Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 14 Administrative Official
Pei An teased Fang Qin for a while, only until Fang Qin’s stomach rumbled. Then, with a mocking tone, Pei An urged Fang Qin to have his breakfast. Perhaps after venting a bit, Fang Qin felt better, or maybe it was the assurance Pei An gave him that instilled some courage. After drinking a bowl of porridge, Fang Qin voluntarily asked for a second one.
Fang Qin wasn’t an exception in this regard. Almost every omega forced to serve clients was in a similar state as Fang Qin. Their glands were scarred, and they couldn’t tolerate even a trace of alpha pheromones. The slightest touch caused excruciating pain, and painkillers or injections were ineffective. Therefore, all floors where omegas resided were strictly off-limits to alphas.
Pei An then went to check on the conditions in other wards one by one. Some victims were as despondent as Fang Qin, lacking the will to live. Some were a bit better, sustaining themselves with the belief that the wicked would eventually face retribution. Pei An deeply admired the work of the welfare institution.
Beta victims didn’t have the glandular damage, but they suffered physical injuries. Some clients had a tendency to abuse them, and Gold Wind and Jade Dew had a policy of neglect; if someone died, they were discarded, and if they ran short of people, they simply bought more. In the eyes of these clients, these victims were just commodities.
With a heavy heart, Pei An left the building. He had overlooked this, not expecting that such things were happening right under his nose in DS009, and he had only discovered it so late.
Jin Feng data core had been moved back for decryption, and Li Chengrui had just sent the decryption results to his smart brain. Jin Feng had been in business for over a decade and had caused the deaths of hundreds of people. Without exception, all of these victims had been trafficked from other star systems.
Even if the Moran Galaxy was remote, it still fell within the jurisdiction of the Light Empire. Spaceships had to pass interstellar security checks to enter the star system. The fact that they could smuggle people into the system left no room to believe that no one was involved.
Over the years, Pei An had pushed the Administrative Bureau to do the right thing, but now, when he thought about it again, the extent of the corruption within the Administrative Bureau likely far exceeded his imagination. Or perhaps, the Moran Galaxy’s Administrative Bureau was the biggest cancer within the Moran Galaxy.
The more he thought about it, the more infuriated Pei An became. He quickly left the medical office, not even bothering to say goodbye to Manzhu.
Xie Yu, seeing Pei An walk away without a word, hurriedly followed. “Pei An, where are you going?”
Pei An headed straight for the hovercar, opened the door, and got in. Xie Yu had to run fast to catch up with him, pulling open the car door and sitting in the passenger seat.
“Why are you following me?” Pei An was in a bad mood, and his words carried a hint of anger.
Xie Yu had already buckled his seatbelt. “Even if you’re going to pick a fight with someone, you still need a sidekick, right?”
A lot of the frustration in Pei An’s chest suddenly dissipated.
“You better not follow me; I really am going to pick a fight,” Pei An said, intending to intimidate Xie Yu. He had never thought that Xie Yu, an Major General, would stand on the same side as a freelance operative like him.
Being able to turn a blind eye and feign ignorance would be just fine.
But Xie Yu was getting even more enthusiastic. “If you’re going to fight, you should bring me along. When you went to Jin Feng, you brought dozens of people, looking so majestic and impressive. Today, not bringing anyone with you would make you seem rather lacking in presence, wouldn’t it?”
Pei An’s foot twitched, almost slamming the accelerator to the floor.
What was Xie Yu worried about, anyway?
“Fine, if you want to come, then come,” Pei An relented. After all, he hadn’t forcibly dragged Xie Yu into the car, and going to cause trouble at the Administrative Bureau with Xie Yu in tow might not be a bad idea. Externally, it could be framed as the Third Legion causing trouble for the Administrative Bureau.
Pei An thought about it and realized it was a good deal.
DS009 was a small planet to begin with, and Pei An didn’t drive for long before reaching the Administrative Bureau.
Pei An got out of the car, opened the rear door, lifted the seat, revealing a hidden compartment with a keypad. He entered the code, and the compartment opened, revealing an arsenal of weapons.
Xie Yu, looking at the fully stocked arsenal, realized he had underestimated Pei An. It seemed that Pei An’s combat capabilities were not to be taken lightly.
Pei An skillfully strapped two handguns to his waist and handed a gun and a dagger to Xie Yu. With the car door closed, they walked confidently toward the entrance of the Administrative Bureau.
The Administrative Bureau was arguably the finest building on this small planet, occupying a substantial area and exuding luxury. If not for the sign displaying “Administrative Bureau,” mistaking this place for a wealthy private residence or a high-end hotel would be entirely possible.
Pei An was a regular visitor to the Administrative Bureau. As he approached, the security guards at the entrance immediately sounded their internal alarms. One approached Pei An while the other went to report to the Administrative Official. Pei An’s infamous reputation had preceded him.
The guard who met Pei An was trembling, his face displaying reluctance and fear. He forced a smile that looked worse than crying and stammered, “M-Mr. Pei, what brings you here?”
Pei An bypassed the guard’s small talk and walked straight into the Administrative Bureau.
“Ah! Mr. Pei!” The guard couldn’t just let Pei An enter like that and hurriedly followed. “Uh, Mr. Pei, you can’t just barge in like this into the Administrative Bureau…”
Pei An glanced at Xie Yu, who instantly understood, drawing his gun and aiming it at the guard’s head with polite inquiry, “May we enter now?”
