.
“Let’s focus on treating the other injuries for now. We’ll think of a solution for the gland later.”
Manzhu adjusted her glasses frames and said, “If possible, we could try to have the victims engage in complete marking with an alpha. I’ve heard there are quite a few single omegas among them. Who knows, maybe they’ll find someone they like?”
Pei An supported his head with both hands, taking a moment before responding, “You make a valid point. It’s worth a try.”
Faced with the options of cutting the wound open or removing the gland, perhaps finding a compatible alpha was the more realistic possibility.
“By the way, would you mind going to the wards to check on them? After being rescued, they all want to thank you in person,” Pei An said. He didn’t require gratitude, but since he was the one who saved them, he felt responsible.
“I’ll go and see them.” Pei An finished the water in his cup, placed it down, and stood up.
Xie Yu was about to follow him.
“Sir, you’re an alpha. Maybe it’s better if you don’t come,” Manzhu smiled for the first time, albeit with a hint of sarcasm.
Xie Yu turned back to face Manzhu and asked, “May I ask what issues you have with me or alphas in general?”
He wasn’t naive. It was clear that Manzhu didn’t like him following Pei An. There had to be a reason for it. If she had a problem with alphas, did that mean she intended to interfere with Pei An’s interactions with alphas?
Pei An had already walked away, and Manzhu’s expression turned sour. “I heard you were saved by Pei An. Of course, that’s not important. What matters is that you should keep your distance from him.”
Manzhu was an omega herself, but unlike other omegas, she had a unique ability to sense pheromones with remarkable accuracy. Her mentor once joked that she was a walking pheromone compatibility tester. It was clear that Manzhu had an exceptional ability to perceive pheromones.
Even if Pei An and Xie Yu had used pheromone blockers, their pheromones hadn’t leaked outward. Yet, as soon as they entered the office, Manzhu immediately sensed the subtle connection between the two.
While high pheromone compatibility had its advantages, there were also downsides, particularly for omegas. If alphas deliberately nurtured an omega’s dependence on their pheromones, the omega could become addicted, much like being controlled by a drug.
Manzhu had seen omegas controlled by alphas with high pheromone compatibility, and she had even performed gland removal surgery for such cases. It was a fate worse than death.
As a doctor, Manzhu had witnessed many aspects of human nature. Thus, when she sensed the relatively high pheromone compatibility between Xie Yu and Pei An, she became cautious of Xie Yu.
Xie Yu didn’t think too much about it, considering Manzhu to be overly concerned. He treated everyone as if they were trying to claim his precious cabbage.
“I’m very grateful to Pei An for saving my life, and I assure you, I have no ulterior motives towards him,” Xie Yu declared, raising his hand as if taking an oath.
Manzhu’s expression remained unchanged. She didn’t put much trust in verbal assurances. Nevertheless, her intention was simply to remind Xie Yu. If Xie Yu dared to have any improper intentions toward Pei An, Pei An could handle the situation himself.
Pei An could guess the reason behind Manzhu’s deliberate request for Xie Yu to stay behind. He didn’t find it problematic and allowed her to have her way. Moreover, Xie Yu, as an alpha, wasn’t suitable for visiting the victims, especially the omega victims who had developed a deep fear of alphas.
Shu Mingya was currently delivering breakfast to the victims. Due to the large number of people, breakfast was being served a bit later than usual. Some people were even reluctant to eat.
“Listen to Auntie, please have some breakfast, okay?” Shu Mingya half-crouched by the hospital bed. “Skipping breakfast isn’t good for your health.”
The young omega, who appeared very thin, had suffered greatly at the hands of Jin Feng Yu Lu and hadn’t received proper meals. He had been surviving on nutritional supplements to meet his body’s needs. At one point, he had contemplated starving himself to death, but he was closely monitored, and if he refused the supplements, he’d be beaten with a whip lined with spikes. They wouldn’t even provide him with ointment for his injuries.
He had an intense fear of pain, which made him reluctant to refuse the supplements. Now that he was out of Jin Feng Yu Lu, all he desired was death.
“Auntie, I don’t want to eat. Please don’t bother with me; just let me die,” the omega had golden hair, blue eyes, and fair skin, making him quite charming, like a little angel.
However, this little angel had been broken.
Pei An entered the hospital room and took the bowl from Shu Mingya. “Aunt Shu, let me handle this.”
Shu Mingya nodded and went to check on patients in other rooms, leaving Fang Qin with Pei An.
Holding the bowl of porridge, Pei An crouched in front of the hospital bed. “What’s your name, and how old are you?”
Instead of immediately trying to persuade the omega to eat, Pei An inquired about Fang Qin’s personal information.
“I’m Fang Qin, and I’m nineteen years old,” Fang Qin replied timidly, clutching the edge of the blanket, looking quite uneasy.
Pei An smiled at Fang Qin and said, “Fang Qin, you have a beautiful name, and you’re a handsome young man. Well… I’m a few years older than you, so you can call me ‘Brother Pei.'”
Fang Qin softly whispered, “Brother Pei.”
“Since I’m your big brother, can I ask you a question?” Pei An asked gently.
Fang Qin pursed his lips and replied, “Brother Pei, are you asking why I don’t want to eat?”
Pei An pretended to be troubled and said, “Fang Qin, you guessed my thoughts so quickly. I don’t even know how to start. How about you share a little with me?”
Uncontrollable tears welled up in Fang Qin’s eyes as he wiped them away. His voice choked as he spoke, “I… I don’t want to live anymore. It’s so painful to be alive. I and many others were locked up, forced into servicing clients who were cruel and rough. We’re always covered in wounds, and my glands are bitten and hurt every day. It’s so painful; I can’t bear it.”
As Fang Qin spoke, tears streamed down his face uncontrollably, and he couldn’t stop them.
Pei An almost shattered the bowl he was holding.
The bite marks on Fang Qin’s glands were deep and shallow, creating a shocking sight. Manzhu had mentioned that when omegas were marked by different alphas during the same period, alpha pheromones would collide and tear inside an omega’s glands, causing severe harm. Over time, their glands would lose the ability to heal.
Pei An gently placed the bowl down and embraced Fang Qin, saying, “Fang Qin, do you trust Brother Pei? Brother Pei will find a way to treat your glands and will help you get back home. So, for the sake of your health and returning home soon, be strong, Fang Qin.”
Fang Qin held onto Pei An’s shirt tightly, crying uncontrollably, and soon, Pei An’s shirt was soaked.
Pei An remained calm and allowed Fang Qin to let out his emotions freely.
Cry it out; when people are suffering and feeling wronged, it’s entirely okay to cry.
