Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 24 Relaxation
After spending an entire day resting due to his fever and consuming plain congee, Pei An was ready to go out once his body temperature returned to the normal range.
Xie Yu, wearing an apron that had a few bloodstains from accidentally splattering while preparing fish, questioned, “Where are you off to again? You’re in a hurry.”
Xie Yu hadn’t made rich and salty dishes for Pei An, as he was unwell, and Pei An didn’t like plain congee. So, Xie Yu had arranged for fresh fish to be delivered. Pei An enjoyed a hearty fish congee meal that contained numerous fish slices and no bones, making it a satisfying and safe choice for him. Now that he had finished, he was ready to leave.
“I need to make a trip to the welfare center. If you’d like, you can come with me,” Pei An said, jingling the keys to the hovercar. “Want to come?”
“Sure!” Xie Yu swiftly removed his apron and got dressed. He had already changed his clothes that morning, so he was prepared to go out.
Due to concerns about Pei An’s health, Xie Yu volunteered to drive, and Pei An agreed, avoiding jolts on the road.
While experiencing a smooth and uneventful ride, Pei An wondered if Xie Yu was worrying too much. After all, he had just had a fever, and he wasn’t on his deathbed.
But Pei An didn’t dare to voice his thoughts; he didn’t want Xie Yu to look at him with those worry-filled eyes. He’d feel guilty.
Xie Yu focused on driving, trying to ensure a smooth ride. This didn’t stop him from engaging in casual conversation.
“Have you been busy lately? Why do you suddenly have time to visit the welfare center?” Xie Yu inquired.
Pei An responded, “I’ve made all the necessary preparations. I need to do what’s required. If I just wait around every day for the enemy to come, other matters will be delayed. Plus, I’m here for a specific reason.”
Curious, Xie Yu asked, “What’s the specific reason? Can I find out?”
With a mischievous smile, Pei An replied, “You’ll find out once we get to the welfare center.”
The welfare center was a large room filled with tables. Shu Mingya was helping the children at the welfare center draw on clothes. Each child could draw their favorite patterns on the clothes, and after they were finished, they could take the clothes with them. They could either draw on their own clothes or create clothes for others. Shu Mingya had prepared various types of clothing, including sweaters, pants, dresses, and even aprons.
“Is this the specific reason you mentioned?” Xie Yu was skeptical.
Pei An nodded confidently, saying, “This is indeed the specific reason. Come with me.”
Shu Mingya noticed their arrival and welcomed them. “Hello, you must be Mr. Pei. If you’re Mr. Pei’s guest, you must be Little Xie.”
Xie Yu politely greeted her, “Hello, I’m Little Xie.”
“Did Mr. Pei bring you here to help the children with their art project today?” Shu Mingya asked.
Xie Yu considered saying he wasn’t there to help, but that might be rude. Besides, Pei An was looking at him expectantly.
“Yes, you could say that I’m here to help,” Xie Yu agreed.
Shu Mingya smiled warmly and said, “Thank you for joining us. Today, we’re letting the children draw on clothes. You can draw whatever you like.”
Xie Yu responded, “Thank you for your guidance.”
Pei An watched as Xie Yu was guided to an unoccupied table. “Shu Auntie, I’ve brought him here. He’s all yours.”
Xie Yu wasn’t thrilled about the unexpected task of painting on clothes, but it seemed Pei An was excited about it.
Shu Mingya led Xie Yu to a table, saying, “You can mix the colors as you like and draw whatever makes you happy. I’ll keep an eye on the children. If you have any questions or need help, just let me know.”
Xie Yu replied, “All right. Thank you.”
Shu Mingya returned to the children’s art station, and Xie Yu picked up a cream-colored sweater, squeezed out some paint, and began his art project.
Pei An’s clothing style was as monotonous as his own. Their wardrobes appeared synchronized with plain shirts, trench coats, and overcoats hanging in a row, lacking distinctive styles or designs. Even their casual clothing was simple, typically plain colors or stripes.
Suddenly, Xie Yu was at a loss. How could he, a big rough guy, create something that would suit Pei An’s taste? He felt that any design he painted wouldn’t match Pei An’s style.
In contrast, Pei An didn’t seem as concerned as Xie Yu. He proceeded to visit those who had been rescued from the facility where he had found them in such a horrifying state.
The beta individuals had mostly suffered skin injuries, and they were recovering well after receiving medication. However, the situation for the omega individuals was less optimistic. Apart from the five omegas who had undergone pheromone cleansing surgery, the others were still undergoing treatment with medication, with minimal improvement.