Xie Yu was polite but not overly so.
The guard was on the verge of tears. Why did Pei An, the infamous troublemaker, have to show up during his shift? And why did he bring someone with him today? This person he brought didn’t look any less intimidating. Fortunately, another guard didn’t abandon him and quickly returned, shouting to Pei An from a distance, “Mr. Pei, the Administrative Official invites you in.”
Pei An kept walking, navigating the halls of the Administrative Bureau with the ease of someone on their home turf, not needing anyone to lead the way.
The Administrative Bureau looked even more opulent on the inside, filled with intricate details, especially in the Administrative Official’s office, where the scent of wealth permeated the air.
Xie Yu followed Pei An into the Administrative Official’s office, his expression not looking very pleased. The offices in the military headquarters were all simple, with plain white paint, and they had never been adorned with wallpaper. Even the Marshal’s desk was just solid wood, albeit larger. This Administrative Official’s office, on the other hand, featured premium wood for the furniture and was even more extravagant than the Marshal’s.
Pei An, being at ease in such surroundings, didn’t wait for the Administrative Official to hypocritically initiate the conversation. He simply took a seat, crossed his legs, and clasped his hands in front of him, looking more like the owner of this office than the Administrative Official himself.
The Administrative Official’s expression froze momentarily, as Pei An had previously been polite to him but now skipped even that nicety.
However, he was accustomed to playing the hypocrite. He quickly conjured a smile and said, “Mr. Pei, what brings you here today?”
Pei An replied casually, “Oh, I sent you an urgent batch of garbage last night, given that it’s hazardous waste. I just wanted to check if the garbage has been properly disposed of.”
This Administrative Official’s name was Fan Wenhe, and Pei An had dealt with him before. He had a fair understanding of Fan Wenhe, a typical person driven by greed who would resort to any means for personal gain.
Fan Wenhe maintained his seemingly flawless smile. “Mr. Pei, you jest. There are procedures for everything, and I must follow the protocol, right?”
Pei An tilted his head. “So, is the evidence of Jin Feng’s crimes involving dozens of people not indisputable enough?”
Fan Wenhe couldn’t outright deny it, as that would make it obvious he was trying to deceive Pei An. Besides, he had no idea how much information Pei An had gathered about Jin Feng ‘s operation, especially since Pei An had led the raid himself.
“The trial of these criminals also requires a process, Mr. Pei. I have to follow the regulations,” Fan Wenhe responded.
“If there’s a process, there should be a deadline,” Pei An put his feet down, leaning forward with both hands on the edge of the desk. “Mr. Fan, may I kindly request a specific timeframe?”
Fan Wenhe, who had never faced a real hail of bullets, only ever engaged in verbal sparring within a crowd, felt overwhelmed by Pei An’s intensity, making it hard for him to catch his breath.
“Mr. Pei, please don’t rush. Please, have a seat.” Fan Wenhe raised three fingers, saying, “Three days. Give me three days, and I will ensure that Jin Feng’s case is handled appropriately.”
Pei An leisurely resumed his seat, saying, “I’ll be waiting for Mr. Fan’s good news, then.”
Fan Wenhe, with a somewhat embarrassed expression, allowed Pei An’s sarcastic tone to roll off him. “It’s just my duty, my duty.”
“Well then, Mr. Pei, since you’ve come all this way, it wouldn’t be right to let you leave empty-handed,” Fan Wenhe seemed prepared for this, retrieving two refrigerated containers from his safe. “Consider this a token of our respect, and I hope Mr. Pei will accept it.”
Pei An glanced at Xie Yu, giving him a knowing look. Xie Yu understood and stepped forward to open the two containers.
One container held ten syringes, and the other contained ten vials of a clear, gel-like substance.
Xie Yu’s pupils contracted for a moment in surprise.
Pei An didn’t recognize the ten vials of gel-like substance, but he knew the syringes well enough.
Those were suppressants, the kind that couldn’t be obtained anywhere else in the entire Moran Galaxy.
“Mr. Fan, you’re truly generous. If I were to decline, it would be disrespectful. Shall we take these containers with us?” Pei An quipped.
Fan Wenhe, you really are quite generous.
“Considering Mr. Pei might have other matters to attend to, I won’t keep you any longer,” Fan Wenhe stood up. “Allow me to escort you out.”
“No need to trouble you, Mr. Fan,” Pei An rose as well and adjusted his shirt. “We’ll take our leave.”
“Very well, very well,” Fan Wenhe put on a show of courtesy, accompanying them a few steps. But as soon as Pei An and Xie Yu were out of sight, his expression changed.
“Official, that Pei An is too audacious! What does he think of our Administrative Bureau?” A person emerged after Pei An’s departure, sidling up to Fan Wenhe and whispering in complaint.
Fan Wenhe pinched the newcomer’s buttocks and shot a chilling glance. “Hmph, Pei An won’t be arrogant for long.”
Just wait; as long as his application goes through, the military will arrive at DS009. No matter how formidable Pei An is, can he contend with the military?
By then, Pei An would be kneeling on the ground, begging him for mercy like a dog.
Fortunately, Pei An didn’t know what Fan Wenhe was imagining, or he might not have been able to resist the urge to twist Fan Wenhe’s head off and use it as a ball.
