Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 25 Important Announcement
“What’s wrong? Do you think my painting isn’t good?” Pei An squinted his eyes. If Xie Yu dared to say that his painting wasn’t good, he would be in big trouble.
Xie Yu quickly denied, “No, not at all!”
He just…
“This is a surprise!” Yes, it’s a surprise!
Pei An wasn’t a fool; he could clearly see Xie Yu’s intentions. He reached out and touched the red flowers on the apron, where the paint had already dried.Â
“Since it’s a gift for you, take it.” Pei An pulled the apron over and handed it to Xie Yu. He then took the hoodie from Xie Yu’s hands. “The one you gave me, I’ll keep for myself.”
The two of them exchanged their gifts.
After having lunch at the welfare center’s cafeteria, Pei An first had Xie Yu drive him to the vicinity of the base, and then he had Xie Yu return home on his own.
The anti-enemy work was all arranged and ready to go, and Pei An went to the base to keep busy, completing any tasks he could in advance. After experiencing a fever, Pei An had a rough idea of the timing of his heat. This time, it would be particularly fierce, and the enemies were on high alert. He didn’t have the luxury of locking himself in isolation, accompanied only by robots. He had to be on his feet at all times and be available whenever needed.
If there were still traditional temples or monasteries in this interstellar era, Pei An might even consider lighting incense and praying to see if it could change his bad luck.
But there was no heaven or celestial beings in this world, and relying on the divine would not help. To make it safely through the heat, he would have to use scientific methods.
Scientific methods meant either finding an alpha to bite his gland to leave a temporary mark or finding a beta to relieve himself, or, as a last resort, taking an injection of suppressant.
Pei An passed on the first two options and chose to use the suppressant.
The suppressants were precious, and Pei An had a total of five available. They were not to be taken lightly, and he planned to carry one with him today. In case of any problems, he could quickly inject himself with it to suppress his heat.
Given that suppressants were too valuable, Man Zhu had kept them in a high-security safe. No one but Pei An himself could open it.
Even though he had the suppressants, Man Zhu was still worried. “I just have a feeling your heat this time won’t be easy, Pei An. You have to be careful, very careful.”
In the known statistics, no omega had ever managed to suppress heat for eight years relying solely on their willpower. Rest was just as essential as it was to address the issue. Pei An had been postponing the relief of his heat pressure, and it would only get worse as time went on.
Pei An shook the suppressant in his hand. “Man Zhu, I have the suppressants now. What else should I worry about?”
Man Zhu still had a worried expression. “I’m always anxious, and my right eyelid twitches.”
Pei An quipped, “Left eyelid twitches for wealth, and right eyelid twitches for superstitious nonsense.”
Man Zhu retorted, “…Very well, you’re indeed Pei ‘Practical Materialist’ An.”
“Alright, alright. You go about your work, and I’ll stay in the lab for a little while.” Pei An said.
Man Zhu grabbed Pei An and pulled him back forcefully. “Go to the lab? Absolutely not! You’re not allowed to go!GGo back to your house and rest!”
Pei An responded, “Man Zhu, I’ll just stay there for three hours, no, two hours.” He even gestured the number two.
Man Zhu corrected his gesture from two back to one and said firmly, “You’ve just recovered from a fever. Don’t overexert yourself. Go home and rest for me.”
Pei An reluctantly retracted a finger. “What about one hour? I can’t just sit around and do nothing; it feels empty.”
Man Zhu pushed his finger back. “Right now, immediately, you go home and rest. I’ll have Yi Rui drive you home and make sure you get inside.”
People who don’t follow medical advice completely lose their say, and Man Zhu promptly ushered Pei An out of the base.
After numerous reminders from Man Zhu, Yi Rui stared at him as if he were under scrutiny. He wouldn’t run away anyway; they were practically becoming friends through eye contact.
“Yi Rui, you don’t need to watch me so closely; I’m not going to run away.” Besides, where could he even go?
Yi Rui turned her head, focusing on the road. “I’ll get you home soon, Pei Ge.”
Pei An muttered, “You don’t have to be very quick.”
Once Yi Rui dropped him off at home, and he grabbed a drink from the refrigerator before returning to the base. Pei An didn’t plan on staying idle, so he began to explore his ownASmart brain.
Xie Yu, who was in his room, came out when he heard the commotion, wearing a puzzled expression. “Weren’t you supposed to come back tonight?”
Pei An replied, “I was sent back.”
Xie Yu’s eyes twinkled with a hint of amusement. He hadn’t expected Pei An, who was so resolute and decisive, to be at a loss against Man Zhu’s orders.
“What do you want to eat tonight?” Xie Yu checked the time; it wasn’t too late.
Pei An deferred to Xie Yu’s cooking skills, saying, “Xie Shifu decides.”(Master Xie Decides)
Xie Yu asked, “I think you quite like tomato and ribs; how about having it again tonight? There are still tomatoes and ribs in the fridge.”