Among the omega individuals, Qin’s situation was not the most severe, but it was far from easy. He hadn’t undergone surgery and now had daily check-ups, medication, and infusions. He had lost a considerable amount of weight.
Pei An knocked gently on the door and entered the room. “Feng Qin, what are you up to?”
Seeing Pei An made Feng Qin happy. His blue eyes lit up, and his golden soft hair swayed gently. “Pei-ge, I’m reading.”
Qin raised the book, which was a collection of dramas, engrossed in his reading.
Pei An placed his hand gently on Feng Qin’s head, giving it a soft pat. “How do you feel today?”
Feng Qin obediently reported, “The same as usual.”
Pei An fell silent, realizing that they needed to arrange surgery for these individuals as soon as possible.
“Pei An, don’t be sad,” Feng Qin comforted. He tugged at Pei An’s sleeve. “We are very fortunate to escape that hellish place. If we don’t have the opportunity for surgery, it’s our time to go to heaven.”
Feng Qin smiled faintly. “In heaven, there is no suffering.”
However, in this world, there was no heaven, no benevolent gods to save them.
“Pei-ge will continue to find a way,” Pei An said. He had arranged for alphas from the organization to visit the welfare center, attempting to establish contact with these omegas. Many alphas in the organization were single, willing to try to help the omegas.
However, these omegas had suffered greatly at the hands of alphas in Golden Wind and Jade Dew. In the short term, they would feel aversion and rejection toward alphas and alpha pheromones. Only in cases of exceptionally high compatibility between alpha and omega pheromones could they be more accepting.
Pei An knew that high compatibility like his with Xie Yu, which didn’t require any testing, was exceedingly rare. He couldn’t count on everyone to find their “destined” partner based solely on pheromone compatibility.
“Pei An is a very good person; God will bless you,” Feng Qin offered a blessing using a hand gesture he had recently learned.
After spending some time with Feng Qin, Pei An walked around the welfare center to see the others. He checked on everyone’s condition in the medical room and then returned to find Xie Yu.
In truth, it wasn’t that he had nothing else to do. He needed to remain calm and relaxed, as the situation with their formidable enemies was ongoing. As the leader, he had to set an example and remain calm. If he was constantly anxious and lost his composure, his subordinates would lose confidence and morale. This was the real reason he came to the welfare center.
Pei An had spent a considerable amount of time in the medical room. When he returned, Xie Yu had already finished painting.
“What are you painting?” Pei An leaned over, observing Xie Yu’s white hoodie, which was covered in various spots of paint.
Seeing Pei An approaching, Xie Yu inexplicably blushed a bit. “I haven’t finished yet. You can see it when I’m done.”
Pei An thought it over, realizing that Xie Yu couldn’t just run off with this painted hoodie. “Alright, you finish it, and I’ll go play with the kids.”
Everyone at the welfare center admired Pei An, especially the children. Pei An took a clean apron and went into the group of children.
“What are you all painting?”
“I’m painting a bird!”
“I’m painting the sky with clouds!”
“I’m painting a rabbit!”
…
The children eagerly introduced their artwork to Pei An.
Pei An examined each piece and gave compliments. “You all are doing great, even better than me.”
When Pei An decided to paint something himself, he thought of Xie Yu.Â
He knew what to paint.
Pei An squeezed white paint and, with a brush, began to apply it to the apron.
“Pei An, are you painting a white cat?” one child asked.
Pei An smiled, “No, it’s a big dog.”
Using white paint, he painted a white dog on the apron, with its front paws reaching forward, as if it were about to pounce on something. Pei An then used red paint to add several small flowers, each with five petals.
Pei An had come from a relatively well-off family and had learned various skills, but his focus had always been on academics. Even when he was a young child, he knew how to sweetly pout and act cute to his grandfather, a man with a large estate, which was where he developed that skill. Therefore, he hadn’t particularly excelled in various talents. However, painting a simple picture was well within his abilities.
“Pei An, you’re really good at painting!” The children genuinely praised him.
Pei An was unashamed of the compliments. “Of course, I’m Pei An.”
Xie Yu also completed his painting, which was a starry night sky. The paint quality was average, and the clothing material wasn’t the best, making the resulting stars less enchanting than a real night sky. However, it had a certain charm.
“Pei An, I’d like to give this to you.” After drying the paint, Xie Yu folded the hoodie and intentionally made sure that the starry night part was on top.
“That’s a coincidence; I also wanted to give you something.” Pei An gestured to the apron still drying with paint.
Xie Yu choked.
He didn’t mind the painting of a dog, but why was it on an apron?
Was Pei An subtly hinting that he should continue cooking?