Pei An nodded. “Sure, go ahead, Xie Shifu.”
Xie Yu remarked, “…” He was still Xie Xuesheng(Student) this morning, and now he had turned into Xie Shifu(Master). His identity had become quite fluid.
“By the way, Xie Yu,” Pei An suddenly called out, “Can you fetch the apron I painted for you?”
Xie Yu’s normally calm face suddenly cracked a smile.
After all, he was an alpha who stood at over 1.9 meters in height, a big guy! Was an apron even appropriate for him?
Xie Yu hadn’t had anything related to the word “cute” since he entered high school.
Pei An blinked. “Don’t you think the apron I painted is pretty?”
Pei An’s eyes sparkled, his black pupils filled with light, especially when he didn’t exude any harshness, he appeared gentle.
Though the word “gentle” had nothing to do with Pei An, who could punch an alpha into submission.
Under Pei An’s gaze, Xie Yu inexplicably couldn’t find the words to refuse. He almost voiced his refusal a couple of times, but each time, the words got stuck in his throat and were swallowed back down.
Xie Yu reluctantly fetched the brand new dog apron Pai An had just finished making this morning and headed to the kitchen to cook tomato and spare ribs.
Pei An watched Xie Yu’s retreating figure, and the corners of his lips curved subtly.
In the next moment, he furrowed his brows lightly and took out a scent blocking spray, giving it a few spritzes.
This heat cycle was indeed different; it was not even time yet, but his pheromones were already disobeying his command and becoming unruly.
For dinner, besides tomato and spare ribs, there were stir-fried vegetables.
Pei An assumed that Xie Yu had prepared the dinner according to the dietary requirements of a patient, keeping it very light, with low oil and low salt. He hadn’t had such a “healthy” meal in eight million years.
The meal indeed tasted excellent, with the spare ribs stewed to perfection, so tender that there was no need for any effort to chew them. The meat easily separated from the bone, soaking up the tomato sauce, which was truly delicious.
“Xie Yu, I genuinely believe that when you grow old and retire, opening a restaurant would be a great business,” Pei An complimented, noting that he might even get promoted to Lieutenant General upon retirement with his current trajectory. With many subordinates, he could draw a crowd.
Xie Yu replied, “If there ever comes a day when they don’t need me anymore, opening a restaurant wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
However, in the fifty years since the Lyte Empire’s founding, a slew of problems kept cropping up, and he feared that he might have to work until he couldn’t move anymore.
After dinner, Xie Yu took out the thermometer once again and insisted on measuring Pei An’s temperature.
Pei An was utterly flabbergasted. “Do I look like someone with a fever? Is Xie Yu being overly concerned?”
No, he would be the one dealing with the heat cycle, so why was Xie Yu getting so nervous?
Xie Yu explained, “It’s more accurate when a professional measures it.” He then handed Pei An the thermometer.
Pei An reluctantly accepted it and tucked it under his arm. ” Doctor Xie Yu, you’ve worked hard.”
Xie Yu raised an eyebrow, confused. “What do you mean?”
Pei An clarified, “You’re doubling as a healthcare worker.”
This morning, he was Xie Xuesheng, this afternoon he was Xie Shifu, and now he was Dr. Xie.
Xie Yu seemed to understand and chuckled. “I have to make a good impression, so my creditor is happier. That way, maybe I can pay off my debt a little sooner.”
It seemed like he was growing more familiar with Pei An. Before, they wouldn’t have such close conversations, but with time, the boundaries between them gradually blurred.
Xie Yu genuinely enjoyed this kind of interaction with Pei An. But he also wondered how long Pei An would continue to interact with him like this. When his military team will come to pick him up, how would Pei An treat him? Would he start to dislike him?
After checking his temperature, Xie Yu returned to his room.
When Pei An went home in the afternoon, Xie Yu had refrained from speaking with his subordinates. Now that he was in his room, Xie Yu finally had time to communicate with his team.
The information they received was crucial. They had discovered that the 286th Legion had indeed dispatched a warship to the Moran Star System, and one of the flagship warships was heading over with an unknown target. However, it was not an official deployment by the military headquarters.
Since it wasn’t an official deployment, it had to be an unofficial operation. The situation in the military was complex, especially when it came to regiments that had secret ties with noble families, which was the case with the 286th Legion.
The fact that someone like Fan Wen could mobilize the 286th Legion, even if it was only one flagship warship, was a significant accomplishment. It demonstrated Fan Wen’s extensive and influential network of connections, which couldn’t be underestimated.
Being able to persuade a military unit to act independently in contravention of military regulations was a major breach.
“If you can, try to investigate it for me,” Xie Yu requested.
Independent military actions without following military protocols were a severe breach. If they could discover anything, he wouldn’t mind dealing with it ruthlessly.
